This is a vegetarian restaurant with vegan options available and it great if you want an elevated dinner! It's perfect for a fancy date night or a nice get together with friends. I went with a medium sized group and so we basically tried everything on the menu and I have no complaints. Everything was delicious and I love that they use veggies in different ways. The lion's mane cake really stood out to me, it tasted just like a crab cake. I give it 4 stars, because service was just ok to me. Food came out fairly quickly, but they didn't seem very prepared on what was on the menu and I felt rushed when they started bussing & trying to clear plates from the table before we were finished.
Fantastic food for Vegan and Gluten free. The bar is full and wonderful. The waitstaff was great, attentive, and knowledgeable. The restaurant was very cute and intimate. We had a large party with lots of apps, drinks, and entrees. We were well taken care of and enjoyed everything! The fried pickles and Brussel sprouts app were the best, the curry was a favorite for dinner, and the brownie was top notch for dessert. The whiskey bar did not disappoint. Try a paper plane!
We had a late night Valentine's Day dinner at Small Batch. We were greeted and seated within a couple minutes upon arrival for our reservation, but were warned that our food could take up to 45 minutes as the kitchen was backed up. This was initially not a problem as our drinks came immediately and our appetizers followed about 15-20 minutes after. We ordered the Fritas y Migas and the Carrot Ginger Bisque to start. The depth and flavors of the Fritas y Migas was a pleasant surprise and ended up being our favorite dish of the night. While the carrot ginger bisque had good flavor, it was completely cold by the time it was served but things like that happen and we still enjoyed the dish. While Valentine's day is a busy day and we understand the kitchen can be backed up, we waited for over an hour and a half to be served our mains, only to be extremely disappointed. The cavatapi references szechuan chili oil which is known to be a Chinese numbing spice but if it was included, it could not be tasted and was kind of plain/didn't meet expectations. The only flavor profile was savory. The braised tofu is really what put a damper as it is described to have notes of caramel, gochugaru and asian pear but ended up being three slices of firm tofu soaking in what can only be described as soy sauce, making the dish super salty and one note. Disappointing to say the least as tofu can be used in so many complex ways and was especially disappointing for the price point of the dish. After we were done eating, the restaurant had cleared out as it was 10:45 pm and the restaurant closed at 11 pm. There were only 3 other couples remaining in the restaurant but we still had to seek someone out to request boxes and our check as there was nobody attending to us for a long time. I've dined at Small Batch before and had good experiences in the past but this was just not one of those times. I'll likely only stick to drinks and apps in the future, skip the mains.
Well, it looks like I've dined here before, but didn't give a review. But the pictures look like it was amaaazing! This time around, the food was VERY good. I went with the Red Thai Curry, which was DELICIOUS, but came to the table almost cold. Two other people at the table ordered it too, and sent theirs back requesting that it be warmed up. That was a mistake on their part, because the kitchen chose to remake it instead of just warming it up. Everyone had completely finished their meals before theirs were brought back out. Visually, the restaurant seems very classy, but some folks had to keep their coats on the whole evening because of how cold it was. NOT classy! The bathroom was out of order, so one had to go outside to an adjoining building to use the restroom. The service was VERY slow, and there weren't that many other people in the restaurant. For the prices asked, this was a real disappointment.
We stopped in for a quick drink in between other stops. Love, love the building and the atmosphere. We sat outside, as it was a gorgeous evening. Our server was terrific, loved his humor (and honesty!). The food menu is all vegetarian, which isn't our thing, so we'll likely never hang out here for a meal, but the drinks are outstanding. Sometimes craft cocktail places go high on prices and low on alcohol content (if I'm paying $13-$15 for a cocktail, I at least want to taste the alcohol), but that didn't seem to be the case here. We were very pleased with balance of flavor with a generous alcohol pour in the cocktails. The price point is that of craft cocktails, but nothing crazy. While I can't speak for the food, we do recommend Small Batch for a nice cocktail.
