This was the first time I went to a burger joint where you had to seat yourself, pay upfront for your food and then get a waiter to serve you. It was pretty strange at first, but then I guess its getting a bit popular here in Houston....not sure why since I get pretty confused every time. Regular here. While I enjoy the burgers, I also really like the smash grilled chicken sandwiches. My favorite is the avocado club, minus mayo add buffalo sauce. Yummy. The smash fries and sweet potato fries are always good sides to get and so are the fried pickles. The salads are also delicious and big, haven't been able to eat the whole bowl yet. Oh man what a burger!!! Soft, juicy, lean, and on a wholegrain bun, unbelievable. Had the seasoned fried in olive oil and some herbs and I really liked the touch. My husband and I were stoked to see a Smashburger going in so close to where we lived. After all the anticipation and all the hype we'd heard about this place, we were left really dissapointed. We felt that the quality of their product wasnt worth the money. The burger patties were dried out, but the buns were saturated and soggy with grease - don't ask me how that works. The produce on our burger looked past its prime and simply tossed on, rather than placed on. The only redeaming quality was that were were more options than your usual burger joint. So, after a lovely afternoon off from work so that the misses and I could do some shopping at the Houston Premium Outlet Mall up the road, we discovered that we were hearing our hunger alarms going off; not to mention our feet were a bit sore from all the walking. SO! we googled on our phones for a quick bite to eat before we drove back to our humble abode. So, while I drove she cruised the menu to discover that they DO have chicken for something on the "healthier" side. ON TO THE FOOD! Because I like to check out the signature choices first before I go on a creative adventure on the next visit, I had the BBQ, Bacon and Cheddar SMASH with sweet potato fries and a straawberry milkshake. The misses had a buffalo chicken sandwich with french fries and an IBC Bottled Soda Float. As a friend puts it, "HERB FRIES!" It didn't add or hinder the taste to me even though it was a bit weird on sweet potato fries. The burger was awesome! Although, next time I might make it a double smash. The hamburger patties are flat. I like a hearty burger; like to have a big patty in my burger. The shake was awesome! ON TO THE MISSES! She said it was ok. The amount of mayo they put on the sandwich about killed her appetite, and if she had known that there was mayo on the sandwich she would have asked them to not put it on there (I looked and it does mention it on the menu). The atmosphere was very nice, clean, and has a hipster feel; very modern in look. The location is much to be desired, but perfect for the business as far as incoming revenue. When we finally got to the area, traffic was HORRIBLE. The parking area was packed and there was construction in the area so it minimized road ways, parking and congested traffic. You put all this together and you have a recipe for a potential disaster as far as people and accidents go. I'm going to assume, over time, that all of this will calm down. BUT! I recommend that you go to this location during off peak hours, and drive your smaller vehicle. Trucks are hard to park in this area. Pros: -The buns are excellent,(The only good part of the meal) -Food was out quickly, (Too quick as it was undercooked) Cons: -Way overpriced for a burger, no combos everything is extra -Under cooked meat -No seasoning on burgers, or fries -Fries were cold and seemed like they had been sitting for a while, they were so bad none of us ate them and our dogs would'nt eat them and they eat anything. -Only 1 size drink (16oz) Overall this was 2 trips in 1 for us, my wife got sick and started vomiting shortly after eating here. So I only write reviews for places I've never been to. This place was great. I like their quality. Had a Bacon Cheeseburger. I don't care too much for the fries cause they are skinny. My wife feels the same, but overall this is a better choice than some other burger places because of quality and ingredients being more on the healthy side. I need a green puke emoji! Arrived early on a Sunday 10:30 - ish for a quick bite before working around the house. Ordered a salad with chicken and a avocado club burger and tots. Before we could sit down, I had to ask for a table to be cleaned because not one was clean! I should have asked for a refund and left right then, but stayed. In an hour and half you can't tell me there was a mad rush since not one person showed up before we left. Went to the bath to wash my hands. Now, I remind you they open at 9:00 AM and it is 10:30 AM. No soap, no paper towels and the waste basket had overflowing trash on the floor. When the food arrives it was drop and run service. My tots were soaking with oil that was old and rancid with a few added crispy burned brussel sprout leaf's sprinkled in which were likely someone else's fare yesterday! The burger was way overcooked, the bun hard and stale with 2 very small bacon pieces. Moving to the salad, my wife at a few bites then left it. The salad was dirty/gritty from unwashed spinach we assume and apples looked like they came from a McDonalds happy meal. Good luck finding help as they sat in the back on their phones. I used to love Smash burger however, for a second