I love Skip's. The food is excellent and I've had about everything on the menu. The staff is like a family. They're very friendly and give the best service. Skip thanks everyone personally for coming to enjoy his restaurant. The place isn't very big but there have been many times when it's been standing room only. My son and I recently went here for breakfast and were approached and welcomed by the waitress almost as soon as we sat at our chosen booth. He and I were both able to find a meal that suited each of our needs. We didn't have to wait very long for the food to arrive and until it did she checked on us to be sure if we needed anything. The food was delicious and prepared exactly as ordered. My son thoroughly enjoyed his western omelette and home fries and my eggs over easy with grits were cooked just right. There was a "Thinking of you" card out for anyone to sign at the counter when I went to pay the check, which I asked about. She told me that Skip, the owner, has been dx with colon cancer and is not doing well. I offered my prayers and sympathy and she said I could sign the card too if I wanted, which I certainly did. I have been to this business several times, some with friends and some with my other disabled son, who loves the pancakes. I have never had a bad experience. The only difficulty you may have here is finding a place to sit sometimes because it is a popular but small place of business. read more

This is a great dive type restaurant. Very dive atmosphere but very clean and good low priced Goid Ole American food. I am impressed that they open extra early when so few do. The ice tea is real and perfectly brewed. Very happy rhat they go to the trouble to make real ice tea when so few do. Real vibe ripe tomatoes. It's late July so all restaurants shoukd have local grown delicious tomatoes. Few do. This one does. Omelet was stuffed full with plenty of cheese - better than most higher end chains. The owner came out to thank customers. I would give it 5 stars for what it is but they didn't have real butter. I asked if there was any un the back for my toast and they just done have any at all. I also dont like deep fried potatoes. Ots been years however since Ive foubd s restaurant that stoll makes labor intensive pan fried country potatoes. Skips is convenient to downtown and really one of the few places to get a hearty breakfast. I find the food here better than the highway steakhouse and the friendly service a low prices will bring me back for more. They have the best gravy in the area in my experience. Lunchtime I've had some good hamburgers and good value once again. This is a no-frills zone. Leave fancy pants at home. read more

You choose your meat it come with eggs, and then 2 sides for under 6.00 with a tea or coffee. You can't go wrong . The wait staff is always friendly and never messes up your order. First of all, we had been sitting at our booth for a few minutes, and the owner, Skip, came by and said hello to us. Nice to see the owner taking an interest in the customers. I got a Western Omelet ($6.99) with home fries, and the omelet was great. The home fries were kind of plain. Wish they had some seasoning and cooked onions. Gravy was good. My wife got an "old fashion" burger that is hand patted. I tried it, and it was a very good quality burger. Fries were the standard frozen bagged style, but they included a huge amount on the platter. Service was friendly. Great local joint. read more

I've eaten here twice. The first time, I had the hot dogs, which were disappointing, but when I returned, I had a omelette, which was very good. You shouldn't expect anything fancy, but the food is good for the price, and the prices are VERY good. read more

I stopped by on the advice of a friend who bragged that Skip's has the best breakfast in town. He must not get out much! First of all, when I walk in, the place stinks like they have inadequate ventilation. Next, they are about 50% more expensive than my normal breakfast place, Clarence's, which was closed for vacation. A very pleasant waitress came over and took my order and than brought my food. Eggs were lazily scrambled, and just barely, with large chunks of white and yellow, not very well scrambled, and very overcooked. The bacon was burned to the point that of the three pices I was only able to eat about 1 1/4 slices, with the rest burned beyond being edible. The biscuits were the frozen kind, which normally are fine, but these had apparently been left on the baking sheet because the bottoms were so hard that it took a knife to cut. The gravy, which I had seen on Yelp being bragged upon, was a cheap mix right out of an envelope, and the envelope probably would have had more flavor. All things considered, it was the worst breakfast, possibly the worst meal, I've ever eaten out, and I eat put alot. Nothing about the meal was even fair, much less good. For me to leave anything on a plate, much less most of a meal, is testiment to just how bad it truly was. Their unsweetened tea was good, as was the waitress. Everything else was terrible! read more