Ratings order: 1. Ambiance; 2. Food; and 3. Service. The restaurant is located in a gentrified section of St. Louis. The entryway is welcoming and the dining area is bright and charming. The folks at the front were a little confused, but we were told that someone was training ( very understanding, didn't realize the trainee was also our server) What seemed like an eternity ( maybe because I was hungry, but they also forgot about us) someone came by our table and asked has anyone helped you guys. Minutes after that initial inquiry, another person stopped by and said our server would be by, next person was the trainee saying that he didn't realize that he was going to be helping us. We pushed through this little snafu. The food was delicious. I ordered the jambalaya! I wanted another level of spiciness, so I asked for hot sauce. We were told that they didn't have hot sauce at the restaurant ( I hope I didn't offend the chef). I would recommend, having a few bottles of hot sauce for us spicy lovers. The cornbread was disappointing. It was hard, and grainy. (Applesauce anyone, adds moisture to vegan baked goods). Oh, I almost forgot, the fries were excellent! Man, the best loaded fries. I have been avoiding jackfruit, after all few misses, but this restaurant restored my interest in this meat substitute. Well seasoned and the sauce was just right. Desert was a disappointing. Got the bread pudding. The presentation was appealing. The first bite was disappointing. The berry sauce was all wrong. Too many seeds, the acidity was definitely a turnoff. So, I attempted to remove the sauce and dug into the remainder of the dessert. Well, someone forgot to completely bake the dessert. The outside was warm, but the middle was ice cold. Avoid the bread pudding. Everyone enjoyed our cocktails. I would definitely recommend experimenting with their cocktail menu. I did notice that some drinks included honey. Heads up to us vegan who don't consume honey. Well, a bit of everything here. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. Ask for a substitute for the cornbread and stay the (;:$@ away from the bread pudding.
Great vibes, we went for Valentines dinner and it wasn't crowded. Appetizers were great, we loved the Brussels and bruschetta plates! Pasta was good, nothing to rave about. Overall great service and loved the cocktail and appetizers!
Stopped in for a night cap after catching a comedy show across the street. What a cool space! Dining areas had beautiful place settings, there was balcony seating also. We sat at the bar, was welcomed right away and offered food. Bartender was so friendly and helpful with the menu. Poured great drinks also. This sits on the corner and has really good curb appeal.
Came back for the food and I'm just going to say, didn't disappoint. We made a reservation for my birthday and sat on the balcony, it was so intimate and perfect for the occasion! Service was quick, drinks were great, food was phenomenal (even for my meat eating fiancé!).
Love visiting small batch for all events bout or small. Love the cocktail menu and the food is always delicious! The staff is super friendly and can't wait to go back! Try it for yourself you won't even realize it's healthy!
Came with my hubby to celebrate 1 week of following vegetarian diet. Ive seen this restaurant before but i found to be a good occasion to celebrate a successful week of no surrender. The restaurant is quiet cool, elegant has vibe of take be back to old days in a modern pattern. Waiters are respectful and pleasant. Braised Escarole: it was light appetizer of braised potatoes, pepper ... flavored with cashew Green Fried Rice: rice was well cooked, right portion, filling Lion's Mane: its really good, i would describe it as "Star Plate" , mushroom cake tasted really good We enjoyed it , it is a soothing way to end Sunday night
It's the second time I've been here and I'm still not impressed with the drinks, maybe because I keep trying to order cocktails and their thing is the huge selection of Scotch, Bourbon, etc. On the table we had the Hum For Your Buzz which I'm sad to say but it is probably the worst drink I've ever had (that was the opinion of the 5 of us on the table, it was just really bad, I'm sorry), we just couldn't drink that (maybe there's people out there who could like it (?), not us) and the Seelbach was pretty bad but not that bad. I do want to mention they gave us another cocktail and we were not charged for it so that's appreciated. I had the Garden something which was really refreshing and light, perfect for a hot day. We ordered all the appetizers to share except the salad because we had the Summer Grain Salad which was the best thing we tried, I could totally have that with the garden drink and it would be a nice summer meal but the rest of the item just very average, the flavors (in my opinion) were pretty bland or really spicy, not well balanced . The poutine was fine, but I mean that's fries. The service was good, everyone nice and the place is really cool. The display of bottles at the bar is impressive. Maybe stay away from those drinks, stick to flights and straight up drinks and this will be a good place.
