Unfortunately I had a really bad experience on my first visit to this location. My Wife and I ordered to-go on their kiosk at 8:44pm. When ready, we pick it up and checked my food to found the smallest, burnt and driest piece of salmon in my Combo. Talked to a lady with pink face then to an hispanic guy on the register and both tried to convince me it was the right portion, but portion wasn't the only problem, seems to me they were careless about sending out quality food and just giving customers leftover pieces because they wanted to go home. Im sharing this feedback to the owners/managers of this store so hopefully they can address this accordingly.

Service here was really fast during lunch time. Shrimp plate was great and the sides were really good. Clean inside and nice AC temp.

Really good fresh, healthy food at a very reasonable price. This is a winning formula. Won't be surprised if more locations open up. I got the ahi tuna bowl this time and it was very good.

This was my first time at this location and I've been to this plaza before for H-Mart and Hawaiian Ono, just never noticed the fish grill. Hee. The lady at the counter was INCREDIBLY helpful, I forgot her name! She was a college aged Asian lady with some faint artsy arm tattoos. Very elegant and cute artwork. She was incredibly helpful, since I suck at computers and didn't realize I could order my wine from the kiosk! Hahaha Then as the food came out, this louder Spanish speaking gentleman yelled my Boyfriend's name, and since he had an accent, we didn't hear it..... suddenly the lady showed up with our tray and she said there was another tray at the front, so my Boyfriend quickly ran up to grab it. The lady came back two seconds later with my wine I ordered and two chilled wine glasses! Sooooo sweet of her since it was a hot day and a white wine was just perfect pairing with fish! I got the 2 fish combo tacos, but I should've just keep the fish the standard way. The Cajun fish was tasty, but I wish those spices could have been on the fish battered tacos instead. The Cajun fish didn't have much flavor-it's self. The seabass was delicious as always and the lobster roll was jam packed with lobster! I'm not too sure if you're allowed to leave a tip or not, but we left one on the table so hopefully the young lady got it! She was amazing! I can't wait to go there again!

My family and I enjoy the food here. It has many selections of seafood and my fav is the grilled mahi mahi, or the ahi poke. You can customize the sides with rice, cauliflower rice, salad, fries, or add premium sides like grilled asparagus, corn, Brussels sprouts. If you have kids with you they have options for kids meal like chicken tenders with fries, or chicken teriyaki with rice. I feel like this is one of the places where we can go and everyone can find something they'd like here. Oh and their fresh juices are really good like mango or strawberry lemonade. If you like soft drinks they have a more premium soda that I feel like it's sweet but not artificial which I enjoyed and I don't drink regular sodas because it's too sweet and way too much carbonation. When you first entered you go straight to the kiosk and if you're overwhelmed or need help with their digital menu, you can ask for help and an employee are very kind and take their time helping you navigate and find what you're looking for. You pay and they call your order once it's ready and you can pick up the food and either dine or take it to go. There is seating available and we tried to reserve for a table of 10 but they only have first come first serve (they don't reserve tables it's not a restaurant). However their foods taste like restaurant quality and I appreciate that in their delicious and customizable food. I got there and it wasn't a problem finding seats and I asked for help moving some tables so we can sit together and the employee was nice enough to help me. I've been here many times and Alfredo was very helpful and I forgot some other employees names since we used to come more regularly like once to twice a week. I always feel welcome and food is fresh and delicious and for the price you pay I say it's a good deal.

CFG is my go-to whenever I want to get a healthy casual meal. I think they have great protein seafood options. Recently ordered for my whole family and they were all pretty impressed by how good the food was! my go-to is usually the grilled salmon salad. i like the different elements of savory, sweet, and sour. it tastes amazing and filling. their fire roasted street corn is roasted really nicely as well! Love CFG!

I went here with my co-workers for lunch today. (It was busy / crowded today) We all ordered the same thing. (Fish Tacos) My co-workers orders came out quickly. But mines took 45 minutes! (I didn't even get to eat with them because they had to go back to work) When I finally got my food, the fish was cut in half! (This is one fish taco by the way. And it's usually a whole fish, not cut like this) I've never had this experience before and this is my go to place when I'm craving fish tacos. So disappointed.

Awesome service! Ordered to-go for the battered shrimp taco combo with fire roasted corn and a side of fries. I ended up eating at the restaurant, a server checked up on me once which was totally unexpected. (This is more like a quick fast food type of restaurant). The roasted corn was missing a lil spice. It was much more of plain corn tossed in whatever seasoning and garnishments. It was ok. Could use some more grated cheese. As for the main star of the show: battered shrimp was delicious! The tortilla was great too! Fries are amazing as well and I would get both of these items again. Not the corn though. CA fish and grill also offer plenty of protein bowl options which is pretty interesting.

Came in for a quick lunch. Ordered from the kiosk and order came out in a decent amount of time. Staff were kind and restaurant was clean. Parking was easy. Got the mediterranean shrimp bowl and it was delicious, shrimp was flavorful and the garlic aoli went very well with it.

    $3.99 side asparagus

Disappointed side of asparagus is only 3 pieces for $4. They should allow to customize salads a bit more. My Mediterranean salad had a ton of bread crumbs on top, didn't realize it was on there but didn't see the option to remove it. Size salad had overwhelming amount of the parmesean cheese, pass next time. The taco Tuesday had barely any fish. This visit was a disappointment. Everyone is usually very nice and friendly here though.

