Were they having an off day? They were out of pulled pork and beans at 5:30pm on a Saturday. I was shocked to see them open a steam box and pull out slices of brisket for my sandwich. The staff weren't very knowledgeable and obviously not qualified to slice brisket to order. I've never been in a BBQ restaurant that doesn't slice their brisket to order. I get the vibe that the majority of their business is their food trucks and catering. Kind of seems like the restaurant gets the overflow and they try to sell out of the leftovers. Their top selling mac and cheese, just didn't do it for me. A 4 oz dried out brisket sandwich for $7.50 was a shocker. I gather the store has been here for 2 years and there was only 2 others customers that came in while we were eating. Perhaps they do big numbers for lunch? read more

Okay BBQ. They run out of food early. Portions are a little small and their sides are hit or miss.

When you walk in at 6:05 pm on a Friday night you really don't expect the person behind the counter to start listing all the things they are out of. I quit listening and left after the 10th or so food item. If you can't be stocked for full service on the second most busy dinner night, well maybe you should rethink your business model. Drove out of our way to get to this place. We originally found it at a barn dance- my first pulled pork food truck experience. So delicious!! Today I had the smoked turkey, Carolina Style, with Bud's BBQ sweet sauce. Amazing! Will be having sweet dreams of slow smoked until we meet again. The place is clean, staff are nice, good music. I am SO excited about this place! I had the slaw dog with ranch potato salad. The slaw was the best and the sweet sauce "topped it off"! The pulled pork on the dog put this dog "over the top"! I will come back to try all of the sides. Thank you for selling a small (1.25) sides. I love sides but want to focus my attention on the main course and not feel that I HAVE to finish a large portion of sides. This also lets me try more than one at a time. The sauces come in a variety of flavors and every single one of them are yummy! The brisket is slow smoked and tender. I ordered 2 brisket sandwiches and sides of cole slaw for about $20. The cole slaw was creamy with a hint of spice and paired with the brisket and the many sauces so well. My only complaint is that I was already half way back to Chicago before I realized that I should've ordered another for the road. Found this place Sat while out and about. We had the pulled pork sandwich. Good amount of meat, with a nice amount of mild smoke. I'm guessing they use a fruitwood. It was very good, as were their sauces. You have two to choose from a sweet and a spicy, both were tasty. I mixed them for a third that hit for me. This is a food truck or really a food trailer. Pretty limited menu when we were there. Pulled pork, brisket, chips, and canned soda. Didn't see any other sides or options. Carry out or use the picnic table in the lot, not a lot of frills. I didn't see any smoker, so they must be cooking off site. I'm generally opposed to that, but in this case it works. It is by far the best BBQ in Dekalb or Sycamore that I've had recently. The four star rating might be a tad high, but in relative terms, it's beyond any other place in town. It's clean and simple, the owner (I'm assuming that the guy working was the owner) was pleasant. The best there is! We've tried a lot of BBQ in Memphis, South Carolina, Chicago and Slow Smoke Pulled Pork is unreal. So flavorful, quality meat in an awesome sauce. The staff has catered a few parties for us and they are so thoughtful, friendly and easy to work with. Its our number one choice when we're throwing birthday parties, etc. PS - I'm reading some random negative reviews below and laughing. BBQ isn't cheap to cook, so of course its priced the way it is. If you prefer cheap food go to a fast food restaurant. We've been customers since 2011 and have never thought the prices were anything but fair. First time here after hearing great things about their food truck. The place is clean and new. There was almost now seating at 12:30 but opened end up after I found a seat. I had the large brisket sandwich after trying a sample. They ran out of pork and I was the last brisket sandwich. The Brisket was really tasty and smoked well. I had the coleslaw which was also great. The cons. They did not have tap water, I had to buy a $2 bottle of water if I wanted a drink. Also the coleslaw was $1.25 for a small cup, maybe 5 bites. All in the the sandwich, coleslaw and water it was $15.50. To me his is a little pricey for a sandwich, slaw and a bottle of water. They should offer tap water and some sort of "meal." Probably won't come back unless I get a craving for the sandwich and will only buy the sandwich and get it to go. read more

