I finally made the trip to Tony Gemignani's Slice House in Milpitas, and it was absolutely worth the 30-mile drive. Tony is world-famous for his pizza and has built an incredible reputation through his restaurants, and after eating here, I can see why. Like many people, I first heard about Slice House through Barstool Sports' One Bite reviews. The pizza lived up to the hype. I tried the classic cheese slice, and it was outstanding--crispy crust, great flavor, and perfectly balanced. Simple pizza done right. The restaurant itself is brand new, very clean, and has a great atmosphere. The staff was friendly, the management was on point, and the overall energy inside was excellent. You can tell they take pride in what they do. This place is a must-try for any pizza lover. The only downside is the parking. I was able to find a spot without any issues during lunch, but I can imagine parking getting pretty tight during the evening rush. Overall, Slice House is one of the best pizza spots I've been to, and I'll definitely be back. If you're anywhere near Milpitas, do yourself a favor and check it out. That said, the cheese slice alone was so good I'd make the 30-mile drive again just for lunch. read more

There is a parking outside of the restaurant and nearby all around but it can get busy. The staff can be more friendly and welcoming. The service was decent. There's some seating inside but not too much. I appreciate how they warm the pizza for you for the slices displayed in the front. I got the cal italia and the purple potato which were both unique. The slices were big and filling. I felt the pizzas could have used more sauce and tasted dry. The crust was decent. It just tasted like cheesy bread with toppings. Solid pizza especially for the area. While the area does have some good casual pizza spots, it highly lacks in NY... Detroit and generally east coast pizza. I've had pizza in NY and this was def pretty good. I think it was a lil harder and not as airy as warm as I would like but generally it was good. I liked the Detroit style better but that's me. For the flavors I tried the purple potato and the Hawaiian hit man. The purple was solid but nothing to write home about. However the Hawaiian hit man goodness gracious! So I actually came in expecting the purple potato to be a game changer but it was the Hawaiian. The sweet marinara paired so well with the pizza and it was so different from other marinara that I've had. The pineapple was also so different maybe cause it was fresh instead of canned chunks. It was honestly one of the best Hawaiian pizzas I've ever had. I'd highly recommend. Each slice was about 7 bux but they are big slices so about 1-2 and you are done lol. Finally got to try this place out. Love that they have specials each day with different slices. I got the Hawaiian and another one without meat I forgot the name. The Hawaiian one was good very thick crust I wish there was more meat but overall the taste was good. Also got their spumoni ice cream and that's was delicious and they give you a lot too! Also got a ceasar salad to break up the flavor of things. Would come again to try their wings as well as other flavor pizza they offer! Ordered a couple of pizzas for pick up on a Wednesday night. We got a Detroit style Motorhead and the take out special of an xl half cheese half pepperoni pizza that came with 3 meatballs and 2 chocolate chip cookies. It was our first time having Slice House. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable of the different menu items. We also got some cannolis which were great. The kids loved the rainbow sprinkle cannolis. The Motorhead was great. I really enjoyed the texture of the pizza and the thickness was perfect. The slices of the xl pizza were huge! We definitely had to cut those up to eat. The only thing I would say is that I wish there was more space to sit and dine in. Loved their takeout specials and the pizza flavors. We will definitely be back to try other pizzas! Slice House is such a cute little spot, and the fact that it's connected to the Turing apartments makes it super convenient. The slices are huge! Honestly, one slice can easily feel like two. They also have a deal of the day, which is a nice bonus. I can't remember exactly which slice I had, but it was really good...lots of meat, very hearty, definitely Americano style. They also offer Detroit-style pizza if you want something thicker and more pan-style. We also ordered the meatballs, and they were absolutely delicious. I might have enjoyed the meatballs even more than the pizza. They also have fountain drinks with free refills, which was nice. It's the only thin slice to ever exacerbate my TMJ. They use a lot of cornmeal so the dough is a bit tougher. The pizzas look amazing but because they're thin and they also heat them up in a conveyor belt oven after ordering, which makes them become very well done and too crunchy. You know those parmesan crisp snacks they sell in stores? That's what my NYC Big Papa slice tasted like. It's unfortunate because I really wanted to like this place. I waited 40 minutes for this Caprese salad just to find out that it is basically 15 pieces of spinach and the rest is mozzarella. They couldn't even fill up the whole entire bowl. It was basically garnish. AND The cheesy garlic bread has no garlic at all. Perfectly crispy on the outside, flavorful and chewy on the inside. Their daily special flavors are so yummy and affordable to get one slice each of, and try different flavors (although the slices are huge so I'm usually full after one, it's still yummy when reheated at