When you enroll you need to schedule a "mandatory" training session with the owner of the gym. You are able to call and cancel day of. Seems ridiculous. I thought the mandatory training session was to show you around and show you how to properly use the equipment or to see what physical shape you are in so you don't end up hurting yourself of damaging the equipment. DEFINITELY NOT. He is just going to try to sell you training session and will try to schedule you for another training session, will not take no for an answer and will try to make you "prioritize your fitness" and shame you for not wanting to spend hundred of dollars. The training session was awful and had me doing / lifting more than I could which was compromising my form which later ended up hurting me. I was told the annual fee would not be charged until next year 2022 which is why I joined the gym so I could finish off my other month at my previous gym but I ended up being charged!! AND I was told there was no enrollment fee and my boyfriend was charged an enrollment fee when he signed up. Do yourself a favor and just get a membership at plant fitness or somewhere that is nationwide, has a pool and a sauna for the same 9.99$ a month price. read more

I'd been coming as a guest for a while and finally decided to get my own membership. I was immediately targeted by a very pushy representative who called me at least three times a week to try to sell me the premium $60/month membership instead of the basic $10, the latter of which is all that I wanted. I refused, opted for the basic membership, and signed all the necessary forms. Not too long after, I check my bank account and see that I've been charged for three months worth of the premium membership. I called the gym, who gave me the customer service department's number, who told me to talk to the manager of the branch. I went in to speak with a rep who told me that she would look into it and that the rep who signed me up (who was no longer there) had a history of signing people up for things they didn't ask for. She took my number, told me she would take care of the issue and call me with any updates. A few days later she tells me my membership has been changed to the basic. Great, but where's my $180 you people took? She told me she'd continue to work on it. Never heard from her again. Then went in a third time to resolve the issue and was told after all that that there's nothing they could do. Plenty of great gyms out there with similar membership costs. Think twice about coming here if it's your only option. read more

Is Smart Gym trying to lose members?! Starting August 1st they are stripping away all benefits. One example is that only members and coaches are allowed to use the XGT room. I've been at this gym since the grand opening and I use this room every time I go to the gym, now where am I suppose to stretch and complete half my routine!? There is no room besides the XGT room, since it is a small scale gym. The gym will become even more congested than before without the use of the XGT room!! I am on a student budget, like a majority of the smart gym goers, and cannot afford to upgrade my membership to XGT. These "changes" have caused many members to cancel their contracts and will continue to do so. read more

Decent looking gym but shady business practices. I have been trying to cancel my personal training for months as I moved out of the area and have been unsuccessful at every turn. The personal trainer I signed up with stopped working with Smart Gym and I got no notification. He cancelled one of our scheduled sessions due to an emergency, went out of town and never returned to my knowledge. Today was my second day visiting smart gym. The second I walked through the front door, I was greeted by the girl at the front desk (I think her name was Rena). She was polite and smiling. After finishing my workout and collecting my things I hear some yelling coming from the front area of the gym. As I'm walking towards the front door the manager was being very unprofessional yelling at the girl from the front desk. I overheard "Rena" saying "you had no right going through my personal email." I am in a supervisory position and I would never embarrass or humiliate an employee in front of customers. I will not be returning to Smart Gym because of this unprofessional act of the management. I'm giving three stars for the cleanliness of the gym and equipment. read more

Horrible experience. They wouldn't fax or email my cancellation form because of identity issues. Pretty sure my own name is on my email and you can confirm with phone number DOB, etc. also, as I was signing the cancellation sheet I noticed the guy at the front desk already filled MY form and said I had a "great experience" I remarked it saying it was "poor". I was pretty upset about that. I don't think he should vouch for clients. I wouldn't recommend t his place. There's more gyms closer. read more

