The service was the best part: Todd was friendly, checked in on us throughout our meal and even gave us some recommendations on sightseeing while we are in town. The reason for the 4/5 stars is I don't like the setup of having to scan a QR code to get a menu (Todd accommodated us though with a paper menu), and I want to see my actual bill instead of just running my card through a machine with a total -- give me a paper receipt and let me take it from there. read more

I had the opportunity to visit Waikiki, and I decided to give "Skybox Taphouse" another try. If you read my previous review, you'll see that I didn't rate that visit too highly. However, I wanted to see if there was an improvement since my last visit--plus I wanted to watch football (and this facility "should be" a good venue to watch sports). Besides, if the visit didn't start well, I could cut my losses early and go elsewhere. I was able to find a seat at the bar with a good view of more than one television screen. The bartenders behind the bar were busy fulfilling orders. But, generally speaking, the bartenders were more reactive than proactive. I might have left after the first beer, but a new bartender came on shift--and this guy was good. He would periodically check-in to see if I needed anything; if he thought he saw me looking for service, he would check. I also observed him taking orders and serving those sitting in his section of the bar and at the high-tops along the rail overlooking Kalakaua; he also bused and cleaned those seats. Because of him, I extended my stay and expanded my ticket. As to "Is this venue a good place to watch sports?" The answer is "yes". The room layout is good. There are a lot of quality TV screens, and the restaurant has access to almost all of the channels. The question then becomes, "Whose station am I sitting in; will I get good service". I'll close this trip report with these thoughts: I really don't need a lot of attention--especially when occupied watching games; but then again, if my beer is empty, it's nice to be asked if I want another, versus fighting for a server's attention. Next, a really good staffer can help reshape your opinion of place, even after a lackluster previous first visit. But it seems that the quality of the service you receive here still depends on whose station you're sitting in. read more

First experienced Skybox Taphouse during IMP Restaurant Week. During opening night of Restaurant Week was totally impressed with their dish of coconut polenta with chicken. So much so that we immediately made reservations for dinner. Have since been back two times and impressed with the quality of food and friendliness of staff. Lauren was out Wait Associate on the first night and she, along with Restaurant Manager Kassim took such good care of us all evening that not only did I keep my reservations for the next night with a different group, I couldn't stop raving about...the restaurant week menu, the service, the food. And what we had....between persons at the table, each night we had just about everything. The second night we had everything on the restaurant week menu AND an assortment of appetizers. We even enjoyed the wine tasting that was going on that second evening. Favorites of mine: always that most memorable coconut curry polenta pairing nicely with the lemongrass chicken. For appetizer, loved the spicy meatballs which weren't too spicy; more just right. The seasoned fries were amazingly delicious though portion a bit small. No complaints on both desserts of fresh berry panacota and the ube creme brulee. Kassim mentioned there are karaoke nIghts on the nights when there isn't live music. Have since been back with friends. Love the open air atmosphere with high ceilings and that always stunning view of the Waikiki sunset! read more

