Sometimes when you walk into a place you go "YES, this just has IT". IT being all the feels and vibes Danielle Vergnaud-McKinnon and Matthew McKinnon opened Sky Puppy in September of 2024 in the Historic 1888 Casa Bomberos firehouse, which was Tampa's original firehouse. Matthew brews their fantastic beers and Danielle designed Sky Puppy and runs operations. It's absolutely stunning. Historically, Ybor City is known as the Cigar Capital of the world. When the Sanchez y Haya Building in Ybor City was abandoned, thousands of bats took over! So it's known for Cigars and Bats... or.. Sky Puppies The taproom is stunning. Beautiful backsplash in the tap/bar area, sleek designs and tables but keeping the classic original brick of the fire station. Beautifully done sculptures of bats are from @coppertritscheller can be found all over. @pedals.and.pintglasses got to hang out and enjoy the aura and beers! We'd passed by Sky Puppy Brewing in Ybor City a few times, and last night we finally decided to stop in- so glad we did! What a great discovery! I instantly wished I had a place like this in my own neighborhood. Beyond their excellent- in house brews, the space has an intimate, relaxing vibe that feels almost like a cozy neighborhood coffee shop- somewhere you could easily spend a few hours unwinding. No TVs here! There are books to read, games to play, outdoor seating, and a rotating monthly art wall that adds such much charm. Every detail of the space feels thoughtfully curated to make guests feel welcome. Their beer list isn't huge, but it covers all the essentials, and they also offer a full bar with house cocktails and wine. Sky Puppy Brewing is truly a gem. I have been to Sky Puppy a couple of times now, and every time have been impressed by the beers. The hazy IPAs and sours are fantastic! They even won a World Beer Cup bronze for their Schwarzbier. The last time I visited, I came with a friend from out of town on his birthday, and the owner brought him a birthday pour. The staff is so friendly, you can sit at the bar, or they have table service. The décor is so cool, the space is an old firehouse turned into a bat cave. I always get excited when I visit a new lw brewery and was more excited because on the Saturday when I visited they were Brewing. Love the smell of beer brewing. Say hello to the next best brewery in Ybor city. So Sky Puppy is a microbrewery with some delicious craft beer. There is seating outside and inside. The venue is quite intimate and there is a bar in the back with about 6 bar stools. So the name sky Puppy refers to I guess a pet name for bats. And if I were going to make a name for the decor I would go modern goth chic. I am sure that is not a thing, but hey I am trying... check out the pics and let me know your opinion. In any case, a really cool place. I love the menu on parchment paper or like papyrus. So very unique. The atmosphere is pleasant and inviting. Like a warm hug which includes beer. Our server Dominque was fantabulous. The BEER: Dynamic Field of Awareness... Kolsch 5% ABV... clean and refreshing with a slightly sweet hop finish A Voice in the Fields... Marzen 6% ABV... I like this and I like that it is a cleaner marzen than I have experienced in the past Dingbat...stout 7% ABV... this is intense with layered flavors of semi sweet chocolate, almonds and has a peanut finish Out of the Blueberry Bush... Weiss sour 6% ABV... this is a light sour with hints of Blueberry and some vanilla Cty Jce Sesh (city juice session) ... IPA 6.5% ABV... this is good cold, it warmed up and I got melon and vanilla, still very good Torches in the Storm... Barleywine 9.5% ABV... So, I wasn't expecting this barleywine to taste the way it did. It was very clean and higher in IBUs than you would expect from a Barleywine. It tasted like it had West coast or east coast hops and I didn't get any prune or raisins flavors. Pages of Nothing... Barleywine 10.5%... so all the Barleywines here are not what you would expect. And this one is not an exception, toffee, caramel, clean and deceptively light. All in all what a great vibe. The beer is great. Loved the decor, ambiance and service. Was brewery hopping in Tampa after the Holidays and this wasn't far from previous brewery I was at. It's smallish in here but it feels intimate. The waitresses was good at getting my table and us drinks in a timely manner. They have bats around the brewery for decor which I found amusing. Sky puppies are bats and with sooo many different breweries in the country gotta have a way to differentiation. Got the death and all her friends at brunch beer. It's a sweet milk stout. One of the best breweries I have experienced in Florida. Equal to 3 Sons Brewing in Dania Beach, but without food. Service is outstanding, and the "Sky Puppy" bat theme is well executed. Inside it is a brewery that feels like a restaurant. Outside, there is actually some seating too and since it is in Ybor, you will have constant chicken companions if you choose to sit out there. Absolute gem in Ybor. Only heard about this from the bartender at another brewery and we're SO glad we came. Really cool "bat brewery and wine cave". Their shady lady lager won a huge award and totally worth the hype. Their out of the tropics sour is one of the best I've had. Really impressed by this place -- service is above and beyond friendly. The beer is really great and the owners are delightful. The space is well thought out- it feels like you're going in a cave which is really fun with the bat theme. The bat tap handles are my favorite. As someone who brings my kid to breweries, the vibe is classier than some of the other local breweries. This place is Crazy! Incredible ambiance, our bartender Ceci was incredibly friendly and gave us a rundown on the story behind the building and how the brewery came to life! What a cool place, and the selection of beer is out of this world. We had the "out of the strawberry meadow" and the "grim interest" to start and I'd drink either of those daily. This is a great place to meet with friends you haven't seen in a while or to bring family that's visitng the area, a prime example of Tampa's premier night life. read more

I'll start off with the fact that I'm not a beer drinker, so take this with a grain of salt. We came with a group of friends who are big beer drinkers and we figured we would just have a couple glasses of wine. My husband and I had two glasses of wine and both times they sprinted up to the table and took the glasses away before we were even done. They definitely do not like non-beer drinkers here, and at the same time we literally paid $17 for a small pour of wine and they took it away before we were even done. while tampa has lost a couple breweries over the last 3-4 years, sky puppy more than replaces them. outstanding range of styles and all exceedingly well done. the pils and lagers crisp and clean including a malty dunkel. the sweet stout w/ peanuts was my favorite, not too sweet or syrupy like some of the other famous desert stout maker on Florida. the decor is fantastic, lots of small details like the bronze bat tap heads. the art glass in the alcove above the brick archway leading to the production area. Very unique spot. Owners are hand on and willing to explain the different selections and make sure you get something you love. The vibe was very cool and the artwork was a very neat touch. Huge craft beer fan here. Went to the newly opened Sky Puppy in ybor. Walked in to a small, cozy space that had almost a Great Gatsby feel with modern touches. Seats and half circle booths line the wall and a small bar and standing table await at the back. Had a warm welcome from the bartender/brewer/owner who greeted me, handed me a menu, and made sure I was comfortable. Was provided water without having to ask (love that... it was hot out!). Tried pretty much everything they had to offer. The sours were fruity, vibrant and refreshing. They ended up being my favorite style at Sky Puppy, highlighted by the Strawberry Meadow (IMO). I followed up the sours with a hazy IPA, which checked all the boxes. And we finished with the 3 different versions of the sweet stout Death & All Her Friends. I was happy to find these are not diabetes syrup stouts. They're not very heavy, have a little cream/fluff to them, along with good carbonation. I was able to drink them easily without feeling like I had just devoured an entire chocolate cake like the kid from Matilda. The brunch version of Death was my favorite, from the aroma of freshly ground coffee beans and finish providing an espresso type punch. The owner happily gave us a tour of the facility, which we really appreciated seeing their very efficient setup given the space they had. Last, we were even given a free sample of the Dunkel, which was incredible and made me feel foolish that I didn't give it a try in the first place. These are great people with great beer.
