At my wife's urging, I went to the smash burgers in Menlo park mall. I ordered the NJ smash, with a vanilla shake and it was one of the best burgers I've had - love the egg bun as well. I was one of the best burgers I've had ....not thee best. Regardless, the overall experience was positive - prices are reasonable (about 7 a burger), the whole dining area clean... Bathroom was clean as well ( usually if a bathroom is clean the kitchen is as well) ---will definetly come back. This review is primarily for the inefficient takeout procedures at this particular location, and unfair pricing overall. The burger quality/recipe is excellent and speaks for itself at any of the franchises. This was my 1st time doing takeout here. I came here for a quick order after a long day of shopping at the mall. I ordered the Avocado Ranch Black Bean Burger. I saw that the cost was $6.39, and was disappointed to learn it did not come with any sides at all. After placing the order, the cashier behind the counter told me to wait for it to be ready. The problem was that she did not tell me WHERE to wait for it. I looked around confusedly, and saw what looked like a typical fast food pick-up window. Above this counter there was a tiny sign that said "smash and dash pickup". However, the window was lined with equipment clearly designated for employees. So I stood back a bit under the sign. I waited about 10 minutes, and saw the cook behind the counter put what looked like my burger in a take out box ( I was the only one waiting) on the counter. He did Not call out my name which was printed on the receipt, nor did he look at me. The young lady who took my order was busy training a new employee. So,I was left to assume that I should just do as the sign said and "dash"with the burger that I already paid for. I went to the window, took the burger, saw that its receipt said my name, proceeded to place it in a bag set out on the counter, and suddenly the cashier ran over to me, took the burger from me, and said hastily "I can do that for you" and put it in the bag. I was obviously mortified, started apologizing saying it was my first time there, and she just hastily gestured me away from the counter saying, "sorry have a nice Day" (it was 6pm in the evening) with her eyes on the floor. The bottom line is that it is unethical and really bad for buisiness to embarrass customers like that. I know it is not fully the cashier's fault. Perhaps she was not instructed on how to clearly direct takeout customers, or she was just really busy helping the newbie. Or was it the cook's job behind the counter to call out my name, or at least make some eye contact with me as I stood there waiting attentively? It appeared to me that this is one disorganized franchise. Next time, I will go elsewhere for a gourmet burger. read more

Overpriced mediocre food. The "Big" burger was no more than 6 ounces so I'm guessing the "Reg" size isn't much bigger than a White Castle slider. The fries were waaaay too salty and are too thin to eat easily. A bottle of water for $2.29?! C'mon. $14 wasted on lunch. read more

Ok so I just order but I have a problem already...there's a cook with long hair down to he's back and he's not wearing any hats or hairnet...what makes it worst is that he flips he's hair around every time he moves he's head. My first time there and my last time! My experience was pretty bad. The place wasn't even busy. They gave me the wrong order...twice! And the last time they came out with the wrong burger I told the person who gave it to me that it was wrong. He went to the back and came out 10 seconds later with a burger in the plastic container..I looked at it and said "what did they do just take the other stuff off?" He replied "yes". By the look on my face you could tell I was disappointed. He then asked "did you want a freshly made burger??". I enjoyed my burger . They were speedy in getting my food out to me and with a soda and fries i paid like 12 bucks .... The fries are thin and i can't shovel as many in my mouth at one time making for more effort on my part..... I wouldn't take advice from anybody who orders chicken at a burger joint . I don't live close to a smash burger, however I ordered from the online website. My pick up time had said 7:45. I took the 30 minute drive to Menlo. No complaints so far. We pull up to the mall at 7:30. My husband finally decides to go in at 7:40 while I was in the car because the baby was asleep. (Ok let me get back on track) as my husband is on the line (pick up order line) I am texting him to make sure he knows where to go etc. he's standing there and the lady is calling out other people's name. "Keith", "John", "etc" ... None which are my husband. It is now 7:55... (10 minutes after the schedule pick up) my husband said the lady never asked him once if he needed help or was being helped) he was the only one online at this point... Standing there for more then 20 minutes now. He isn't talkative much.. So i decided to give the restaurant a call because it is now 8:15. When I call the lady I ask her if everything was ok with our online order because my husband has been waiting for a half hour. She proceeds to tell me all online order has been picked up. I said can't be, I have my confirmation and my husband is on line waiting. I hear her talking to a another lady saying , what's the online bag there say? And then she tells me she will find my husband. Ugh so frustrating. He finally comes out and we drive our way back home to eat semi cold food. When I get home, I look in the bag, and of course my sons drink for his kids meal isn't there.. Greeeeat. All that and now a almost 3 year old who's been waiting patiently for his drink. This Smash is the dirtiest! Smells stink! Manager should be ashamed of this place. I've been to the one in East Brunswick and will go back there but not this place. Dirty old rag they use to clean tables smells horrible. Sorry but my dining experience was overshadowed by the horrible horrible did I say horrible smell??? Can't get over it. Horrible. S M E L L. Went to the brand new Smashburger in Menlo Park and it was awesome! My husband ordered a classic cheeseburger and fries and he loved it. Now, I watch my weight so I don't order cheeseburgers, so I had a spinach and goat cheese salad with balsamic dressing and it was great! I eat a lot of salads, grilled chicken, veggie wraps and it all gets old. This salad was above the fray. Can't wait to go back to Smashburger. read more

I went to this location on Tuesday May 26th 2015 around 2PM. The customer service was really good but the food was absolutely HORRENDOUS!!! It should not have been even called food. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and it legit tasted like nothing. The chicken was burned and all I could taste was the nasty bun. I lost my appetite for lunch. My girlfriend ordered a burger and she hated it. I even asked the neighboring table and they hated their food as well. We were very excited to get smash burger but not anymore. Service was very great and quick when they opened but unfortunately it has gone downhill along with the quality of the food. Some days the food seems to take forever even when the restaurant isn't busy and they're understaffed. This is not particularly somewhere I frequent. The burgers in my opinion aren't all that great but my sister likes it so when I come here it's because I join her. Whatever. I was here tonight and the food was its regular mediocre but the reason I am reviewing this Smashburger location is because of how unprofessional the employees were. This location is inside Menlo Park mall and closes at 9:30. My sister and I walked in at around 9:20 (I know I know) but in my defense we weren't the only ones on line at that time placing orders the place was quite full with people. At around 9:28 the employees starting asking each other (quite loudly) "can I lock up?! I'm locking up" and at 9:29 exactly a loud voice from the kitchen says "lock the door!!!!" In front of customers super unprofessional. Ok I have never been in the food service industry but I can imagine being on your feet all day making burgers and taking orders can be tiresome but it's no excuse for being unprofessional in front of your customers. Try and make it less obvious that you are ready to smash your last gross burger and go home...at least for the customers sake. read more

Love Smashburger and this is a new location so service is really good. Food was fresh and really like the sweet potato fries. Hand spun milkshakes nice too. Only complaint is the ceiling is low resulting in it being very loud, especially when it's crowded. Can be a long wait ion weekends. read more
