I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. TL;DR: go to SeaGrille for the same price point and incredible food. We started out with the calamari, which was chewy, stringy and mushy. It was bathed in a sauce, almost as if it was all pre-prepared, and slopped out cafeteria style in a bowl. My husband was choking at one point because of the stringiness (it was literally stuck in his throat). We complained to the waitress but she honestly could not have cared less. As for our entrees, I had the lobster tacos with saffron sauce and my husband had the halibut in a port wine sauce. The lobster tacos were beyond anemic (my guess is less than 1 ounce of meat between the two) even for Nantucket pricing and standards (our family owns a house here--not just tourists). My food was cold and sparse, flavor ok, but I did not complain given the lack of response related to the calamari. My husbands fish--again anemic even when paired against other Nantucket establishments. Maybe 2-3 ounces of fish? And halibut paired with the port wine Demi-glacé crema was not the best pairing. The sauce overwhelmed the entire dish and honestly ruined the meal. The best part about our meal was our daughters chicken fingers and French fries. The restroom was out of hand soap and hand sanitizer (during a pandemic and when masks are mandated). I spoke to two members of the staff. No one would stock the restroom. Honestly, just disgusted at the entire experience. Do your self a favor---SeaGrille (one of the best restaurants on the island) is at the same exact price point. Make your way over there and avoid this dump. read more

Extremely rude service at the bar and horribly made drinks. Specifically, the bartender, Matt was unnecessarily rude and clearly had no interest in serving us. My entire family was forcefully shoved out of the bar and yelled at. I would like to mention that right before me there were two ladies and the hostess offered them two chairs that were outside and didn't seem to belong to the restaurant. Feeling confused and sad because something didn't sound right I sat right at one of those pink chairs outside. 3 minutes later This lovely couple walked in and ask for a table, Without a reservation after looking at the menu next to the entrance. Not only was the ambiance terrible but the service was atrocious and I ended up getting food poisoning after I ordered the scallops. I am a Bloody Mary lover and critic and I can hands down say Slip 14 had the best on on the island! The clam chowder was also comparable to none! So many clams and no sandy crunchy bites. I enjoy slip. The ambiance is great, great location, and wonderful service. However, I have been to Slip 14 many times and have tried to order an alcoholic beverage I am 22 years old and have always shown my ID. Every time they deny my ID because it is out of state. How crazy, when its on an island that is a summer vacation hub for out of towners. They need to re-evaluate their ID checking techniques because my table of drinking age friends were all denied and wouldve spent a few hundred more dollars at dinner if we were able to drink, which we legally are allowed to do so. I am never coming back to this place. The food isn't worth it and the waitress and whoever checks the IDs were just plain rude. Do not recommend this place. Go somewhere worth spending your money especially if you are 21- 22 with an out of state ID. dont waste your time at Slip 14. read more

I was expecting standard pub food but what we got was honestly quite a few notches above that. The food was fresh and delicious. Specials sounded and looked enticing and special requests were handled with no problems. Wait was longer than communicate but it's located on a wharf with some charming, local shops and they'll call your phone when your table is ready. Service was good. We were visiting Nantucket from out of town for the first time in our lives. My wife was a waitress for the first half of her life. She is not a newbie when it comes to bar etiquette and service. We went to a bar by the name SLIP 14. The bartender was MATT. As soon as we walked in my wife asked for a shot, "Do you have fire ball?", he said no abruptly. She asked, "Do you have screwball?". He said, "No, when was the last time you were at a bar?" in a mocking tone like she was crazy. We have no idea what she did to upset him so fast. I am her husband. I didn't want to make a scene, but I was extremely upset. At 54, this is not my first time in a bar either. This was over the top rude. I asked for 2 bud light beers. After which he announced to the crowd asking if anyone else wanted a "Bud Light?" in a mocking tone. Really??? A little later, one of the other guys from behind the bar walked by my wife and forcefully bumped her from behind completely blindsiding her nearly knocking her over and did not apologize. I learned this happened later. I'm non-confrontational, but I was extremely upset. There are other snarky things I am learning from other members of our party of 10 that also occurred. Clearly we were unwelcome from the beginning. We had reservations at the restaurant tonight for 14. We just cancelled because I don't want to put my wife or our party anywhere near that hostile environment. I've never written a review in my life. This IS a hidden gem. Terrific setting out on the Wharf with open air seating but under roof. Inside looked nice too. The thing that impressed me was how well the staff was trained. The bartender was shaking cocktails as we passed so I ordered a gimlet and she nailed it. We split a ceasar and a truly wonderful bluefish pate to start. There were capers and onions and enough crunchy ingredients to offset the fish texture. Next was a short rib taco and a dish of scallops and capers on a bed of wild mushrooms. That was a 10. Either raise the price and serve more or treat the tacos as an app. The service was horrendous. 2 servers went to bus the food we were still eating. The drinks were sickly sweet. This is a great place to go if you don't mind being heavily overcharged. My waiter, who was very nice, said that the meals would be, "very filling." The clam chowder, which was okay, was about 1.5 ounces. The mahogany wings were amazing, fairly priced and very filling. The cob salad, didn't have any bacon (or not enough for me to notice), and was overall not much food, just two small things of romaine and half a hard boiled egg. The lobster roll was good and filling, but was WAY too overpriced. For those four things, the bill was 100+ dollars. For being packed full of people, take-out was only 15 minutes. read more

