We always end up having a late lunch at the Tap Room when visiting the park as they serve food all day long and good for takeout as well. Service is good. It's in the back of the main dining room, kind of dark, not as good a view and more limited menu. But the burger is dependable with tasty house chips (extra if subs for fries). Great service, decent food, wonderful desserts. We came for the sky-high Blackberry Ice Cream Pie and it lived up to the hype. The rest of our meal (burgers, salad, Brunswick stew, pub pretzel appetizer) was pretty good, kind of got a hotel restaurant bibe, but nothing to complain about and that is actually what it is. Our server was fun and attentive, the pub was a bit dark but the views were breathtaking. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated but didn't have a reservation and there was a comfortable seating area to wait in plus the gift shop to peruse. I'd come back for the dessert again! read more

Stopped in for a late lunch after our hike. The servers were very attentive and prompt. I ordered the house salad and cup of chili. Both were ok and met my needs. Salad was fresh and the chili was not too spicy. Hit the spot. Prices were as would be expected at a mountain top resort. Ambience was true to the name - tap roomish. My sister had a hamburger and fries and seemed satisfied with it. The fries I stole were yummy! Definitely will stop in again next time I take a guest up the Skyline Drive to see the sites. read more

The Skyland Mountain Tap Room is a small bar area - adjacent to, but physically separate from the Main Dining Room at Skyland. All the times I've visited Skyland - I've never been in the Tap Room. So yesterday, during my annual Autumn trip to Shenandoah National Park - to see the leaves turning colors (which unfortunately in 2017 - as of Oct. 19 - have yet to start turning colors) - I stopped for lunch at Skyland - and decided to sit in the Mountain Tap Room. I sat at the bar, and ordered the Crab Soup, a burger (sans bun), and a pint of Hoptimization IPA from Brothers Craft Brewing, Harrisonburg, VA (a delicious Ale I've had many times before). Soup was pretty good. Burger was overcooked - like well done. Topped with an egg over easy - which was cooked properly. The Ale was served with a chilled pint glass! Service was good. First time visiting this restaurant. I love the beautiful, scenic view at this restaurant. They don't have too much on the menu, mostly burgers and salads, but considering we are up in the mountains, we were not complaining. The burgers were very fresh and tasted great. Came in on our last morning for breakfast. We got OJ, tea and 2 Mountain Breakfast or whatever it was called. 2 eggs, 2 meats, and some kind bread. 2 eggs sunny side up came out good but bland. Starting to think that's how ppl like their food in Shenandoah... they were better with salt and pepper. Got 2 over medium eggs but idk what they were Bc it certainly wasn't over medium. Yolk was fully cooked and not runny in the least. The bacon was excellent. Crispy, flavorful yum! The toast was toast idk what to say about that. The biscuit was good. Warm and flaky. The potatoes that came with it was meh. Also bland. Inconsistently cooked but the ones that were nice and brown but not burnt were ok with a ton of hot sauce. Our server was OK. She checked on us but I would of liked if she was more attentive Bc my potatoes were cold by the time I could ask for the hot sauce. That being said they were understaffed and it was pretty busy so I don't think it was really her fault. During COVID season I thought it was alright over all. People work masks and there was hand sanitizer provided. read more

We went to this place in hopes of getting some good food after a long drive within the Shenandoah park. We were given someone else's table by a waiter. We sat there waiting to be asked by someone to take our order. Apparently, there was some confusion regarding the tables and with no fault of ours, noone came to serve us. We kept looking for someone at least to come and take the order but the waiters even after seeing us, turned a blind eye. No waiters or the manager bothered to come to our table. We waited for almost 30 minutes (no exaggeration!!) still with no service in sight, got up and left from this place hopelessly disappointed. Pathetic treatment for their guests. Wish I could write a review on the food, but they gave no chance to taste it ! Really disappointed :-( This was the only disappointment in our otherwise amazing and splendid Shenandoah National Park visit. read more

Don and Jess got the fried fish with salads instead of french fries. Tim got the wings and I got their turkey dinner. All of us but Jess got a bowl of their She Crab Soup too. Due to the virus they have a limited menu and serve everything on paper plates and bowls with plastic utensils and tables spaced far apart. It's the same way up at Big Meadows Lodge's restaurant too. And the Wayside at Big Meadows doesn't have their restaurant open at all. read more

There are only two restaurants in the central district of Shenandoah National Park-Spottswood Dining Room is the more formal one and the Taproom is more casual-very chill with TVs and live music. Service is friendly. Food is ok, nothing special. I had the personal pizza which was definitely a frozen pizza warmed up. Reminded me of grade school. Hubby had the pulled pork sandwich which he says was ok but looked pretty meager. Both seemed overpriced but since this is really the only game in town we can't complain too much. Surprised they don't serve burgers and fries down there. The waiter offered to run upstairs to dining room to get us fries but we declined. read more

We stopped here with friends after a day of driving on the Skyline drive and walking around the Shenandoah. While initially, we picked this place just because it was the closest to us and we were too exhausted to drive anywhere else, in the end, we were extremely happy to have stopped here. First and foremost, the view is breathtaking. If you manage to grab a table outside, especially around the sunset time, you will have an amazing view on the valley, seeing the colors of the sky turn from light blue to yellow, orange, red, magenta and purple; then lights on the bottom turn on and shine alongside the stars in the sky. Alongside came a decent choice of beers and some food. While not large, the pizza tasted great and a beer sampler allowed us to pick the ones we liked most almost right away. All in all, would absolutely recommend, especially if the outside seats are available. read more