Thoroughly enjoyed myself! Posh and upscale atmosphere. The staff were all great and helpful. I'm not really a whisky drinker, but our lovely server provided an enjoyable recommendation (Ruby & Huck! A sweeter option). As an appetizer, I had the plantains which were pretty tasty; and for dinner, I had the Green Fried Rice which was light, yet filling! Will definitely plan another visit. The Fritas y Migas looked tasty.

Classy place to have a meal with a date or with family. My family got the rigatoni, green fried rice, and the lion's mane. I especially like the lion's mane, though it had I think some minced orange rind on it that was sometimes an overpowering flavor. We also got brussels sprouts as an appetizer, and it was phenomenal. Perfectly roasted. More generally, I love that this is a very vegan-friendly restaurant. Will definitely come back here again! read more

Came here for dinner. Finding street parking was easy. Stylish interior and we were seated quickly. Drinks: mostly whisky based with beer and wine selections. We ordered 4 different cocktails and each was delicious! Food: everything on the menu is vegetarian, so if you are a vegetarian - you're in luck! We tried the Rangoon , poutine, fufu, and rigatoni. The fufu was my favorite - super flavorful. Rangoon and poutine small plates were good. Only disappointing dish was the rigatoni - a bit bland and cold. Service - service was excellent! Overall would definitely return here to try out the rest of the menu! Pricing is fair. read more

Y'all, this is one of the last places I dined at before finding out I had a gluten intolerance and every bite was dreamy and worth it. Eats: Al Forno, smoked mushroom, red onion, spinach, vegan cream cheese paired with a whiskey was the perfect way to a long day at work. This entree was incredible. It brought me so many flavors. The pasta was cooked to perfection and so were the mushrooms. S'more brownie paired with Balvenie was a dream come true. If you are a basic girl and s'more, like me this will be the perfect decadent dessert for you. Think of that ooey gooey marshmallow melting in your mouth along with the crumbly Graham cracker and a decadent chocolate brownie - - it was perfection. I can really get behind a restaurant that pairs their desserts with whiskey. If that's not enough reason for you to come to Small Batch, I don't know what will make you come here. We were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday today and I thought this would be a perfect spot to end the day! We had never been there before but the pictures of the food on the website looked great and the whiskey flights sounded so fun and right up my boyfriends' ally so I made a 7:30 reso! When we arrived, the ambiance was super cool and eye catching. I will say that it was really chilly in there, in my personal opinion, so I would bring a light jacket if you decide to go. There was not a host at the hoststand but we were quickly greeted by the bartender! She was really sweet (wearing overalls)! We arrived and sat down at 7:33 (admittedly a few mins late for our reso because of prior plans). It took our server almost 10 mins to greet us at the table. The table in-front of us had been trying to flag her down from the moment we sat down until right before we were helped. Our servers name was Laura G. She had a 3-4 table section. She made us feel very uncomfortable and honestly, ruined our experience there. From the get go, she was very unfriendly and off-putting. When she came to the table, my boyfriend said "Hey how's it going!!" She literally said nothing...it was so awkward and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the pictures on the website were outdated and were no longer on the current menu. We were bummed because we were excited about the food advertised. We asked for recommendations and she really didn't have much to say...which was also awkward as I asked several questions about the menu to see what was popular. We went ahead and ordered the Rickhouse whiskey flight and the Poutine app! They arrived about 10ish mins later by another waiter and I have to say, they were FABULOUS! We were very happy with the food. The service just sucked (from our server specifically. The other servers were great and engaging at tables around us. We wished we had them.). At that point we had been there for a while and finished our flight and app and had still not seen our server who was up at the bar hanging out. Ultimately, we felt ignored so we