I even had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Crenshaw's cousin Ronnie, who shared the restaurant's story and history. My food was served fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned. The shrimp and fish were crispy, crunchy, and cooked to perfection. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying. I also tried their banana pudding, which was a sweet, creamy finish to an already amazing meal. The restaurant itself was clean and inviting, and it's clear everyone from the cooks to the cashiers takes pride in their work. If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. This place is fairly far from where I live slightly closer to where I work, but still, it's a hike. Why do I go then? I go mostly because every once in a while, I really want to have some fried catfish and I appreciate the fact that along with my fried catfish, I can add four or eight fried shrimp to the order. That's a nice touch. I've actually never tried anything other than a fried catfish basket or sandwich along with the shrimp but, why mess with success. It's a chain, so things like tartar and cocktail sauce come in a prepackaged packet like some salad dressings but it's tasty enough. I could eat fried seafood every day but I know that's not a good thing so it's nice to be able to come here every once in a while and scratch that itch with a pretty decent version. read more

Great fast seafood joint. I'm always on the hunt for a nice fish burger/sandwich and frankly, almost no fast food chains seem to regularly carry it outside of Burger King. This is my go to spot now when it's open. They have flounder, white fish, cat fish, etc. for burger options. You can generally get them on a plate as well. The flavor was good, but overall I was expecting a bit more from it. For dessert, I tried the nana puddin', and unfortunately, I can't recommend it. It tasted store-bought, with Cool Whip that wasn't fully mixed in and soggy cookies. Definitely not worth it--1/10, and honestly, it shouldn't be on the menu. On the upside, the restaurant itself had a cool, welcoming vibe, and the staff was friendly with no complaints there. Just be prepared to pay $0.60 extra if you want additional sauce. read more

Skrimp Shack is a regional chain that seems to have originated in the coastal region of Virginia, and only fairly recently made its way to the Carolinas. I had seen them billed as the chick fil a of the fish sandwich world, which is a lofty goal for sure. Typically the idea of fast food fish rings alarm bells, but I had heard good things, and I found myself in the area so I stopped in for lunch. The restaurant was clean and well decorated with a fun beachy vibe. The employees were friendly and overall it was a good vibe. I ordered a catfish sandwich but I think they misheard me and gave me a catfish basket instead. All good though! I like that you have to option to add some popcorn shrimp to your basket. It lets you try some shrimp without ordering a whole separate meal and instead only spending a couple extra dollars. My basket came with a side and I got the Mac and cheese. Def felt like it was lacking on the cheese. Overall I thought the food was decent, it reminds me of the fried seafood baskets you would get down in a beach town on vacation, which judging by the decor might be exactly what they are aiming for. pleasantly surprised by skrimp shack! have driven past it a bunch and always caught my attention because of the spelling (same way my brother has jokingly pronounced it his whole life). figured it would be basic fast food quality but it did exceed expectations. there is a little bit of waiting involved as all food is cooked to order. you can get most items either grilled or fried. we tried a few varieties of fish, crabcake and shrimp. everything was tender, not too greasy and still hot when we got home with it. staff was pleasant and friendly as well. they have indoor and outdoor seating. walls are decorated with some info on their origin story and history. read more

A pretty decent fast-food shrimp restaurant. The menu offers quote a few options. We tried the shrimp basket with sweet potatoe fries, the lobster bisque and the shrimp tacos with coleslaw. Everything was good, but the bisque was really good and the fries were super crispy and tasty. The service was good, bit the food took about 10 minutes. Be ready to be patient. After hearing some good things from a friend and getting their recommendation for trying out Skrimp Shack, we decided to do so. It is located in the east side of Charlotte, not far from Eastway Drive. There was no line upon arrival, but there were a good amount of people in the restaurant. There was seating inside the restaurant, as well as a patio with seating outside of the restaurant The staff taking our order and checking us out seemed to be very friendly and helpful. They answered all of our questions and gave recommendations on what is their top seller and most popular items. I got the catfish, but I wish that they were larger pieces of catfish and not just strips. They also could have been seasoned just a little bit more. Social distancing, and masks are required, but one of the employees didn't have on a mask. This was my first time at the restaurant, and I was impressed. The employees were really attentive and friendly. The cashier took our order. I ordered fried shrimp, Mac and cheese and collard greens. My husband ordered a fried fish sandwich with fries. We both had fruit punch. Pros: The food was hot, which is a big plus. The Mac and cheese was cheesy, and the fried shrimp was seasoned well. It was delicious. My husband's fish sandwich was seasoned well and so was his fries. They also have their own target sauce, and delicious PO big sauce. Cons: I didn't like the greens. They were mustang greens, not collard greens. Big difference, and not pleasing. I didn't eat much of it. . Next, the fruit punch was super sweet. I had to add water to the punch. Some consumers may enjoy sweet drinks, but not me. I love to dine, or take out, but I also have to be careful of the sugars and foods that I eat. There are many entrees to choose from, so I will order grilled fish, Mac and cheese and also sweet potato fries. My husband said he's going to try the Monster Mahi, green beans and mac and cheese. I am giving the Skrimp Shack a 3 out of 5. The service was good! We placed our order with no problem and they brought it out to us once it was ready. The food was good but not as good as I had hoped. I ordered the shrimp with fries and my fiancé ordered the flounder Sandwich with Mac and cheese. Both were underwhelming. His sandwich was pictured on the menu having flounder, pickles and a sauce on it but when he received it, it was a bun with fried flounder only. The Mac and cheese was alright as well, just kind of soupy but not bad flavor. We did not receive any sauces with our meals either. It was fine though, we ended up getting tarter sauce and some ketchup. I would suggest Skrimp Shack adding some sort of cajun sauce or a special sauce to their meals or atleast offer it as an option. We also tried the Banana pudding which ended up being good, but nothing to write home about. It needed a little more texture and banana flavor added too it. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, so I would be willing to go back and try it again! read more

This is just based off of yesterday's experience. I went there to get a fish sandwich nothing else I wanted the whiting sandwich that you see in the pics with all the fish. I haven't been there in a while so the menu board has changed. If you look all the way to the far left of the menu board it's like a value meal menu where you get fries and a drink. Don't order from this menu if you want the big fish sandwich. Like I said I haven't been here in a while so when I looked at menu I thought the price of the fish sandwich went up like everything else but that's the value menu price. You don't get the same kind of sandwich I was looking for with is deal. When I got home and saw what they gave me I was so disappointed. I wanted to go back to the store. I had to take some off just to eat half. My advice if you are dining in, get it to go so that you can easily take the rest home bc I promise you won't finish it all there. Not at all terrible but I had higher, or a least different, expectations. The flounder wasn't much different in taste and texture from Showmars. I like Showmars and would have just gone there had I known. There was certainly room for more seasoning. The hushpuppies tasted ok but the texture was a little weird on the outside--kinda chewy and lacking that crispy cornmeal crunch I'm used to. I was raised on haddock, saw wars fought over haddock, and have contributed most likely to haddock's decline in abundance. Stopped by here last week and wow, where do I begin. First off, we were met with probably imo the best hospitality that I've ever had at a restaurant. We spoke with 2 managers and they greeted us with huge smiles and a friendly voice. Welcomed us and told us more about themselves and the business. . The food was delicious.
