Don't let the shack fool you or detour you from giving this spot a chance. This little shack definitely delivers the smack with the chicken sandwiches. The guy working there was really polite and had a lot patience with the customers.

BOMB! BOMB!!! This place is so good, my spouse, and I shared everything thanks to the chef in the kitchen because we wouldn't have finished our meals. The portions are so big and it was just so darn good. We will definitely be back.

Yum. Chicken sandwiches abound. Sweet and savory versions. We went with a 'simple' one since it was our first time. Gigantic fried chicken breast (seriously could feed 2 people; do they serve the food in a to-go box on purpose, knowing you're taking some home?), lettuce, pickles, ranch dressing. So flavorful. The one I wanted to try had jam and candied jalapeños. Also, no peppers today. Today (Monday), all sandwiches were $10 and included fries. The fries are a trip: salt, pepper and sugar-seasoned. Sounds weird, but is delicious. The sugar is subtle and effective. Don't add ketchup and ruin them! Burgers are also on the menu. Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Go there.

Happy one year anniversary to Smack's chicken shack Celebrated the new year with a fabulous family meal at the one year anniversary event of Smack's Chicken Shack. I was blessed with awesome company and delicious food! What can I say that you probably haven't already heard of or know for yourself about this place? I mean, wow! This sandwich is huge in size and flavor (Nashville Hot). A few other choices were Buffalo, Classic, and a PB&J! I loved how moist the chicken was but secretly obsessed with how soft the bread was And man, with your choice of Sugar or S&P fries (Sugar are the way to go) all for $12, it's a sold value But talking about Smack's without mentioning the decor would be just wrong. The vibe of this whole spot is most certainly a nostalgic, hip-hop infused landscape of art, collectibles and trinkets...and I loved every single choice. Their back area is a great spot to kick it and snap some pics of some dope art too. But as you drive down Hildebrand, you'll most certainly catch the amazing murals outside on their front entrance. DMX, Biggie, Nas, Pun, Em...one of the dippers murals in the city. @smackschickenshack is without a doubt in the conversation of San Antonio's King of the Chicken Sando but the only reason I didn't give the 5th star was the lack of communication regarding our wait time for food (hard with kids) and cleanliness in the dining room at the time we were eating. Being short staffed will lead to this, I know. They can't all be 5 star reviews but if we're talking about just the Sando, it's 5 stars for sure! Hope your first meal of 20$$ was also a good one. Cheers to many more fantastic family meals in this beautiful city!

I know I already have a review for this place, but that was for the food truck. I finally had the opportunity to visit the new physical restaurant, and boy! It is beautiful! If you live in San Antonio and have not visited this place, you are missing out on one of life's pleasures. The menu is unique and offers a wide range of chicken sandwiches, which I may add are humongous! You definitely get your money's work of food. I've never had the wings but decided to get the ones with peanut butter drizzled on them. They are so good. I highly recommend trying them. The owner is a genuine sweetheart and always has the attitude that your business is valued. I have read some of the reviews, and yes, it's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea. Some ppl prefer Chick-fil-a, which I ate once and wanted to cut my tongue out tasting that food it was so bland. But for those of us who love this place and its unique foods- it is a cult classic. You owe it to yourself to see if you like it!

Chicken sandwich places seem to be popping up all over the place. Well, if you want to try a GOOD one, check out Smack's! The sandwiches are BIG, like get ready to hear people say "Oh wow!" or "I could never eat all this!" when they get theirs! The flavors are on point! The Buffalo sauce is perfect, IMO. Just the right spice and freaking fantastic on the chicken. The menu is packed with good options for different tastes so everyone should be able to find something that speaks to them. I mean, I'm not the only one food speaks to, right?? So...quit messing around. Get over to Smack's and get a big heaping mess of deliciousness that'll have you licking your fingers in happiness!! Follow me on Instagram at CheatDay_SA and let's talk food!! Boom!

