5 stars for the actual Skyline food. 2 stars for the service. 4 stars for the cool location. 2 stars for the cleanliness. Back in the day, this was one of my favorite stores. Like many kids raised on 97X and Bogart's, this was a great place to stop on the way back to I-75. I remember it being better than it was the day we went. I'm probably idealizing it, as that was a long freaking time ago. The entire neighborhood is unrecognizable in a good way. The day we visited, the food was the same as the Skyline I love, but the place was a mess (crackers all over the floor, stuff randomly placed around the room like brooms and trays) and the servers were not on-point. It was almost like we were annoying them to be there. The location is tight to begin with, but it was not the best experience. I had brought 3 Floridians with me and for 2 of them it was their *first* in-store experience with a Cincinnati Skyline. I'm glad they understood this wasn't a typical visit and we were able to go to another location before they went home with more success. read more

Skyline chili lives up to its name and hype. Before ever visiting Cincinnati, I've had some of the canned skyline chili and made cheese coneys at home, but it isn't quite the same!! The finely shredded cheese melts with the chili. There is such a good balance of cheese to chili to hot dog ratio in store! Also, I was quite skeptical of the three-way/four-way, spaghetti and chili seemed like a weird combo to me. However, it was beyond what I had imagined and I wish I got a bigger size!! I sat at the bar area and it was amazing seeing the efficiency of the restaurant. After ordering it only takes a couple of minutes to get your food. I'm definitely stopping by again on my next trip out to Cincinnati! read more

This was my first visit to Ohio and everyone told me that I must have Skyline Chili in Cincinnati. I love chili so of course I followed the advise and went to Skyline. The building and neighborhood are cute and they have a large private parking lot. I will admit, the thought of chili on spaghetti freaked me out but I still wanted to try it. My husband and I each ordered some coney's and got a 3 way to share. Holy moly, everything was fantastic! Never expected to like chili on spaghetti but I actually loved it. The chili tastes great and the large pile of delicious cheese melts perfectly onto it. The service was great and the prices are super cheap. Loved Skyline Chili!!! read more

I'm so glad I got to try the famous Cincinnati chili while I was here! I got a bowl of chili for about $7 and really enjoyed how flavorful it was. It had a good amount of meat too and hit the spot on a cold night. Will be back to try the chili dogs some day. read more

Cincy staple!! Fresh food, quick service and amazing staff. Skyline chili is comfort food at it's best. The taste is great and they do have a few vegetarian options which I love. Chilly is amazing on the spice (nutmeg, cinnamon, etc) and strangely sweet. Piled on a bed of noodles with massive amounts of shredded cheese, it's no wonder people have hard opinions on Cincinnati Chili. It was my first time trying it and Loved it. We've always experienced fast and friendly service here, even when it's busy! If you've never had Cincinnati chili, give it a try! Some people describe it as tasting sweet because of it being seasoned with cocoa powder and allspice. So no, it's not spicy. And no, there are no beans (although they do offer a vegetarian version that is made with beans). I love this stuff so much that sometimes I just order a bowl of chili topped with their freshly shredded cheddar cheese. But my favorite way to get it is on top of their skinny fries. My husband's personal favorite is either the coney bowl - three bun-less hot dog in the bowl, covered with chili and cheese (and chopped raw white onion if you so desire) or the original three way (spaghetti topped with chili and cheese). The point is, you can get your chili fix in whatever way you need! I've also seen friend order the Greek salad and it looks great! The only thing I don't like about this place is that they charge you extra for sour cream and they don't even bring you that much. But honestly, the heaps of cheese is probably enough dairy for me. I love a place that is unassuming and doesn't try to be anything more than what it is. Skyline Chili achieves that. I was from out of town and my friend insisted on going. I wasn't sure what to expect but I definitely got what I came for! I got the 3 way chili with shredded cheese stacked sky (bad pun I'm so sorry) high. It was delicious and came out quickly. I was surprised to hear that Cincinnati is known for Skyline Chili. Being from out of town and the adventurous person that I am, I had to walk in and try their signature chili which apparently came on a hot dog. My father and I each got 2 of them. And.....(I'm not really a chili person) so it was just alright. The hot dog was overflowing with cheese as you can see from all the pictures, and the chili is hidden underneath. It could be messy when you eat it, but I scarfed them down with no issues! While sitting down for our meal, I did wonder had I grown to this type of food, maybe I could see my developing a taste for it. But in the end it didn't matter whether I liked it or not. I'm always willing to explore new places and foods, so just having the opportunity to try famous Skyline Chili in Cincinnati was a memorable experience for me! read more

