Came here looking for a decent brunch spot in the harbor springs area and came across this spot. It's a small establishment but very rustic and old school look that gave some really good vibes. I had the special of the day which was the beef brisket hash and it was excellent. They have a vast variety of bakery options as well. Oh man where do i start with this place! First of all I'd love to give them a negative review, service here was beyond rude! Never in my life did I feel like I wanted to get up and leave. So let's just start with the hidden fees and/or other surprises we had here, 1. There is a $5 fee for splitting your meal with your husband, so pretty much for them putting your food onto 2 plates instead of one. 2. If you don't order anything you aren't allowed to speak to the waitress, plain and simple rule, but I wasn't aware of it. 3. Their pastries are just sitting out and flies are all over them, yet they'll charge you an arm and a leg for a apple tart, either way if you by any chance get up to see the selection they got, you WILL be scolded for. So here we go, party of 6, I was at the farmers farmer that morning and had a crepe there with coffee, so I was not hungry whatsoever, BUT I thought I'll get something sweet and share it with my husband, like the toast they have on the menu or pancakes. No pancakes on the menu anymore, but the French toast with the berry compote was still on the menu, so that looked good and that's what my husband ordered for us to both kind of share. When our server took our orders, I just told him I'm not ordering anything, I'll just probably pick at my husbands plate, his response was "so you're not eating!" He didn't ask, he just made his statement. Okay cool moving on. He proceeded to take everyones orders. Food arrives, and my husbands "stuffed French toast with the berry compote" magically turned into a baked Amish looking apple cake with some sliced apple compote on top.... We were like okay...it's fine I guess, my husband give it a try and it was pretty much bread with apples, no taste to it at all, and for an insane amount of money of course, it's Harbor Springs after all. So of course we called Taylor over to let him know, and here is where I messed up and spoke up, even though I didn't order anything, because remember their rules? You're not allowed to speak if you don't order. His respond to us saying that's not what the menu describes the French toast to be and we don't like this apple thing was " Umm I though you weren't eating..." like what in the world? That's not even what the issue is, the issue was we ordered pizza but got a burger! Two completely different things, and you didn't even have the courtesy to tell us that you in fact don't even have the French toast available! Long story short, stay away from this dirty, dingy, rude, unprofessional, overpriced establishment! Like other reviewers said, go to Petosky for breakfast, it's only a 15 minute drive! read more

The menu is amazing but I ordered the same dish twice in two weeks because it's addictively delicious. OMG Hash (beef brisket, potatoes, peppers, onions, eggs, some sort of bewitching secret sauce, toast) is accurately named because O.M.G. My dining partner, like me, planned to try something new on our second visit, but was again lured in by the Son of the Biscuit (ham, cheddar, Dijon aioli on a buttermilk biscuit). Simple ingredients but fresh, perfectly prepared and seasoned. It's not a budget breakfast (our meals were $24 and $17, which is typical for the menu) but it's worth every penny. We didn't get dessert but the baked goods are adorable works of art (follow the restaurant/boutiquerie on Instagram for proof), the service was lovely, and the vibe is charming and cozy. After a long weekend up north and after a suggestion from a good friend of my girlfriends we ended up at the Small Batch. Very cozy and inviting environment. The staff was very welcoming. Took the suggestion of her leaving patron on what to grab for brunch. The lobster omelette was amazing the best I've ever had. The potatoes were fantastic. They made a mistake in the kitchen and gave us a couple of fried cinnamon rolls with a fruit compote on top: too much. We usually don't eat that rich but it was so good. My girlfriend had the chicken and waffle sandwich that was just slightly sweet with some very good spicy flavor in there. We will be back for sure when we visit again. Unfortunately they don't have decaf coffee (hubby can only have decaf) so that put the review down a notch right from the start. I however ordered the regular coffee and it was strong and yummy. The French toast was absolutely worth the calories! Got to take some home too . Hubby got the"how we roll" and it's large and delicious. We also packed up some of their goodies for the road. Pricey but the taste in both our meals was spot on and large options. We really could have shared the sandwich but hey your only seldom on vacation. read more

I was very hungry waking up from a nap and my girlfriend & I were looking for somewhere close by that we haven't tried yet. Fortunately for us, we fell upon such an amazing establishment with wonderful food. My first takeout order here I tried The Motherlode which I would also give a five stars!! The Rise & Shine had the perfect brioche bun, the aioli was delicious, & the onions were cooked perfectly. I could eat this over & over again. Everything was homemade. It's a cozy setting but I would recommend sprucing up the outdoor patio area. We looked up and the umbrellas weren't that well kept, there was signs of the outdoor environment... Definitely not what you'd like to see when you're eating directly below. So in general the outdoor area could use some cleaning up. Overall, I thought the food and coffee were tasty but priced high. The owner was EXTREMELY nice! Service was a bit slow in the beginning but that's not their fault, one server for the entire restaurant is difficult to manage. So, I'm currently in MI visiting family, and when traveling to unknown parts, it's hard to figure out decent restaurants to hit up. This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who said their food is delicious, and I surely wasn't disappointed. We were serviced by sweet Taylor who recommended the Gravy Train and Coop De Ville Salad, and I'm so glad I took his recommendation! My mom tried to eat up my salad as well as hers. Tay was super sweet and we had the greatest discussion about fashion and LA. He mentioned how delicious the desserts were, but I had a dress I needed to not look like I ate a whole cake to fit into that night, so I passed. I'll definitely be returning for sweets and conversations before I head back to LALA land. Lol read more