decided we were going to leave and grab a pizza. When she finally came back to ask us if we'd like to order anything else, we just asked for the check. She quickly ran to get it (so fast) and brought it back to us....I was super aggravated with how quickly she was when we decided to leave. Felt like she just wanted us out so we left. As I was sitting in the car apologizing to my boyfriend about the experience we just had, we saw Laura G walk out and sit outside the building to smoke and check her phone. Not sure if she had a bad day or not, but it just sucks that her negativity rubbed off on our night. Our night was ruined. I gave it 2 stars for the food and ambiance, but knocked off stars for the service by Laura and old pics on website. I would appreciate someone reaching out to me about this. I really wanted to like this place since a few of my friends seemed to quite enjoy it. However, it ended up being just ok. I came for dinner with a few friends on a Friday night after an anatomy practical. One of them is a vegan, so it was was an easy choice. Food: pretty good and well-priced. I got a dish that was an Ethiopian beet salad and bread. It was quite tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. The bread was yummy pretty delicious though! Food: 3/5 good, but more ordinary than anything. The beet salad was quite yummy, yet tiny. Ambiance: 5/5 I absolutely loved it inside the restaurant! The lights were quite dim, and I enjoyed the privacy of the place. I could see everyone which whom I came to have dinner while being separated from everyone else. Drinks: 2/5 This was the biggest letdown of the night. The drinks were very mediocre. I got two that had 'devil' in the name, and they were rather poor-tasting. Way less than I'd expect from a place like Small Batch! read more
Cute, yummy, veggie spot! Upscale American cuisine, but also generally accessible in terms of price and atmosphere. Small batch has a range of food options, and even put an American spin on a few Asian and African dishes. Not to mention they are also known for having an even larger selection of whiskey, so they're cocktails are very delicious. I have yet to have a bad item there, so feel confident that the food overall is of good quality. They even gave us a little pre-appetizer for free, which must be a new thing since the last time I went. The atmosphere is warm and spacious. It is a fun split level design, where you can see the bottom floor from the top. We have never had to wait long to sit, but it is usually full. The service was great too! This restaurant is in the regular STL rotation, so will be back! read more
The service here was excellent. Both the drinks and dinner came out very quickly. The hostess and waitstaff were all very personable. They had the perfect balance of checking in on us/ shooting the breeze and giving us space to chat amongst ourselves. The pasta was super flavorful. I personally wasn't a fan of the seitan in the pasta. The taste seemed off and it was a bit too soft for my liking but my husband maxed it! All in all I would recommend this place and come back again should we find ourselves back in St Louis. read more

I love the cozy feel that SB expertly provides. While the food is vegetarian it is so superbly done that carnivores will also be impressed. I had the tofu Rangoon and the filling/sauces were delicious. A friend had the fried cauliflower and it looked amazing! The bar provides an intimate conversation space and the cocktails are painstakingly crafted. Try the house Manhattan, it will not disappoint. The black and white decor/photos really give a nice tough of class without making it feel pretentious or stiff and the lighting inside and out lends to the ambiance. They have a late night menu if you need a bite at the end of the evening. On my favorites list for sure!! read more
Tried out this spot on a friend's recommendation. My family came for Sunday brunch, and quite enjoyed our pancakes, breakfast tacos, and breakfast burrito. This happens to be a vegetarian/vegan joint, but the only "unusual" meat substitute we had was mushroom bacon. The burrito and tacos were well prepared, with fluffy eggs and good flavorings. My pancakes came with an intense blueberry compote and maple syrup on the side. All was delicious. The burrito and tacos included mushroom bacon as part of the filling, and it worked pretty well that way. I also got a side of mushroom bacon. It was basically salty/cured mushrooms that had been crispy fried. Not bad for what it was, but it also wasn't bacon. By itself, the flavor is a bit too salty and dry. It's impossible to find a great vegan/vegetarian cocktail bar anywhere. The STL has done the impossible! This is a great destination eatery located in an historical neighborhood in STL. The bartenders are amazing and cocktails are unique. Recommend sitting at the bar to avoid the whole reservation thing....front of house doesn't yet understand how to run reservations to avoid having empty tables early nor to avoid sitting everyone at same time, resulting in bar/kitchen getting slammed. read more

