I'm so, so glad I found Slackwater! I stumbled in after a real Salt Lake game one night and was pleasantly surprised. It has an incredibly fun atmosphere and I can definitely understand why it's always so busy! Firstly, it really is REALLY busy. Definitely get on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time. Or, you can always just show up and wait at the bar; you will certainly get lost (in a good way) in their gigantic beer menu. I'm really into trying the seasonal beers they have, and my husband is partial to the Belgians. There's something for everyone! I've only ever tried the pizza as far as food goes. I've tried multiple pizzas and they've all been excellent. I'm pretty picky with pizza, but I found the crust to be really great. I had one pizza, it was called something like The Hulk, and it was amazing! Green goddess deliciousness. However, it was incredibly spicy, so I was crying almost the entire time. I just couldn't stop eating though! But lesson learned, I will get the jalapeños on the side next time. :) I wish I lived close enough to get Slackwater delivered (although I can't say I'd want to live in Sandy!), but I do love going there for excellent beer and pizza as a treat. Friendly/fun atmosphere but, due to popularity, Choosing a time that is less popular or going during the middle of the week as opposed to a weekend will give you a better shot at a lesser Wait time. They do not take reservations, but when you arrive there you report directly to the front counter and they put your name on the waiting list. Definitely a must - try restaurant! Here's what I loved: If you're a beer connoisseur, this is your dream. If you're NOT a beer connoisseur, this is a great place to try anything and everything under the sun. I had a Tom Kha sour beer that somehow tasted exactly like Tom Kha soup but in beer form, and it was amazing. The first night we came here (yes...we managed to come twice in the span of 4 days in Sandy...) we ordered the Nachos and for the LOVE of all that is holy, you should too. They had chile verde sauce and pulled pork and I'm pretty sure they sprinkled crack on them because days later, I still wanted more. The second time we came, we ordered the hummus. It was like a black bean hummus - very different and very good. The bread that came with it was essentially a pizza crust. Between our first and second visit, we had a couple of pies - the Gyro pizza is OUTSTANDING. Seriously, don't make the mistake of skipping over this gem. We also ordered the monthly special (the Au Poivre pizza) and it was a great choice too. The Italian Job was surprisingly delicious for what initially sounded like a pretty basic pizza. Highly recommend. I tried two salads - the Cobb and the Santa Fe. The Cobb was the clear winner, I would order it night after night. The Santa Fe was...not my favorite. I dined here yesterday afternoon (April 10). Note that the menu on Yelp's site has a fraction of their current offerings, so you may want to review their website when ordering ahead. The Mulligatawny Soup was a creative rendition of a chicken curry that everyone enjoyed. The pizza crusts were just about perfect in thickness and crispiness, but the pizzas we chose weren't as flavorful as I'd hoped. Good, just not very good as I expected. The veggie sandwich I ordered was definitely above average and on a nicely toasted ciabatta bun. Although the food was good, the restaurant missed the mark with its service. The staffers had narrow parameters to follow when it came to service failures, so they weren't able to do anything about it. I expect occasional errors in service industries, but making the customer assume the risk makes me think twice about revisiting a restaurant. My first attempt to place an order over the phone was answered within three minutes, but the operator accidentally hung up while answering the phone. No big deal--that happens. I thought she'd use caller ID to call me back rather than make me go to the back of the ordering queue but no such thing. The second time, after holding for over 6 minutes, the restaurant again dropped my call (this wasn't a carrier failure or a weak signal). Figuring I might not be able to call in an order at all, I promptly added myself to the restaurant's seating waitlist online and then called again to cover my bases since we were starving after missing lunch, and it was close to 4 PM. The third time I called, I was on my way to the pizzeria and was on hold for almost 7 minutes. When I informed the staff of my experience, she said they only had one line, so they could not call people back if they accidentally dropped a call. It seems odd that the store couldn't make an outbound call for a few hours each day, but okay. I arrived at the store a few minutes after placing my order and monitored my place in the seating queue from