Worst restaurant I've ever been to. Arrived Sunday evening on Memorial Day Weekend 2021 after hiking Stony Mountain, Little Stony Mountain, & Passamaquoddy loop trail - we arrived 6:30 pm & the host informed us there was 60 minute wait. At 8:30 pm, our table is still not ready. The waiting room was way too small to accommodate a large mostly unmasked crowd. The host's wait time estimate wasn't even close to reality. Gave up & left Skyland's Pollock Dining Room. Entire family was very disappointed & hungry. We heard such good things regarding their Signature Blackberry Ice Cream Pie - my daughters were looking forward to try it after our long hike. Would discourage all friends, family, & other visitors from coming in. It's unfortunate such a beautiful national park would have the worst restaurant ever. read more

Wow, where to begin. We were there an hour before the dining room opened and we were just there for the blackberry ice cream pie before we left town. I had no desire to stake my claim in line for the dining room so the hubby asked a server if they served the pie here and she nodded both times and walked away from him. Uh, okay. We walk in and no one greets us and we assume that you seat yourself because no one is jumping to do their job. Matter of fact, the bartender is standing there talking to 3 servers...THREE and despite them occasionally glancing over at us and then quickly looking away when we made eye contact, that was the only attention we got. Just as I was about ready to make my way over, a delightful older server from the neighboring dining room walked by and asked if we'd been helped and we said no. She said someone would be right with us and I said I doubted that but thank you anyway. She asked if she could get us drinks while we waited and we both said waters and I said we were just here for the ice cream pie. She said she would put the order in for us. Well 2 minutes later she came back with our waters and pies (this was basically lunch, I wasn't splitting!) and gave us a sweet smile and moved on with her prep duties for the dining room. Sadly I never saw her again or we would've made a point to give her the tip since we were ignored by ALL staff here. The "nodder" came over and gave us our bill. I'm sure the lady who did the actual work saw no part of that tip. Point is, if you're there for the pie, get it here if the dining room isn't open. The Skyland Mountain Tap Room is the tiny bar at Skyland on Skyline Drive in Skynandoah. "Tap room" is a pretty generous description, really, as there are only a few taps in the tiny bar. Most of the space is an open seating area shared by the restaurant proper where they have live music every night. The beers are local craft options, and it is a full bar, so it is actually a nice dark place to seek refuge from the weather, recuperate from a long hike, hide from your family, or catch a game on one of the TVs. read more

This worked so much better for a light dinner and drinks than the dining room. We stopped at Skyland Sunday evening for some food and drinks after our afternoon hiking and driving around the park. We looked at the menu, and the wait, for the dining room, and then we noticed that the tap room had three open tables right against the railing along the dining room that had an awesome view out the big windows. A lot of the menu was the same, and we could just seat ourselves, so we grabbed the middle table. There weren't many people there, and at least one server was just looking at her phone, but it was still more than 10 minutes until someone came over to start serving us. But after that her service was mostly good (except for being slow to do the check at the end). The wine I ordered tasted like there was something wrong with it, and she was really helpful getting me another one. We ordered the crab cakes and the sweet potato poutine, both of which were delicious! Our food also came out quickly enough, though other tables seemed to have issues. We didn't taste the sage in the poutine, but it was still very good. The cheesecake at the end of the meal wasn't good though, especially the fake strawberry syrup all over it. In sum, this is a great alternative to the dining room for drinks and heavy snacks, just remember that you eat at places like this for their location, not the food or the service. read more

Great view in the main dining room and has a decent tap room upstairs. The food did not live up to the view. The cheesesteak with peppers and cheese was assembled poorly. The peppers and cheese were buried in the bottom of the sandwich. It looked like boiled beef chunks placed on a unbroqned roll. The meat quality was poor and not sliced thin like one would find on a cheesesteak. The boiled, bland and dry beef were a big let down. The vegetarian chili, their only option, was decent- nothing special. Three stars for the view, but one for the food. Next time I'm up in the canyon I just settle for a beer in the taproom and maybe a bag of chips. read more

Given the wait for the Skyland dining room, we squeezed into the tap room and it was a decent alternative. We happened to get a table close enough to the Windows to have a bit of a view. after trying out a cocktail with Virginia corn whiskey in it (surprisingly yummy), we took a chance on the sweet potato poutine, potato skins and crab cakes. The poutine was really yummy, with pulled pork, cherries and goat cheese. Not a combo I've had before. Would stay away from the cheezwizzy potato skins though. Horrible service. Waited nearly an hour to get our order; 2 burgers, 1 pulled pork sandwich, an order of wings, a grilled cheese for my 3 year old, and an order of fries. Server never once came by to see if we were OK or to apologize for the delay then when we finally got our food, he blamed the delay on the well done burgers. Now, I've cooked my share of burgers and I don't care if the customer wanted a burger charred beyond recognition, it doesn't take you an hour. And it wasn't like they were slammed. It was 3pm on a Sunday. Then to top it all off, my sandwich was cold and my daughter's grilled cheese wasn't cooked through. The 2 slices of cheese were still whole and the bread was barely toasted. I mean, if you can't cook grilled cheese right then you shouldn't be in the food business. The only saving grace was that the burgers and my sandwich were good taste-wise. This is what is saving this place from getting 1 star from me. But the service sucked. I didn't want to leave a tip because IMO cold food is the fault of the server. So, never again.