Fantastic Fine Dining Date Night Spot! This place is quite fancy and romantic. They had nice ambient lighting and an upstairs seating area. The food was absolutely delicious and most of the menu is vegan (only 2 dishes had cheese). My date and I split the Lion's Mane fare, Brussels Sprouts small fare, and a Sundae. The whole experience was so wonderful. The only con is the portion sizes are quite small! I would still highly recommend though. It's the perfect place to go on a date. read more

If food is what you're looking for Small Batch won't knock your socks off however if you're looking for cocktails & snacks this is your place. Owned by the same proprietors as Bailey's Chocolate Bar, Bailey's Range, Rooster, Wheelhouse, Bridge Tap House, so I expected this spot to pretty much knock my socks off. The decor was gorgeous, Gideon's service was pleasant however the Rangoon and House Salad left me unimpressed. The Rangoon tasted old, as in not freshly prepared. They were luke warm and the wonton was tough. I did enjoy my House Salad the half portion went a long way. Goat cheese anything is a selling point for me. the vinaigrette also complimented the greens well. I did not care for the strawberries placed on top. They tasted of a soggy, frozen consistency versus fresh and crisp. Maybe I need to give the Batch another try in the future, when they've changed or expanded their vegetarian only menu. I dropped in here for an event and decided I needed to come back for a date later that week! Great place for cocktails and I love finding restaurants that are surprisingly vegetarian. I would highly recommend Small Batch for cocktails and appetizers with friends or a partner. My girlfriend and I both found that the veggies were undercooked for our liking (which is intentional on the part of the kitchen, we just weren't fans). We jokingly call the food al dente. I could happily run through their whisky menu and eat the rangoons to my heart's content for the rest of my life. read more
Went out of our way from a fabulous dinner at Ruth Chris downtown to Small Batch because a friend recommended a neighborhood bar for post drinks with a good server- was NOT the best recommendation. I was so excited when I arrived and so disappointed when I left - check this out!! The positives: 1) beautiful venue 2) server Chelsey was AWESOME 3) drinks were delicious 4) cauliflower bites were awesome! 5) inexpensive !! 4 drinks & appetizer only $71.62 The negatives: 1) closed out the tab and our bill came at 10:53 (see photo) 2) server didn't pick up the tab until 11:09pm (place closes at 11pm) 3) MANAGER comes over literally minutes after 11pm while the our tab is sitting on the table WITH THE CREDIT CARD ON THE TABLE (with the bill) waiting to be processed and reprimands us that the bar "called last call at 10:45 so they could all go home by 11pm" Let's say this - I've been to "many" restaurants in my life and even the weakest ones have always served us if we arrive before the posting closing time - but this is a first where we have been scolded by the manager that need to leave minutes after closing time. #KARMA served - if you want to give this place your hard earned $ a chance - albeit it is NOT expensive - ask for Kelsey - she came out and apologized for the management "process" and promptly processed the credit card. FYI: we promptly called an uber and were in it at 11:15pm on our way... Total tip and why: $20 tip on a 71.62- seems a little HIGH? I tip on service and I am friends with many servers whom I know work hard for living to support their families. They should not be penalized for poor management at their establishment. This was my first time and probably my last. It's hard to recommend a place that sells itself as a restaurant and keep a loyal following with a caveat that if you are there - you BETTER LEAVE BY THE POSTED CLOSING TIME or expect a harsh reminder that the staff wants to go home by the posted closing time. Too many places downtown to go out of your way to be scolded... It will be interesting to see how the business responds IF they respond to our experience. If you are in the St. Louis area - stay more downtown where the foot traffic is better and PLEASE support businesses that understand and respect patrons (at least a little). read more
