From the moment I made that difficult call and spoke with sweet Sherry (sp?) who was so very helpful, then my comforting talk with Dr. Shea, who was so wonderful and understanding, and above all completely honest with my Stella's overall condition, I couldn't have made this choice without her, I was completely lost and inconsolable. Dr. Shea was my guide in my time of need. When the final day came, Dr. Erica came to our home. She is this beautiful angel, with the most kind and gentle voice. She helped us walk our precious Stella over the Rainbow bridge in the beauty of silence, reverence, and peace, it was so beautiful. Dr. Erica sent us the most amazing sympathy card a few days later that touched my heart deeply. Everything was really great until after the euthanasia. They got us in pretty quick with a rush surcharge and the doctor who came was empathetic and patient as she walked us through everything. She explained that my dog's ashes should be ready in 2 weeks. At 2 weeks, we called them for an update. They said there was a delay. We called them again at 3 weeks. Still not ready. We called again around 3.5 weeks and they said a few more days. At 4 weeks we received an email saying our boy was ready and we went to go pick him up. It was quite stressful calling in over those two weeks of delay to figure out if and when my dog's ashes would be ready. A proactive message from their side would've made the experience a lot better as we needed to keep calling in to figure out what was happening while also grieving. Today we picked up the remains of a beloved cat who lived a happy 19 years, and we really appreciate the sweet touches Honor Pet included in their service. Besides her ashes and certificate of cremation, we have a clipping of our sweetheart's fur in a tiny bottle, along with a candle, a packet of forget-me-nots to plant in her honor, and something I never thought would be wonderful to have, but is--an imprint of her nose on card stock paper. I'd never heard of water cremation (alkaline hydrolysis) until now. The use of water in the cremation process sounds counterintuitive, and so perhaps is the thinking that it's more ecologically responsible. But the research I'm doing on that seems to verify that this is the case. Californians are rightly concerned about water conservation, so not everyone will agree that this is really the way to go en masse here, but in weighing the factors, I felt good about it. The cost compares to standard flame cremation, and in fact, I found out that my cost with Honor Pet was less than a friend recently paid for a deceased pet's standard cremation. The remains can be shipped to you or you can retrieve them at the DTLA facility. Shipping cremated remains mandates certain regulatory fees, and we opted for pick-up. We were greeted by a very welcoming employee in a lovely waiting room. And our wait there was minimal. Be mindful of parking if you go to the facility. Yeah, it's not easy. But sweetness helps. From the first call to schedule an appointment (I emailed and they reached out almost immediately), to the arrival of the vet and his time with us that ended with his departure with my little one tucked in under a blanket in a small basket, to the pickup of my pup's ashes, I was met with empathy and care and respect for the pup. If I could give 10 stars to Honor Pet, I would. We had to make the devastating decision to send our beloved Mishka across the Rainbow Bridge. The most heartbreaking thing pet parents have to do was made easier and just bearable through the assistance of Honor Pet and especially Dr. Scott. I researched in-home euthanasia extensively because we wanted to avoid going into our vet's office and having our hearts broken in a sterile, clinical environment. We wanted to avoid any stress or fear for Mishka who hated car rides and always stressed out over vet visits. After reading about Honor Pet and seeing all the 5-star reviews, I decided that they were the ones to help us through this ordeal. In comparison to others offering similar services, Honor Pet was anything but corporate. Every communication was very personal, compassionate, and caring. No upsell, no pushiness, we were never rushed. Dr. Scott came to our home and gently and peacefully assisted Mishka into eternal sleep. I could not ask for a better ending to our 16 years together. I hope I have a similar option when it is my time to leave the planet. Dr. Scott is the kindest, most patient, compassionate man. His vibe is calm and even our skittish cat went right up to him for attention as well as our other senior (and usually grumpy) dog. That alone says something about Dr. Scott. Afterwards, we took Mishka to the Honor Pet facility in the Arts District of Downtown L.A. (our choice to do so.) Lovely facility, found street parking right across the street, and Roxanne had been alerted to our arrival so prepared one of the peaceful rooms for us to say our final goodbyes.