the comfort of my car in their parking lot. I watched my name move from position 6 to 5 to 4 to 3 to 2. I was prepared to enter the restaurant when we were at the top of the list so we'd be present when they called our name, but they removed me from the queue when I was still at position 2. I entered the store and asked why I was removed from the waitlist when my name hadn't yet come to the top. The lady responded that since my wait exceeded a certain amount of time, they didn't know if I had moved on, so they pre-emptively removed me in case I was no longer waiting. That's an interesting approach, but what does that accomplish? Let's assume most people move on after 30 minutes. What harm would there be in calling out a patron's name and then seating the next guest on the list if that person doesn't respond? Isn't that how waiting lists work? There was no physical waitlist when I arrived and the restaurant was only half full. She also informed me that if the wait is more than a "short wait," I would need to check in with the hostess again to prevent her from assuming I had moved on and removing me from the waitlist. What problem is this attempting to address and is the cure more painful than the ailment? The restaurant had one more surprise in store for us. Since we were famished, the orders hadn't been filled yet, and the dining room was only half full (about 4:15 PM), I asked if we could have a seat and have the pizzas delivered to our table instead of boxed for take-out. This led to the fourth service failure: we were informed that they could bring our pizzas to the table but only if we ordered yet another meal. At that point, a gentleman who overheard our discussion intervened and informed her it would be okay to seat us. We took him up on that offer. About four minutes after being seated, our food was delivered. Less than 15 minutes after that, we had finished our food and left the restaurant. That was probably the quickest table turnover the restaurant had all day. In addition, it only required one visit from a server versus the three visits usually involved. Because of this, I left wondering why the restaurant was so opposed to our converting our order to a dine-in order. (If the restaurant were full, busy, or the order had been boxed when we asked, I could understand hesitating, but none of those applied.) The food and ambiance were good enough to merit a return. However, until the staff is empowered to make things right when they drop the ball or to use more discretion (ask, "why not" versus "why would I"), I don't want to assume the risk of a poor experience. P.S. This evening, I ordered ahead from an Asian restaurant. We arrived as they were still preparing our food, and I asked if we could dine in for the order. The cashier said, "of course," and promptly brought napkins and plasticware to our tables. They thought, "why not?" read more

Drinks and pizza, you just can't go wrong! I guess this is technically a restaurant as kids were seen frequently. That is a bonus! Lots of seating, another bonus! I seriously appreciated the incredible selection of beers, there are really a lot to choose from, and I chose well! As far as the pizza goes, there too, we're a lot of options. Personally, I chose to make my pizza into a calzone and that was a great choice. Our server was Kenneth and he did a great job. After past lives as a Black Angus and a Dry Creek Steakhouse, it looks like the location at 10290 State St in Sandy finally has a long-term winner in Slackwater Pizzeria & Pub, the master of many dishes ... and beers. First of all, I HIGHLY recommend using the Yelp wait-list function during those busy Friday and Saturday nights as it got us right in ... instead of the 30- to 45-minute wait others had to endure. Whether waiting or zipping right in, it is all worth it because the food is superb. We started with Nate's Buffalo Wings ($11.25) ... maybe the best part of the dinner. Their overnight-marinated, fresh, sweet (with their honey sauce), rich, warmly spicy buffalo sauce is addicting. The house bleu cheese is swimming is cheese chunks and is the perfect compliment to the wings. My wife had the Chicken Alfredo Pizza ($14.25): Their creamy house Alfredo base is baked with roasted chicken, peppered bacon, roasted broccolini, and a three-cheese blend. It's great ... soft, doughy, the perfect blend of ingredients, and a crust with a tinge of sweet. I was in a Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" moment and had to try a bowl ($4.50) their Mulligatawny. They've created an exceptional take on this South Indian classic: Yellow curry cream w/roasted chicken, Granny Smith apples, onions, carrots, and celery. Loved it! I also had their Cobb Web ($9.75) salad: Romaine, gorgonzola cheese, house-baked peppered bacon, blistered grape tomatoes, red onions, and a hard-boiled