We contacted Smart Air Service after a search through the Better Business Bureau. Shane was able to come out to our home same-day. He was upfront about his fees (lower than anyone else we asked -- lower than Jon Moore by 50%!). Once in our home, he put booties over his shoes to protect our carpet. When he installed a brand new motor for us (which we saw come right out of the package), it works great, but makes a strange noise. Shane volunteered to write a guarantee of his work on our bill, and was very clear he'd return anytime to replace that weird motor if we wanted. I'd recommend this company to anyone. His fees are the best, but he definitely beats the other companies on service without a doubt! read more

Over the past couple of years I had Smart Air install 3.5 and a 4 ton units for my 4,000 square foot home; a significant investment. ANY time you are getting work done with complicated projects you will have issues so so I think what we are ultimately looking for is stand up people that will step up to the plate when there are any issues. Generally everything was completed $competitively and professionally but of course there were a couple of issue. Smart Air was diligent in their successful efforts to resolve any issues I had and the owner Shane took it upon himself personally to ensure anything significant was resolved satisfactorily. Installs are installs, some better than others, but what you really want is follow up and service so you aren't left hanging out to dry. My a/c was not cooling well so based on other yelp reviews I tried Smart Air. Everyone was so professional and polite from the guy who answered my after hrs call and scheduled the visit to the technician, Greg who showed up on time. He was able to quickly fix the problem and explain additional services that would be needed without being pushy. Every summer I regret ever having Smart Air do my AC. It is extremely hot in one room and very cold in another. They came and said there was nothing they could do. Then some clips they put on broke within the first year and they charged us to put new ones on. Save yourself the headache and go with someone else. read more

Recently my very old home a/c system started to go out and it was not worth trying to fix or update. I shopped around and received 6 estimates, not just for a new system, but a whole-home energy audit and upgrade, since many areas in my old home needed to be improved upon. Shane's estimate wasn't the cheapest, but he offered the best options, especially when it came to how the new system would be installed. The installation process went well, Chris is very courteous with good attention to detail, but the other guys on the crew didn't make a strong effort to keep debris from falling on my furniture or in my kitchen. A little more prevention would have saved the extra clean up afterwards. Part of the upgrade included new attic insulation and solar screens. The company that handled the insulation was great, but I can't say as much for the guy that made the screens. Twice he didn't call before coming over, when we asked him to, some of the screens don't fit perfectly and now fall out of the window frames, and other screens seem to be falling apart, just a few weeks after installation. This isn't necessarily a reflection on Shane or Smart Air, but if they're going to include other contractors in the project, ideally they have the same standard of quality for service and craftsmanship. So far, with all of the upgrades, I've noticed a huge difference in my house. The inside temperature remains consistent, even if it's hot or cold outside, and the a/c doesn't kick on nearly as often as the old system did. Overall, yes, I would recommend Smart Air for their service and prices. read more

Shane and the Smart Air really know HVAC equipment and are up to date on the latest technologies. These guys have lots of real experience with putting HVAC systems into green homes and that includes the V in HVAC, ventilation. Lots of companies don't, just ask for references. Of course, Smart Air Services, also does lots of basic repairs and standard replacements. But isn't it nice knowing you're working with people who do the tough residential installs too? In addition, Shane and team are straight honest. You won't find them telling you need a new AC when you don't. Or that you need a larger unit than you need, just so they can charge more. Smart Air has been around a long time and they have plenty of work, because of their honest approach. Yet they manage to get it all done, efficiently, reasonably and with top quality. We originally chose Smart Air Service because of our faith in Shane. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of everyone on the team (HVAC techs, office staff). They all really knew what they were doing and we were extremely impressed with their knowledge and service. There is a reason the word *service* is in their name; their service is clearly exemplary! One example: One time this past winter, when it was freezing for several days the heat went out in my 83 year old dad's house. A DIFFERENT major HVAC company had given the HVAC system its winter maintenance only a couple of weeks previously. Furthermore, even though my dad had a maintenance contract with them for five years, the OTHER company couldn't come out that day to look at it! Fast response and GREG was efficient and very nice. He resolved the issue quickly and explained how to keep the problem from recurring. In the past I have dealt with some of Austin's oldest, biggest HVAC companies so I can say that the price I paid smart air was far below what I would've paid the big-name. Had an issue with our condo's AC unit breaking and called Smart Air Austin. Their tech (Greg Thomas) came out within 4 hours. Greg was knowledgable, nice and got the job done. Found the problem with a clogged drainage pipe, but didn't stop there. Through additional testing, he also found and remediated a larger underlying issue of the drain holes not being level. So not only fixed the immediate problem, but also the underlying cause. Can't recommend their services enough, especially since Greg went the extra mile to find the real problems. Very happy --- they recommended what would be the most cost effective solution to my problem (compressor cut out around 105 degrees, for 15 mins at a time.) Could have stuck me for a new compressor but recommended the $101 capacitor instead and it worked like a charm. Right on time too. So pleased. read more