Solid three based on my experience. Sat at bar, not many people and started out ok. Based on reviews I new they had $10 appetizers during happy hour. I asked the bartender and he told me yes, no offer of this or nothing posted, apparently its a secret. Next shift bartender shows up, i had a empty beer so she ask if i wanted another, yes i do. She goes and grabs a bottle and pours in glass...nothing wrong with that but then she turns around and says "o i didn't know we had that on draft" Ordered the wings based on reviews. I would not get them again, while they are big as advertised, they are mostly breading with little actual meat. Not all that great. Touristy prices, as expected, and your pretty standard bar food: wings, fries, burgers, etc. Big screen tvs everywhere. Open air layout, so this would be a good place to watch a game. It was a Saturday night and crowded, and they busted out the karaoke. Fun place for all ages, but steers more to the young adult crowd. I gotta say, though, service here sucks. Got our soda and beer 20 minutes after ordering and after our food came out, and only after inquiring about the drinks. And, seriously? Beer is served in a can. Soda in plastic cup. Of all the restaurants in the International Marketplace, this one had a reasonable wait. About 35 minutes compared to other restaurants that had either almost an hour or were just not seating anybody. They have a nice location overlooking Kalakaua Ave which was on the loud side. I had the honey sriracha chicken wings which were really good considering I wasn't very hungry. I also had a slice of the vegetariana pizza. The crust was very good and tasted a little like beer. While eating, they closed the windows and started a Karaoke list. Our dinner now included a show of men singing their favorites tunes. Some were better than others and some were awful. Service became slow during the singing and there was a point when we just wanted to leave. Came here on a Monday afternoon and there were only a few tables when my boyfriend and I walked in. We didn't even get greeted or noticed until about 20 mins later by one of the servers. It didn't look like they have specific sections or tables, they just seemed to be picking up whichever table that came in. So the service was pretty slow. The food was okay, tasted average, nothing too amazing. Had to ask for ranch several times, but they also charge you and don't inform you for it. The prices were a bit much for what you get. However the staff is possibly the rudest I have EVER encountered. When we arrived there were maybe 2 couples inside... I was curious why it wasn't busy on a Saturday night. The waitress barely came around and left my friends with empty drinks and hungry for a long while between visits and generally did not seem to care we were there. As for the garlic fries, they use that jar garlic that sits for an undisclosed amount of time. It was brownish and tangy tasting. We have many choices here. We chose to sit at a high top table with an ocean view... Rather than the view of the famous banyan free. The staff lowered the shade so that the setting sun wasn't in my face. Thanks! The first hour of parking in the structure was free with validation. The second hour was $2. Not bad, right? Service by Andrew, the bartender, was great! It was the first day of Restaurant Week and he did a good job. We ordered one thing at a time instead of all three items at once. We both got the Wedge Caesar Salad and the (tender) Braised Short ribs on rissoto - fancy, eh? For dessert, Donna had the ube Creme Brulee and I got the Strawberry compote Panna Cotta with toasted pistachios...yum! Everything was delicious and beautifully plated! I wouldn't mind returning. First, know that Skybox is a sportsbar (not a restaurant per se) with big screen televisions all over every inch of wall. There are 2 and 4 seaters but for the most part, there are high tops scattered throughout the establishment. My suggestion is to as for a seat all the way into the restaurant and ask for a window. If you follow my suggestion, you will get a window seat overlooking Kalakaua Ave. IMHO Street noise is better than bar noise. HH ends at 5 pm if you're looking for a decent price in adult beverage. They have wine samplers every Tuesday. They have karaoke every Monday and Wednesday. They have other regular activities which, if interested, a phone call or their website will answer that question. About the IMP Restaurant Week Menu: $35 then $50 gets you a 3 course meal. Salad or Meatball appetizer, lemon grass chicken or braised short ribs, ube creme brulee or ? (sorry, I forget what the alternate dessert was). For the heck of it we ordered to gnocchi as a share plate. My tag line on Yelp is "I'll try anything once". read more

The vibe around this place feels comfortable and relaxed. Being a sports bar, Skybox Taphouse features multiple monitors that show sports such as BMX, surfing, and basketball. Even the net above the bar contain sports equipment such as footballs, basketballs, soccer balls. A definite must for any sports aficionados to come here. The large windows allows for the air to circulate around Skybox Taphouse. We can hear the love music coming from the Surefire Restaurant. I ordered the Roasted Beet Salad. It tastes scrumptious! The salad dressing gives it a zest. Joseph ordered the pepperoni pizza. He said he it tasted fine. We did not have to wait long in order to get our food. Aubree did an amazing job. Great addition to the International Marketplace! I've seen Skybox featured on a few social media platforms lately and wanted to try it out. Coincidentally, we walked by while talking about grabbing dinner so decided to check it out. Weeknight, around 7:00pm and we were seated immediately. We opted for the bar and spent our night with Sage and another awesome bartender (but didn't catch her name). Cocktails were great, prices were reasonable and the food was killer. I'm a bit confused about some of the reviews stating otherwise. We started with the truffle cream gnocchi and the spicy meatball small plates. Both were good, but the truffle cream gnocchi was by far the best thing we ordered! The bartenders recommend the Kalua pig & pineapple pizza along with the grilled chicken sandwich as entrees, so we ordered both. No complaints! We will definitely be back! read more

I love the pizza here! They bake them in a brick oven and they do not disappoint. I asked for extra cheese and they loaded it on. The crust is chewy but crispy and not thick at all. The french fries are also fluffy and crispy, definitely worth a side order. We also got to they the waffle battered chicken and it was delicious. The batter was not thick at all and the chicken was juicy. I wish it came with some kind of sauce. It is a sports bar so I can see it getting loud in here, but the view is great if you can sit by the window. I would have gave them 5 stars but the service was not very attentive.