A group of us spent the weekend near here and saw that this place was rated pretty good so we decided to come here for brunch. It was very empty for a Saturday morning (this should have been the first red flag) We asked to be seated outside but they said they couldn't because they couldn't push the tables together. Which was fine. We got seated at a table that had half of the seats were a bench which was extremely difficult to get in or out of. I cant imagine somone of bigger size being able to fit. We all checked out the menu and knew what we wanted. One of the couples ordered a sandwich to split, the other couple only her husband was hungry so she said she wasn't eating so the waiter reached over us to snatch her utensils and plate. (When I say snatch I legit mean snatch with all the attitude possible) then me and my boyfriend ordered our food individually. Finally we got out food, my sandwich was delicious however the couple where only the husband was eating got something completely different than what he ordered. We told the waiter and he said "the menu is seasonal so it changes". The problem with that is that no where on the menu did it say that the stuffed French toast turns into a dry apple cake. So when the wife complained about it he said " well you aren't supposed to be eating" first of all she was talking for her husband who doesn't speak great English and since when are you no able to try somone else's food? Insane. I think my jaw literally dropped when he said this. We were so taken back by this. So the waiter snatches the plate and asked them what they want instead and he ordered a sandwich. They also have pastries just sitting out and there were so many Flys flying around I could not imagine ordering it! Finally when we got the bill one of the couples were charged a split meal fee. Which would have been nice to know. I definitely feel like this place is wayyy over priced for what it is. Overall DONT NO VISIT THIS PLACE unless you enjoy terrible service! What's the point of having the same thing over and over? Rotating the menu with new ideas keeps me going back. THE PLACE IS SO F***ing CUTE! It's so unique that each guest chair is it's own design. Glasses and mugs are not in unison. I mean the creamer for your coffee comes out of a cows mouth. LOL. I'm sure those get stolen. I think all the artwork are originals from around the world. THE PLACE IS A MOTHER AND SON OPERATION! For those who are still trying to figure out the meaning of hard work let me make this simple. It's hard to make money in a restaurant. Especially when we are still in a pandemic. Shipping issues, labor shortages, and weather events are big contributors that effect prices for large suppliers. Like eggs. McDonald's prices have gone up more than 8% in just 7 months and like them and other fast food joints prices will continue to increase as the holidays approach. First impressions of this place was Wow this is small. Our server today was Taylor and he asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We chose outside and were disappointed right away. There were about 15 bugs crawling on our table about the size of a nickel each bug. We moved seats on our own and told Taylor, but Taylor had no response to our complaint. About 5 minutes later Taylor seated a family of 6 at that same table without mentioning the bugs. When we ordered we asked if we could change anything on the menu like for example take the berry off of the French toast and Taylor replied with "no, we only offer what is on our menu. No off menu items. And our menu changes completely every 6 weeks". This right away was a huge turn off. I ordered the Mon Chou Chou and was greatly disappointed with the quality based on the price. The looks of this dish were great but the taste was no better than a Coney Island. At most I would pay $10 for this dish. Instead I paid $19.08 after tax. For ORANGE JUICE WE PAID $8 and the glass was smaller than my hand. Taylor was not a great waiter in my opinion and while we were seated I read other reviews here and all I read was how the food was over priced, mediocre, and the waiter wasn't the most polite. All lived up to expectations. 7 customers walked in and left while we were seated. And keep in mind there were 8 tables completely open. In every bad review Taylor would reply with an "apology" but really it's just Taylor giving excuses to his bad attitude and menu. At the end of day this meal with 1 coffee, 1 orange juice, and 3 dishes for breakfast was $72. It outrageously overpriced. GO TO PETOSKY FOR BREAKFAST. read more

The lemon and blueberry pancake was also delicious. Super thin with lots of fresh blueberries. Sitting outside was our goal but not on the picnic table in the parking lot. That was uncomfortable when cars were coming and going and we kept hopeful we weren't going to get bumped. They were busy so in lieu of a long wait, we took the picnic table. It was disappointing because the other businesses I worked with this week were very responsive Just adding to my previous review after seeing the manager's response.... I sympathize with a small business during this time and having less help/higher demand. I emailed regarding ordering the cake well over a week before the time I needed it to try and accommodate this. First let me start by saying that the food is UNBELIEVABLE! This restaurant is so cute and when you walk in it's like you've been transported to a different time. The definition of cute. They have the sweets set up on display when you walk in and the aroma coming from the kitchen hits you right away, and it makes picking something incredibly difficult! The menu is so unique and they have cute names for everything! When the food came out I was in awe of the presentation and even more so with the flavors! I got the Southern Benny, and let me tell you it was art. Also, the potatoes had little Peruvian peppers called "sweetie drops" (yes I asked what they were) and they are amazing! I ordered a holiday office lunch for husband's staff. We picked up boxes , which were substantial. All hot food came right from oven, wrapped well. We ordered food for 15 people. Fried chicken, their famous Mac n cheese, a lovely green salad with haricot ver & roasted brussel sprouts (maple dressing). She included vegetarian dressing, mashed potatoes , Biscuits & gravy. All delicious! The show stopper was the Peppermint Choc Cheescake. Wow! It is to die for: light, creamy, delicate flavoring, thick chic cookie crust, 10"... Yes! We just had breakfast this morning. Pricey but definitely worth it. The food was outstanding. The service was impeccable. The ambiance was charming. The best meal I have ever had in the Harbor Springs area. We will be back! We had the omelette du jour, with caramelized onions, brandied mushrooms, bacon and white cheddar cheese. I was a little hesitant about the flavor of the brandied mushrooms competing with the other flavors, but my worries evaporated with the first bite. It was delicious. The "home fries" potatoes were just perfectly crispy. The marble swirled rye with caraway was top notch. The fresh jam was a revelation.
