I go mostly because every once in a while, I really want to have some fried catfish and I appreciate the fact that along with my fried catfish, I can add four or eight fried shrimp to the order. That's a nice touch. I've actually never tried anything other than a fried catfish basket or sandwich along with the shrimp but, why mess with success. It's a chain, so things like tartar and cocktail sauce come in a prepackaged packet like some salad dressings but it's tasty enough. This is my go to spot now when it's open. They have flounder, white fish, cat fish, etc. for burger options. You can generally get them on a plate as well. I ordered the Big Cat Samwich, which came with a decent portion of catfish. I had mine spicy fried and swapped the tartar sauce for the spicy Po'boy sauce. The flavor was good, but overall I was expecting a bit more from it. For dessert, I tried the nana puddin', and unfortunately, I can't recommend it. It tasted store-bought, with Cool Whip that wasn't fully mixed in and soggy cookies. Definitely not worth it--1/10, and honestly, it shouldn't be on the menu. Skrimp Shack is a regional chain that seems to have originated in the coastal region of Virginia, and only fairly recently made its way to the Carolinas. I had seen them billed as the chick fil a of the fish sandwich world, which is a lofty goal for sure. Typically the idea of fast food fish rings alarm bells, but I had heard good things, and I found myself in the area so I stopped in for lunch. The restaurant was clean and well decorated with a fun beachy vibe. The employees were friendly and overall it was a good vibe. I ordered a catfish sandwich but I think they misheard me and gave me a catfish basket instead. All good though! I like that you have to option to add some popcorn shrimp to your basket. It lets you try some shrimp without ordering a whole separate meal and instead only spending a couple extra dollars. My basket came with a side and I got the Mac and cheese. Def felt like it was lacking on the cheese. Overall I thought the food was decent, it reminds me of the fried seafood baskets you would get down in a beach town on vacation, which judging by the decor might be exactly what they are aiming for. After hearing some good things from a friend and getting their recommendation for trying out Skrimp Shack, we decided to do so. It is located in the east side of Charlotte, not far from Eastway Drive. There was no line upon arrival, but there were a good amount of people in the restaurant. There was seating inside the restaurant, as well as a patio with seating outside of the restaurant The staff taking our order and checking us out seemed to be very friendly and helpful. They answered all of our questions and gave recommendations on what is their top seller and most popular items. I got the catfish, but I wish that they were larger pieces of catfish and not just strips. They also could have been seasoned just a little bit more. I am giving the Skrimp Shack a 3 out of 5. The service was good! We placed our order with no problem and they brought it out to us once it was ready. The food was good but not as good as I had hoped. I ordered the shrimp with fries and my fiancé ordered the flounder Sandwich with Mac and cheese. Both were underwhelming. His sandwich was pictured on the menu having flounder, pickles and a sauce on it but when he received it, it was a bun with fried flounder only. The Mac and cheese was alright as well, just kind of soupy but not bad flavor. We did not receive any sauces with our meals either. It was fine though, we ended up getting tarter sauce and some ketchup. I would suggest Skrimp Shack adding some sort of cajun sauce or a special sauce to their meals or atleast offer it as an option. We also tried the Banana pudding which ended up being good, but nothing to write home about. It needed a little more texture and banana flavor added too it. This is just based off of yesterday's experience. I went there to get a fish sandwich nothing else I wanted the whiting sandwich that you see in the pics with all the fish. I haven't been there in a while so the menu board has changed. If you look all the way to the far left of the menu board it's like a value meal menu where you get fries and a drink. Don't order from this menu if you want the big fish sandwich. Like I said I haven't been here in a while so when I looked at menu I thought the price of the fish sandwich went up like everything else but that's the value menu price. I was very much in the mood for some fried fish and, having passed this place so many times, I finally decided to try it out. Honestly, it was fine. Not at all terrible but I had higher, or a least different, expectations. The flounder wasn't much different in taste and texture from Showmars. I like Showmars and would have just gone there had I known. There was certainly room for more seasoning. The hushpuppies tasted ok but the texture was a little weird on the outside--kinda chewy and lacking that crispy cornmeal crunch I'm used to. You do get a good amount of food though, which is always nice. Overall not a destination place but if you happen to be close and really craving fried seafood, it'll do. read more

Stopped by here last week and wow, where do I begin. First off, we were met with probably imo the best hospitality that I've ever had at a restaurant. We spoke with 2 managers and they greeted us with huge smiles and a friendly voice. Welcomed us and told us more about themselves and the business. . The food was delicious. Employees are not welcoming! They don't say hello or smile! They all look unhappy! They also took forever with our food! The food is pretty good, definitely better than something like Captain D's(I hate that an elite said otherwise). But that said, everything is focused around unhealthy fried food, they seem to be out of things a lot of times, I'm not so sure that the flounder is flounder(but at least they give you the taxonomy) and the last couple times I've went they just didn't seem to "have it together". To be fair on that last part, them "not having it together" is just a post covid lockdown thing that I've learn to deal with. They aren't unfriendly or anything. It seemed like the owner was there this time though and I'd hope he would see the lack of communication, smooth ordering and delivering processes. The grilled shrimp is probably my favorite thing I've tried so far. The price isn't great for lunch, but isn't bad. I like the fried okra, but it's just too much fried food in general for my taste. When I worked in the area this was a cool little spot that was close by, quick and chill.