EXTREMELY disappointed in their choice to cut out some of the 7pm XGT classes!!! Us members pay a premium for these classes and being a medical professional and having a family/ career like most people- this is the time that I can attend! Absolutely unacceptable. It should not matter if there are 3, 5 or 20 people attending that class it should still remain an option for members because a lot of us signed up under the notion that this class was a solidified time slot. Will our monthly rate be decreased by 60%???Because that's essentially what you are cutting down our class time from 5 days a week to 2 days. Again, unacceptable. With how competitive the market is with other gyms nearby (LA Fitness down the street on 99th and Northern) to personal trainers on every corner, you would think there would have been a better business decision to keep your "customers/ clients" happy- Again, unacceptable! This poor decision needs to be looked into ASAP before multiple clients cancel their membership including myself. The time of year should also be taken into account when judging class sizes. A lot of families have been busy with graduations, their children's summer vacations, family vacations, extreme heat, etc that equate to a lower amount of attendees. I would like to hear directly from a Corporate Manager if this matter is not addressed- we have already begun to take action with having dissatisfied members sign a "petition" to bring back our 7pm class. This gym is extremely clean and the service is amazing! All the workers are kind and extremely helpful. Some examples are Andrea, Noah and Juan, who are always very welcoming. Andrea and Noah work at the front desk and are always ready to greet you with a smile. Juan also occasionally works the front desk but is mainly behind one of the back computers prepared to help you with any questions you may have regarding the amenities on site or your goals. WARNING DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!! I joined Smart Gym in Scottsdale. The gym closed down and now I keep getting charged monthly membership dues. Fortunately my credit card company has refunded these amounts to me, however, I am now getting harassing phone calls from the company that owns Smart Gym. Smart Gym Scottsdale closed its doors without any notice to its customers. And now they are continuing to charge customers. When I called this location, the woman on the phone was extremely rude to me and told me there was nothing she could do, that SHE is not charging me. The gym isn't bad itself the XGTFitness classes are decent not fantastic due to some fluidity issues. But you do leave feeling good. I'm giving poor stars due to staff not being able to answer questions about the heart rate monitors and asking multiple people for help with no prevail. Also I accepted a new position where I will be relocating. I asked to put in my 30 day notice and was told I could not until I was billed. I signed up for the first month for a dollar. I have no issue paying my second month due but the 3rd I have an issue with when I signed a policy stating I had to give 30 days I obviously have and have held up my part of this agreement. But being told I can't give my notice until I am billed is unheard of to me. I move around a lot I'm sure military families come across this often but to be told I can't put my notice in and have to pay for one month plus an additional doesn't make sense to me. Like I said the gyms decent but this customer service could use some real work. If you sell something know what you're selling. If you have me sign and ask for 30 days you can't tell me no, you take my notice and you suck it up. It's your policy not mine and yet you didn't honor your own policy. The worst customer service EVER! I was not advised of an early termination fee for personal training. I tried to cancel personal training in July 2016 and the issue is still ongoing. I have left several messages for a manager/supervisor to call me back and still have not received a callback. Every time I called, managers are NEVER available. They are telling me that I have to pay a $250 early terminate fee and a $20 late fee for stopping a payment. Deceptive practices are not acceptable! I have spoken to Nicole and she advised that a manager would call back within the week and that was 3 weeks ago. Please do not join this gym, unless you REALLY read the small print! read more

I went in to look into signing up and asked about the heart monitors they have and the girl at the desk said she just sells it and doesn't know anything about the product. This review would be a few stars higher if it wasn't for our experience with the personal training. My wife and me moved out of the area this past spring, cancelling the gym membership and personal training, as well as, signing cancellation paperwork before moving. A few months later I started getting calls and texts about paying my personal training. When I called the gym, they said they don't handle the personal training matters and directed me to call a different number. When I called the other number, the guy on the line said my personal training account was "frozen" for three months and I had to pay after that. He said I had to send a certified letter with proof of my new address being 30 miles away from the gym to cancel. He also said he did not see any cancellation paperwork on file. My wife called the gym back and the girl on the phone said that sometimes the staff "loses" the cancellation paperwork. Now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to cancel my personal training membership and not being charged hundreds of dollars for nothing! This is completely ridiculous and unprofessional! The sad part is, before this experience I was thinking of re-joining the gym if one ever opened in my area. read more

Whom It May Concern, I have called several time and left messages and no response. I went in person and signed form to cancel membership. 3 months later and still getting billed. I have filed claim with the bank to put funds back into my account. When I signed up with Smart Gym it was over the phone/text. I was told NO termination fees nor any other fees, whatsoever, and could go month to month. Right away I was charged $39 for maintenance fees. Hence my being upset and terminating. I was also told that sales rep had been let go due to him doing this to others. I can see on Facebook I am not the only one to make this complaint at your Phoenix and Scottsdale gym. I did also post a complaint on SmartGym page, no response of course. You now have this notice. You people best get it right because business like this does not succeed. Joined in Feb 2017. Paid in full annual membership for XGT classes, and gym use and was told I could bring a guest. I am extremely disappointed to find several months later, they have a sign at the desk stating you can only bring a guest on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday due to peak times. I then tried to cancel and learned that no refunds are given on Paid in Full memberships. Great, bait and switch!!! If you join, pay by monthly, that way you can cancel when they decide to change the contract. read more

By far the cleanest and friendliest club I've ever joined! I did the one week trial as I was transitioning out of my then current gym and weighing out my options. The gentleman up front (can't remember his name, sorry!) showed me around the entire gym and all the VIP facilities without feeling pressured to sign up right away. I expressed interest in the membership that came with the XGT access so he walked me in there, introduced me to the coach, and I took a class that same day! I ended up joining and have been attending the 5PM classes with coach Carlos on a regular basis! The classes are fun, high energy, and I appreciate the coach taking the time to correct our form when lifting weights. I also appreciate that after I joined, the guy who signed me up didn't completely ignore me after he got me in but instead makes an effort to greet me every time and give me quick tips and pointers when he sees me out on the floor. If everything stays consistnat, I do not see myself ever leaving this gym. read more

