They are good towing -BUT this is all !!! Had my 1992 MB 600SEL towed by them and had a favorable impression. Very courteous and prompt. Being 240 Miles away from home, communication is of importance. Promised by owner but not kept and his front office women did not extent the service to have an explanation made direct to the mechanic to be working on a rather exotic vehicle. Technician is unavailable to clients for all kind of excuses. They did not address the problem as they were ignorant. Gave my friend the car and the Sh... hit the fan. Same problem reoccurred on the way down to NJ. Lots of stops to rest the Benz. Made it home - finally ! This shop is not worth any serious consideration. Money wasted and most of all HOPE to be in good hands and the faith to get a repair, no matter the time and cost to make the trip home. The statement " we guarantee our work" is worthless when you are miles from their outfit and on I95 South in pouring rain. Most off all, who does this to a customer knowing the circumstance having to ask friends who are kind and want to help bringing the car back. This was a 480 mile trip ending in a nightmare that didn't need be, because "Slater's Exeter Auto Repair" was negligent ! Would like to give them for dishonesty a 0-Star...... On a visit to Rhode Island our car was hit from behind and totaled in Exeter. Andrew from Slater Towing went above and beyond anyone I've ever met in helping us. All car rental facilities were closed and Andrew took us to our Resort, carried our luggage in, spoke to the insurance company for us and was simply wonderful. I can't understand how Slater's has only 1 good review and 2 negative ones. I've been bringing my cars here for over 10 years and this is the most honest, caring, professional repair shop one could ever hope to find. My cars are older so things will break from time to time and they always suggest the most economical way to repair something. In probably 50+ visits here I can only remember one time that they found something that needed fixing that I wasn't aware of (muffler bracket was loose). Remember this shop is AAA approved and AAA sets very high standards for their authorized shops. read more

My friend and I were on a road trip, totally unfamiliar with the place, and my car broke down. I went on the AAA app to find a place affiliated with them and this was the only auto shop anywhere near us. I can't recommend them enough. They were so busy, overbooked and understaffed, but they fit us in and fixed the car right up. Everyone was extremely kind and understanding, the price was reasonable, the facilities were comfortable while we were waiting, and overall, they could not have done a better job at a super stressful time. I thought they were one of the honest ones "NOT" Never again! I took my 2005 Cadi Deville there to have my transmission fluid and screen replaced. Car was held for over a week, the bill came to $168.00 for work and parts that didn't exist. After about a month I was going through the computer readings to check the tire pressures and when it came to tranny fluid life it still read 51% which is what it read when I brought it in. It's so sad that we are at the mercy of these unscrupulous repair shops. It's extremely hard to find one that's trustworthy. read more

*Update* I noticed for every bad review they seem to "not find" the name in their system. I was in on 8/9/19 mid afternoon I think the appointment was at 2:30 or around there. I came here for a quick state safety inspection sticker. I skimmed through the reviews and they were supposed to be trusted, honest, and quick. This was NOT the case. They failed me for warn out sway bars which is on the safety inspection list and totally understandable. The thing is sway bars have nothing to do with safety and if you ask any other mechanic (which I asked multiple) they laughed and said they should not have failed me for them being "warn out". But they did and they followed the rules so I cannot blame them for that. What I am mad about is how they tried to charge me DOUBLE THE PRICE for each part!!!! After speaking with different mechanics in the area they all quoted me half of the price for parts! I know they followed the rules which is good, but you are not honest or trusting if you are trying to scam people and charge them WAY MORE then it should be. Do your research on the price of parts before trusting Slaters to give you an "honest" quote. It only takes one bad experience I will never come back and never recommend anyone go here. On the other hand I went down to Pats Auto Center in Westerly and they were very nice showed me prices for parts and quoted me for an hour and took off from the price when it took less than an hour, I would recommend you go there instead. read more

Have been to this auto shop a few times since I moved to the area. No complaints so far, had my vehicle inspected and was out in a timely manner. And early one Sunday morning my tire came off when driving, they responded quickly and efficiently and provided me a ride, staff seemed accommodating and friendly. Brought my vehicle in for a state inspection because my normal shop does not do inspections. I trust them and have been going for years. Slater's inspected the vehicle and stated that they needed to replace a part in the front passenger side of the vehicle where I just had work done. Said it was a Safety issue. My inspection quickly went to $350. I said I will just pick up the car. When I arrived they still charged me the inspection room even though I didn't get the inspection. Do not bring your car here for inspections. They simply use this as an avenue to make money. Sad to say. read more

Never never pay the same price as quoted, they always seem to find something. Have had major work done only to need it done again. There is no such thing as a one day fix, way too many customers, and they obviously have State and company accounts they get to first. Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere read more

