I came here for breakfast but their menu is so big I ended up getting lunch. Service was friendly and my water and soda glass was never empty. I will say I was very impressed with the portions. Try this spot! We were a group of 8 and our wait time to be seating was 15-20 min, which wasn't long at all for a Sunday morning. Service was exceptional, from the moment we entered to the moment we stepped out, the staff were attentive, kind and friendly. Everyone loved their food selection. Visited 2/3/2020 My first time visiting Sloan's but won't be my last. Been wanting to visit this legend restaurant for over a year now and finally got the chance. Everything we tried was delicious. The serving sizes are large and prepared perfectly. First The Bloody Marys are delicious. The German pancakes are soft fluffy and quite large. The rancher's omelette is huge and totally stuffed with a lot of meat and fillings. The omelette comes with the choices of two side dishes. The pancakes are perfect and the home fried potatoes are a must with any breakfast. We also tried the patty melt. OMG it was probably the best patty melt I've ever tasted. I will definitely be back to this place again. There is a lot of seating and a small Full service bar in the rear. The staff are friendly and they got all of our order correct. On Sunday 2/23 we were on our way home to Palm Springs. from the fair and we're very hungry as we were NOT going to spend $52 for a turkey leg, onion rings and a lemonade ! We saw SLoans and and thought "why not" and let me tell you this was was one of the best decisions we have made in quite a while. We both ordered the turkey dinner. I ordered the mashed potatoes ( there has never been mashed potatoes I didn't love) and my friend had a baked. The turkey was 3 large thick slices over the "don't get me started" on the greatest stuffing a restaurant has ever made. Now to the vegetable, you could have either green beans or asparagus. Of the asparagus was epic and grilled!! It had grill marks and just so, so tasty. Our wait staff was as wonderful as the food so that is one more reason to return. Nice discovery on our way out of Indio weekend trip. I loved the atmosphere of this diner, feel very classic , very spacious inside and they also have seating outside. Service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. However, I was very unhappy with my egg Benedict. It is not egg benedict without runny eggs. What I got was more like soft boiled eggs, obviously wasn't cook it right, they properly just popped them in a microwave or something. I take my egg benedict seriously lol so that's why I gave this place a 3 star. Everyone else in my group seems to like their food. Big portions , decent price. One that seems like its been around forever, has all your classic breakfast offerings, and is frequented by the locals. The staff is very friendly, although our waitress forgot a lot of elements of our order. It also took a while for the manager to greet us at the front to put us on the wait list. But they were good about quickly getting a table together for our group of 6. The food is your standard diner food and portions are huge. I was the only one at the table who finished my food. I created my own omelet, and they forgot to add the cheese which was disappointing. That's the best part! The Firehouse Scramble Skillet was popular, consisting of ham, bacon, kielbasa sausage, homefries, peppers, onions and tomatoes topped with cheddar scrambled eggs. This can be split between 2. We stopped at Sloan's after a long day driving and were hoping for a decent dinner. What we received far exceeded our expectations. We had hardly been seated when our waitress arrived with menus and offering to take drink orders. Not only were the drinks brought quickly, but were refilled as often as necessary during our meal. The menu is large and looks extremely appetizing. I especially appreciated the creativity in their dishes. Instead of the same tired items that one finds on most menus, they have added spices, or ingredients to liven them up. I chose the special of the night, which was a beef stroganoff made with prime rib. Companion ordered the pork chop which came with two sides. In due course, a large plate appeared that was filled to the top with my stroganoff. Instead of mixing the sour cream into the gravy, they chose to put he gravy and meat on top of the noodles, and then placed a large dollop of sour cream as the crown. As crazy as it may sound, the meat was real prime rib, cut into good sized chunks, and plenty of it. I enjoyed the sour cream as an accompaniment to the dish instead of having the whole dish swimming in it. Companion had a nice pork chop, with homemade garlic bread, mashed potatoes, and corn. Portions are very large, and good sanitation was very apparent. Food was seasoned perfectly, and service was quick and always with a smile. Okay food! Just a basic diner, nothing to write home about. They don't have real half and half for coffee and their salsa is not fresh. Too many better places to go. Prices were high for the quality. I got a breakfast burrito and the bacon was really fatty and the egg was not scrambled. It was more like a fried egg with big chunks of hard yoke. I was very surprised they did not use a better salsa. It tasted like Pace Picante sauce. Pico de Gallo was extra!! All in all not great. Won't go back. Oh our server was nice!! read more

