The taste of the burger was good service was decent especially being at an airport definitely a good alternative for the regular chain food places.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offer gluten-free buns for their burgers, and cook their fries in separate oil to avoid cross contamination. I love that they were open at 6:30 am for travelers who have been up all night. It only took 6 minutes to prepare my order, and they had wifi while I waited. The truffle burger was amazing, and the tater tots were great, too. Way better than I expected for airport good. I would go to this restaurant if it existed in my hometown. My only suggestion would be to advertise the allergy friendly options more prominently. I almost walked past without stopping because I didn't see anything on the menu, but luckily the friendly cashier was available and answered my questions.

With traveling through the airport and you need to grab a bite to eat Smashburger was a great option! Of course the prices are something you have to contend with and normally I'd bypass but because of our late arrival in Cleveland I opted to grab a bite before catching our flight.

I had a layover in Dallas and I needed to eat something other than chips and snacks!! I saw some people eating burgers and it looked yummy. I ended up ordering the Bacon Stack Smash Burger and tater tots. The burger was juicy with great flavor. The tots were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The young lady who took my order was very friendly and helpful. It was very busy and noisy. She repeated my order to insure what I ordered. Great service!! Overall, I received my order within five minutes. My food was fresh and tasty. My only gripe would be that the burger was small and the tots seemed even smaller for the price point. The only justification for the price would be it's located in an airport!!

I had a little bit of a layover, so I decided to grab a shake since it was close. It was very good. The lines weren't really lines, but I was able to get in and out pretty quickly. *I ordered with no whipped cream.*

    Smashburgers in Dallas airport

Searching for something to eat before my flight at the Dallas airport, my choices were few. It was either BBQ or Hamburger. There was a line of people waiting at Smashburgers, including a pilot. I figured he knew where to eat, so I took my place in line. There was a girl in training behind the counter with the manager. Both were friendly and courteous as they took my order. The busy open court tables were filled with customers eating burgers, so I had to wait for a table. I didn't notice anyone cleaning the tables, customers were doing their own bussing. My order came up within 10 minutes, and a nice roomy table with a view opened up. The burger was juicy and delicious with a smokey grilled flavor. Told myself to only eat 1/2 and save the rest for the flight, but that huge burger found its way down my belly as I couldn't stop eating. This was the best tasting burger I've had in a while. The quality of meat was spot on, and the fries were perfectly crisp. I managed to save some fries for the flight.

The woman who took my order was very friendly and clearly informed me my order would take 10-15 minutes.  I appreciated that because if I was in a rush to my flight I could have declined ordering. It also let me know everything is made fresh--no heat lamps. There was a long line of customers that wouldn't end, and it was 1:45 in the afternoon. My chicken strips and tater tots came fresh and hot, and I was glad they included ketchup in the bag. But the strips were over cooked, so they were dry. Did they fry too long? Was the oil too hot? Don't know.  But major disappointment.  The tots weren't bad. I guess I shouldn't expect much for chicken at a burger place, but this was a kids meal, so I think care should have been taken.

Ok for an airport restaurant. If I would have known it would have been $17 for a hamburger, fries, and coke, I would have just went to Wendy's a few feet away. Beside the price, the food was good. They cook everything in front of you, which could be good or bad, depending on if you ever the reality of watched sweaty line cooks.

Gluten free Turkey burger with rosemary fries and a water.
    Casey R.

What a wonderful spot to grab a hearty meal between flights! The reviews made me a little nervous however I was really craving a Turkey burger and their rosemary fries. Another perk is the gluten free bun! To start the line was short and the wait less than 5 min. You can also place the order using the AA app and they will have it ready if you do not have much time between your connecting flights. The atmosphere was loud and it was hard to hear the Gal at the register, thankfully she was patient with my clogged up ears... ha! The Turkey burger was moist, flavorful and all around hit the air. The gluten free bun was warm, moist and light.... Not the hard cardboard or fall apart bread most of us celiacs are used too. I did tell them I had a gluten allergy and while they can not guarantee cross contamination they did do their best. The fries are one of my favorites at smash burger so you can imagine my excitement to get some rosemary fries while I waited during my 3 hour layover. All around I am giving this spot a 5 for location, time prep, flavorful food and friendly customer service. They are a little more expensive than McDonald's or Wendy's but the quality is so much better is there really a comparison??