For those who grew up with Skyline in the Cincinnati area, they have learned to love the sweet, chocolatey, cinnamon infused chili on top of a bed of noodles, then mounds of nuclear yellow cheddar cheese. For those, trying to get a 'taste to Cincinnati' you are more than likely to be surprised and maybe even disappointed. Regardless it is a must try and a notch in the belt to be earned during a visit to Cincinnati. Ordering is easy, you basically can choose between a plate of spaghetti with chili and cheese or you can get a cheese coney. For the spaghetti, I always order a 3 way (standard), 4 way with onions or beans, or 5 way with all of above. Personally, the 4 way is my go-to, I love the mix of chili and the sharpness of the onion. Cheese coneys are probably arguably the best and the most popular here - the recent upgrade with the andouille sausage was surprising good - definitely worth the try. This was the go to recommendation from all my friends after a night out at the club. And can I say the place was different than what I expected. Although the place was pretty decently sized it was packed we waited about 5-10 minutes before being seated for a party of 4. When I heard chili in the name I expected something a bit different, but was still overall pleased. I got the spaghetti with the cheese and the fries. Overall nothing stands out about this place besides the overload on cheese on each dish. The overall recommendation would be to have your cheese on the side and put however much you want onto it. The waiter staff works super hard, I honestly felt so bad for them for the rude comments I heard from patrons eating inside. Oh my... I absolutely love Skyline chili however the Ludlow location needs to make a couple changes, in my opinion. In happier times you were given 2 tiny bags of cheese per 3 Way order. Well, not anymore. I didn't think the cheese portion could get worse but it did. I received one bag of cheese and I know this wasn't a mistake because the manager waited on me and put my order together. In the pic is the said one bag of cheese. I spread it in a thin layer and it barely covered half of my food. This looks nothing like website pics??The cheese coneys are just as bad. When I told people my husband and I were going to Cincinnati for a weekend trip, everyone said that we HAD to eat Skyline Chili (it's been around since 1949, so it's a Cincinnati institution for sure!). But not Skyline Chili. I actually kind of loved it! For those of you not familiar, Skyline Chili is known for it's kind of sweet chili (I've heard that the sweetness comes from cinnamon or Chinese five spice). You can get it on hot dogs. Or you can get the real classic - served on spaghetti. Yes, spaghetti. Order the 3-way (spaghetti, chili, cheese), the 4-way (the 3-way with onions or beans), or the 5-way (the 3-way with onions and beans). We got the 5-way. The chili was good, and I thought the beans and onions added a special something. They do have some more healthy options (sort of bland-sounding salads and wraps and burritos) but I don't know why you'd do that to yourself. You're at Skyline Chili, get the chili! I really liked this location. Definitely a mess. Definitely not fancy. But quick, good food and fast service. They do one thing and they do it well. It's a very good place to take out-of-town guests because it is such a Cincinnati institution. Why not go to the original? It's easy to park in the lot behind the building. My first go at Cincinnati chili, and Skyline delivered big time. We picked this location because it looked nostalgic and had some soul. It's really neat! Me & my wife split a medium chili & a chili dog. The chili dogs are pretty small, but really tasty. They were my favorite, but the chili is really good too. This was the worst skyline interaction of the city of Cincinnati. Five groups showed up excited for this Cincinnati classic after the flying pig marathon. The restaurant felt like funeral. Idk what their issue was but they seemed to hate the customers that came in and it was very obvious that there was no joy in life. Why 5 stars? Because Skyline never gets old to me. --- --- --- We are lucky enough to have a Skyline Chili in Clearwater, so I don't have to fly to Cincinnati to get my fix. But even still, we just couldn't resist hitting it up as soon as we hit the outskirts of the queen city. It was half curiosity is the "real" Skyline's were better than our version, and half just wanting some damn good chili. It turns out, the Clearwater Skyline is equally as delicious as the one on Ludlow Ave. I don't know what it is about this basic chili + cheese + oyster crackers, but it just speaks to my heart like no other. I'm fairly convinced I could eat it twice a day for 6 months and not get tired of it. I wasn't even hungry when I started typing this review, but now I'm starving. As soon as I checked-in to Skyline on my Yelp app, I received a text from a friend. Consider it a warning. It contained the phrase "mud butt" ... and that's all you need to know about that. Thank goodness my experience at Skyline (and the days to follow) were all pretty...solid. Because I rolled with an experienced crew of locals, we got real claaassy from the jump by dabbing tabasco droplets on oyster crackers that were placed in bowls on the table. A novice like myself would have never put the two together and probably would have deferred them to those that like a little crunch in their chili. Little did I know, this is just what must be done to prevent the aliens from attacking. There was some talk of threeways, fourways and fiveways - I couldn't keep up. I pretty much looked at Alex S, waited for his nod of approval as ordered and hoped for the best. What I ended up with was a kid's size threeway and a cheese coney. Look, I know it's chili - but chili without beans just seems like spaghetti to me. I did like the little hint of cinnamon however and I always welcome a mound of shredded cheddar cheese on top of just about anything. As for the coney, I'm realizing now that they must have served me up a chili cheese sandwich, since there were no signs of hot dog. Biting into just chili when you are expecting a hot dog is a little off putting and disappointing, so I turned my attention back to the spaghetti after one bite. If only I hadn't been so busy snacking on oyster crackers and having the waitress throw the bib onto me, I probably would have caught that! As I approach the cashier my phone went off I handed him 20 not listening to him my fault .I asked when I looked at it was this a lg .oh no did you want a lg .yes I ordered a lg a LG was 10.9 I looked at my receipt and yes I had been charged for a medium .8.39 I had ordered a lg and was prepared to pay for a LG . So I assume when the caher came back he would ask for 2.51 the difference .he say the manager said that will be 6.70 .how .we can't void and re-ring . We can only fix the issue by selling you an additional small .but it will then be equal to the larger you thought you order . So to make it right for the same amount of product I am now paying 15.09 for product priced at 10.90 . "Skyline, Skyline, Skyline, you must get Skyline while you're in Cincy." That is what everybody told me prior to my trip... and being the somewhat adventurous eater that I am, I did it! Much thanks to Alex S and Allison J for showing me the ropes. I was told that Skyline's signature dish was their "3-Way Chili," steaming spaghetti, covered with their original, secret-recipe chili and topped with a mound of shredded cheddar cheese. I decided to go with the "4-way," which included all of the above plus red beans. Before our meals arrived, Alex S lead by example, instructing me to start out with the oyster crackers and hot sauce. Service was super quick and friendly, and our meals arrived within minutes. The verdict? I liked it so much, I ordered a second helping! Looking back, I probably didn't need two helpings but it was delicious going down; a bit unsettling maybe when I tried to go to sleep later that night. Bottom line: I now see why everyone is obsessed with Skyline. It's casual, inexpensive, tasty, and convenient since they have locations all around town! If I went back, I'd likely branch out and try some of the other menu options such as the wraps, salads, potatoes, etc... if you haven't had it, you are missing out... give it a try! read more

