The Skyland Mountain Tap Room is a small bar area - adjacent to, but physically separate from the Main Dining Room at Skyland. All the times I've visited Skyland - I've never been in the Tap Room. So yesterday, during my annual Autumn trip to Shenandoah National Park - to see the leaves turning colors (which unfortunately in 2017 - as of Oct. 19 - have yet to start turning colors) - I stopped for lunch at Skyland - and decided to sit in the Mountain Tap Room. I sat at the bar, and ordered the Crab Soup, a burger (sans bun), and a pint of Hoptimization IPA from Brothers Craft Brewing, Harrisonburg, VA (a delicious Ale I've had many times before). Soup was pretty good. Burger was overcooked - like well done. Topped with an egg over easy - which was cooked properly. The Ale was served with a chilled pint glass! Service was good. The Skyland Mountain Tap Room is a cozy little oasis! #SkylandMountainTapRoom #Skyland

First time visiting this restaurant. I love the beautiful, scenic view at this restaurant. They don't have too much on the menu, mostly burgers and salads, but considering we are up in the mountains, we were not complaining. The burgers were very fresh and tasted great. It's worth the $2 additional fee for the sweet potato fries! They were great! And I highly recommend the warm apple crumble a la mode! Perfect size and scrumptious desert! Overall 2 thumbs up. A little pricy...

We were there during COVID, so our experience was different than what I suspect it would be normally. Our food was good and the dessert was fantastic! They had a full bar and a cocktail list as well.

Don and Jess got the fried fish with salads instead of french fries. Tim got the wings and I got their turkey dinner. All of us but Jess got a bowl of their She Crab Soup too. Due to the virus they have a limited menu and serve everything on paper plates and bowls with plastic utensils and tables spaced far apart. It's the same way up at Big Meadows Lodge's restaurant too. And the Wayside at Big Meadows doesn't have their restaurant open at all.

This is the bar of Skyland Lounge. It has a separate menu of food from the main dining room. Walk in, seat yourself. Friendly service with a backdrop of Country music. Reasonable prices for speciality drinks, entrees are pricey for a bar but average for a resort. Fast service.

If you don't want to wait for a seat in the dining room for blackberry pie, they serve it in the tap room.

Wow, where to begin. We were there an hour before the dining room opened and we were just there for the blackberry ice cream pie before we left town. I had no desire to stake my claim in line for the dining room so the hubby asked a server if they served the pie here and she nodded both times and walked away from him. Uh, okay. We walk in and no one greets us and we assume that you seat yourself because no one is jumping to do their job. Matter of fact, the bartender is standing there talking to 3 servers...THREE and despite them occasionally glancing over at us and then quickly looking away when we made eye contact, that was the only attention we got. Just as I was about ready to make my way over, a delightful older server from the neighboring dining room walked by and asked if we'd been helped and we said no. She said someone would be right with us and I said I doubted that but thank you anyway. She asked if she could get us drinks while we waited and we both said waters and I said we were just here for the ice cream pie. She said she would put the order in for us. Well 2 minutes later she came back with our waters and pies (this was basically lunch, I wasn't splitting!) and gave us a sweet smile and moved on with her prep duties for the dining room. Sadly I never saw her again or we would've made a point to give her the tip since we were ignored by ALL staff here. The "nodder" came over and gave us our bill. I'm sure the lady who did the actual work saw no part of that tip. Point is, if you're there for the pie, get it here if the dining room isn't open. Otherwise I wouldn't make a point to go to either place.

This is one of my Mom & Dad's favorite restaurants in Virginia. Awesome views and 5 stars gourmet cuisine makes for a special day. HAPPY birthday MOM!

What a great experience. Came in after hiking all day. Got a free show from the cloggers, had some great local beers and delicious food. Prices were good. Had the burger and steak sandwhich. Both were delicious. Server and bar tender were awesome....it got really packed and they were on top of everything. Go to skyland instead of big meadows!

Our view was so much better than most of the tables down in the dining room!