Have followed Smack's Chicken since they first started doing pop ups at local markets & fairs. They eventually got a food truck and super happy to see they now have opened up a brick & mortar location. This is the epitome of hard work & determination. Inside, you feel like you're walking into a nostalgic 80's era with walls filled with packaged toys & vintage items, beautifully spray painted & designed walls and plenty of ample seating for those who want to socially distance. They also have a large patio with plenty of seating. The chicken sandwiches are HUGE! They have several different options and I tried the Peanut Butter & Jelly Chicken sandwich which was excellent. They also have many different wing options. Don't forget the FAYGO Brand soda from up north to wash all the good food down.

So. First off. I wanted to love this place but to be honest at $13 a pop for a chicken sandwich I'm on the fence. I had the Korean and it was ok. Came with sauce and broccoli slaw. It was ok. The chicken was outstanding and maybe I ordered wrong. For $13 you get a fairly big sandwich and handful of hand it fries. I will return and try another sandwich and hopefully I'll be as impressed as others. They have santizier everywhere and spaced out seating so.this is a huge plus. Enjoy. The picture is of the sandwich with and without the bun.

    Thai sandwich with fries
    Greg H.

Had the Thai chicken sandwich and loaded french fries basket. I felt it was a little expensive for the relative quality. The Thai sandwich had a cheese sauce and a sweet Thai chili sauce. The combination of flavors was more of a conflict than harmonized yumminess. The same flavors converged in the loaded french fries. The plain fries that came with the sandwich and had simply season salt were better in my opinion. The loaded fries and the sandwich/fries was $27. I felt the prices were not well published and the guy taking the orders on his phone could have been making up the priced for all I know. Since we stopped in at Hopscotch it was close, easy and convenient. Being familiar with downtown I would likely go elsewhere if given the choice.

*EXPERIENCE DURING COVID-19* Happy national fried chicken day aka. perfect day to write a review of one of my favorite fried chicken sando spots in The Alamo city! Smack's Chicken Shack started over a year ago with a small table outside Brick at Blue Star. Their quality in fried chicken sandos hasn't changed, but their menu has definitely expanded. The esposo and I visited their new food truck location in the St. Mary's strip this past weekend, and I am so glad we did. We arrived to the food truck at exactly 1:15pm (15min after they opened) and they already had an hour wait due to all the phone orders. One of the guys from their team suggested to try again for dinner time (5pm-ish) because it usually slows down by then. We don't live too far from the area, so decided to take his advice and come back to a later time. During our second attempt, they wait time was no more than 15min. After looking at their Instagram, the esposo order their HoodRat Sando and I went for their classic Nashville Hot Chicken Sando. For those of you who don't know, the hoodrat sando is a giant fried chicken sandwich with queso and hot cheetos. Even though the hoodrat looked so much better, the Nashville was ten times more delicious! Their Nashville Hot Chicken is cooked to perfection and isn't too oily like other sandwiches. Both sandwiches came with a side of fries, which has sugar and something else. The fries were equally delicious and cooked to perfection. If you love fried chicken, you are going to love Smack's Chicken Shack!

    Lemon Pepper Chicken
    Frankie M.

Wanting to try venue for awhile now and finally got a chance to do it. I ordered the Lemon Pepper Chicken sandwich with their fries. The sandwich was the bomb and really filled me up. I had one around 1:30p and wasn't hungry the rest of the day with an exception of having fruits that evening. Their fries is tasty but after a bit, I think I started tasting some sort of sugar. I thought it was just sea salt but it has some sort of sugary sweet to it. I think next time, I will ask for no sweets on my fries. Overall, I like this place. Pros: Delicious and unique Sandwiches. They have one picnic table that you can seat and eat but no shade. Pros: sweet or sugar in their fries. They also don't sell drinks so you'll have to get it somewhere else.

Fries with chicken, cheese sauce and sweet thai chili sauce.

Visited the shack near Hopscotch. Limited outdoor seating. Chicken sandwich was really good. Large breast, light and flavorful coating, moist and tender. Hot flavor, but just right with a soft bun. Comes with fries that have a sweetness to them. If you order the fries as a separate entree plate, they come with the chicken cut into bite sized pieces - try them with the cheese sauce and thai chili sauce. We recommend giving them a try. As of the date we visited, the gift shop inside Hopscotch validates parking if you use the Travis garage (super close to the Shack!). I recommend brining your own drink. Want a soda? You have to purchase that inside the adjacent building that houses Hopscotch (not part of the Shack - at a bar and their Diet Coke tastes really funky).

