They do have indoor seating, which looks spacious and comfortable, and the place was clean. Overall, it's a nice spot, but a bit on the pricey side. Had a craving for some BBQ after the abilities expo at market center hall. My search resulted in a several different options, Big Al's seemed to call out to me. I initially thought its namesake was that of the Big Al from kiss fm. But I was corrected. I ordered a 3 meat plate but decided to just go with Brisket and Ribs a side of beans and the fried okra. This is a no frills cafeteria style bbq joint, there's nothing fancy about it. Brisket was moist and smoked to perfection with the perfect smoked gradient of black on the outside, to smoke ring layer and then the moist meaty center. All moist and full of flavor. The ribs were also smoked to perfection. Perfectly tender and flavorful. There was a few different sauces, spicy and house. Both were good but I'm not a sauce person. Beans were serviceable, fried okra took an extra couple minutes because it's fresh fried and brought out in a bag. Perfection, crispy, crunchy,seasoned and hot! No soggy heat lamp effect. First time to visit based on reviews. They have daily specials but I got the brisket plate. The meat was plentiful 7/10, if I go back I'll ask for a little more marble. I got potato salad 5/10 and fried okra 7/10. The okra was fresh, waited a few minutes for it to be fried. I'm pretty sure they batter it there, not just frozen. The place is clean and the people are friendly. They have a couple bbq sauces, I like the spicy one. They offer onion, jalepenos and pickles 100/10 for free. The pickles! I didn't ask but wouldn't be surprised if they are homemade. Definitely not the cheap average ones most places have. Not too salty but great flavor! Also they have a free ice cream cone. OMG - best BBQ in the town!! When I judge BBQ, I taste the meats with no sauce to evaluate the quality of the base cook, moisture and flavor. Then I taste with sauces. This place is 1000% worth the 50 years in business!! GO!! GO!! GO!! Yes, each meat is awesome, and the turkey is moist - not dry like 90% of other chains (or inexperienced places who not it pit masters). These guys have mastered BBQ -Texas style!!!! The 'fatty brisket' is highly trimmed and has no gristle or 2 inch fat belt like other places. Big Al's is moist - no visible fat and succulent!!! DO NOT GET LEAN BRISKET!!! The fatty brisket is not what you get at other places!!!! This is what you want to ask for - and try to get some of the chard bark too!!! (I did - awesome!!) FYI- go there in off hours. Lunch can have no parking within 2 blocks and lines out the door. (No kidding.) But it's absolutely worth the wait!!! I've revamped my top 3 BBQ places in Big D... and they are now #1. This place has really great BB-Q. Note the brisket can sometimes be a little fatty. I would recommend getting the sausage or ribs. I love the condiment bar too crazy I know but I do love pickles and there's some good ones here lol. You can also sub your two sides with a loaded baked potato, which is amazing as well. We were back from California to visit family and went to Big Al's between official events. The staff was amazingly helpful and so sweet. They even learned my name by the time I left. We had the chopped and sliced brisket and it was wonderful. We got way too much sausage of both types but in my wisdom of old age I put it in the hotel fridge with the amazing rolls and had a sausage roll every morning at the hotel with my coffee. The pork ribs were fall off the bone in just the right way. We had creamed corn, beans, mac and cheese, and fried okra. The fried okra was perfect after adding a little salt but the mac and cheese was the stand out. It is a truly special recipe and my daughter took some inspiration from this dish to alter her own mac and cheese recipe at home. read more

This restaurant boasts being in business for 50 years so I thought I would give them a try. I ordered the two meat meal w/two sides Sliced sausage and pork ribs for the meats and Mac and cheese & fried okra for the sides. The sausage had a strange taste, never had anything quite like it before. The ribs were ok, very small and dry. I used the bbq sauce (which I never use anywhere) to moisten them up. The fried okra was bland, the Mac and cheese was the best thing I had & could actually be a stand alone meal. There really isn't much to say about the service as it's a line where you order and are served. The cashier was very polite. The restaurant was clean, however towards the end of the meal we had to leave as the smoker seemed to be vented inside the restaurant and we had a hard time breathing. I ordered a sliced beef sandwich, BBQ beans and potato salad. Ordering was easy, quick and price was reasonable. I drove back to the work site to eat. It was hard to drive with the heavenly aroma coming out of the bag. The BBQ sandwich was really good. Great smoke flavor, right amount of bark and not too spicy or bland. It was moist but not greasy. It needed only a touch of their sauce. Their sauce is sweet and tangy with just a touch of spice. This is good BBQ. The potato salad was full of wonderful flavors, not mushy and pretty good. The star of the meal was the BBQ beans. Right amount of spice, meaty, well cooked and enough sweetness that made them addictive! A tip, get more beans as you'll want more!
