Room overview

We stayed here 4 nights in late September 2024 to explore from Buffalo to Old Fort Niagara. We had a king room that was clean and compact. The AC worked well but would only go down to 66, which is a little warm for me. I would have opened the window, but it didn't have a screen. The room was very well lit, which we appreciated. This hotel is popular with bus tours, which means that the small breakfast room can be crowded. We took our food to our room at least once. All the staff were pleasant.

Staff was super nice. Making the most out of COVID. They gave out breakfast boxes by order with water and milk, granola bars and cereal, donuts, microwavable breakfast sandwiches. Those boxes were awesome and we had snacks to bring home. Had private pool times by reservation which was lovely. Lucky for us there weren't many people we had to compete with for a slot. The room was small and crammed but for the $54 a night we paid it was perfect. The main complaint we had was that the vent in the bathroom didn't work. The AC in the room worked great. The room and bedding was clean. The towels were small and there were only 2 and there weren't many house keeping personal around to just grab some extra from but we made due. The cable service was crappy, it didn't even have a guide. The alarm clock wasn't set to the correct time, which wasn't super hospitable-- but easy corrected. We used a friends and family link through choice hotels and got the room for cheap. The kids wanted a pool and elevator and that's what they got. We would stay here again but we love bouncing around and checking them all out.

Surprised the kiddos with a quick pizza-swim-sleepover night a few minutes from the homestead.

Still my favourite budget hotel in Amherst. Great location, safe and friendly staff. I'll keep coming back.

This review is for the hotels's restaurant not the hotel itself…read more My doctor said I need to eat more leafy greens and more protein. So a steak salad it is! Strolled down to the restaurant here at the hotel and ordered me a steak salad. About 15 minutes later out came the salad. Up to the room I went. Open the salad container and found an abundance of salad and a decent amount of steak. They didn't ask me how I wanted the steak, but it came medium to medium well. That's fine. You get a ton of salad and about eight strips of steak. Just what the doctor ordered! Everything about the salad was good. You get a choice of five different dressings. I went with the Italian dressing. It wasn't over the top tangy, I found it to be just right.

I was not informed that they were under construction until I arrived. The front desk employee said they stop everyday by 530pm. He did not say they start around 750am though. After a long day I got ready to take a shower and realized there were no bath towels in my room. I called the front desk and was told they would bring some right up (this was 10pm). About an hour later, still no towels the front desks calls to say things got busy and they were coming right now. I received 1 bath tiwel and 1 hand towel (I requested 2 bath towels and 2 wash cloths) around 11:45pm. Hopefully, once the renovations are completed this location will be a better representation of the Hilton brand. Currently it felt like a cheap roadside motel.

The hotel is very nice. Rooms are decorated beautifully and bed had great linens. I prefer a firmer bed but still it was comfy. Not quite the typical marriott furniture. For example, an area rug over laminate hardwood floors. And a cart that held the mini fridge, safe, and Keurig. I am a lifetime Marriott platinum member and we enjoyed the benefit of their complementary breakfast. You order off the menu (not buffet) and it was delicious. There is an outside patio area with comfy chairs and firepit...shares the space with the attached restaurant (Jazzboline). Would have liked to try the attached restaurant, but yelp reviews made it sound terrible. (I depend on yelp reviews). We stayed in the courtyard room behind the main building. Windows do not open and no pool. We were traveling through town and stayed one night. Kinda glad it was just one night...the area was just okay. Not much in walking distance more of a city residential area. Overall, it is was a very pleasurable and nice stay.

