We were expecting to not have luck or pay a crazy fee since it's last minute request on a Sunday. That was the exact opposite of what we experienced. The only employee there was Ashely. A 3 yr veteran of that location. She was patient, polite and extremely helpful. She got us the $1 for 1st month, which some additional fees and required insurance on top. She was extremely knowledgeable and gave some good advice on what to get and what not to do. She showed us the location and we were done with out total transaction in 30 mins. We were pleasantly surprised with our overall experience. The location is clean. But seems like some there are some moisture issues, which they did not hide. The place is temperature controlled. It seems very secure, you need a code to get in and out and use elevators. THE BEST PART! They have secure off street parking. So when you unload or load your stuff. Elevators are roomy and line up with the floor. So when you borrow their carts, the wheels don't get stuck in between the elevator and floor. Great location with accessibility to secure parking. Their hours are somewhat limiting. 6am to 6pm. Which if you are trying to go after work. It's tough.

I've literally been locked in the facility since they don't maintain the gates or have staffing during open hours. And calling 911 didn't help. AVOID PUBLIC STORAGE OR LITERALLY RISK YOUR SAFETY!

The self check-out was weird but easy! I also used their services when it was winter, at a time with was lower U-Haul traffic, but I could imagine this space being tight... Would recommend knowing your directions of the garage before leaving because the roundabout sent us on a scenic route. Our truck had some dents with stickers on them to indicate these were from a previous incident, so that was helpful to see.

I picked up the keys from a U-Haul employee on Sunday before they closed. I used the app to finish my reservation for the storage later on Sunday after the U-Haul location was closed. The online system assigned me 2 storage units on the third floor. I loaded my life into the U-Haul truck on Sunday night and returned to the storage location on Monday. I attempted to access the storage but the only elevator to the third floor was out of service. No employee in the building informed me on Sunday that there is only one elevator to the third floor and it is out of service and it does not have a projected date to be operational. I went to the main office and spoke to an employee. Her name was Channel. She informed me that there was any other unit available and sent me alone to go look for it. I eventually found the unit and it had a lock on it (occupied). I returned to the office and let her know. Channel responded that there is no other storage units and I'll have to go somewhere else or contact another U-Haul. I informed her that is not how business is done and asked to speak to her manager. She informed me that he manager was off until Wednesday. I then informed her that I will communicate with the manager moving forward. On Tuesday there was no storage available in the area that was close and available. After speaking to customer service and reservations. They were able to find me a storage unit on Bladensburg rd and with the help of Evert the manager, I was able to take advantage of the one month of free storage. Evert save my life, I was able to tell my wife her belongings won't need to sit in a truck forever. I was then able to unload my belongings and finished up the paperwork with Evert. Evert provided the best experience a client/customer can ever have and with that Evert needs a championship. Preserve him please. Later on Tuesday, Channel from the SW U-Haul called me and stated that she can help me by extending the U-Haul rental to Wednesday and she is going to have to charge me. This came was like a slap in the face to me. The Southwest U-Haul location sold me a service and did not deliver (false advertising), then informed me that they were going to continue to charge me and not accommodate me for the inconvenience that was caused by the U-haul's employees horrific customer service and neglectful business practices. I then informed Channel that I will not be authorizing any further charge and this situation is getting close to the territory for a lawsuit. Channel then responded, I have to return the truck asap and stated this is why she doesn't help people. I informed Channel she is not the manager, if she can't assist an inconvenienced customer then there is no further conversation that needs to occur. I then contacted the customer service department and informed them about the recent conversation and wanted to confirm that if I have possession of the U-Haul after drop off time it would not reported as theft. The customer service wanted to confirm when I would return the U-Haul truck on Wednesday morning and speak to the manager. The customer service informed me the U-Haul will not be reported stolen and I am able rest easy. I called the U-Haul and asked to speak to the manager. A wonderful woman named Nakita informed me that she was the manager, I gave a brief introduction and informed her that I will be arriving in 10 mins. I meet with Nakita and had a wonderful conversation. U-Haul seems to have amazing managers but horrible employees. Nakita was amazing, she took ownership of the problem and alleviated all the horrible experience. I returned the U-Haul and I will never recommend anyone to utilize the storage services at the southwest U-Haul location. For this experience, I hope U-Haul credits my account 50% of the cost to rent the U-Haul and not be charged for any gas or mileage used to transport my belongings from the SW location to the Bladensburg rd location.

