    pulled pork meal deal
    Joan E.

Drove out of our way to get to this place. We originally found it at a barn dance- my first pulled pork food truck experience. So delicious!! Today I had the smoked turkey, Carolina Style, with Bud's BBQ sweet sauce. Amazing! Will be having sweet dreams of slow smoked until we meet again. The place is clean, staff are nice, good music. Not expensive. Highly recommend but come early- they are open until sold out.

    So goooood!!!

The sauces come in a variety of flavors and every single one of them are yummy! The brisket is slow smoked and tender. I ordered 2 brisket sandwiches and sides of cole slaw for about $20. The cole slaw was creamy with a hint of spice and paired with the brisket and the many sauces so well. My only complaint is that I was already half way back to Chicago before I realized that I should've ordered another for the road. For the price and the flavor it was surely well worth the trip.

Found this place Sat while out and about. We had the pulled pork sandwich. Good amount of meat, with a nice amount of mild smoke. I'm guessing they use a fruitwood. It was very good, as were their sauces. You have two to choose from a sweet and a spicy, both were tasty. I mixed them for a third that hit for me. This is a food truck or really a food trailer. Pretty limited menu when we were there. Pulled pork, brisket, chips, and canned soda. Didn't see any other sides or options. Carry out or use the picnic table in the lot, not a lot of frills. I didn't see any smoker, so they must be cooking off site. I'm generally opposed to that, but in this case it works. It is by far the best BBQ in Dekalb or Sycamore that I've had recently. The four star rating might be a tad high, but in relative terms, it's beyond any other place in town. It's clean and simple, the owner (I'm assuming that the guy working was the owner) was pleasant. Can't ask for much more.

Okay BBQ. They run out of food early. Portions are a little small and their sides are hit or miss.

It's clear, and they love chicken. I mean they REALLY love Chicken! First off, they are FAST. They were very busy - almost every table filled and they kept filling after people left. After we placed our order, our chicken (two Baby Bird meals) came out HOT and FRESH within around 7 minutes. With my appetite, the Baby Bird is the right size, and I have a big appetite for their chicken. Service was great as well - our drinks were checked, and the server was very pleasant. What a great place to visit in Downtown Sycamore! The drink menu is still impressive, and they even have a Whiskey Acres Bourbon-infused barbeque sauce.

The restaurant is small but a decent amount of tables for the space with cute chicken decorations. Our server was so sweet and delightful. We ordered our drinks and answered all our questions. She was helpful with her opinions on items on the menu and helped make it possible to narrow down the difficult choice of what to order. My friend ordered the soup flight(only available in the fall) and I chose fried pickle burger. (I know a burger at a chicken place) the soup flight had three cups of the soups of the day and a four cup of the brisket chili. It also came with a grilled cheese sandwich. Plenty of food! My deep fried pickle burger was a thick patty, crunchy onions and 2 thick deep fried pickle chips with a dill sauce on top. The burger was juicy and the toppings were delicious with a little crunch. The Dirty Chicken will be a stopping point on my return trip to Sycamore!

The butcher and pit master, showed me the fresh cuts, including organic Amish chicken, seasoned with his distinctive spices, I can tell you it was a hit with the family. Like I said, this is Americana, with that hint of nostalgia come a lot of food for a very reasonable price, including home made salads, like traditional loaded potatoes salad, creamy coleslaw to more adventurous, Shrimp Macaroni Salad, and Bowtie Crab Salad. Has a pretty large amount of basic and gourmet toppings to choose from. The prices are higher than the crap chains but it's much better tasting. Always busy. It's a pretty good sign that people like to come here. This is located pretty close to NIU so obviously the name is pretty easy to understand for even the thickest skulled of frat boys and other college students. A few words to get their attention. Have to speak the language of the locals. A crap ton of local beers. It's about $8 a pint. Splurge a bit more for some finely aged whiskey. It's about $18 for a medium pizza. That's kind of a lot but this isn't mass produced chain pizza though. Also you can get it with vegan cheese. This melts like the real stuff. We got one of the Sergeant Pepper pizzas New York style. Filling. This comes with arugula, black olives, cherry tomatoes, green peppers, mozzarella but we got the vegan substitute, mushrooms, and onions. Big enough for a couple. They have even bigger ones that are expensive but are good for parties. Crazy place for tons of good drinking and eating. It's located on West State Street. There's good options for meat eaters as well as vegans and vegetarians.

Ambiance is "steakhouse chic" - nice and dark, not too loud, romantic in a booth. It wasn't too busy when we stopped in late on Sunday and we were greeted and seated in a nice, quiet booth. Two pieces of bread were brought out with a nice salted butter. I went with their 9 ounce Filet Mignon, medium rare, with sautéed spinach, while my wife had their Chicken and Artichoke meal with mixed vegetables. I ordered their Caesar salad with anchovies (you have to ask for them). The Caesar salad was just wonderful, with plenty of salty anchovy goodness present. My wife ordered their chop salad, but they'd run out of that, so she got a house salad instead - and yes, the server did inform us of the switch and made a cost adjustment without being asked. A high point of Ellwood is an above-average wine list. We tried a new cabernet which was good. The wine bottle was opened by the server without it touching the table - nicely done! The steak was cooked properly, and was oh so tender. Very nicely seasoned. The sautéed spinach was perfect - plenty of garlic. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her dish. Dinner was so good, any thoughts of dessert were abandoned. We had wine left over, so they put that in the right sealed bag with a receipt so it could be legally transported. Great service, nice, elegant location, great food.