egg. I added their chicken, which I highly recommend. The salad is a bounty of the good stuff, pairs well with their ranch dressing. Oddly, the atmosphere is less "pub" and more restaurant. There was live music ... acoustic and not too overbearing. On the Friday night we first visited, it was CROWDED and LOUD, just because of all the people. Still, it all doesn't take away a great meal. Fun ambiance. I'm a pizza fan, devoted to wood fired traditional Neopolotana pizza.... This pizza had sweet dough and was just not it for me. Spicy diablo sticks were filled with about five jalapeños (way too much, unless you like eating 5 hot uncooked jalapeños in one sitting.) We've tried a few salads, sandwiches, appetizers, and pizza. Friendly service, cool place to hang out. Terrible wine list but I get this is a beer place. I wish them well! A lot of people seem to like hanging out! Our visit to Slackwater was at the suggestion of a neighbor who's son works here. My sweet bride and I are fans of anything local, pizza especially. So visit. vvv. ing this spot serving pizza and the like, we were up for it. The atmosphere here is half the fun of the place. You can find a secured corner if you need that, or a spot in the middle of a game-watching crowd, if that's your preference. The pizzas were a bit different than what I expected. Each pizza should be called a personal pizza due to its personal size. My sweetie wanted one kind of pizza and I wanted something different. Neither of us was disappointed by the service or the food. Folks, this might sound prideful, but I feel like I have eaten at enough restaurants in my life, that I know when I find a good one. Slackwater certainly fits the bill. I have eaten there twice and have been remarkably impressed both times I've eaten there. The first time I got the pork sandwich with the mulagwaltawy (spelling?) soup. Great flavor in the soup and great mixture of flavors with the sandwich. The coleslaw and bbq were great. Second time, I got the chicken Tikka pizza. Yikes it was good. My friend got the gyro trip pizza. Also yikes. Both has great flavor and great crust. Service was been 4-stars both time, but the food puts it overboard. Highly recommend!!! read more

This is a hidden gem along the River Walk in Ogden. I can't wait for summer to come so I can go back sit on their open patio and enjoy some of the best pizza in Utah. It's kind of like Cheers because I went with someone from Ogden and everybody knew her name. Ordered takeout since we can never get in - this place is always busy. Our pizzas were ready at the time they said it would be and I was helped as quickly as possible despite how busy it was. Food tasted great but the pizzas were quite small for the price we paid so I had to knock a star off for that. I keep thinking it will die down but it's been years and seriously it's busy every night. This place is a nicer, casual restaurant/bar. The staff seemed very friendly. I sat at the bar. My bartender, I think her name is Shalise, was very nice and attentive despite being very busy. They have a large selection of mostly local beers. The food looked very good, but I did not eat. I'll update my review and stars after trying some of the menu. Will definitely be back. They seem to get very busy on Saturday nights, not sure about the rest of the week, but I would guess they do well most nights. They also had live music that was pretty good. 2nd visit here, ordered food this time, as promised I am updating my review. I ordered a cup of the mulligatawny soup which was good, and a custom pizza, pepperoni mushroom extra cheese, it was prepared nicely but flavor wise was a little bland as was my daughters meatball sub. The staff was very good, friendly and attentive. Our server Bryn was very sweet. Gonna up them to 4 stars, this is a nice place, a fun hangout with friends to get a beer and descent bar food. Before we left, my daughter posted her review, and the general manager ( Blake ) has already read her review and came to our table to apologize and address it. He and the staff here are exceptional. First off do yourself a favor and call ahead or book a table through yelp! We have tried to eat here three times prior and the shortest wait time without calling ahead was over an hour... longest time was over two hours. Finally we booked ahead and got right in within 15 mins of arriving. Well was all the back and forth worth it? You bet it was! Wonderful freshly made to order pizzas with a ton of options to chose from. The appetizer we had was great. My wife and I shared app and main dish and still had leftover to take home. Portions are nicely sized for two if you ask me. Atmosphere was nice was a little loud but not horrible. Service was good not perfect but good, My drink cup never went empty! I don't drink beer however if you want a beer they