    Obedience Training

We have been going to obedience class and daycare since our pup was six months old. The trainers, especially Julie and Yvonne, are wonderful and the facility is clean. Highly recommend!

JULIE IS AMAZING! We've gone through 2 obedience classes with our dog so far and every class is fun and educating. The classes are large and she attends to each and every dog perfectly! Koa says thanks Julie!!!!

I am very disappointed they couldn't help us with my dog's anxiety issue. It wasn't the trainer. But their training style. We didn't believe that a prong collar wouldn't create more anxiety for her. Before considering doing training with this company be aware they use prong collars. If you don't feel comfortable using one like I didn't feel comfortable then don't call them. They have the do it their way use a prong collar or they won't help you attitude.

We love Smarty Paws! Our Pomeranian & Alaskan Klee Kai mix, Maverick, graduated from KinderPuppy on October 18th this year. He is now taking Basic Obedience and both his classes have been with Johnna. She is a wonderful trainer who shows the skill you're wanting to learn until you got it! She also provides excellent tips and tricks to problem solve any issues your pup might be having. Maverick had some struggles with getting his harness on when we first enrolled into classes. Thanks to Johnna's help, he associates the harness with getting to leave the house with us. Her advice changed the game as we were worried we might not have been able to take him out! The classes are hands on and you get exposure to other dogs which is nice. Our dogs need friends too! Smarty Paws is fairly priced. We love how they also offer daycare in case we can't take Maverick somewhere with us. We are planning on continuing to grow Maverick's abilities through Smarty Paws. They really know their stuff when it comes to dogs. Big thank you to Johnna and Smarty Paws!

Smarty Paws has been amazing! We were required, by contract, when we adopted our pup to attend at the very least a puppy kindergarten class and we loved it so much that we are still attending basic 2. Julie has been our trainer and she is so incredibly informative and all the pups really love her. She is available for advice outside of class as well. We also attend the boot camp from time to time on the dates that she is there as an alternative to leaving our pup at home while we work and Julie always send photos throughout the day and keeps us updated on his day. It's been great! Cannot recommend this training camp enough!

We enrolled our year and a half Jack Russell terrier in the Basic Obedience Training classes in October and couldn't be more pleased with the results. Julie was our trainer/coach who led the weekly training sessions and gave us homework to practice each week. Julie explained things in a way that really made sense and gave practical solutions to problems we were experiencing with our dog. She sent texts and videos after each class to ensure we remembered the training we had practiced that week in class and would be able to refer back to the instructions and videos at home during the week. We have also brought our dog to the Boot Camp offered during the day at Smarty Paws several times and have seen additional improvement in her behavior as a result of working with the trainers. This business is very well structured and I feel we have gotten results far beyond our expectations. We are planning to enroll in the next phase of Obedience Training in January to further strengthen our dog's training. My husband and I highly recommend Smarty Paws and believe if you put in the time and use the methods taught you will also get great results!

We've had one dog trained by the outstanding team at Smarty Paws and are currently having a second dog trained. Julie B is a true dog whisperer, is patient and explains everything easily to train the dogs. We highly recommend this organization!!

My 18 month old JRT twins just finished Basic Obedience Level 4 with trainer Julie Braun. They were also in her Level 1-3 classes. Working with Julie & Smarty Paws has been a lot of fun & a great investment in our pups, their quality of life and ours. We take them out with us often: Home Depot, the coffee shop, restaurants etc..& we always get stopped by people who compliment on how well behaved our dogs are and how well they walk together on leash with no signs of aggression on anxiety. We look forward to weekend get aways with them. Behavior issues specific to my dogs that have been corrected: separation anxiety; fear aggression, lack of focus & bully behavior. Thank you Julie & Smarty Paws!

Julie is freaking amazing. We got our puppy last August and we're struggling SO bad and didn't see any end in site and then Julie came into our lives. Our puppy knows commands and isn't a dog of the wild now. We go to bootcamp a few times a week so she can have fun and learn with Julie and play with other dogs her size and then we also take Julie's obedience classes and smart dog class. Julie is amazing and truly cares about you and your dog and is always there to help and teach you. Thank you a million times over Julie !!! They also do photo shoots for holidays and birthdays. It's so adorable !

