Drove out to this area for a conference. Stayed at the hotel near by. So a bunch of us decided to go pick up food at the Slanted Tree for lunch. BIG mistake! The burger I ordered I asked for medium rare it was was burnt, all the veggies were wilted, the avocado black, the fries cold, the chicken tenders were $9, cold, hard, dry and with no fries. Not sure if your cooks know about safety but you can get someone sick! It wasn't even busy. Maybe management needs to do checks on food before it goes out to the customers? The beer selection is generally solid and the food is good...i'd go 4 1/2 if Yelp would let me, but will settle for 4 based on the service: since they have opened it has been hit or miss. Some days the beer comes fast, food is served quick and the staff is on-point. ...others you'll wait longer than usual for your beer, then it'll be drained or warm before the food comes out. Overall this style of establishment is what this little community was lacking! Glad they opened. UPDATE - 7/6/2018 - the service was awesome last night and they now have a liquor license. I've dined here twice so far since moving in the area, but our recent experience was horrible. We came in as a party of 13 last night and was rudely informed by this caucasian female server with curly hair (I didn't catch her name) that a party of 7 is coming, and so they can't seat us until those guests arrived. She estimated for an hour wait, even though it was clear there were more than enough empty seating tables--only about 4 tables were taken on the right side of the restaurant when we came--and no one else was waiting to be seated besides us. We were even open to splitting tables to be seated sooner if our big group is in fact the problem, but the lady had no customer service and critical thinking skills whatsoever, and just didn't seem to like her job and didn't want us there for her own personal reasons. We immediately decided to take our business elsewhere due to her irrational explanation and unacceptable behavior, but as we were walking out, another extremely pleasant hispanic male server was kind enough to remedy the situation, and got us seated within a few minutes. The restaurant never completely filled up and continued to have lots of open tables while we were there for the next 2 hours or so, so it would've been a loss for the business if we really decided to leave. Anyways, I know it's too much information but is important to share as this is a food service business--I had to emergently use their restroom because I suddenly had an upset stomach after having half of their asparagus soup. I'm a foodie and don't have a sensitive stomach, so there must've been something wrong with the way the soup was prepared. Good thing their lobster ravioli made up for what could've been a 1 star review because it was absolutely delicious. The rest of the food our table ordered, however, were mediocre, and in fact, my son said his kobe beef burger was too dry that he didn't finish eating it. Their steak nacho serving was huge but the chips were saggy, so my daughter didn't eat much of it too. I wish I remembered our server's name but he definitely made up for the initial rude interaction we had with his female colleague. We eat out numerous times and love exploring different restaurants and so we set a high expectation everywhere we go, especially in the "customer service" category. Great place to have mimosas and breakfast on a lovely saturday morning. Driving thru town on the way to Reno from a Girls trip in oakland, we needed some nourishment to keep us going. This was exactly the place we were looking for. Breakfast and a bar!! score!!.. the menu is simple with comfort foods and the bar is fully open. Friends enjoyed the bottomless mimosas (less than two drinks in price so it was an obvious choice). I had the breakfast sandwich with bacon, and boy was it tasty! thick bread, thick crispy bacon and a fried egg. Went here for dinner on a Saturday night as it was so conveniently located next to my hotel. It was mediumly full and I sat at the bar. I had a generous vodka soda. I ordered a salad as I just wasn't that hungry and debated adding salmon, but in the end I'm glad I didn't because the salad was plenty big and had wonderful flavor to keep my satisfied. They didn't seem to have a host so we just sat at an open table. A server approached us with the menu and we were advised that they're out of tacos. We were disappointed. We asked about their Happy Hour. We were advised that Happy Hour are only on drinks and it didn't apply to the food. Happy Hour drinks and food is only during their day time Happy Hour 4-6pm. We were even more disappointed. Happy Hour is the best time to try out restaurants but we couldn't do that in this visit. Maybe next time. It was quite busy when I arrived and I was advised by the staff to simply take any open table. All of the indoor tables were taken, and it was quite hot outside so my group and I decided to wait for an indoor table. The staff would occasionally ask if I had been helped and I would always advise I was waiting for a table inside. A female staff member eventually told me that the party at one table was finishing up so we would be seated soon. I hate to bring up race, but I feel that it factors into this experience. A white family came in shortly after and spoke with a male staff member. I should note that my group consisted of 3 females (2 asian, 1 asian/black). I then saw the table being cleared off and wiped down so I did as they advised earlier and went ahead and took a seat. I was then told by the male staff member that this table was for the other family that just came in. I questioned this saying that my group had arrived before that group. The staff members spoke amongst themselves and then told us another table would be available soon. I wanted to call them out on the obvious show of racism, but honestly, I was so hungry and was worried that if I said anything, then they might do something to my food. I know I could've gone somewhere else, and in hindsight I should have, but for some reason my group and I decided to stay. I used to come here all the time when it first opened and it was always a great time. Great selection of beers and the food was good too. I just came a few times recently and it definitely was not the same as it used to be. I do like how they were able to open up a whole new room so more people can come, but it seems like service and food quality has gone downhill since then. We barely were checked on, had to ask for water multiple times and ended up having to just go up to the bar and ask. The beer cheese from the pretzel bites tasted like it was just microwaved, the grilled cheese was mediocre, and the Irish nachos barely had any sauce on it. I ordered a Caesar salad and it never came. A friend ordered a margarita and 15 min went by and still nothing, so had to go and ask again as well as the check. A very refreshing addition to a locale that is for the most part known as a pit stop and fast food hot spot. Stopped by (the town) for fuel returning from a glamping trip and for grub and was pleased to see the signage out front and happy it wasn't the all too familiar and ordinary. The menu sports a respectable and diverse selection for every palette; I went with a bench mark selection as did my love. I've long had a love of a great cubano sammich so my eyes well up when I browse a menu and find it among the offerings. Theirs was good, not great, but I'd get it again. It was a very generous sammich, plenty of filling, but not a customary build. The ham was cubed and really not as flavorful as it should be. Also the pickles were spears and the bread was a roll, so it deviated from the norm and missed the mark a little for me, the flavors and bite for bite inconsistencies not quite making it. Her fish and chips were good, the breaking crisp and not too heavy, the fries were very good! Probably two dozen or so tap handles to choose from so plenty o'pints to choose as a lunch accompaniment. They have growlers, but of yet cannot offer fillings, perhaps in the near future. When we came in there were only maybe 6-8 others in the restaurant, but soon after it was packed, the very new waiter did a great job remaining composed with so many persons and was very attentive and polite. I'd definitely return and happily sample other items from the menu just for the experience and get a better taste for their menu. I went last night and asked the bartender to make me a whiskey drink and he replied "I had a rough day, we been busy as shit, I cant make you a drink if you don't know what you want to drink" and walked away from me. I felt bad because it really started filling up and there was just the bartender and one server and they were having a hard time keeping up with everything.