WOW! I've been wanting to go to this place for a few weeks and I finally made it here today. We were greeted when we walked through the door and offered samples of anything we wanted. As we were looking at the menu, the girl offered us a sample plate of brisket, Turkey and pulled pork. I am so happy she did that! I was too shy to ask but it really helped me decide what to order. I ordered the Carolina pulled pork and the bacon potato salad. My partner ordered the smoked sausage and corn casserole. They also gave us complimentary corn bread. Everything was EXCELLENT! $22 FOR food and drinks and we brought half of it home. As we were finishing out meal a man (the owner?) gave us samples of pickled green beans. I hope they will start garnishing all their sandwiches with a pickled green bean. The people working here were so pleasant! Everyone was friendly, helpful and just nice to be around! I felt so welcome and it was apparent they were all proud of the food they were serving. That in itself goes such a long way when trying a new restaurant. We will definitely come back, I'm looking forward to trying the brisket sandwich and the homemade Mac and cheese. The menu is well presented and not overly complicated (although my only suggestion is to offer any of their bbq as a plate rather than a sandwich) Brisket and smoked turkey were both very good. We found them in the Sycamore Farm N Fleet parking lot. The old lady said she wasn't hungry, but that changed once she tried a sample of the smoked turkey. It was perfect. I picked up a beef brisket sandwich for myself. We also tried the three bean and potato salads. Everything was great. I can't wait to see them again around town. We recently took the family to their restaurant. The food was even better than I remembered it being on the food truck. The food is amazing. I've lived all over down south, and I can honestly say this place has the best of them beat. The place was very clean, and the staff were friendly. Even our shy baby was waving bye when we left. Took a drive out to Sycamore to specifically go to slow smoke BBQ, was not disappointed the brisket sandwich was really good not salty at all and flavorful. the pulled pork sandwich was also very good we liked the sides, coleslaw and corn casserole. My wife was disappointed that the big beans were sold out but we came late in the day. The staff was very friendly and helpful very pleasant. So thought I would drop in today and check out the smoke at this place. I ordered the medium sized brisket and a side of the baked beans. The baked beans were pretty good. But the real reason I stopped here was for the smoked brisket. I've gone to many places in IL including South Moon, Firewater, Q BBQ and Chucks to name a few. I have to say that this was the worst tasteless brisket I have ever experienced. I was charged $12.05 with tax for pretty good beans and brisket sandwich that was worthless. For two pulled pork sandwiches, two drinks, a small cup of coleslaw and a side of beans was $26.00. There's no chicken options, and every menu item is outrageously over priced. The one good thing I have to say about this place is the fact they put sausage in their baked beans, it was that extra nudge I really like. I was really looking forward to this place, and was completely let down. They really need help on their management skills, their menu needs adjustments and so does their bbq sauce. The flavor is there, there is no doubt about this. They use quality meat, you can tell this isnt a fast food joint, its real smoked meat no nonsense. I went in with my mom and got a carolina which was great but she got the slow smoked sausage. Sounded really good but ended up being just a bare sausage on a bun. About 3 bites. She was really underwhelmed for $7. I'm still a fan but i cant help noticing that many people have gotten the same vibe. Its hard to even get in. This place has weird hours , right now i guess theyre closed for 2 whole weeks. Its tasty.. but expensive and when i leave im still kinda hungry. I really think that this place has the potential to captivate the entire town , they really need to focus on 2 things though.. getting people full and providing more round the clock service. They have a very conservative approach that undoubtedly comes from years of operating out of food trucks. If they want this restaurant to really take off, it will require a more dedicated approach. The hours have to change.. they cannot be sold out and they have to make the meals bigger. Were talking smoked meat here.. briskets.. sausages.. If you ever had true BBQ you don't want to bother stopping here, not that the food was terrible, it was just OK and horribly over priced. Large Beef Brisket Sandwich, Corn Casserole and a Sweet Tea, $17.50. Maybe worth half that price. It's one thing to limit the size of your portions, it's simply bad business to have your staff when preparing your food you weigh it in front of the customer. Real BBQ, not so much. A truly good BBQ joint makes there own sweet tea. Not here they charge you $2.50 for a processed plastic bottle of sweet tea. They charge my friend $2.00 for a bottle of water instead of giving you a glass of ice water. Corn Casserole, looked promising, but the lack of flavor forced me to add salt to it and I very rarely add salt to well