They say our dogs are like our children, obviously. I'm very picky with what's best for my baby. I want what's best for him and will invest in only the best. I was recommended to Julie thru a coworker and WOWOWOW. I'm so happy I found her!!! Julie has taught me and my pup so much. She has introduced me to new training styles that has paid off in so many ways. My partner and I always chat about how impressed we are with her after our classes and say "you know she really loves what she does" and it's simply because she shows up her authentic self. You can see her love and passion the first time you interact with her. She doesn't let you give up and helps you build confidence. Training can be hard, especially with a puppy and Julie has played a major role in the success of my boys growth! We have done kinder puppy, obedience 1 and starting obedience 2 soon. We just started bootcamp and I'm excited to see what's to come. Julie, thank you for being the best and taking care of my baby. I trust you and appreciate you so so much!!! xo Madison, Jordan and Kobe!

We have been taking Bailee to Smarty Paws for about 15 months now. We started in Kinder Puppy with a wild 12 week old! We were hooked and we went to Puppy Socials, a Smart Dog class and all of the Basic Obedience classes. From there we went into the Service Dog program and Bailee just passed her Public Access to be my Service dog. We could not have done any of this without Julie Braun, she is amazing! She helped us every step of the way - everything from the basics, working through some fears, impulse control, getting through some regression behaviors and so much more. Julie was always there to guide us. Bailee loves Julie and enjoys going to Bootcamp 1-2 times a week. We will continue to take classes off and on to "fine tune" Bailee's skills and continue her training/education. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my girl.

Smarty paws website requirements for day care

I've been deciding if I should leave this review or not. But I have Bad taste from this encounter. So my parents adopted a dog. He's not human social but LOVES other dogs. He's a littermate syndrome boy. So the vet (I used to work for which is the vet he goes to) suggested smarty paws for Day Care. Sounded all good and my parents went down there to inquire and their "trainer" the first one they met won't mention any names was like oh he will need 2 to 3 training boot camp classes (the dog was not with them). They didn't meet any other trainers so it's commission or quota based. She said oh I can train him to pick up stuff all while never meeting the dog or mentioning how long that may take. The vet and everyone said he's very much not ready for training in the beyond basic sense. He knows sit. Leave it. They're website states they need one evaluation at boot camp price to see if they're eligible for daycare. She saw an opportunity and money and not the best for the dog. This I know may not be consistent with the "business" but it was enough for me to look up, read others reviews and leave a review for the one brief interaction we had.

Julie Braun (Instructor) and Girasol (Pup) on Level 1 Basic Obedience Training, Graduation Day!
    Wendy G.

My husband and me took our puppy, Girasol, to Smarty Paws for Level 1 Obedience Training. We have seen so much progress in everything she has learned since day one. We were so lucky to have the best trainer Julie Braun. She pushed us to be better dog parents and taught us how to make sure our pup maximized her training experience. She was very clear with boundaries and never forced us to try something we didn't want to or that she wouldn't do on her fur babies. For example, on the first day she gave us about 5 different collar options for training and explained in depth, the purpose and safety of each. While she personally used one, she did not force us to use it, hence all the options. Julie was very personable and truly cared about every single fur baby in the group. We notably saw progress in all the other pups as well. Julie was great with communication and overall a Pawsome instructor. We will continue on to Level 2 Obedience training with Julie!