Yesterday at the airport I made sure to order it custom and it came out great. I would choose Whataburger over Burger King any day. Coming from California, I have access to plenty of good burgers, but Whataburger had been talked up enough that I was curious to finally give it a try. The service was not particularly welcoming. I stood at the counter looking at the menu and waited for the employee to acknowledge me or ask whether I was ready to order. Instead, she looked away and did not say anything. When I stepped closer to the counter, she finally asked, "Do you want something?" Since it was around 6:00 a.m., I asked whether they were only serving breakfast or if the regular menu was also available. She told me they were serving everything, so I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. My food came out in about 10 minutes. The burger and fries were fine, but nothing about them really stood out to me. The service was also fairly middle-of-the-road overall--neither especially good nor terrible. One frustrating issue was the table. It looked normal, but it was extremely wobbly. A small movement caused my drink to tip over and spill, and I had to get a refill. Based on how unstable the table was, it seems unlikely that I was the first customer to encounter the problem. Overall, Whataburger was okay. I would not go out of my way or find myself craving it, but if someone handed me one of their burgers, I would still eat it.

It's home to some awesome servers, bright, an airy, colorful ambiance and a margarita that makes my top 10 list-and I've spent decades building and curating that list. I was there on a Tuesday morning in August-and found a comfy seat at the bar (where, yes, you can plug in and charge devices). I had just slammed down some Aunty Anne's pretzel bites, so wasn't hungry. But I was hoping for a great margarita-the kind you can only find west of the Mississippi. Ohhh, I found it-margarita mission accomplished. I ordered the first class margarita... and it lived up to its name. Lately I've only been able to find: bad mixes, too tangy or super weak 'ritas. This was none of that-it was superb... sublime, even. Totally worth the $22 (August 2026 price)-the kind of drink where you keep saying "man, this is good," with each sip. My excellent server, Crystal, didn't even laugh at me when I did it. I can't wait to go back and try the food. There's a cute little dining area adjacent to the bar-that seems to be close to everything in terminal D, including gates and other restaurants and retail. Time to book another trip through DFW! The real question should be do you need to have more of a fast casual restaurant experience with some booze the likes of Applebees or Ruby Tuesday? If not, you're much better off grabbing something from Chick-fil-A as it's a lot tastier and much cheaper. Otherwise, come on in, get some radioactive colored sugary cocktail and dine on some really mid enchiladas. Service was fine.

We're not fans of the Italian Beef Sandwich nor the Big Beef Sandwich; they typically have a lot of gravy in them. The Char-Grilled Italian Sausage Sandwich wasn't worth it. If you side the gravy and don't add peppers (an extra charge), you'd literally just get the bread and the sausage. The fries and onion rings are usually mediocre, but it's good served as a meal. It was one of those places you just kept going back to because the food was consistently great and it felt like a true Chicago institution. So when Portillo's finally came to Texas, I was thrilled. Let's start with the star of the show...the Italian Beef with hot peppers. It's incredible. Order it dipped and you will be in food heaven. And if you really want the ultimate Chicago move, make it a combo by adding the Maxwell Street sausage. That combination is absolute perfection. Messy, bold, and ridiculously good. Of course, the Chicago-style hot dogs are outstanding too. Just make sure you order it the right way and "drag it through the garden." That means the full lineup of toppings, just like they do in Chicago. It's the real deal. The sides are fantastic as well. The crinkle-cut fries are always solid, and the onion rings are super crispy and addictive. If you're trying to behave a little, the chopped salad is my wife's favorite. It's fresh, loaded with flavor, and honestly one of the best salads you'll get anywhere. And here's the surprise for people who haven't tried it...the hamburger is fantastic. Big, meaty, juicy, and full of flavor. I'll say it plainly. It's better than just about any fast-food or fast-casual burger out there. Bottom line...Portillo's isn't just another restaurant. It's a Chicago legend that delivers every single time. I'm glad Texas finally got the memo.
