The first two weeks the food was amazing. The food was seasoned to perfection and I enjoyed every bite! Unfortunately the food quality no longer matches my first impression and I probably won't be returning. I was supposed to receive 12 shrimp with my shrimp baskets. 1 order had 12, the other one had 9. The kids shrimp plate had 6 and at first glance it was very hard to tell the difference between any of the plates until I counted the shrimp. I tried the crab cake sandwich today. The sandwich was over cooked and underwhelming with it's flavor. I'm attaching a pic of my sandwich. I did take a bite out of it, but for $7.50 I was expecting more than what I received. read more

I had a good experience at The Skrimp Shack. It's super busy at the moment but I think it will slow down after a couple weeks. The staff gave out free samples while waiting in line which was pretty nice. The fish and shrimp was fried perfectly. Everything has a pretty light seasoning. The proportions match the price and the customer service was nice. This is a chain restaurant but I believe this is the first location in the triangle. I think this restaurant will last. read more

Had my heart set on fried clams for dinner so my 2 friends and I doordashed dinner from this place. One person got the fish sandwich had plenty of fish on it, but was very soggy from being in Styrofoam. It was awful. I doordash a lot and other places don't have that problem with the steaming of the food to make it soggy and limp. She said it was disgusting. And they are so cheap they charge for lettuce on a sandwich!! My other friend got fish tacos and said they were good. Since I ordered thr clams I got no food because doordash messaged me in the wrong place to tell me they were out of clams!!! And to make matters worse...they fully charged me for the missing meal!! This is my second time eating here and it was just ok. My biggest was complaint is that i needed more than 2 pieces of fish on my flounder sandwich for 9.45. I hate that I did not take a picture of it because I was really disappointed that I paid 11 plus dollars for a fish sandwich and 5 hushpuppies. I had a craving for it and its not that many places in Durham that sell good quality flounder. Plus I had a bone in it as well. I purchased the Skrimp and crab po boy, disappointed w/ presentation, the only crab meat was the small portion seen, the bread was cold even though I was there to pick up at the pick up time and the Skrimp lacked flavor until drenched in sauce. Fried shrimp and fish were fine--nothing special. Only had fries as a side; they were on par or maybe slightly subpar. Bit undercooked, too. Fish tacos were below average. They were literally just fried fish with pico de gallo and pickled jalepenos. Better can easily be made at home. Blackened shrimp were on par with Whole Foods prepared shrimp. I probably won't go back. Saltbox is vastly superior for fish, shrimp, etc., and a number or places in Durham have better fish tacos. read more

Great tasting food, I had the fried shrimp platter. The food actually tastes fresh and not over cooked (like most places that sell fried foods). The cocktail sauce is probably the best I've had and if I can remember correctly it didn't have any high fructose corn syrup which is great. Customer service was great, the lady taking orders was a sweet heart and very attentive. Parking is nice and easy inside of a parking lot. The establishment itself looked very clean in appearance. Although the food is great, the customer service needs some assistance. I attempted to call in a to go order. After the 4th time I called i finally got an answer. Unfortunately I was put on hold as soon as the employee answered. As I'm driving to the restaurant...I'm still on hold. I wait in line to order....I'm still on hold. I order (while still on hold). I casually ask if the phone works and I get yes but I'm the only employee here. Short staff???? Not sure. But the food is good though. I just returned home from my third time eating at Skrimp Shack, and I can say that it is consistent in delivering GREAT sea food! My favorite is the catfish while my wife prefers shrimp (?also known as skrimp?). I'm a fan of fried fish cooked just right with a tasty coating. Wife can't make up her mind between the grilled shrimp or the fried shrimp. We noticed that they also have soups and tried the clam chowder and the seafood gumbo. Both were good. We have patronized many seafood restaurants in the Raleigh, mostly sit down. The food at the Skrimp Shack is as good as any and better than most, better than our previous favorite place. . I have to mention that the french fries are excellent, maybe the best around, and come (in the baskets) in a large amount. We have only ordered the baskets in the past. In terms of cost, my most recent tab was $31 while at a Raleigh restaurant it was $35 and a Cary place $36. We will be regulars here! read more

Every time I visit family in Durham, I have to come here. I walked in on Friday afternoon straight from the airport. Ta'Keisha was at the register working alone. She did a fantastic job taking orders and servicing customers seated, all with a smile on her face. There was a line however she kept it moving. I was weary considering it seems like a take out joint. Fast and fish don't sit well with me. BUTTT! It was delicious catfish strips and fries were great. Awesome portions great tarter and cocktail sauce. Ordered for take out and it was ready 10 minutes before it was scheduled to be. Will return again, probably to often. I had the catfish sandwich and it was an enormous sandwich- just meat and bread with tartar sauce on the side. I spoke with one of the owners and learned seafood is delivered 3 times a week. North Durham needed a good fried/grilled seafood joint and this place checks the boxes. The staff has been friendly every time I have stopped by to get food for the family. We have only gotten food to go but there are roughly 10 tables and counter seating wrapped around the windows if you want to eat inside. Skrimp Dinner and Skrimp Basket were fantastic. Stopped in today for the first time and was very impressed by the quality of their shrimp and crab Po-Boy. While I've ate at fancier restaurants, this place will match them not only on the food, but also the friendly folks. The shrimp were plump and perfectly battered and the hot sauce was the bomb. When they said "hot sauce", I was thinking standard hot sauce.....not this stuff......that was the best part of the sandwich. Great flavor! I got the shrimp and whiting baskets- 2 pieces of fish and 4 shrimp- mac and cheese and collards... the collards are chopped up small so they look more like turnips from k&w but had great flavor (meats in it) the mac and cheese is not your grandmas but it was good to not be- THE FISH AND SHRIMP IS GREAT!!! They're both crispy and fresh! Expect a long wait! But it's worth it- the cashiers are efficient and quick and provided good advice on what to order- the slaw is sweet- fries were good- fountain drinks- it you want a lot of food get the dinner, I heard the Shrimp Po Boy was great and fulfilling- well that's all I got! The quality of the seafood at Skrimp Shack is the best I have found in the area. I gave 3 stars instead of 5 because of multiple occurrences where I call to place a carry out order and nobody answers the phone. The last two times were Friday evenings about 7:30. Both times, when we arrived, there were no customers at all and when I asked the cashier why they did not answer the phone, she told me they turned the phone off, because they were so busy. From what we observed, they were busy trying to close early on a Friday. The dining room was freshly cleaned, the trash had just been emptied, the floor was even clean. That's not what a restaurant which had just been so busy they had to shut off the phone looks like. But wait, it gets better. We placed our $45 order to go and the only person in the kitchen, the guy with the Durham Bulls neck tattoo, just walked out the front door of the restaurant and was gone for over 5 minutes. Several minutes later someone else came in to the kitchen and started our order. We ordered at 7:44 and got our food; most of it, at 8:09. The whole time the employees were playing and laughing about how they were going to get out early. I found it amusing when several people walked in after we did. They too were asking why nobody would answer the phone. If I were the owner, I would be furious that I had such a poor manager and immature staff costing me a lot of money, especially on the busiest night of the week. It's really sad when you invest your money into a business that you have clearly worked hard to create, and you end up with managers and staff who very clearly have no respect for your business or customers. read more