This gym is very clean, one of the main reasons for joining. Very few people ever working out which is a plus that makes you wonder why. The employees are usually friendly with exception to one guy who is very rude! I had a personal trainer that was not qualified to train someone with my health conditions and I ended up having to do physical therapy and still am! I continued to tell him The weights were too heavy but each session I had to remind him. It seems the trainers would rather work with the younger! I signed up for weekly training was over charged by $560.00. Finally had to dispute it with my credit card co. I do not recommend the Peoria Smart Gym if you have any injuries! FYI I am 65, 112 lbs and have been an athlete all my life, including still riding my bike, yoga, tai chi and golf....all regularly! Now I am doing physical therapy trying to get back where I was prior to having a trainer! Just saying and.....when you try to cancel they don't make that easy either! read more

If you are a pre-sale customer and try to cancel your membership -- Beware!!! Been working on this for over two weeks. Paid the first and last month as a pre-sale customer. Cancelled last month and they charged me for this month. On my FOURTH, PERHAPS FIFTH call trying to get my account refunded and have been bounced back and forth between their billing people and the gym. I signed up for a 7 day pass at this location and on my first day when I walked in I said good morning to the woman at the front desk ( her name was Nicole) who was on her phone, and she didn't even look up to say hello to me. I felt awkward and uncomfortable. A little bit later as I was doing my work out I could over hear Nicole speaking to another employee discussing a different employee's personal life! I was appalled at the unprofessionalism I witnessed in just my first visit. Reading through the reviews on here I can see that I am not the only one who has experienced Nicole's unprofessionalism and immaturity. I decided to give Smart Gym the benefit of the doubt and go back a different day in the evening. As soon as I walked in I was welcomed by Ciara with a smile, everyone working was happy and welcoming. I did not see Nicole there on this day. On my third visit, Nicole was at the front desk again, and the demeanor of the gym was completely different than the day before. Everyone working up front was not smiling and didn't seem to want to be there. Once AGAIN when I walked through the doors, Nicole glanced at me, and turned back around. I have never been to this gym before signing up for the seven day pass, and the way Nicole made me feel, so unwanted and so out of place I will not be signing up with this gym, and I will specifically say because of her and her unprofessionalism. The gym is clean, and looks great, the equipment is great, the other employees are great. But Nicole is enough to drive away potential members. read more

HORRIBLE customer service! DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!!!! They are sweet as pie...until you want to cancel. When I signed up with this Travis at Smart Gym we were specifically told that if it did not work out all we needed to do was come in, sign the cancellation form and that was it. We asked if there were any fees etc which he responded "no, just come in sign the form, you just can't do it over the phone." My work hours changed so I can no longer work out during my lunch and I live too far away so the gym membership simply doesn't work for me anymore. When I went into the gym I said I needed to cancel my membership, Ixtel told me I would have to come back when a manager was available, I told her that wasn't going to work it has to be done today because I no longer get the time during lunch anymore, this was my last day I can take care of this. She had me fill out the form and told me there was cancellation fee, which by the way is six months worth of gym membership. I told her when I signed up Travis said there wasn't any fees, she said that I would need to talk to the manager. Total scam...lie to you to get you in the door to sign you up... I told her "If a manager is required to be there to cancel a membership then a manger must be present at all times" She informed me she will give it to Daniel but there is no guarantee it will be cancelled and gave me the customer service number. I tried calling that number but it just had me on hold forever, then transfers to an operator which is a recording to leave a message. I called Smart Gym back today to make sure my membership was cancelled and spoke with Daniel. He said it was not cancelled, I needed to come back in and sign the form. I told him Ixtel didn't tell me I had to sign anything when I gave her the form, he said that's why a manger needs to be present. MY POINT EXACTLY! If a manager MUST be there then why is a manager never available??? When people walk in and want to sign up it's amazing people don't have any issues signing up. I explained to Daniel I do not have the time during lunch anymore which he replied sarcastically, "you don't have Saturday and Sunday free to come down and sign??" Sure Daniel, because I get one day off of work and that's how I want to spend it, driving to your gym to sign a piece of paper so you can take advantage some more and squeeze that last bit of blood out of your customers. I left a message with my attorney, he seemed interested that they obstruct their customers from being able to cancel. I'm so disappointed and upset with this gym. I thought that if by some chance my schedule changed again I would go back..but after this experience I will NEVER go back and I will tell everyone to beware of this gym. What they don't realize is that life changes continuously, if someone has to cancel, you shouldn't make it a painful process because people would be more likely to go back or recommend the place but I will make it a quest to spread the word NOT TO JOIN THIS GYM!!!! read more

This is the absolute worst experience I have ever had to deal with; Costumer service is nonexistent ! I joined last Feb. before it opened. Shortly thereafter I became ill, could not attend; per my primary care Dr. I contacted the gym, they basically said that was my problem. I contacted the manager, he said that I needed to get a note from my Doc, which I did! and maybe something could be worked out. I never used the gym or the personal trainer and am still being charged monthly. After many lengthy discussions with someone in charge, who later quit without doing what they said they would do. I am still dealing with them and getting a run around constantly. I have talked to corporate , managers, accounting people and get the run around. It is not surprising that the staff has short longevity, I am constantly dealing with someone new. I have been promised repeatably that it is handled but they continue to charge me when they say they won't. They have maxed out my credit card with this! I am a senior citizen, don't know if they just prey on the old or everyone. read more
