This is the first place me and my wife went when we started dating. It's not GREAT!! But it's decent, it's clean, and it's always open. If you are a fan of places like Waffle House or Country Kitchens this won't disappoint! This place is not super fancy inside but it was clean clean and the food was very good. I'm not usually in this area but it was a good stop. Our server was super nice and took great care of us. I got scrambled egg covered biscuit with sausage gravy. Another person in our group had a waffle that she said was delicious and one had a chicken fried steak that looked VERY good. Stopped in at BusyBee today for early dinner. As always they did not disappoint. They have the best mozzarella sticks and chicken fried steak in town. The cheese is twice the size of fast food places, it's the same quanity and really, it's about the same price too. Unless you take into consideration the size of each stick, than you are getting double. lol. it's a no brainer. read more

Today was my first experience and I went in for breakfast. I haven't been to any of the locations in area but heard great things from other so I decided to give it a try. Walking in you have that nice cozy mom and pop dining atmosphere with plenty of seating. There is a smoking section with closed doors but if your sitting close enough you can smell the smoke once the door opens which isn't very pleasant. Our waitress was very friendly and had great customer service which was a highlight of this visit. I had a biscuit and gravy breakfast with potatoes. The potatoes were awesome the gravy was delicious but the biscuits weren't all that, they just didn't have much flavor and were not the best. The food is great, waitstaff has been a tad forgetful about refills and providing simple requests. Each time we have been there we have had to request and remind waitress about different things, menu items, side dishes not delivered, while I'd heard their bigger than your head cinnamon rolls are delicious it takes forever to get one to go. Why? Who knows. But we prefer their pies while not spectacular are better than the underwhelming cinnamon rolls! BUT, like I said the food is delicious! Their chicken fried steak is awesome! Stopped in for the third time ever for a later dinner last night. We try to stop in there when we are in that area the love the chicken fried steak there the size of the portions are huge and my husband and I always share the large. As always food was wonderful . It was quite busy at the time with two waitress at that time. I forget to ask our waitress Everytime we are there her name as she has now been our waitress all three times we have been. There must have been three large parties at that time of six or more and several smaller tables. My husband and I watched in amazement as she went from table to table to table to the register to get everyone's food out quickly stopping chatting with each table clearing trash and plates laughing and making sure every single person in that place was happy with their food trying to see what they might need and making everyone's time there from what I saw to be a great experience. It didn't look like she had any help at all sadly in fact the other lady there looked to only be serving ONE table . I don't know if she was getting off or what the case but she offered no help what so ever to this young women basically running the entire place. If she was not getting off. She surely has no place working at such a busy time she was more interested in sitting eating and talking on her phone. It really bothered my husband and I the way our server was running around at a hundred miles an hour and this other lady literally did absolutely nothing to help. We aren't able to get to that part of town from where we live very often however we will be back and we will definitely be looking for our girl. Some people are made to work in these type of situations and she most definitely is one of them. I wish I knew her name but to the lady at the Alvin location that was our waitress late last night my dear you are amazing and you made our dining experience exceptional. I didn't catch her name again sadly but we will be back again and you best believe we will be looking for our girl. I don't know what all those tables of families tipped you but by God I hope it was good because you deserved it. You always see the bad reviews for food or service very rarely do you see one like I'm leaving but I feel like she was exceptional and deserves to be recognized. So if someone knows her name Id love to know it. She was the waitress the after midnight I think it was and more importantly she has her hair cut extremely short on one side. Service today was LOUSY. 4/3/22. Ordered kids pancake breakfast with 3 sausage patties, 2 teas, burger with fries and a piece of chocolate cake. Burger with fries & 3 pieces sausage took long enough that tea was gone but at least part of food order arrived together. After kid ate all the sausage & half my fries I had to ask for someone to bring the pancake from the window where it had been for at least 5 minutes. It wasn't 1 kids pancake but 3 full size pancakes. Our server was standing right in front of the window where food is put when ready to serve but busy chatting up a coworker while cutting lemons so someone else brought it. Kid was full so ate 4 bites & we sat 15 minutes waiting for the bill, cake & tea refill. Server showed up for tea refill, I asked for cake & a to go box for pancakes. Server printed out the bill & handed it to me. 10 more minutes & I got to go box & went to pay. Server rang up sale said have a good day and I had to ask for the cake. The food is ok, kid loves the pancakes. I'm including a picture of the tea glass the refill came in. Some of those chipped areas look sharp. DId not drink out of it. read more