If you're planning to come during peak dinner hours, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation because it started filling up quickly. We had spent the day hiking, so we were dressed much more casually than many of the other diners. The restaurant has a more upscale feel, but no one made us feel out of place. The staff was welcoming, seated us immediately, and made us feel comfortable from the start. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the cocktails were well made. The food was the real highlight. The burgers were cooked perfectly, the beef tasted fresh and flavorful, and the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. We also really enjoyed the soup of the day and the hummus of the day. The only thing that didn't completely wow us was the steak. It certainly wasn't bad but we just happen to be very particular when it comes to steak. Overall, this was an excellent meal with great service in a welcoming atmosphere. We'd happily return the next time we're in Luray.

My wife and I decided to take the trip out here from Alexandria for a nice weekend getaway…read more Oktoberfest was going on at the brewery and an apple festival and several other events were happening that weekend, so we weren't able to find lodging close by. However, we decided to still go down and just make it a day trip. I am glad we decided to still go down. Everything was amazing! The views, the wine, the beer, the food truck, and the people! If I could give our experience six stars I sure would! I had never had a wine flight before. Those mini wine glasses were super cute! I was told that this was their first yield of bottled wine since they planted their grapes a few years ago. For them to be new, it was fantastic wine! And then we had the Oktoberfest flight. All of the beers were crisp and had very distinct flavors. Their descriptions fit them all to a T! We were very pleased with both flights to say the least. Since it was Oktoberfest, they had pony rides (we just rubbed her and gave her a little love), a food truck, very nice decorations and live music. I'm glad we got to experience the first Oktoberfest fest there. It will not be out last time visiting. If you want to meet great people while sipping amazing beer and/or wine, do yourself a favor and visit this spot.

Came here on a recommendation and found it to be great…read more The whole place is a somewhat standard American-fare bar. My wife was very excited to try the pierogi appetizer. It was delicious with some onions and what tasted like bacon fat on it. The kiddos got items from the kids' menu - a simple pasta and a small pizza. There was a special while we visited (Oktoberfest, I think) that had some fantastic German items, including a killer schnitzel with sour red cabbage and mashed potatoes. It was fantastic. I got a couple of the on-tap beers and enjoyed them much. There is a respectable cocktail menu (any of them can be made mocktail if you want). One thing I appreciated very much was how family-friendly the place is. Our waitress saw Child #3 starting to melt down and brought him over some toys to play with, commenting that she had kids of her own. Indeed, in the corner, there is a whole table full of toys for kids to play with. Even the bathroom has a full changing table setup, which is way better than those wall changing tables. Overall, a great experience.

I flagged someone over to ask for new water (for the record there was no one dining here and plenty of workers) and the lady stared at me and after 15 seconds said can you repeat that. I said the water tasted funny can we please get a new one. She said, "the water tastes funny here." The server brought us the mozzarella sticks and then said do you want any plates. (Mind you there were 5 of us) and I said he's. He said, "how many" I said for everyone???? I'm not sure why you have to ask. He also later asked us if we wanted a refill... of water. I mean... can't you just refill it without asking? Then our mozzarella sticks came out and one didn't have any cheese in it. To be fair I flagged the server down and I said get I get one and showed him the empty cheese. And he said, "with cheese in it?" They brought back two which was good. The food arrived for the kids first and adults waited like 5 more minutes. So everyone was eating at different times. The burger my kiddo got he said tasted funny and the other older kid said it had a weird aftertaste. I said I didn't want to pay for something that tasted funny. The guy went back to the kitchen and came back and said they were cooking another one. I was frustrated because I didn't want another one. I said I didn't want to PAY for something inedible. He said, "well we can't do that because our boss isn't here." And I was like okay fine just give us the check, it will just be reflected in my review. He came back after like 5 minutes and said his manager said they could take it off. Okay so now the portions were pathetic. The Philly cheese steaks were on hot dog buns and it wasn't even fully filled. The kiddo said the pasta was good. It did look decent. I feel like it's hard to screw up pasta though. The chicken parm sandwich barely had any cheese or sauce on it and was on a flimsy hamburger bun. I'm pretty embarrassed I spent $75 for such a pathetic dining experience. I would not recommend anyone go here.