flavored food. The bottom line here is you can tell the owners a very concerned about squeezing ever penny they can out of the customer. Actually adding a 3% processing fee to your bill if you use a debit card is really pretty bush league. Again, food wasn't bad, far from great and not worth the money. We used Slow Smoke catering for our outdoor bbq style wedding. It was amazing! We have been loyal customers in the Sycamore area, but for the wedding they travelled to Starved Rock State Park. As a bride, i pestered them with emails for months making sure the day would go perfectly. They answered every email promptly and were so pleasant and friendly. When I arrived at the wedding they had everything set up perfectly. The food was amazing! We ordered pulled pork, italian beef, hot dogs, and their two potato salads. After the event, they wrapped everything up in foil for us to take home! Great service! read more

Stopped in for lunch today. They opened a permanent little walk in restaurant. Only one customer in line before me. He ordered, I ordered, and we waited, and waited, and waited. I'm watching the minutes tick away from my lunch "hour". How long can it take to slap some meat on a bun, wrap and bag it? He gets his order and leaves. They start my order. Ohhhh, I see the problem. They are filling phone orders and making people who walk in wait. He makes one of my two sandwiches. Halfway there! I'm relieved! Oh no, the honcho comes over and tells him he better start working on a phone order before he finishes my order. No ! ! ! I speak up and say my lunch "hour" is almost over. Instead of an I'm sorry, we'll finish you up right away, he says, "You can always phone in your order ahead." Well obviously, as there was no concern for walk in orders. The way I look at it, 2 polite employees are slaving their butts off trying to get orders done. The cashier is just standing there looking pretty do nothing. And the honcho is on the cell phone, probably taking call in orders. 50% of the employees are standing around. Oh, and they have to bag up a large order from a patron who was dining in and wanted to carry out some food, and gave him 4 small bags to carry out because they ran out of large bags. Now wait for the dine in customer who brings her left overs and wants them wrapped to go. Finally my order is complete. Update: Saved the sandwiches until later this afternoon because I couldn't eat them on the job. Wife and I nixed this place for catering our bowling banquet. Brisket was dry dry dry as in need to gulp some water after every bite. The "Carolina" had cole slaw on it, that you could hear "crunch", but no taste to it. Just an overly sweet smoked meat on a bun that could not hold up to pulled meat juice. My advice to management: Go to Portillo's and see how work responsibilities are delegated so no one is standing around and see how different stations make " in restaurant orders versus phone orders " so customers aren't ignored in line. Another hint: Throw in a few napkins in carry out bags. And who needs mustard and ketchup packets at the condiment counter for BBQ? Some extra BBQ sauce to squirt on a sandwich would be nice. How ever the reason why I'm rating this so poorly is for he reason when I went to use my credit card I was told there would be a 3% fee added to my total. Not sure why that is but I found it very unsettling. That your charge your customers 3% just to use there credit or debit cards. Ok, so I frequented this establishment last year. I loved the brisket. It fell apart, was basically shredded, and oh so delicious. Was pricey but worth it in my opinion at $9.50 for a big brisket sandwich (plus .50 for a debit transaction). But I digress, was ok with the price cause it was what I dreamed about the night before. So I waited all winter for them to come back, not sure why they couldn't make bbq in the winter but whatevs. Anywho, I went there today for their opening and I was completely underwhelmed. The brisket was big meat slabs on a bun. That's it. Not to mention half of it was inedible, being all fat and tough. My wife loved them too and was p.o.'d when her sandwich was the same. Also, they are $10.50 this year for a big. What? Yes. Cost of living I suppose. The flavor was smoky and the bbq sauce is decent, had better. They either went with a cheaper meat source or cut of brisket, or didn't cook it long enough/different and then shred it like before. Either way, was dissapointed with it and felt ripped off when I paid 18.00 for a big and a regular. No drink or chips, dat be extra of course. For an opening day, they must not want to be in business very long. Not those prices anyway. Their pulled pork last year was ok but I see that has also went up in price ($6.50) but didn't get any this on this trip. the only negative review on here is crazy! Slow smoke is hands down the best BBQ i have had In Illinois. The brisket is so juicy and tender it melts in your mouth. The barbecue sauce selection is the icing on the cake. If you like fantastic bbq this is the place to go hands down!!!! read more
