We had a wonderful meal here . A small Spot just under the highway overpass. They do not accept reservations so you have to wait for tables. We had a large party of nine and we waited about ten minutes that was great timing. The restaurant offers a full bar with some crafted cocktails. We stated off with some Crispy onion rings which were a perfect start fresh and hot perfectly coated deliciousness. We all ordered meals including steak and shrimp cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly paired with loaded mashed which was enough for two. Two of us opted for the chicken fried steak. Seasoned and fried to a crisp golden with white gravy and a large heap of skin on mashed that were creamy and delicious. One fried shrimp platter hot and good. One fried catfish which was also prepared perfectly paired with cocktail sauce but they added on the tartar sauce. One kid had sirloin and mashed and she finished the entire steak. One chicken fried chicken which was also good. The portion sizes are generous , hot and fresh. We paired our meal with a few bar cocktails including old fashioned , martini , and margarine tossed in a few beers and we had a time. We weren't rush or slow to get service. All in all we enjoyed the meal , the vibe is good. When weather cooperates they have some outdoor seating options as well. Try it for yourself ! This was my first time at Josephine Street after always wanting to come ever since I was a kid. First off everyone who works here was very friendly and kind and we immediately were given a QR code to validate our parking. For food my husband and I got the Sauce trio (I'm pregnant and dips have been really important to me lol) and the two salsas and queso were delicious! Also it came out super quick. For entrees my husband got the Chicken Fried Steak with loaded mashed potatoes and I ordered the fried gulf shrimp with fries. My husband really enjoyed his entree and commented it was probably the best Chicken fried steak he's had in town. My food was good too but since I've never been here I didn't realize their fries were potato wedges? Super thick, kinda moist, and just wasn't what I pictured when I ordered fries. 3.5 stars. I have passed this restaurant so many times. Since it's restaurant week I decided to try their menu. I was not expecting it to be so packed when I arrived. They sure can pack people in that small restaurant. Even though it was packed the staff was turning the tables quickly. After getting a seat, I ordered from the restaurant week menu. I got the onion rings, cajun chicken pasta, and key lime cheesecake. I also ordered the creamy spinach salad because i had heard about it. The onion rings were very crispy with some sort of combo breading with like cornmeal and flour. The spinach salad was pretty good. It was definitely dressed almost over dressed for me. The cajun pasta was introduced specifically for restaurant week as I found out from the staff after I ordered it. The gorgonzola sauce was good but if you are going to have a rich pasta dish you have to have something to cut the richness like chili flakes or parmesan cheese. My waiter said they had neither and I was disappointed about that. The cajun chicken breast was a little overdone but seasoned well. Also, the dish description stated there was spinach in with the pasta but none was present. When it was dessert time I was full so I got the key lime cheesecake to go. My mom promptly devoured it when I got home. They do validate parking so make sure you do that before you leave. The restaurant is very down home on the inside and they staff was friendly. I would say this place has limited vegetation options so just be aware of that. I don't normally tell people about any restrictions I have. I ordered a spinach salad and some "fries" with an iced tea. The salad was amazing. I would order that again. I'm not used to chip style fries but they were fresh. Have not been there in a while and was celebrating with my wife. We split a wilted salad. I had the sirloin sandwich (always good and messy!) my wife had the queso chopped steak and regular fries. Good stuff!! No survivors! Service was fast and friendly and we got there early on a Tuesday so it was not crowded. That building has a tree growing through it and thats always been cool. We visited Josephine Street on the Saturday after Thanksgiving for lunch. No wait and we got a table outside because the weather was great! The umbrellas helped to provide shade when the clouds rolled away. Our server was very attentive; we definitely had her running back and forth with the drinks! We started with the spinach & artichoke dip, which was absolutely delicious! I got the 7 oz steak and shrimp. I ordered my steak to be cooked medium and although it came out medium well (more well on half of it) it was tender and juicy. I loved the chimichurri that came with it. The 3 blackened shrimp were cooked well and I got cocktail, tartar, and lemons to go with them. My boyfriend got a burger and he asked his meat to be medium rare and it came out VERY well done, so he was disappointed, but hungry and ate it all anyway. I docked a star, because we both got beef that was more than slightly overcooked from what we ordered. We didn't ask for anything, but they did address it by comping the appetizer. The cook needs further training in this area, especially since steaks are such a large part of their menu. I dislike that the Pearl has monetized all the parking, but some of the nearby restaurants will validate your parking, so