Family wanted some fresh seafood and this food pod came up. Didn't want to go to a sit down restaurant. Got two chirashi bowls and the garlic chicken. The food was AMAZING. highly recommend this place. The garlic chicken was basically fried chicken with a spicy mayo sauce and two scoops of furikake rice. The chirashi bowl had four large pieces each of the freshest ahi tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. We will definitely be coming back again before we leave Maui. read more

We really enjoyed our yum yum roll! At first we were hesitant of the price $20 but then we thought hey we pay that at sushi bars so it's probably gonna be reaaally good! It was shrimp tempura with ahi and wasabi aioli at the top! Perfection and such beautiful presentation. My husband said "that was the best garlic chicken I've ever had literally 3 or 4 times after we left. I enjoyed my steak but wasn't crazy about how much sauce it was in. We'll be back!! This was super great! Was very skeptical of sushi from a food truck but the great reviews convinced me to give it a go. I had some killer sashimi and nigiri. Only three downsides were: 1- Super small amounts of ginger and wasabi, even after asking for extra. 2- Aloha shoyu vs soy sauce, which may be more due to local preference? The price is comparable to other sushi places around the area and also just as fresh. The fish taste fresh and could use less sauce - but then again, I see a lot of tourists asking for more sauces in other sushi restaurants so I guess they are catering to them. Tonight we decided to eat out. Found some food trucks in the pay parking lot off of Wainee Street in Lahaina. Never heard of Smash Maui and checked their menu board. Mostly sushi but they also have a plate lunch menu. Tonight we got the Garlic Chicken plate and also the tempura roll. Took a while to get our food as this place is busy! That's a good sign that they must be good. The three guys cooking nonstop. Nobody was licking their fingers. Our order was finally ready and took it to go. Got the plates in the car and the delicious smells filled the car. Lot's of garlic with teri sauce. Did the unveiling at home and was pleasantly surprised to find the garlic chicken plate was a good size portion and the tempura roll was covered with goodness and very visually appetizing. Mmmmm. The taste was full of flavors tempered by the white rice with furikake. Crunchy fried chicken with just the right amount of garlic and sauce. Winnahs The tempura roll was also well done and full size. Covered with all the good stuff (see the photo). Now the taste was awesome without dipping into any soy sauce. We loved it all. Will be back to try their steak. Updating this cause forgot to add the garlic chicken is plate lunch like as in almost a plate lunch. We went for sushi night -- the sushi was exceptionally good. No line, just a short wait for food at 5:45 and they had a couple of shaded picnic tables. The portions were huge -- really reasonably priced for the quality and amount you get per order. The Haleakala roll was really good. I'm not sure how they get the tempura so crispy, even with the spicy Mayo on top. The nigiri was also really good quality, and all of the sauces and preparations are creative and delicious. Doesn't stick to the hours of operation!! There should be a sign that indicates whether they'll be open on specific days because we went there Sunday-Wednesday during the time they open according to the sign however they weren't open all day during their hours. read more