ISLAND TERIYAKI FRIED WILD ROCKFISH PLATE
    Ritu V.

We stopped by California Grill and tried a couple of their bowls, and overall it was a great experience! I ordered the new island teriyaki fried wild rockfish bowl, and it was delicious. The fish was crispy and flavorful, but the real star of the dish was the grilled pineapple - it added such a bright, sweet contrast to the savory flavors. The portion was generous, and honestly, it was a little heavy for me to finish on my own, but luckily my husband helped out. Next time, I think I'd go for the grilled version instead of fried, just to keep it lighter. My husband got the tilapia bowl with garlic butter sauce along with a side of sweet potato fries. The tilapia was well-grilled and tender, and the garlic butter sauce paired perfectly with the rice. The sweet potato fries had good flavor but could've been a bit crispier. Between the two bowls, the rockfish with pineapple stood out the most, highly recommend giving it a try!

I ordered the Wasabi Salmon bowl with white rice, quinoa-edamame, crushed wasabi peas, red and green onions, sesame seeds, wasabi aioli, and teriyaki sauce. The salmon was well-grilled. The rice was well-done, and the sauce was delicious. Service was decently fast for lunch. And the ambiance was clean and nice.

A friend recently told us about Taco Tuesday, so we decided to try out some of their tacos. Cajun Salmon Taco: Spicy Roasted Corn, Green Goddess Dressing (4/5). Not too spicy, but what you would expect in a griddled seasoned Salmon. Good! Battered Fish Taco: Battered fish, cream sauce (4.5/5). Crispy outside and flakey fish on the inside. A lot of flavor in each bite. Cajun Fish Taco: Spicy Roasted Corn, Cilantro Sauce (3.5/5). Flavorful and the pickled red onions added the acidity and crunchy. We found a new place for Tuesday nights!

That kind of reliability is more rare than it should be, and it's worth calling out. The tacos themselves are the main event. The Carne Asada, Suadero, and Al Pastor are all standouts, but the Al Pastor especially earns its spot. They serve it with pineapple, which is the way it's meant to be done and a detail that tells you they actually care about getting it right. These are easily some of the best tacos in San Jose, and I don't say that lightly given how much competition there is in the South Bay. But the drinks alone might be worth the trip. Their Horchata and Agua Fresca are genuinely among the best I've had anywhere in the Bay Area and that's a real statement in a region with no shortage of excellent options. The salsa bar is a nice bonus: a self-serve setup where you scoop what you want into containers, and they send you off with baggies of fresh cilantro and onion so you can finish the tacos exactly how you like them. They actively encourage you to take plenty, which tells you a lot about the kind of place this is. The staff is warm and welcoming on top of everything else. Truly one of the best taco trucks around. Next time only cabeza and al pastor in taco form. Panchito is a nice taco truck located next to the tire shop. They have extremely nice staff that really make you feel at home. I usually come here whenever I am craving Mexican food and sometimes it is hit or miss. They have tables outside but sometimes it's too cold at night so I Togo the food home, but they always play some great music there!

The tacos were generously filled, the tortillas were delicious, and the aguas frescas were refreshing. There was a small mix-up with our order at first. Our waitress accidentally thought we had only ordered six tacos instead of twelve, so we initially received six tacos, one side of rice and beans, and were still waiting on our drinks. When she came by and noticed one of us wasn't eating, she asked if we were waiting on anything. We explained that we were still supposed to receive six more tacos, another side of rice and beans, and our drinks. She apologized, brought our drinks over right away, and the rest of our food came out quickly. Even with the mix-up, everything was handled professionally, and we appreciated how quickly she fixed it. We originally sat outside, but decided to move inside because of the bugs. The salsa bar was being prepped, but our waitress gladly brought us fresh limes when we asked. Overall, the food was delicious, the service was friendly, and even though there was a small mistake with our order, it was corrected quickly without any issues. We'll definitely be back! I finally decided to give it a try after hearing about the restaurant from food reviewer Dave fiore text. As someone who absolutely loves tacos and is always on the hunt for great local taco spots, I was excited to see how this place compared to some of my favorites. I ordered four different tacos, and overall, they were pretty good. They weren't bad by any means, but they also didn't quite blow me away. The meat was cooked well, the tortillas were fresh, and the tacos had good flavor. The salsa was decent too, although I personally prefer something with a little more kick. Everyone has different tastes, so this is just my opinion. One thing I really appreciated was how clean and organized the restaurant was. You can tell they take pride in keeping the dining area nice and welcoming. The staff was friendly, and my food came out quickly. It's always a good sign when a restaurant pays attention to both cleanliness and customer service. I've eaten at a lot of taco places throughout the Bay Area, so I naturally compare every new place to some of my favorites. While El Halal Mexican Restaurant didn't make the top of my list, I still had a good experience and I'm glad I finally gave it a shot. Not every restaurant has to be your favorite to be worth visiting. I also like supporting family-owned businesses because I know how much hard work goes into running a local restaurant. They deserve credit for creating a clean, welcoming place and serving quality food. Will I come back? Maybe. If I do, I'd probably try something different on the menu instead of the tacos. Sometimes a restaurant's best dish isn't the first thing you order, and I'd be interested in seeing what else they have to offer. Overall, I'd give El Halal Mexican Restaurant a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It was a good experience, I'm happy I finally got to try it, and if you're in the Willow Glen area, it's worth stopping by and deciding for yourself.