It was a busy morning but we were seated in less than 15 minutes. Our waitress answered our questions about-the decor and menu. She was polite & informative! She informed about different weekly/daily events occurring at the resturant including Taco Tuesday at the bar lounge. The food & bloody Mary's were excellent. We had the breakfast sampler I don't remember exactly what it was called but I enjoyed it. It was eggs, home fries, pancakes and protein on the side like bacon or sausage. My son had a burger he enjoyed it. Pretty straightforward food and reasonably priced. My daughter ordered a special lemonade she thought it was going to be fresh lemonade with strawberries but it was like pink lemonade or something, powdered and too sweet. I had a group of about 10 people come here for lunch. I would describe Sloan's like a worse Denny's. I don't care about the ambiance, but it is very old and musky looking for those who care. Me and one of my friends split a Chicken Fried Steak and a Chicken & Waffles. - The Chicken and Waffles was meh. The chicken was extremely dry and the piece I had was pretty much a big bone with little meat. The chef needs to learn how to balance the heat of the oil better so the chicken is crispy while the inside remains moist. It's not difficult. The waffle itself was just a standard waffle. What would really bring it above and beyond is if they put some chives in the batter. - The Chicken Fried Steak was also disappointing. Denny's definitely has a better Chicken Fried Steak (and it's cheaper there too). The meat was underfried. I don't expect it to remain crispy because gravy is poured on the top, but you can tell that the coating was undercooked by its texture. - The Biscuits and Gravy side was probably the best part of the meal, but not extremely good. The gravy tastes no different than the instant gravy you buy at the supermarket. There is a lot of opportunities to make even supermarket gravy stand out, but this didn't take it. - The service was relatively good. There was one woman that offered amazing service to us, but one of the male servers made eye contact, but ignored me when I tried flagging him down, and there was another female server that just seemed pissed off. read more

One thing for certain, we never miss breakfast, come hell or high water. I guess you could say, the "high water" bit applied in this case. Lucky us! Our 3-day, December stay-cation in beautiful Palm Desert was deluged with liquid sunshine (yeah, rain), a rare phenomenon in these here parts. Our original plans to trek out to the Anza Borrego Desert was now a very bad idea. Flash flood warnings. But Wendy B, undaunted, pointed her nose to the south anyway, toward Indio. We still needed breakfast, and Mr. B wisely knew to stay quiet. I will follow my bookmarks anywhere. It is an interesting drive down Hwy 111, passing through Indian Wells and La Quinta where "upper crust" does not imply a pie topping and the automobiles, architecture, and businesses proclaim we commoners have overstepped our boundaries. But suddenly, I realized the roadside had changed as my eyes fell on a Walmart and a plethora of little taco stands. Farm equipment was lumbering down the highway and the traffic behind them was slowly passing by huge date farms, groves of tall palms then short palms, lined up with total precision, even the healthy fronds growing in perfect symmetry. What a strange yet grand sight! We had arrived at the home of the famous Shields Date Farm and camel races, Indio. Whoo-hoo. Sloan's is a very non-descript, yellow stucco building that lures the locals, their families, and those who bravely adventure away from the freeway chains. The first thing that jumped out at me was the resemblance to the interior of a popular breakfast eatery in Palm Springs, called Elmer's. The menu had all the earmarks of an Elmer's, the interior was a twin with its high open beam ceilings and nostalgic 60's decor. Yep, the waitress affirmed. This used to be an Elmer's. And this is when I knew what I must choose for breakfast. German pancake. A startling thing. Puffy edges as big in circumference as a hubcap, the thin, sunken interior was moist and eggy and sprinkled with a white blanket of powdered sugar. Butter and fresh wedges of lemon lay on top, double daring you to use them instead of syrup. Take the dare. This is extraordinary comfort food and is actually the original recipe from Elmer's. Elmer's has since changed theirs and I recognized the difference. This one was so much better. I ate it all. And when I asked about their sausage, the waitress launched into an orgasmic rave, describing the meaty links as plump, savory, and most definitely her personal favorite. The Hormel bacon was good, but the sausage....! Side order, please. Hallelujah, she was right! Mr. B needed Chicken and Waffles. And if I hadn't been so overwhelmingly in love with my pancake and sausage to hoard it like a junkyard dog, this would definitely be what I would choose. The fried chicken is first marinated, then delicately battered. The flavors and tenderness were childhood flashback worthy. Flawless recipe, but I can only say that about the dark meat since the Mister requested only that. The waffle, not as rave worthy. He was hoping for a Belgium waffle style of crispiness that he did not get. The final test was the coffee. By golly, actually good diner coffee. This coming from a shameless snob. And, they kept it coming. This is a total winner of a breakfast place. With our frequent trips to the Palm Springs area and occasional Phoenix wanderings, this will most definitely be a steadfast favorite. Yes, bookmark it. read more

Maybe it was the day (Wednesday ) early, 2:30ish. Only a very few in the restaurant. Waitstaff? Extremely slow service, no niceties (smile, etc). I couldn't eat my huevo rancheros as the eggs were slimy yolk with fried, dried outer eggs. The red sauce tasted like an outdated bottle of brown, hot sauce. Hash browns were crispy on their surface and soggy on the inside. Corn tortillas were any but homemade. Had been here a few years ago and it was great. Not so any longer. Sad. read more