    I have had many moves and thus, many experiences with moving companies. These include corporate…read moremovers and cross state movers. Grasshopper Movers is HANDS DOWN the best moving company I've worked with. Maybe because they are local and small, or maybe because they're just committed to providing the best service possible. EVERY single person I dealt with at Grasshopper has been customer focused and professional. They are clearly a company that is focused on meeting customer needs versus up-selling or lengthening the process. I would have even considered myself a not ideal client in that I contacted Grasshopper last minute and used them for storage far longer than anticipated AND asked for delivery and received it within 2 days of the request (meaning they didn't get to milk more money out of us just because they could.). DC is filled with lots of competition and these folks are just old fashioned in their approach - they have pride in their work. Finally, they also had the best price based on my extensive research (which I do professionally). If only they provided services outside of moving and storage - housekeeping? mobile phone service? Wifi & cable TV? OK, now I jest, but you get my point. Call them and sleep well. (FYI: I rarely write these because I seem to not have time, but I was motivated because of how awesome they all were to me - it's the least I could do.)

These were irreplaceable, and they were contaminated while in the care of a facility I was paying to keep them safe. This is a serious health hazard and a complete failure of basic pest control and responsibility. Management did not take this situation seriously. I strongly warn others: do not store your belongings here, especially anything sentimental or valuable.

We have gotten…read morenew items, and they are completely irreplaceable and damaged due to feces and urine on our items. Things were chewed through and shredded as rodents were trying to obviously nest in our unit!!!We have so many valuable things that cannot be replaced and no one has called us back pertaining to the issue. We had to move our items out not only due to the pricing at $500+ dollars per month but bc of the negligence of pest control. What does our insurance cover if we cannot rectify this issue? So many ppl moved out on the same day we did due to the same issue. The unit next to us had food in it and the rodents just spread!!!!! Unacceptable and heartbreaking! There has been a fire, damage to doors so you have to walk long distance to your storage unit, and flat beds were not available when needed. We have had to report this situation also to BBB.

When I called the company for an ETA, I kept getting a later and later ETA. Around 6 PM still with no honest ETA, I spoke with the manager Kate. She said the the office would be closing soon, but that there was an error and I had been scheduled after a long, all-day job. This is despite the fact that when I had the confirmation call with the scheduler, I had reiterated that the 1-5 PM window was what I wanted. Finally at 7:30 PM I got an ETA of arriving to *start* the job at 8 PM! I had spoken with a few managers at this point, who assured me that despite the crew having worked an entire day's long job, there was no cut-off and they would keep working... I am not a labor law expert but that is a terrible way to treat your employees doing demanding physical labor all day long who have not even had dinner. I said no to having an exhausted crew who had worked all day long come to start my job at 8 PM at night. Not only did I not want an exhausted crew to keep working on my behalf, I also could not be the new neighbor moving in at 10 PM (which would have been the case given the distance and load time). Instead, I asked to have the job finished the next morning, which I am thankful they accommodated (the bare minimum here). This was a HUGE headache, I had taken time off of work for this move, and it was wasted waiting all afternoon and evening for an honest ETA. The communication was poor, only one person apologized for this snafu at all and I kept having to call back to get updates (few people called me back when they said they would). Additionally, I had reserved street parking at my new residence (required 4 business days notice to do so) which had expired by the time the movers ever showed up. It only worked out because my new landlord and ALL the other tenants VERY kindly helped me out by moving all their cars. All this headache and I had to ask for a discount, which ended up only being 10 percent. That didn't even cover the wasted reserved parking fee I paid for! The movers themselves were very good at their job, but it doesn't seem like they are treated well. When I told the first crew it was too late to start my move, they should get a rest and dinner, they were so relieved. I had expected so much better from such a highly rated company.