Purchased a Lemon from Slater's last May. Had repeated problems within the 3 month warranty, one of which resulted in the vehicle being in their shop for almost a month, at which time I was ready to demand a refund under the lemon laws. They promised to make it right by replacing the engine. When I had purchased the vehicle in the first place I made sure it had a new timing belt/water pump, and asked if the replacement engine would too, and was told it would. Well, the water pump just died and took out the timing belt and idle pulley with it, with maybe 12,000 on the replacement engine. Probably the rest of the engine needs to be replaced too. Their response? "Well, you've driven the car more than 15,000 miles, so we'll have to charge you". I will NEVER give them my business again, and will warn everyone I can about them. Horrible experience, extremely rude staff. First they said "they can't give me any estimate, its a 1968 Benz." AAA agreed they have never had a good experience picking up or dropping cars off at this shop. Disputing the charges and will hire attorney if I don't win one of the disputes. Purposely paid with two credit cards so I could open two disputes because they took 6 months to finish my car, which was never finished. I had to finish it myself with friends and family. I had it on the lift at a friends shop the day after I got it back and they were all laughing about the cost and the lack of work done. First thing my friend Greg said was your rear dif is empty and about to seize up and could cause an accident. I was supposed to be on the road for a road trip and it was supposed to be road worthy by November. I dropped it off in September and didn't get it back until the middle of Feb. When I picked up my car the muffler was scraping the ground, all fluids were empty, transmission was empty, rear dif was empty, battery was slamming around the engine bay without straps, idle was not adjusted, damage to the interior, the list goes on. I asked for the car to be road trip worthy and paid these crooks 2,500. I was charged 650 for a master brake cylinder and 225 for the reservoir bottle (parts only). Granted it is a 1968 200D Benz, the car is a 4cly diesel and simple to work on. I found the same master brake cylinder for 179.99 and reservoir bottle for 69.99 they said they could not use for whatever reason. I heard them say next Friday about 20 times before I got my car back. Not even close to what I expected. Do not waste your time or money. If you need a mechanic call me and my friend at Greg's Auto in Portsmouth RI.4018626709 I promise we will do a better job and only charge 65 an hr. We specialize in BMW, foreign cars and diesel trucks. I gave them a chance to make it right, brought it back and they did nothing just told me to come pick up my car the next day. Called them in the morning to make sure it was good to go. I got there it was covered in snow. I asked them to get it out because I drove an hr to get my car that was buried in 3 feet of snow. When I asked if they would help clear the snow Shannon replied we do not move snow in a rude tone. I had to drive back home with my brother without the car and call AAA to complain to have them go get it. AAA agreed the snow is their responsibility not mine. AAA felt bad for me because I explained to them I was told to come get the car and when I arrived it was buried with a 3 ft wall of plowed snow in front of it. They normally don't pick up cars if they are ready to drive home but in this case they did. Good luck if you take your car here and god bless anyone stupid enough to think your getting a good deal here. I will fight this to the end. Never disputed a charge on my credit card in my life so this is a first. I studied finance and business law at Suffolk University in Boston MA, I know what a good business model looks like. This business if you can call it that should be shut down. I have pictures I wish I could upload for a better picture. Luckily I went to school for business law and can protect myself against this type of fraud. I'm a Jamestown RI life long local and had the car looked at by all my young and old gear head friends, all of them agreed I was ripped off, elderly mechanic friend said "don't bring it back I wouldn't even give them a chance to fix it, they didn't get it right the first time what makes you think they will this time and why let them destroy your car, you should call the Attorney General." If this is really a AAA approved shop I will never trust a AAA approved shop again. I love my 1968 200D fintail, only has 170,000 miles. I would not let them touch it again with a ten foot pole. The only reason I did is, before disputing a credit card purchase you must by law give the merchant a chance to make it right. if u enjoy grinding your teeth and not sleeping at night bring your car here. I was extremely disappointed with the estimating process at Slaters, the overall cost and the shady business practices they employ. The initial repair estimate they provided for a minor body repair job was $1500.00. By the time I picked up my car, it had increased nearly ONE HUNDRED percent to over $2700.00. They farmed out yt he majority of the work and ended up acting as a middleman who had no control of the pricing. I was annoyed enough when the rough estimate turned into a firm estimate of $2100.00. Then when it went to their "partner shop" the price escalated another $200.00. Yet, when it was time to pick up the car, the $200.00 went up to $500.00. I don't trust this company's practices and recommend if you use them to be extremely careful with any estimate you get. They seemed trustworthy when I left my car but I felt th hey were unscrupulous by the time I picked up my car. I will NEVER use them again or recommend them. read more