Basically I'm rating the batter fried chicken livers. I love fried chicken livers and the Busy Bee is the only place in Alvin//Clear Lake area you can get good ones. I've only eaten at this location this one time. The local chain has been in the area since the '30s. It has lost attendance in recent years and three of their locations have closed including one in Texas City, one in Seabrook (it's now a Hooters). I used to go to the one Seabrook regularly for the chicken livers. I don't think they treat their employees very well. At the one in Seabrook the turnover was astounding. As a result the servers seemed unhappy to be there and this was reflected in the service. It was my opinion this resulted in concerns about cleanliness. When I knew we were going to Froberg's farmers market I immediately said I was coming here for the livers. My wife had breakfast which she thought was excellent. Alvinites must like breakfast here too, because it was jammed when we arrived at 10am. There was only one parking space left and we took the only unoccupied table and it's not a tiny place. Update: I've been here for lunch twice since, when my hobby brought me to Alvin. I always get the chicken livers. ___ We've Eaten Out Every Meal for 25 years . read more

Downright home cooking! Epic diner that should not be passed by! Will not be disappointed!

My first time here. We had the fried shrimp and the chicken fried chicken. We started off with yeast biscuits and cornbread. The yeast biscuits were hot and excellent, the cornbread was grainy and fell apart. The shrimp had been previously frozen and was a little shrimpy in taste. The chicken fried chicken was of a good portion cooked well and had very good flavor. French fries were frozen and were OK. We also ordered a side of macaroni and cheese. It looked a bit overcooked, but tasted fine. Two dinners two drinks was $24.42. We will probably come back and try breakfast, but I don't know that will be trying dinner here again. read more

It's an Alvin institution, but honestly it's just so-so. Went in for breakfast on a Saturday morning around 08:30. Not very crowded, but still took a while to be served as well as get my food. They have a dedicated smoking section, but you can still smell the smoke in the main dining section when you walk in. I ordered the make your own breakfast (biscuits and gravy, grits, 2 scrambled eggs) and a cup of coffee. Bill came to $~12. Food wasn't anything special: biscuits just ok, gravy and grits pretty flavorless, and eggs are eggs... Overall I was pretty disappointed - most likely won't ever go back, despite me being a Alvin alumni and passing by it on a regular basis. read more

Got a chicken fried steak and eggs a few days ago. The service was very attentive and the meal came out quickly and hot. The coffee had that coffee bean taste, and my 2 baking powder biscuits were airy and fresh. There was extra butter and jelly on the table, the eggs were cooked runny just like I asked and the hash browns were crispy. The chicken fried steak was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Like a real Texas chicken fried steak should taste. All in all, this place is excellent. You're definately not wasting your money. Good ambiance, good service, and damn good food. read more

Tonight's service was far from what we are used to. Everyone was late or not there on time leaving one poor girl to handle the floor. It took about 20 minutes to order. Apparently we all decided to eat here tonight. With slower front service the kitchen really needs to step up. Steak was flavorless, so were the grilled veggies, the catfish had no flavor and was soggy (didn't taste done) we were missing 4 items. We never received the bread. The salad was prepared wrong. We didn't have silverware. One of the kitchen guys came out to help her. I felt so bad for her I didn't want to ask or complain. Through this all she had a positive attitude. read more

