There's something to be said about automatic gratuity. My experience is, when someone knows they are already getting a nice tip, then why go the extra mile. The food was great. We started with the bbq shrimp which comes with quite a bit of sauce, and only two pieces of toast. I asked for two more pieces. Our waitress said sure, not telling us there would be a side of bread charge. I would have liked to know, and in my past experiences, like at George's for example, they will bring additional bread without a surcharge. I ordered the snapper pontchartrain and my husband ordered the key lime snapper. I asked if I could substitute the okra with my dish, which was a side on the menu, for the green beans instead. The server again said sure. And added an additional charge to our check without advising us of the up charge for switching the side. What was frustrating, was that my husband got the green beans with his food and he would happily have eaten the okra that was supposed to come with my meal; had we'd been told about the additional charge we would have just switched vegetables. I did have to go and get our waitress to place an order for our food due to being gone for some time. The key lime pie was tasty, but not tart. During our visit to Pensacola, from California we stumbled upon this little gem for a cocktail. We sat at the bar and had the pleasure of having Stephen as our bartender. He not only made us great drinks but he was also very engaging and fun to converse with. He told us about the happy hour so we returned later that afternoon to check it out. We ordered the best oysters, fresh from that day and shucked to order. The sauce selection was fantastic, as was their house made sauce (which we bought two bottles of to bring home). Our host and server were incredibly attentive and offered plenty of menu suggestions. Also slick lips offers a 20 percent gratuity onto the bill so it offers that convenience so you don't need to do the math at the end of your meal (I don't know why more restaurants don't do that) my only complaint is that compared to other seafood restaurants in the area slick lips is on the more expensive side ( but it's on palafox so I guess you pay palafox prices). First time coming here, when looking online the food looked delicious! Arrived, ordered appetizers and were served (dozen chargrilled oysters and crawfish beignets) an hour later. It was then we were told two chefs had walked out that evening so they were short handed and couldn't make modifications. Really upsetting when it takes less than a minute to slice a cucumber. Based on my past life in service industry when experiencing any type of delay where food will be prevented from coming out timely it is courtesy is to let your customers know. To start this what brought me into the restaurant was the sign posted out front of their featured drinks. I had pasted by a couple times and was excited to try their lavender punch because it's one of my favorite flowers. I was sweetly greeted at first by our host. She had no clue what I was talking about, I repeated the drink 3 times and she still replied with "I've never heard of that". I came to slick lips hoping to find a menu that would entice my taste buds and an ambiance to fit the vibe that comes with Pensacola's Palafox Street. The location, as far as access, is wonderful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with colors and decor that set the mood to just settle in and relax. We sat in a window seat that is up on a raised, built-in platform area that oversees the rest of restaurant and gives you plenty to look at while you're enjoying your visit. The food was phenomenal- I had the scallops and my guest had the chicken Alfredo. Both presentations were spot on and the flavors were dynamite! I think the manager really made the visit for me though. Andreas stopped by, spoke with us and really made us feel like part of everything they are trying to do with this restaurant. After about 45 minutes without food, we had to ask what was going on. All the food came out at once, which...whatever, but the oysters.
