I brought my guests from New York to visit this place because I had told them how good it was and was really excited for them to try it. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. We came around 8:30 PM, so I completely understand that the staff may have been tired toward the end of the night. However, the customer service was still very unpleasant. There were no smiles, no welcoming attitude, and overall, the staff just seemed like they didn't want to be there. We ordered some of the to-go slices that were already on display and specifically asked for them to be heated. When we got the pizzas back, they were still cold. I brought the slices back and let the worker know they were still cold. He responded that they were cold because the oven was off. I asked, "So does that mean we can't heat them up?" and he said, "I mean, I can, but it's going to take a few minutes." My response was basically, "Okay... that's what I asked you to do in the first place." It was frustrating because this could have easily been avoided with better communication and customer service. This is now the second time I've come here at night, and unfortunately, the experience with the evening crew has been consistently unpleasant. It's so unorganized, the employees seem like they're clueless and have no idea what's going on, the wait times are super long, etc. I came last night for dinner with my wife and son and we witnessed many people complaining. It was a bad experience for sure. As I was ordering, the employee on the register was slow and had such a dull expression on his face. He looked confused every time I ordered different slices. Our slices took almost 30 mins to come out. I wanted ranch so I went back to order the bigger ranch portion ($3.75) and the two employees looked confused and didn't know what to say... they later told me they only had the small size because they had ran out of the bigger portion. He could've told me from the get-go and they should've known their back stock if they had more or not so they're not confused. So I paid $3 for two super small sizes of ranch. Then when I went to grab some to-go boxes, and one of the employees was getting confused about the sizes and which lid went with what, etc. I'm not sure what's happening but they all acted drunk lol. As we're eating, I can see customers complaining about how long their order was taking and a few missed orders. They even missed on instructions; this customer wanted his pizza 'for here' but instead they boxed his slices.. they're not listening clearly. Slice House offers so many flavor combinations on different types of crusts, options for grandma, detroit, sicilian, and new york style, sold by the slice or whole pies. Visited on a Thursday and ended up getting slices of the traditional and chicken bacon ranch. The traditional had a thick crust that was light and airy with a nice buttery crunch, and charred pepperoni on top along with savory italian sausage. The chicken bacon ranch was better than expected, ample melted cheese, creamy sauce, and crispy pieces of bacon with a saltiness to it I really enjoyed. Plus the worker gave me a fresh slice from a new pie instead of one that had been sitting in the display case for a while, which I appreciated. It's the little things like this that make me wanna return, even with limited offerings in the display case. In fact, all of the staff here were really sweet. Finally got to try this place out. Love that they have specials each day with different slices. I got the Hawaiian and another one without meat I forgot the name. The Hawaiian one was good very thick crust I wish there was more meat but overall the taste was good. Also got their spumoni ice cream and that's was delicious and they give you a lot too! I've had pizza in NY and this was def pretty good. I think it was a lil harder and not as airy as warm as I would like but generally it was good. I liked the Detroit style better but that's me. For the flavors I tried the purple potato and the Hawaiian hit man. The purple was solid but nothing to write home about. However the Hawaiian hit man goodness gracious! Ordered a couple of pizzas for pick up on a Wednesday night. We got a Detroit style Motorhead and the take out special of an xl half cheese half pepperoni pizza that came with 3 meatballs and 2 chocolate chip cookies. It was our first time having Slice House. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable of the different menu items. We also got some cannolis which were great. The kids loved the rainbow sprinkle cannolis. The Motorhead was great. I really enjoyed the texture of the pizza and the thickness was perfect. The slices of the xl pizza were huge! We definitely had to cut those up to eat. Slice House is such a cute little spot, and the fact that it's connected to the Turing apartments makes it super convenient. The slices are huge! Honestly, one slice can easily feel like two. They also have a deal of the day, which is a nice bonus. I can't remember exactly which slice I had, but it was really good...lots of meat, very hearty, definitely Americano style. They also offer Detroit-style pizza if you want something thicker and more pan-style. We also ordered the meatballs, and they were absolutely delicious. I might have enjoyed the meatballs even more than the pizza. They also have fountain drinks with free refills, which was nice. We spent about $70 to try 6 different pizzas- a variety of both their Detroit style and NY slices, from the daily specials to the basic pepp and sad to say, we didn't really enjoy any of it. The pizzas came out super quick, which could seem like a plus, but they weren't very toasted and the pizzas were pretty cold. We also ordered the Caesar salad, which was OK, but nothing remarkable (nice presentation though). Even when reheating the leftover pizzas at home, it was just not good. I've only been to the location in Castro valley, so I'm glad they opened one up closer to where I live! Slice House is conveniently located in a small plaza with Trader Joe's and Starbucks under a luxury apartment complex. During the weekends, parking can get pretty hectic. The location is really convenient since it's next to both Starbucks and Trader Joe's and makes it the perfect stop for lunch or dinner after grabbing groceries or a coffee. With that being said, parking can sometimes be challenging since it shares a parking lot with other busy spots. We think the pizza is delicious. They offer both Detroit-style slices and classic slices that can be heated when you order. You can also order whole pies if you want more than a slice. I really like the different toppings and flavor combinations and that they have so many. I also really like that they feature a different slice of the day each day of the week so you can try a lot of their pizzas depending on when you go. My favorite so far has been the Wise Guy, but honestly everything we've tried has been great (and my husband and I have been here quite a few times already since it's been open). We've also had the meatballs appetizer and the gemelli pasta with vodka sauce which were both also good. The quality of service has been consistently high each time we go despite how popular this place is already. Food also comes out pretty quickly and someone is always checking in on us if we're seen waiting to make sure our order is being taken care of. You can tell they take pride in what they do. This place is a must-try for any pizza lover. The only downside is the parking. I was able to find a spot without any issues during lunch, but I can imagine parking getting pretty tight during the evening rush. The quality and pricing can't be beat to satisfy a craving for pizza and for me it's a NY style, thin crust pizza that has tiny, deliciously crisped up pieces of pepperoni alongside other delectable toppings with hints of spice, sweet and loads of flavor. It's $8! What makes this location stand out for me is the supreme customer service. I would like to give special recognition to the server Julissa. I first stumbled up on this Slice House (my first one but I loved the SF original restaurant) at the start of this summer and have been there a total of 4x. I always eat the pizza at the restaurant - it tastes best fresh and the casual ambiance plus the TV/music makes for a quick and easy enjoyable outing. There's always a steady stream of customers and delivery app drivers and with that naturally comes a mix of all sorts of people. But not to worry because if any customer appears to be "off" (ie. strange and borderline antagonizing), Julissa is always ON. Her very pleasant, naturally calming and hard-working attitude consistently shines through. But what stood out to me is her extreme patience. This is a great grab and go spot for gourmet pizzas with a variety of options and high quality ingredients at a reasonable price. You can dine in or take out slices or whole pizzas, but I've taken my orders online. It's fast and simple to pick up. I've brought their pizzas to several group events and it's always a hit. I've tried the Super Gold Margherita, Motorhead, Wise Guy, Picante and all are tasty - I can't choose a favorite! The slices are always thin and crispy and that's exactly how I like my pizza. Pro tip- ask to get your pizza double sliced if you're sharing because the slices are huge. I do wish they had better options to customize your own pizza and the ability to order by slice online, but otherwise it's a great spot that's conveniently located next to Trader Joe's. read more