The dog is a total love bug but considering his size and strength, we couldn't risk any anti social behavior. After a few sessions in our home focusing on basic obedience and leash training, I began taking our dog to Nate's group classes. After a few of those, our dog was comfortably lying down surrounded by 14 strange dogs!! Incredible!!! We recently added a third rescue to the family. The introduction did not go well at all. It was a disaster. We called Nate again. He furthered the training on our first two with crate training and in a short time, he had all three walking together, calm and behaved. Here's the bottom line. Yes, Nate is a fantastic dog trainer but more importantly, he trained us to know how to understand and work with our dogs. It was very easy to let our dogs go untrained since they are such sweethearts with us. Now they are pets that we can take other places and not worry about them around people and other dogs. We know how to handle them. That takes so much stress away. We can walk them together, they are calm and happy. That makes everyone happy. I cannot over recommend Nate. He's a great guy and really knows what he is doing. If you have a dog, call him.

After a short 6 day long board-and-train followed by 6 months of weekly one-on-one sessions with Nate, I can confidently say our sweet girl is rid of her demons! lol. She went from a dog that I was scared to be under the same roof with to the sweetest girl that is off-leash trained, safe around children of all ages (under supervision of course), and eats just like any other dog I've ever had (with better manners actually). I am so grateful for his guidance. It took lots of time, dedication, and sacrifice but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I also feel all around more confident around dogs. Once you learn leash basics properly you can do anything!

This location is closer to where I live so I thought that I'll try them out and the experience would be the same, but I was wrong. The staff is very friendly and the location is very nice but I did not realize when I booked my stay that the location has no indoor play area. That would be generally fine if they have the dogs play outside early in the morning and in the evening when it's not as hot but not throughout the hottest times of the day. When I looked at the cameras, my dog was outside with over 20 dogs packed in a play area during the hottest times of the day. I picked him up on Monday, 6/8, and the staff told us that they barely noticed today that my husky had hot spots on his head and paw. I saw the hotspot and noticed he was also limping because of the hot spot on his paw. I treated the hotspot Monday night and Tuesday, but yesterday I had to take my dog to the vet because the hot spot on his head started to bleed and show puss coming out. The vet shaved it and checked his cheek and found a BIG hot spot on his cheek as well. My dog now has a cone on, I have to spray the spot on his head and cheek every 12 hrs, put ointment on his paw every 12 hrs, and he has to take a antibiotic every 12 hrs for the next 7 days. I'm sure during the winter it's fine to have dogs outside all day but not during the summer! The place is probably fine for a daycare but don't board your pet at this location!

She helped us learn the tools we needed for our dogs to be successful. After 8 sessions our dogs are doing great with door manners, a long stay, coming when called and more. She has taught us fun games that allow the dogs to use their noses to find scents, while also tiring them out. When my…read morepartner and I were looking for a trainer for our dogs, we weren't blind to what our babies needed to succeed, but we didn't know how to go about it. Denise was the first trainer to write me back, and upon going onto her website and thumbtack account, I read all of the wonderful things that others had said about her - they're all true by the way. Denise sat down and listened to all of our concerns. We have a 1.5 year old rednose pitbull and a 2.5 year old akita/shepherd mix. Both our girls were rescues, and after a really ugly fight among each other, and our vet telling us that they'd NEVER be able to be around each other alone again, we knew we had to do something for them and for ourselves. Even just the consultation, we were able to see what the problem areas were and started a game plan. Five weeks later, and my dogs are almost unrecognizable, compared to before Denise came into our lives. Denise is kind, loving, and knowledgeable. I was so scared I was going to end up with a drill sergeant for a trainer, and that my dogs weren't going to respond to anything anyone said. BOY WAS I WRONG! Both of our dogs took to her and her direction so well - even our 8 year old mini schnauzer mini poodle started to take direction from her, and she wasn't even a focus. They listen better, they play better with one another, and most of all they're trusting us, as their owner's to show them the way, in everything that they do. We will be giving it a few months of trying to do some of our own follow through, and then more than likely touching base with Denise again for some more advanced training. I can't thank you enough, Denise. Thank you for showing us that we can love our dogs, while still providing structure. You have been nothing short of a miracle worker. In the above pictures, you'll be able to see some of our progress. We really hope that more dog owners will take the responsibility of getting the appropriate training that their fur-children need - if they can't do it themselves - and I wouldn't put my faith in anyone that isn't Denise.