home!) Was so excited to give Slice House a try, but I'm quite bummed with our experience. We spent about $70 to try 6 different pizzas- a variety of both their Detroit style and NY slices, from the daily specials to the basic pepp and sad to say, we didn't really enjoy any of it. The pizzas came out super quick, which could seem like a plus, but they weren't very toasted and the pizzas were pretty cold. We also ordered the Caesar salad, which was OK, but nothing remarkable (nice presentation though). Even when reheating the leftover pizzas at home, it was just not good. Overall, the staff were friendly and the seating area was fairly clean. However, the space is quite small and seating is very close to the entry door. On the plus side, the slices are huge, so you do get a lot for the price. Seating is very limited - just four spots total consisting of three small tables lined up side by side. When the place gets busy, it feels cramped and you end up scooting over to make room for others. I have been to the original Tony's in SF, and so far their franchise Slice House locations in Mountain View and Walnut Creek has been getting it right. The location is really convenient since it's next to both Starbucks and Trader Joe's and makes it the perfect stop for lunch or dinner after grabbing groceries or a coffee. With that being said, parking can sometimes be challenging since it shares a parking lot with other busy spots. We think the pizza is delicious. They offer both Detroit-style slices and classic slices that can be heated when you order. You can also order whole pies if you want more than a slice. I really like the different toppings and flavor combinations and that they have so many. I also really like that they feature a different slice of the day each day of the week so you can try a lot of their pizzas depending on when you go. My favorite so far has been the Wise Guy, but honestly everything we've tried has been great (and my husband and I have been here quite a few times already since it's been open). We've also had the meatballs appetizer and the gemelli pasta with vodka sauce which were both also good. The quality of service has been consistently high each time we go despite how popular this place is already. To be fair, the restaurant was extremely busy, and it was clear that many of the employees weren't fully trained yet, but wow--I've never had hard pizza before. It was almost inedible. I might try it again in the future, and I really hope the quality of their food improves. We also ordered garlic bread, which didn't come out with our pizza, so we had to check on it a couple of times. The NY style slices and thin and crispy crusts and the toppings were generous and delicious. Our favorite was the Detroit style motorhead though. The crust was thicker but the toppings were thicker too. The tomato sauce was really refreshing and paired well with the salami and sausages. Parking can be tricky during peak hours in that plaza. I don't write reviews like this lightly. I've been a loyal customer of Tony's Pizza Napoletana for over a decade, visiting the original location at least three times a month. It has set a standard for what great pizza should be--balanced, intentional, and worth going out of your way for. So I walked into Slice House by Tony Gemignani with genuine excitement. I wanted it to be great. I expected it to carry the DNA of the original. It doesn't. I ordered the Grandma slice and the Margherita--two staples that should immediately reflect the integrity of the brand. The Grandma pizza was deeply disappointing. The top was watery, lacking cohesion, and the bread itself was unusually thin. Traditionally, this style carries a thicker, airy structure with a soft interior and a light crisp on the outside. This was the opposite--flat, overly crisp, and missing the substance that defines a proper Grandma slice. The Margherita was even more concerning. It had no lift, no air, no life. It was extremely thin and aggressively crunchy, with none of the softness or balance you'd expect. The mozzarella wasn't even fully melted, which is inexcusable for a pizza that was boxed right in front of me. I had ordered 15 minutes ahead, and yet it felt like something that had been sitting or pre-assembled rather than made with care. The dough, across both, had a processed quality--closer to something frozen than freshly crafted. That's not something I ever thought I'd say about anything associated with this name. I say this as someone who actively seeks out the best pizza in the country. I've traveled across the U.S.--from New York to Chicago to Seattle--specifically to experience top-tier pizza. I care about this category, and I don't throw around criticism casually. I also say this as a business owner. I run multiple companies, manage large teams, and understand firsthand how difficult it is to scale a brand while maintaining quality. It's one of the hardest things to do. But that's exactly why this is so disappointing. Because this isn't just a slight miss--it's a disconnect. When you attach a name that has reached the top of its craft, there's an obligation to protect it. What's happening at this location doesn't uphold that standard. If anything, it undermines it. There are simply too many better options in San Jose to justify coming here. If you're expecting anything close to the original experience in San Francisco, you won't find it. What a great pizza place here in Milpitas. Located near the Trader Joe's and Starbucks close to the Great Mall. Now, the parking in the small lot can be a hit or miss. This lot is not the