I'll admit, I'll have to check my phone pictures to fully remember and make sure this happened. Okay. Checked. This happened. As an adult, I had my first-ever 3-Way from Skyline. Sure, I ate it as a child in the chain versions in Indy, but I don't really remember it at all. Not that I remember much from this post 12-hour work day, bar-hopping 'til 2am visit either. I do remember the unbelievable cheer that was present here, and the cheer my friends Alex S & Allison J brought me & the cheer I had for being a part of this scene. I remember a very fun & odd exchange with a parking attendant in a toll booth. There was some strange exchange of a periwinkle ruler-sized stick that the attendant gave us. I'm not really sure why this happened. Is this a Skyline pass? Of course, I suggested one final indulgence in a beer at Arlin's before the chili excursion. We didn't really need that... now do we really need any of this? I know it's a big want that's all-focus & no wanton about it! The 3-Way really does take on a whole new look from the first-person P.O.V. What a heap of cheese. I'll admit, my first bite was all cheese, and I liked that! I couldn't tell you if the service on this visit was any different than the norm. I do remember that the chili was just right. That those spaghetti noodles seemed expertly crafted and that the chili really isn't that heavy -- thus necessitating noodles & cheese! I have to come out with it: man, this is perfect drunk food. Dear Ludlow Skyline, I'll never forget the first time I met you. It was my first week of college and all my friends were talking about you. They said that we would end up at your place by the end of the night. In addition to being my first week at college, it was also (not coincidentally) the first week I began experimenting with alcohol use. We drunkenly stumbled down what seemed to be the longest hill...and when we arrived, you made it all worth while. You see, my first night out in college, my first night of alcohol use, and my first trip down this giant hill was also the night of my first 3-way... of the Skyline Chili variety. Describing your chili (thinner Chili with hints of cinnamon + chocolate, greek inspired) doesn't do you justice. Skyline Chili tastes like warmth. It tastes like happiness. It tastes like home. The chili spaghetti topped with a mountain of cheese (mountain of cheese...what a beautiful phrase!) provided a satisfaction that my drunk teenage self didn't even know I craved. You may have been my first 3-way, Skyline... but this wasn't a one-night stand. I don't need to be drunk to want to be around you, either. You'll always be there for me, whether it's a 3-way at the end of a night out, or dribbling little dots of hot sauce onto oyster crackers over a lunchtime date. Thank you, Skyline. Before I left for my Cincinnati trip, everyone kept telling me "You have to try chili mac". Basically spaghetti topped with chili and cheese...lots of cheese. I guess that's what Cincinnati is known for as there are a few chains in the area that serve up this chili spaghetti dish. Menu at Skyline seemed to emphasize the Coneys (chili dogs) but I knew I had no other choice but to try the Chili Spaghetti. I had it 3-way style (spaghetti, chili, cheese) vs. 4-way or 5-way (adding onions and/or beans) since we were going to a graduation afterward and I didn't want to stink up anyone sitting next to me with onion breath or cause interruptions by tooting my butt horn during the ceremony. I was amazed at how much cheese was piled onto my spaghetti. Yum, who doesn't love cheese? I definitely wasn't complaining. My parents ordered the Coneys. Keep in mind they are very small, maybe only 4-5 inches long, so you may need to order several depending on your appetite. Our waitress was awesome...super friendly and attentive. And the food came out so fast. I don't know that even 3 minutes had passed after we ordered when she started bringing our food. We were in a hurry so it really helped. In and out of there in about 20 minutes. The food is not gourmet fare but it was decent and reasonably priced.