it will be free if you're dining. This is normally one of our favorite restaurants. We went in there the other day the food was lousy. The service was awful. We had to ask our waitress about our food. She ran back there and you could tell that either the cooks had lost it or she didn't put it in. They rushed the steaks and they were just terrible. The manager came around and asked if everything was OK and I told her what it happened and she have hardly told me she would give me a dessert for my troubles. But she never came around to do that. Josephine St. is one of the very few restaurants still standing in the Pearl Brewery neighborhood along with Sam's Burger Joint just across 281 before the gentrification occurred in the 2010s. Yes it's been around since the area was crawling with junkies, bums and petty criminals which kinda gave the area a little sense of danger that locals and tourists not only feared but respected not unlike New Orleans pre- Katrina or NYC before Rudy Giuliani became mayor. The only things I've tried is their steak, homemade onion rings and one of my favorite sandwiches, their grilled chicken which rivals anything I've had from Wendy's, Whataburger or Chick Fil-a. Last time I dined here my waitress had a newbie shadowing her for a little on the job training. I wish the newbie had shadowed her the whole time just to see examples of what not to do. As soon as the waitress brought my food to my table I had to ask her twice to bring me hot sauce for the rings. She just looked at me confused like I was speaking Russian when I asked for hot sauce the first time so I had to repeat myself. The total came out to around $20. It may seem a little pricey but it was worth it when you consider the size of the sandwich and how good it was. read more

Off the bat it seems like a great place for locals and it's near the Pearl so thats really convenient . The service was the best part. Staff were very attentive, polite, and friendly. Sarah was our waitress and was very friendly and could answer all of our questions, fulfilling our curiosity about the old place. The food in my opinion was just alright but it was good. So, we got this recommendation from a local first due to their steaks then second becuz they also provide a bus to the Spurs games for eating with them. So we get there around 5pm. We are asked if we are joining the bus. We said yes, if we are on time. They said absolutely. We sat down, service was a bit slow, but they came to the table and got our drink orders by 515 and ask if we are ready to order. (We are told the bus leaves at 615) i said, are u sure we will have time to order and eat and go. Again, they say ABSOLUTELY. Time goes by and we need another drink......when she comes with the drink, I mention I'm getting worried and ask what's the ETA.on the food. She says she will check. Let me say, the waitress was very nice and tried. But at about 10 min til departure the food is still not here. She said she will talk to her manager. Not to draw out the whole interaction explaining how I basically just paid $42 for a bus ticket, the manager made it right. She was not rude, she was just disheveled from the busy evening. And I appreciated it. My takeaway and opinionated advice would be to maybe change the requirement of an entree that takes time to a dollar amount required to obtain a ticket. So I could have ordered drinks and appetizers that would have actually resulted in more money spent and would have had a positive experience. Another is to have a cutoff time for the bus as well. They know their speed, the patrons don't. Other than that, everyone was kind and tried and just got slammed and couldn't budge on the requirement of an entree that must be ordered that caused the issues. It's a pretty cool experience! The dip was also very good - some type of jalapeño ranch with a hint of lime. I had the catfish with onion rings and coleslaw. The catfish was a generous portion and is fried in cornmeal breading. It was good. The coleslaw is mostly vinegar based with a hint of mayonnaise - it was good as well. My wife had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. All were good and prepared as they should be. The potatoes themselves were bland, but the gravy helped them out. We shared a peach cobbler for dessert. The cobbler has a cinnamon flavor and oats for the cobbler - different but a good taste. The food was good - nothing to write home about; nothing so good it would make me absolutely want to come back - but it was all good. When we got our check, I asked if they offer a military discount and our server said they do. She said she needed to get a new check because the manager needs to approve it. After waiting for 15 minutes, we finally told her to forget the discount. She apologized and said nobody could find the manager - okaaayyy - that's a BIG issue if nobody can find the manager?! Then I discovered my parking ticket either was not properly validated by the server or so I contacted Metropolis who runs the restaurant parking lot they couldn't find my license plate number. Already familiar with the menu, I ordered the fried catfish plate w/the house fries on the side. My order came out fairly quickly and it smelled great. The fish was fried a golden brown and was crunchy on the outside and moist/flaky on the inside. The batter itself is well season and brought the flavor. The house cocktail and tartar sauce are also really tasty and add another flavor profile. The house fries were soft and moist and didn't last long.