I won't go into details here, but the manager awarded me 10,000 points as compensation. As I haven't had the inclination to stay a Courtyard since that experience, those points expired unused some time ago. On a recent trip to the Buffalo area, my search yielded a Courtyard location that was priced reasonably. I had driven past that hotel numerous times and observed that it looked relatively new and well maintained, and it was convenient. In the spirit of second chances, and on the assumption that my previous experience was unique to a single location, I made my six day reservation online. Check-in was quick and efficient, the staff was very friendly, and the room appeared to be impeccably clean. Good lighting throughout, a very capable showerhead with plenty of pressure, and water that was hotter than I've ever even dared to dream about! Yes, Atlanta was an aberration. Courtyard by Marriott is back on my list! Until day four. After three days of no maid service (despite having explicitly asked for it that morning), we turned down the second bed, only to find two dirty socks under the covers! It nearly triggered my gag reflex. So many questions rippled through my head. What else wasn't cleaned after the previous guest checked out of that room? How long have those socks been there? What sorts of bodily fluids have I been marinating in over the past three nights? What about the pillows? Were the towels just air dried and refolded? Is this a disgruntled employee or is it business as usual? We immediately packed our bags and loaded up the car. I stopped at the front desk to check out and told the clerk about the socks. She seemed genuinely apologetic, but I think she realized that offering to change rooms or to clean the room we were in was pointless. She refunded the unused nights and said she would talk to the manager when he arrived to see if they could award me some points that will definitely go unused. I'd strongly advise against this Courtyard location. I don't believe the brand is salvageable, at least in my mind. Frankly, I'm wondering if the entire Marriott brand is safe. Did I mention that there were ants in the bathroom?

The breakfast was your standard options - waffle maker, cold food items, oatmeal, eggs, bacon and coffee area. The biggest issue I had was 1) they need to do better job of cleaning, especially in the bathroom. Found lot of pieces of long hair that I ended up removing myself using the wipes that were in the room and 2) the mini fridge was iceberg that's been growing lol. It was melting and the water was gathering around the base of the fridge. Overall, enjoyed the stay, comfortable bed, which is important.

Probably one of the worst Marriott Fairfield Inn I have ever stayed…read more Let's list them: 1) slow check-in 2) security lock in room is sawed off 3) no "do not disturb" sign. Today when we asked for towels, instead of knocking, they just used the key and opened the door and let themselves in. Good thing I wasn't naked or doing the nastys. Since the security door is sawed off, there is no way of stopping any one from coming into our room at night while we are asleep. 4) they asked how many travelers when I booked the room, yet they gave us two sets of towels instead of 3 sets 5) dirty. Stains here stains there 6) gym: most disgusting gym I've seen for a Marriott or Fairfield Inn. The photos are self explanatory, it's bad. It's set at 82 degrees, nothing is wiped, mopped, cleaned or refilled. It's a hotbed for nasty germs and diseases. 7) Pool, my kid was very excited about the pool until we went to see it, even with the door closed, from the outside, our eyes started to sting from the strong odor oozing out of the pool room. The water looked thick, reeks of strong chemicals. The pool is only short of having bubbles coming out it like the tar swamps of the Jurassic era. 8) lack of staffs, from evening time to night time, no one is at the front desk, they see you when they see you. Just stand there and wait, not even a bell to ring. The only reason I gave it 2 stars and not 1 is because the staffs were nice. If I wasn't a gold elite Marriott member, this hotel would make me never want to stay at any Marriott hotels.

The hotel seemed clean, but bugs that looked like roaches do not make someone feel comfortable. Positives - I was able to get an early check in. There is a water bottle filling machine on the first floor. The vending area (sodas and snacks) has very reasonable prices. The gentleman at the front desk, Dan, was the nicest hotel clerk I have ever encountered. Overall, the hotel was fairly clean. The towels and bathroom amenities were great quality. The WiFi worked great. See pic: Large (used) trash bag by elevator trash cans - the large bag is provided in room for ease of keeping the room clean and disposing of larger items. This is a great idea being the hotel is next to a sports facility. I can imagine this would help families clean up properly behind themselves! There was also a notice that they are upgrading the tvs to being "smart". While this didn't happen during my stay, it's a positive for future guests! Negatives - The bugs on my first night. The breakfast buffet was just meh. Although there is plenty to choose from, the first day the cheddar egg omelette was old and hard to cut through (breakfast at 7:30am), both days the yogurt was kept in a basket (dairy should be kept on ice), the waffle maker didn't cook all the way through (and no spray to help get the waffle out, so the outer part that was cooked stuck to the waffle maker), and by 7:30 on day 2 they were out of quite a bit of the fresh fruit (the only healthy option). The temperature in the room was hard to control - it doesn't let you select air or heat. 73 was cold air, 74 was like a full blown heater on blast.