bad run-in (first unreviewed), I will NOT be returning... as always, reader-be-ware! It was a nice change from what I was used to, but it wasn't good enough for me to go there over say, Wendy's. They make a solid hamburger, but I think it is just too expensive for what you get. Not sure what has been going on here but I'm downgrading them again from 3 to 2 stars. When they first opened, their Smash fries were the bomb, just the right amount of oil and tasty seasoning and garilic. Fast-forward and they've become a greasy mess with only a smidge of seasoning. I've tried twice to tell them I didn't want the fries dripping in oil, to no avail. On the trip this past week, my daughter asked if she could get more of the seasoning and less oil. The person at the counter said that it was already mixed up. Seriously? Like you can't scoop up more of the seasoning? While I still like Smashburger, I do not crave it like I used to because of the fries and the prices are a little high for what you get. The service is still pretty good which is one of the view things they have going for them. Also, they need to stop changing the menu. Always consistent since my second visit, and in a good way. My firs time here, service was slow, food was not that great at all. But now, it's pretty darn tasty. It's no revolutionary type of burger place, but if you want something a few bumps up from a fast food joint, then this you're go to. The Baja burger is awesome! Just enough spice, flavorful, and I love the smash fries. Location is decent, parking is not plentiful but never have an issue finding the place. Ambience is decent as well, warm colors, high ceilings, not really a diner type feel, but more of a modern burger spot. I wasn't a huge fan of Smash burger but my family seemed pretty okay with it so that is why i am giving it 3 stars. Some positives are that they have a large variety of buns and topping you can choose from to add to your burger. Negatives are that I found the food to be WAY too greasy. My husband and I used to love coming here to have a delicious burger, salads, fries, and shakes. There was always a manager in the dining room making for a quality experience. Boy have things changed. We went there yesterday and it was dirty, short staffed, one employee came out of the kitchen in his house slippers while the employee who was supposed to take our order made some shakes standing right in front of us... once he finally helped us he said "it may take 20 min. , is that okay"? The tables all needed to be cleaned and there were large paper bags on them. I soon realized they bring your food in these grocery bags. No more do they serve your burger in the stainless baskets nor do you get the shake in the cold stainless tumblers? No more condiments on each table... Such a disappointment. The burgers were still good although a bit smaller but the fries were luke warm and my regular fries came with rosemary which are no longer even on the menu. They did correct the order and the fresh fries were good. My husbands sweet potato fries were cold and inedible. As we were leaving I was able to notice how much trash was laying around everywhere. I also noticed an employee wearing an extra oversized Bucee's sweatshirt? Im thinking this place needs to lock its doors and get a drive thru if they will ever stay in business. Disappointed, first time there. The service was good and place was clean but my bacon cheeseburger was small and cold. The meat was over cooked with no flavor. Fries were thin, hot and fresh, were the best thing we had. Really didn't like that my food came to our table about 10 minutes before my daughters. All the drinks tasted off. I was totally impressed when I saw the manager working the floor. The Associates were taking orders, doing the cooking, the manager was, both, helping behind the counter and every five minutes or so he would walk the floor to clean tables and to pick up trash, to make sure things were ready for the next guest. Smashburger is an appropriate name for this place. I ordered the baja chicken sandwich and it was the thinnest piece of chicken I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. Yes it was tasty, but c'mon! $7 for a sandwich alone, I expect a normal sized piece of chicken breast. No, it hadn't been beat to thinness, it had been cut in half, like using one chicken breast to make multiple sandwiches. One nice touch was the fresh jalapeno, it added a nice crispness and pleasant heat. When it's all said and done, this place is overpriced for what they have to offer in chicken. My office has ordered from this location a few times, and every single time not a single order was correct. I reached out to the business and spoke to the Manager, Charlotte, and we were amicable about the order's being messed up the first and second time, however the third time we went and got food from them, the manager was less than friendly about it when all our orders were again, incorrect. My first time to try the Smashburger. I ordered the Texas Burger, Smash Fries, and a drink for $10. The burger was juicy, well seasoned, and tasty, but I was most impressed with their fries. The fries are thinly cut and seasoned with rosemary and olive oil. The difference in the flavor of the fries is extremely addicting. Dipped in ketchup, these fries are the perfect complement for the Texas burger. I will order a chicken burger next time to see if the quality also applies to other entrees.