By far the worst meal my wife and I have ever had! They didn't bring our appetizer. The ribeye was overcooked to the point of shoe leather(ordered medium rare) and had no seasoning . When I told the waitress that the food was sub par she said there wasn't anything they could do. I finally got to speak to a manager at the register and the little girl got a huge attitude when I didn't want to pay for one of our meals that we COULDN'T eat. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING! Over priced and terrible food. Ordered a burger, very basic. The burger itself is not seasoned. It's kinda sad when bbq sauce has to save the taste. Bacon wasnt cooked all the way, chewy. Even order my burger plain, only meat bacon and cheese and they couldn't even get that right. Also the waitress never refilled my drink, I know thats a petty response but after sitting there for 25 minutes, I should at least get a refill for spending $2.49. Seasoned fries are okay. $10 burger had the same quality as a $1 burger at McDonald's, should have saved some money. read more

I'm grading this place for what it is. It's like a step back in time to when there wasn't the hustle and bustle that we see everywhere around us. Coming here is like taking a trip back to 1990, not because it's old or anything, it just gives that vibe. It slowly takes you back from the moment you park in the parking lot full of gravel, to when you walk up to the Victorian looking building, when the waitress greets you with her sweet southern accent. I have never had such bad service in my life! We went to eat an early dinner and It was not busy,We were one of the only families in the restaurant but it took forever just to take our order. We were sitting at the table while the waitress was at the register hollering at my girls asking them what they wanted, as she imputed the order in the register. Then she took an unbelievably long time to get the food out. We asked for pie and she put it in to go boxes instead of letting us eat at the table. When We got home our pies where RAW!! Our breakfasts were very good, in fact the best scrambled eggs I've eaten in a long time. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. I haven't eaten lunch or supper here so I can't comment on those. Our server was very accommodating and friendly. The only complaint I have is the restaurant itself, it just doesn't seem clean and could use some TLC. We had the meatloaf lunch special which was DELICIOUS along with the corn casserole which is unique and Super Yummy! Their portions were generous - enough for 2 of us! It's totally the same as when I was a kid. Even a smoking section that's roomed off so you can puff a cig while you stuff your face with delicious pancakes at 6am. (Don't smoke anymore but it was awesome when I was in my early 20s.) They have awesome home style cooked meals with all the fixins. The portions are pretty large for the price too. Went to eat here last night because a lot of friends had suggested this place. I thought it was going to be a good place to eat but I was wrong. The waitress was nice and started out good, but she was slow to bring us our drinks. We ordered an appetizer and she didn't even bring it to us, another girl did. We ordered the fried pickles and the pickles didn't have a very good flavor to them and the fried part was just about burnt. Finally the waitress came to deliver our food and asked if we needed anything. I told her we needed ketchup and some dinner rolls which she said she would be right back and walked off. Then I assume her friends walked in cause she greeted them and hugged them and sat them down. After her friends were there she completely forgot about our table. We needed refills on all of our drinks for 20 minutes and she never came to our table. Basically we ate our dinners with no drink and the kids ate their French fries with no ketchup. I sat there and watched the waitress and she went to grab some ketchup so I gave her the benefit of the doubt but she ended up taking it to the table where her friends were. Then she asked them if they needed refills and ran to refill their drinks and then brought them dinner rolls. We probably sat there another 10 minutes before she finally realized we were done. She came to the table like nothing was wrong and asked if we wanted refills. Seriously? So I told her we needed refills like 30 minutes ago and she then tried to argue saying she was busy. I told her how I sat there and watched her bring everything to her "friends" table and completely ignore our table. She apologized and said she'd give us a free piece of pie. Told her no because the pies in the showcase didn't look appealing at all and told her that wouldn't do and she just apologized but she's busy. So I let her know that she was a horrible waitress and could've easily made a good $7 tip from me but she's not getting a tip. Of course I doubt it bothered her since she had her friends to wait on. I spoke to the manager and he didn't seem to care that she was a bad waitress. He just said he'll talk to her and he didn't even bother to try and fix the situation which was pretty bad. He did end up giving us a 20% discount but I told him I'll never return. Will never return to this restaurant ever again! You are better off going to Kelly's which is down the road. Similar food except Kelly's is better. Don't waste your time at this place. They also have a section that has smoking and all that separates it from the non smoking area is a door. So you can actually smell the cigarette smoke when they open the door. read more