The Smackerel Nashville Hot Chicken is mind blowing! Simple, spicy, and succulent...this is what chicken sandwich dreams are made of! I usually find them pop up in Blue Star outside of The Brick on the weekends. Come early or these bad boys will sell out! I have also tried the lemon pepper sandwich and PBJ styles, too. They all have that homemade feel that you can't get anywhere else. The staff is always friendly and open to feedback. The buns they use have improved over the times I have been there and are more sturdy for the massive breaded chicken that is the highlight of their sandwich show! My goodness I need one now! If you haven't had one, then it's a must try at one of their pop-ups or kitchen takeovers.

Hey I y'all was wondering if the fries are supposed to be sweet? I got it a while back from a food truck park and the fries tasted more like candy 😅. I was wondering if maybe I got a bad batch or if I should just say no sugar or seasoning next time?

Yes we do a sugar seasoning on our fries. You can ask for no seasoning if you’d like.

I saw that they usually serve at various locations, is the St.Marys one a permanent place? For example would I be able to go there anytime to grab a sandwich?

Pete's Hot Chicken is one of my go-to lunch spots, and this visit was another winner…read more The Chicken Caesar Salad was honestly a 10/10. The lettuce was super fresh and crunchy, the dressing was just right, and adding the crispy chicken in mild was the perfect choice. It had just enough heat to make the salad even better without being overpowering. You can never go wrong with the hot chicken tenders. They're a classic for a reason...crispy, juicy, and consistently delicious every time. And let's talk about the bacon mac and cheese. It's easily the best in San Antonio and a must-order every single visit. So creamy, cheesy, and loaded with bacon. We also tried the jalapeño smash burger, and wow. It was juicy, flavorful, served hot, and had the perfect amount of kick. If you're looking for a great weekend lunch, Pete's Hot Chicken is always a solid choice. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and consistently good. We'll definitely be back.

There is seating on the outside that is covered and has fans. Inside has a cool vibe, with many games to keep you busy until food arrives and possibly after. They gave a military discount and appreciate the military. Food was VERY Tasty all around!! Not your average Hot Chicken place, from fresh buns, to crispy chicken on the outside to tender on the inside with good flavor. Only one problem, is wish that we lived closer

There was even a photographer floating around capturing moments throughout the restaurant. We grabbed seats at the bar and started with the Lavender Lemonade topped with Belvedere. Smooth, refreshing, and the lavender flavor was a nice touch. Now, the food! The collard dip was AMAZING - and yes, you read that right...collards! Definitely one of the highlights of the meal. The bowl of gumbo was also flavorful, although it was definitely on the salty side, which happens to be right up my alley. The Praline French Toast was really good! The egg-to-bread ratio was spot on, giving it that perfect custardy texture without being overly heavy. And the side of bacon was cooked just the way I like it. Service was a little slow during our visit, but having good company definitely made it easier to overlook. The Sunday we went was also pretty quiet. I was hoping for more of that brunch-party vibe but maybe we just caught them on a slower day. Overall, a nice brunch spot with a great atmosphere, good food, music, and plenty of potential for a lively Sunday experience. I'd definitely come back to see it on a busier brunch day!

It's beautifully decorated and has a dark and moody vibe, especially around the bar. The drink I had was a lemon drop made with lavender. I'd never had that twist before so I was curious. It was suggested by our waitress. It was good but not great and my husband's old fashioned was disappointingly lightweight. Our food was okay, not great. It was lacking flavor especially the greens. The dish I would recommend however, would be the Collard dip appetizer. It was the best part.

At first she said they changed the menu they used to serve larger wings and now it is the smaller wings. I ordered 6 green gawd and 6 southern fried, and a side of fries... they charge for ranch! The ranch doesn't really taste like ranch I didn't like it at all The southern fried wings looked large to me... I thought they do not serve those anymore, they were definitely refried I didn't even finish them. I kind of enjoyed the green gawd ones. Still overwhelming flavor. This place is definitely not my cup of tea