have the most extensive selection of beers I have probably ever seen anywhere in the west! Wow something for everyone. They are not a full bar but if beer is your thing then GO! Now if they can get onboard with pepsi and coke products this place would be perfect. Apps and salad are good, pizza was ok. We got wings (ok) nachos (good), and caprese (served bruschetta style) (good), and the Thai salad (probably my favorite of the dishes). For pizza we got sunrise (best of 3 imo), buffalo, and tiki masala (super dry imo). I don't know that I'd get any again. The crust texture was pretty good but lacking in flavor for me. Believe the 5 stars! Sandy Utah is no longer a culenary wasteland! Oh yeah, and a bit of night life is now a "thing" here in Sandy. Nearly full house on a Sunday night. The service!! Where did they find these humans? They actually seem to love their jobs! They are passionate about the food and drinks they are serving. We had the Cobweb salad and meatball sandwich. Tasty house meat balls and one of the best marinaras I have ever tasted. Dressing was house made and salad was super fresh. My only complaint is too much lettuce, but, very fresh. Long beer list. The pizzas looked amazing. We plan on coming back this week just to try them. Fair prices all around. Although not a true bar, it has a nice pub feel with live music on a Sunday night! One of my favorite things in the world is a solid pizza and craft beer place. I'm so glad we found one in Utah. I wish it was in Salt Lake but Sandy's only like 20 minutes away and definitely worth the drive. One of the reasons I really wanted to come here when we did was because they have the Shades Egg Nog Ale and I've been dying to try it (I think the Shades taproom sold out of it at least a week ago). I've never even actually had real egg nog, just the shitty stuff from cartons but I heard so many rave reviews about the beer that I had to try it. And it is so so good. If you don't like your beer to be sweet then it might not be for you but I thought it was delicious. Slackwater has a truly impressive selection of beer and they stock a bunch of limited edition beers from local breweries so it's a good place to go try a bunch of those in one place. The second beer I had was an horchata imperial porter that was also tasty :) Now for the pizza. We ordered the bacon and brussel sprout pizza which is a limited menu item for either the month or the week. It also has candied pecans and craisins on it so if you're not about the sweet and savory vibes on your pizza then stay away from this one. But I really liked it! We also ordered the gyro trip which our waitress said was her favorite. We like ordering unique things you can't just find anywhere so that's why we went with this one. It is so good, like truly has all the flavors of a gyro on a pizza. My only gripe about the pizzas is they're like 40% crust. I usually am able to finish a personal sized pizza by myself so that's why we each ordered one but I think because of the crust we almost had a whole pizza left. Luckily the crust is pretty good and simple but yeah only bad thing to say about them. The service was good once it got started but it did take a little while before someone came to our table. The restaurant is pretty large with only TVs in the bar area so if you're going to watch a game, you have to sit by the bar. read more

Slackwater pizza opened it new location in Sandy in the building that started as a Back Angus steakhouse and has gone through several variations of steak restaurants before Slackwater arrived. When you walk in the place is pretty large open environment somewhat dimly lit during the evening but with many windows around the perimeter for natural light. Along or side of the restaurant are two glass panel garage doors that I will assume to open up to outdoor seating during warmer weather. The specialty here seems to be pizzas and beer, as the pizzas take up one side of the menu and the beer takes an entire book. In addition to pizza they have a variety of appetizer, sandwiches and salads. Many of the options are unique and everything is made in house. I ordered the Joe Pesci which is an Italian style sandwich topped with banana peppers lettuce and ceaser dressing. The food does seem to be paired towards beer as it's slightly salty but very well done. It's a little noisy and the TV are more by the bar if you want to watch sports. read more

My husband and I came in for the first time this past week. The wait wasn't bad at all for how busy they were. The food menu isn't that big but the cheese sticks and the buffalo chicken pizza were delicious! The beer menu on the other hand was massive! They had so many options it was a bit overwhelming to me because I'm not the biggest beer person. However our server was amazing and was able to give us recommendations!