Its like you gotta pay for the real estate your plate takes up on the table. We were staying in the area at the white elephant for the weekend, and decided to take a trip to Slip 41, as reviews were mostly positive and also saw that salmon tacos were part of the menu. Upon arrival, we were notified that the menu changes sporadically and that the salmon tacos were not part of the menu for our visit. No big deal, we were able to get some clam chowders to start, and steak / shrimp tacos to supplement. The chowder was decent, not the best I've had, but not the worst. It was the tacos that we had an unpleasant experience with; I'm not picky at all when it comes to food, but these tacos were dry, underseasoned, and tasteless. No sauces, no cilantro, lack of veggies, just a disappointing experience for something we had high hopes for. We did, however, get to meet a couple beautiful golden retrievers across the restaurant owned by one of the local stores that made the walk over to this area worth it! Best, Charlie read more

I didn't have the highest of expectations going in, but wow, do I have the utmost respect for this place. JT and I dropped in for lunch on a pretty quiet Tuesday afternoon (enjoying the quiet on Nantucket before the "season" begins) and were sat at a hi-top across from the bar. We quickly put in drink orders (Whale's Tale for him, Shark Tracker for me - when in Rome...) and they were delivered immediately. We ultimately decided to start with the short rib tostada ... HIGHLY recommend. It's perfect to share between two people (heck, I could have eaten it all myself). Very, very good. JT had the pulled pork sandwich served with house potato salad (huge red potato chunks, minimal use of may in the dressing; excellent really). I ordered the crab salad special with kumquats, shaved radish, heirloom tomatoes and watermelon dressing. I had pictured something entirely different than what was served. I had pictured a big salad with lettuce place the aforementioned toppings, but what came out was a beautiful plate of the veggies and chunks of crab meat. It enabled you to spear the perfect bite on the fork...the sharp sourness of the kumquats and bitterness of the radishes was the perfect balance with the sweetness of the crab, tomatoes and watermelon dressing. I could have eaten this every day of the week... Absolutely awesome meal, beautiful presentation, quality ingredients...can't say enough good about this place. read more

Omg we hardly got any food. As another review stated the lobster taco was a joke hardly any lobster meat and for 34.00! EVerything was like a app.My husband had the scallops there were 2 scallops mixed in with a bunch of potato's. The steak was about 5 pieces of steak looked like a small plate of steak tips. What a disappointment! I ordered Tuna with Nachos - a dinner entree described to have blackened tuna (the first ingredient listed), corn and black beans with nachos, queso blanco and guacamole. What I got was a mess of nachos covered smothered with queso blanco with very little corn and beans and almost no tuna. I had to dig to the bottom to find four measly pieces, covered in cheese and indistinguishable as tuna. My mistake that I did not send it back. Slip 14 is hands down my favorite restaurant on the island: the location, the service, the drinks and the staff are all super friendly and engaging with their customers. My family and I have been coming to slip for 10+ years and it's definitely our favorite spot on island. Last night was our first time visiting for the season and we were admittedly a bit nervous after hearing about the change in management and chef. However, we were very pleasantly surprised and all agreed it was the best experience we have had at slip to date. So many great new dishes on the menu and incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu but our personal favorites were the gnocchi, tuna tartare, and the lobster bisque (which is gluten and dairy free which is a huge bonus as my brother in law has many food sensitivities).
