I have never had the desire to try this franchise out, but one of my besties really hyped them up recently. I'm not much of a fast food gal... but I gave it a chance. The whole process took over 40 mins.. for a drive thru line that only had two cars in front of me. I ordered a cayenne ranch chicken sandwich meal. Not a large meal or anything crazy! When I finally received my meal (after parking in a spot to wait) the employee explained that they were low on staff and people called out. Understandable! However, the food wasn't anything special in my opinion... so in all it wasn't worth the hassle or wait. My family and I have been coming here for years. It's our first choice when we're in the mood for some chicken strips. The foods hot and fresh, plus they always give us a decent amount of fries. I have wanted to try this restaurant for a while. Today we finally decided to grab some food from here in the drive thru. There was only one person in front of us and by the time we made it to order we still had not decided on what to get but the associate was patient as we took a few minutes. Once we placed our order we drove around and put the car in park because the car in front was still there. We had to wait a total of maybe 10 minutes which wasn't too bad and there is a sign that clearly states the food is made fresh so it may take a little while. The other reviewers didn't read it obviously. The food was good. I had the 6 piece and my husband had the 8 piece. Both in buffalo sauce with the ranch dip. The wings were small, the fries were cold by the time we got home and that was it for the complaints. The chicken was good. The toast was tasty. And the ranch was delicious. Never wrote a review before but this restaurant made me. Literally too much salt. Their favorite seasoning is salt. It's like sodium is their main ingredient Honestly though, take away all that salt. The Peach Tea tasted like that syrup they use to make snow cones at the pool. Seriously the thickest, sweetest thing I'd ever drank. NOPE. The chicken tenders were not that good. They didn't pat the grease off them so they were dripping in it, and to top it off, each one was tough. Usually the tenders are..well you know, tender. I ate them, but I'm not proud of myself for it. I was here at 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon. The ladies room was in complete disarray. No paper towels and the faucet was filthy. Same level of filth carried into the dining room. The booths all had crumbs and trash on the seats. And they had maybe 4 other customers in the dining room so there was plenty of room to clean up. The girl who took my order walked away when she saw me waiting at the counter. Didn't get service until a drive thru worker shouted "You have 5 waiting up front!" ... Very unprofessional. She didn't smile or greet me. Just mumbled "for here or to go". The number placard provided was also covered in grease and grime. While waiting for someone to take my order, a customer returned his meal saying it was cold. The dead fish behind the counter didn't apologize or acknowledge him at all. Just took his food and relayed his message to the manager who rolled her eyes and took his meal to the back. Just like the other customer, my food was cold. It was our first visit to this establishment. We ordered a three strip meal with fries and a side of coleslaw and the buffalo chicken wrap with fries. We took our number and sat down. There was food all around each table on the floor, pieces of lettuce, crumbs from the chicken, parts of fries. The tables were also dirty. We asked for someone to wipe our table down because it was sticky and were told that the tables always feel sticky even when they are clean. Went to fill our drinks and there was spilled soda all around the soda machine. Puddles of soda and sticky soda spots all over the counter. We got our food relatively quickly. The chicken was cooked well. It just didn't seem to be seasoned with any spices. It tasted like it had been fried in peanut oil. The coleslaw was horrible, bland with no real flavor and not very crispy. The wrap had lettuce, tomato, and ranch with the buffalo sauced chicken. However, you couldn't tell there was even ranch or tomato on the wrap. All you could taste was the buffalo sauce. The best part of the entire meal were the french fries. They were hot, crispy, well seasoned, and not greasy. Overall, I found this place to be a let down. For a restaurant that wasn't very busy, it was entirely too dirty. The flavor of the food was lacking, which is a shame because you receive nice portions. It was a try at a new place but I seriously doubt I would return. This Slim Chickens (right off the freeway and at the same exit as a Bass Pro Shop) definitely looks the part. The restaurant has a nice, clean and modern look. And the menu has a few interesting touches. Slim Chickens mostly offers chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried sides, and salads with the same traditional list of fast food salad ingredients you would get anywhere, but there are a few interesting touches too like fried okra or mason jars filled with parfait layered-like desserts (one mason jar combined cheesecake squares with layers of whipped cream and chocolate and peanut butter mousse). Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food as much as I was wanting to. I opted for a Buffalo chicken wrap and the first thing I noticed was that it was not wrapped that well. It also did not burst with flavor, intensity or heat. The lettuce and tomato were both fresh though the kitchen was skimpy on the portions. The chicken tenders were not bad, but they were not that juicy and the exterior was more like a southern fried crust than a crispy, crunchy crust that many guests might be expecting. Overall, I feel Wingstop delivers noticeably more satisfying and moist chicken strips with more memorable sauces. The sides were nicely done though. The fried pickles might have had too much tanginess and an overwhelming sour note, but they were well prepared. The French fries were hot and crisp. The fried mushrooms were a real standout. They were standard white button mushrooms and, of course, these mushrooms hold quite a bit of water so they release a fair amount of burning liquid when you bite into them, but the batter was really good. Nice and light. Fried mushrooms are popular in the middle of the country and Slim Chicken's fried mushrooms were definitely a respectable version. For dessert, I had their fried apple pie. I was hoping though not expecting their fried apple pie might deliver the very guilty pleasure of the long gone fried apple pie at McDonald's where burning hot made-for-the-masses apple pie filling would be encased in an incredibly crispy and freshly fried exterior, but that was not the case. The outside crust was really just a standard pie crust in an empanada shape. It was a decent dessert and there was nothing wrong with it, but I would not order it again. Service was fine. Prices were okay. They have a lot of sides and desserts so your bill can really start to add up here if you are not careful. Slim Chickens is an okay fast food joint. I would not recommend seeking this one out, but if you are passing by and need something quick, this is a decent option and slightly better than big name fast food restaurants across the country. Every time we've been here, the meals have been good! Chicken and waffles...check! Been there, done that. Chicken with fries...check! Big salad with chicken...yep! Although let's be honest, I wouldn't get the salad again. It's not bad, it's just lettuce from a bag with chicken on top. Not a well thought out meal. This franchise is new to me, and they put together a decent stab at southern food. Firstly at this location the staff was over the top friendly, to the point you have to ask yourself if they are too good at their job or are they hitting on me. I'm not into dudes, but I can let the man dream. I had their Cayenne Ranch Chicken Sandwich, of which I wasn't terribly impressed. The buns were the same as McDonalds, the chicken was pretty decent, and the pickles and lettuce were standard fast food quality. The sauce was just discolored Ranch though, it didn't taste spicy to me at all. Even had extra to dip my fried mushrooms in, rather meh. The mushrooms themselves were quite good and not heavily coated. Why is there no mashed potatoes and gravy? What kind of South are we trying to represent here? Atmosphere wise they have some wood paneling and guitars on everything, lots of blues playing.