Oh my good lord this place is wonderful. I have no idea how it took me so long to get to Small Batch, but I know with certainty that I'll be back very soon. I went for dinner a little while back followed by brunch the next weekend, and while both were great, dinner is where this place really shined. I bet their brunch will eventually be as great, as well. As far as drinks go, you really can't go wrong. My favorite with dinner are the Spicy (peppercorn-infused mezcal, reposado tequila, grapefruit bitters, sugar) and the Shrubbly (strawberry-hibiscus shrub, ginger liqueur, Fernet, cava). For brunch, I love the Melon (Pinckney Bend corn whiskey, elderflower, maraschino, red wine float, watermelon). Is your head spinning? Because it should be. There are so many choices and I really don't think you can go wrong. Five stars all around for the drink list. For dinner, we tried a few things... the pickled eggs are 100% what you should start with. One order comes with three different eggs (smoked paprika, mustard & tumeric, basil & tarragon), and it's awesome to share or just to eat on your own, if you're lucky. For my main course, I ordered the Rigatoni, made with tomato-basil pesto, red pepper, roasted tomato, pine nuts, and asiago. I'm pretty sure I've never had more pasta in my life... it was just too good to only have a little. The tacos were also a big hit at our table. Also, just say YES when your server asks if you'd like to end your meal with the whiskey bread pudding. Brunch was good, just not as good as dinner. I enjoyed my omelet, but I think the best dish is the slinger, made with biscuits, two eggs, kale, black pepper gravy, and crimini bacon. The french toast had a strong taste to it that we couldn't pinpoint, but it was just A-OK. That being said, the place is gorgeous and the cocktails are fantastic, so it was still very enjoyable. It was a rainy night, and the globe lights cast just the right glow for sampling splashes of Scotch and enjoying good conversation. It looked like the sort of place you might bump into Benedict Cumberbatch. I wasn't sure I'd really like a vegetarian place, but was pleasantly surprised by just how much I enjoyed the food. We started with some small plates and salads. The GREENS - smoked gouda, pretzel croutons, bourbon cherries, spiced walnuts, maple-blueberry vin - reminded me of salads I've enjoyed at Bailey's Range. The BRUSCHETTA was prepared gluten-free for Therese H., w/ almond-crusted brie, sage, and bourbon apple compote, and was as beautiful as it was tasty. Then, we moved on to larger plates. My CAVATELLI - basil pesto, sundried tomato, spinach, artichoke, red onion, capers, kalamata, feta, white wine, olive oil - was served in a large bowl, and was delicious! Therese H. had a special: RISOTTO - blue cheese, arugula, wild mushrooms - again, prepared gluten-free. We were with another couple, everyone had something different, and we all enjoyed everything very much. My scotch expert friend even taught me how to use the fancy eyedropper thing to put spring water in my glass to open up the aroma and flavors of the whiskey. Somehow, I missed that on my trip to Scotland. I think they just use small pitchers there. read more
Take about the variety of whiskey and liquor options! All types of options from 10 year, 12 year, 14 year from all over the place. The food is all vegetarian options, but for someone who is a big meat eater there's still plenty to eat. They got Brussels, shishito, cauliflower, scallop, rangoon all for small plates. Main plates include curry, al forno, eggplant, pad thai, rigatoni, and falafel! Their deserts include s'more, shortbread and inebriation (chocolate cake)... wow do they all look good! read more

I'm so in love with Small Batch! I tried the "We're not in Kentucky Anymore, Toto" flight. The dark horse was my favorite with 2 drops of water, no ice. So smooth and yummy. The buffalo cauliflower bites are so delicious, I hope this stays on the menu year round. Poutine was also yummy, wonderful and cheesy. The Peruvian Princess cocktail was nice and lemony. read more