I had Smartair come out after experiencing a musty/moldy smell throughout my home. Jeanie quoted me $125 for a thorough inspection, yet when I explained to the technician what I needed, he reduced the fee to $85. The technician provided me a great explanation of possibly causes and remedies. I had a few additional questions, so I called up Jeanie and she put me in touch with Shane so that he could fully explain the technicians findings. Rather than simply regurgitating his technicians findings, Shane took the extra step to come out to my house and review things with me. I have now used Smart Air twice this year to fix a coil leak in both upstairs and downstairs systems. They were very easy to work with and got my house on their fix schedule very fast. The installer Matt noticed that my coil (upstairs) might be able to be covered under a warranty and in fact did get the coil covered and replaced within 2 days of diagnosing the problem. I woke up this morning and my thermometer on the wall was totally dead. Me, not having the slightest what that could possibly mean, called Austin Energy and had no idea what they were asking me in regards to trouble shooting over the phone. Super frustrated and starting to get pretty warm, I googled AC services in Austin, tried another company who had a perfect rating and they had a recording stating they weren't even accepting new clients. Growing even more frustrated, I then called Smart Air due to their also perfect rating. SO glad I did!! The woman who answered the phone was SO pleasant and quickly scheduled me. She said the technician was even going to be in my area today so she'd add me to his route. Not even 10 min later, Josh, the technician, was at my door because the other appointment was a little delayed and so he decided to knock mine out. I wasn't mad about that at all. He knew exactly what the problem was, got right to work, educated me along the way (much appreciated) and even did a few bonus things to get my AC in even better shape! I have been remiss in writing this review. This past summer, my husband and I hired Smart Air Service and they provided us with phenomenal service!!! We needed to have insulation added to our attic which we knew when we bought our house. Before hiring Smart Air, I called three companies total to compare pricing. By far, Smart Air blew the competition out of water with their professionalism and their quote. They came up with the most comprehensive plan, providing us with a quote to add insulation, weatherization and rebuilding/sealing a return. The quote included rebates from Austin Energy/Texas Gas. Their quote was less and included more work than the other two quotes. One vendor told me that he did not like dealing with the city so he would take $500 off. They were clearly the forerunner with pricing and the extent of the proposed work. The entire process was seamless. All of the staff at Smart Air (Shane, Suzanne, the office manager) were extremely professional and an absolute pleasure to work with. They coordinated the inspection with the city and we got our rebates. Give them a call!!!! read more

I had an air conditioning company come out 3 times to fix my AC but it would only work for a few hours and then no more. I got so frustrated that I looked up on Yelp for reviews of AC companies in South Austin and saw the good reviews for Smart Air. I called them and left a message at 8pm begging someone to come out the next day. Twelve hours later, I was talking to the office lady and thirteen hours later Matt was checking out my AC and had it fixed that day. Matt offered us several options with which to work with Smart Air. Shane quickly came to our rescue when our old unit went out, and he also patiently answered my many questions about the City's energy rebate program. Our first electric bill after replacing our AC was significantly lower even though it covered only a partial month with the new AC. We expect future bills to be even lower now that we have completed several of the other measures that are part of the City's rebate program. (Shane also arranged for this work to be done.) I have had Smart Air come out a couple times now for maintenance and for a heat issue. I just had my ac go out on Labor Day weekend and called for that. They explained the extra "after hours" cost and gave me a breakdown of what it would possibly cost based on what I told them. They said it was probably the capacitor and is one of the most simple repairs. I researched it and replaced it myself. I will call Smart Air first anytime I have an HVAC need. read more

This guys are fantastic, I can't rate them highly enough. I gave them a five star review two years ago when they installed my system originally and now another one after a component failed a couple of nights ago (which was absolutely NOT their fault). My outside unit began switching on and off repeatedly around 1:30am. I called Smart Air the next morning and Matt found time to squeeze me in that same day. Squeeze probably isn't the right word since he spent about two and a half hours working on the system. He discovered a part that needed to be replaced that would have to be tracked down. Chris showed up the very next day with the part and got me up and running again. My review will read like so many others here. My old AC company that I had an annual contract with (Air and Drain Rescue) closed their Austin location and told me they cannot provide service from San Antonio. That is fine by me as my last experience with them was really poor (see my yelp review). Smart Air had done the new install on a few other homes that I was involved with building so I called them out to my own home when one of my units was not cooling. Jeannie was so responsive and had a tech at my house about an hour after I spoke to her. Josh the tech figured it all out in under 30 minutes. It will require some additional parts to be ordered and installed on another call but he did get the unit running and the house cooled down. I enjoyed my interaction with everyone at Smart Air and find their pricing reasonable as well. I hope their excellent customer service and integrity will allow them to grow and prosper as I want to be a long term customer. read more

Using Smart Air Service Co. is definitely the smartest choice you can make for all of your HVAC, insulation, and weatherproofing needs. We recently bought a 1950s house, which had basically no insulation and needed all new ductwork. Smart Air replaced all of our ductwork, built a platform for our furnace, and insulated and weatherized our home. We are now extremely comfortable inside our home no matter what the temperature is outside. I cannot be happier with the service we received from Smart Air. Over the winter, a part in my furnace died so I filed a claim with my home warranty company. They sent someone (not Smart Air) out, they had to order the part and schedule the repair for another day. That day came and went. Basically, this other company flaked on me and I still had to pay the service fee. After a week with no heat, I called Smart Air because they had good Yelp reviews. 24 hours later, it was fixed. They had the part at their warehouse, they guy doing the repair was fast and friendly, and it ran smoothly for the rest of the winter. Good pricing and service. Bad communication. In our initial meet, they mentioned something about how our air intake vent might be too small, but said they would fix it if it were. As they wrapped up the install, I mentioned that the intake was the same, so I guess it didn't need to be larger. After a few phone calls, they actually said it WAS too small, but they couldn't make it larger without charging me an addition fee. I wish it had been addressed better BEFORE the install and I didn't have to remind them about it after. They also do not call to confirm appointments. We made appointments weeks in advance and I wouldn't hear a peep until the morning they showed up at my door step. read more