greatest but there is an underground lot past TJ's just keep driving through the initial entrance around the bend. Otherwise, this place was hopping. If you can find a seat great, but not a worry on this visit as my order was to-go. We ordered 3 pizzas at the counter from a great employee who knew his stuff. The pizzas are all wonderful. The crust was great, ambience great , the sauce wonderful and flavorful. The only downfall was they were so busy my pizza was sitting up on the counter waiting to be boxed and given. He apologized, I get it, it's busy but truly the only downfall. Overall, it was great just wish my pizza was delivered a lil bit quicker. I always like to try out the cheese pizza when visiting a pizzeria for the first time as it's a good way to compare. The dough and cheese had a really nice chew. There was a lot of cheese but the slice didn't feel too oily; which I really appreciated. I can't recall which Detroit style pizza I tried but I believe that it was the "Rosa". I love coming here, it's so convenient being close to home. The pizza was absolutely delicious, and every time I visit, I find myself wanting to try every single pizza on the menu. I usually go to Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco, so I was excited to find a location nearby. I'm really glad we have one closer to home because it definitely lives up to the quality I've come to expect. Great food, great experience, and I'll definitely be back! read more

Been seeing this pizza place in construction for a while now then finally seen it opened so I had to try it. It's a small little shop with about 4 tables some that seat 4, some that seat 6. It's not crazy packed during lunch but if there's no more seating you can just pull up at one of the used tables as long as you ask them. Now for the pizza, everything looks so good, you'll have trouble picking whatever slice to eat. Caution! The slices are huge about 1/4 of a whole pizza so try not to order too much unless you want to take some home. The Detroit style pizza is really thick so be prepared to get full off one slice. I had the fortune and the mistake of ordering two and boy did it make me full. I didn't take to take it home and have to reheat it later so I just ate it all. This spot is in the same strip as Trader Joe's, which I shop at all the time. With every grocery trip, I would see the construction of this joint one together slowly, so I had been waiting for this place to open up for a while. Was so excited when it finally did! Hubby and I went for date night on a Friday evening after a TJ's shopping trip and it was hopping. The place was packed with a line almost to the door. The lined moved fine, but there were no places to wait for food or sit, so people were packed in the place like sardines. It was cold outside, so that wasn't really a great option. Because it was so crowded, it was hard to see what slices were available at the counter display window. By the time we got to the front, I had a hard time deciding what I wanted out of the options they had, so I went for a classic pepperoni NY style (because I LOVE NY style crust), and a Detroit Burrata Queen because the slice looked delicious with the chunks of burrata sitting on the slices. We ended up standing wedged by the soda fountain for a bit to wait for our food, then wedged between two tables when we had to move for people to get drinks, then eventually shimmied our way into a set of open seats when 2 diners left. We were relieved to have a place to sit and eventually eat! Food took about 15 or 20 minutes minutes to come out. I was so excited when it did because I was starving by then. The slices were nice and steamy. The pepperoni cups were beautifully curled, containing juicy little servings of pepperoni grease in each one (which I ended up soaking up with napkins because, as beautiful as it looked, I just can't with that much grease). The Burrata Queen looked gorgeous with the mounds of melted cheese, sitting there hot, steamy, and super-aromatic. That first bite was a wonderful, hot introduction to the Slice House. Sitting there at the table, I was freezing cold, so the warmth of the slice between my fingers and that first bite that went down was a welcomed, warm hug. I'm a slow eater, though, so by the time I finished my first slice, the pizza was already cold. When I dove into my second slice, it was also already cold... I have to say, my eyes were much bigger than my stomach when I ordered because it ended up being a substantial amount of food. I only got through about a third of my second slice of pizza before I had to give in and ask for a takeout box for the remainder. It also wasn't hot anymore, which killed the vibe I had going when I first started my meal. I don't think I've ever had food go cold that fast before in the Bay Area, but there were were. I was really looking forward to enjoying the second slice, which was the NY pepperoni, but with it no longer being piping hot, it lacked the luster. The taste was good, the crust was fine - I've definitely had better textured NY style crust. This was just not quite the right ratio of crunch to chew for me and the flavor of the crust was a bit lacking. I wanted just a hint of more complexity in the crust flavor that it just lacked - it was a very basic tasting crust. I enjoyed the flavors of the pizzas I had, though, I did wish there were a little extra oomph to the crust. All in all, I'd get Slice House again, maybe in a different season and different time of day. For it to be so cold inside that my food went cold so quickly, it was kind of a bummer. read more
