GROSS! When I picked up my order and was leaving, I saw a receipt on the floor and thought it was mine. It was someone else's... and SOAKED in grease. I was repulsed. By the time I got my bag of two burgers out to the car in less than a minute, the bag was leaking grease! I brought it to work and gave the one burger to my coworker. I opened the wrappings on my burger. It was SWIMMING in GREASE!! I took a bite and realized I probably would get sick from it. I loved this place. The burger was delicious. Not too salty, not too greasy and a good size. Fries were also delicious. Not salty or greasy either. Nice and crisp. The service was very friendly and there was no wait. I read some not so great reviews below, but I had a great experience. I would definitely give this place a shot. I don't know why some of the other posts on here are so bad. Personally, this Smashburger has literally the BEST burger I've ever eaten. Bar none. We were stoked that this new restaurant was opening in New Providence, and on every occasion we've been, it hasn't let us down. Great burgers. Awesome fries. Fantastic shakes. And the fried pickles are incredible. The Swiss Mushroom Burger and BBQ Bacon burgers are by far my favorites, but the classic burgers are amazing as well. The service has always been fantastic for us. Fast, friendly, and hot fresh burgers right off the grill. The price is more than you'll pay at McDonald's, but the quality is far superior to anything you'll get at McDonald's, too.. (Someone complained in these reviews that the 1/2 lb burger was expensive. Give me a break - half a pound of beef is like picking up a package of ground meat at the supermarket. If you're ordering a giant burger, of course it's going to cost more.) Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I have been to a Smashburger exactly 2x. The first time was at a different location. Based on my food experience there, I didn't think I would ever return. Last night I was famished and wanted something quick. The staff is always friendly and quick. The food is not so great. This time I ordered the NJ Burger 1/2 pound. It was put on the same size bun as a 1/3 so literally half the meat was hanging off the sides. It was very, very greasy, burger was well done, toppings didn't mix well (crumbled blue cheese and bacon -- which was nearly burnt and still rubbery). The fries were average yet oily as well. The burger, after one bite, fell apart and most of the toppings fell out. I don't consider myself a burger expert however I do know how to handle one. This was un-handleable (not a real word but you get the gist). I still think Five Guys is better quality, less greasy and fries are much better. Prices are the same ($10-12 for a burger, fries, soda). 2x and probably my last. read more

Ah man the Avocado Club Burger and Sweet Potato fries were delicious! They put just the right amount of sauce on the burgers (enough to taste with each bite but not enough for it to spill all over the place). Our family enjoyed every part of their meal. People talk this place up a lot. In fact so much that I decided I had to take my wife on a crazy road trip just to try it out. Perhaps my perspective on the food here is a little skewed just because I had some crazy expectations. The food was really just okay. I don't know how to put this but it tasted like a competent Wendy's. You know that Wendy's that is by every college campus? Where it's staffed by sixteen year old potheads and they could care less? The food at Smashburger is more like the food at the Wendy's by the lifestyle center where the soccer moms take their kids. Yes I meant what I said. After years of Five Guys we decided it was time to try Smashburger. The service is quick, and the employees friendly. The fries with the catchy "Smashfries" name are truly nothing special, just frozen shoestring variety; they were not very crispy, not a thick cut, and certainly not different than what I can make at home from a package. The burgers were good but again nothing out of the ordinary. The worst part of our visit was the cleanliness. There was food and napkins, etc on the floor under our table and actual french fries sitting in the lighting over our table, and it looked like they'd been there a while. One table needed busing was filthy with a cleaning rag on it the entire time we were there. We are hoping it was just an off night and will give it another try at some point but I can't convince my kids to go back for now, they also liked Five Guys better. Smashburger has potential because their atmosphere is nicer than 5G. WiFi was so bad we turned it off-It couldn't even load their own Smashburger web page LOL. Nice alternative to McDonald's or five guys. Cooked to your order, so you know it's fresh. Good burger. Not the best though. Fries are why I'd go back. Rosemary or some herb is used. Very tasty. Crisp. Overall nothing to go out of the way for, but if in the area, it trumps mcd's, Wendy, etc. def a step up from typical burger stop. Think of it as the pandora of burger joints. Our office was so excited when we found out Smashburgers would open in the same shopping center as our office. Only to find out that after being open about a month...they still seem to have NOT worked out the gliches. Service is so darned slow. The first time I ate there was a day or two after the grand opening. At that time, it seemed reasonable that the service was slow. But after being open about a month, I still waited 17 mintues for an overcooked burger and limp burnt-tasting sweet potato fries. What a disappointment! When a 1/3 lb burger and an order of fries costs you $8.54, you expect the service and the quality to be more than acceptable...it was neither, far from it. Additionally, a soiled rubber glove was on the floor right inside the door to the kitchen which was in plain sight from the patrons who were waiting for take out orders. We watched the staff (including managers) observe and ignore the glove, which was bypassed at least 20 times by various staffers.One staffer even pushed it aside with the toe of his shoe, then continued to walk over/past this rubber glove. When I FINALLY got my order and left, that dirty rubber glove was still on the floor. YUCK! I remember how excited we were when this place opened a few years ago. The food was delicious, especially the hot dogs. Fast Forward to tonight and things have changed. First off, they got rid of the hot dogs. WHYYYYYY??????? Second, the minute we walked I said to my brother, why does it smell like that in here? It seriously smelled like a dirty locker room. We stood at the register waiting for someone to take our order. There were 2 people making milkshakes directly behind the counter and then this guy finally came over to take our order. I felt bad for him since it seemed like he was doing everything, taking the orders, handing out the orders, bringing the food to tables. The food itself was soaked in grease after only a 5 min drive home. Stopped in Smashburger with my dad today for lunch...I wasn't expecting much, but this place was great. I had the black bean burger with grilled onions and BBQ sauce with regular fries and it was so delicious. Will be going back with my husband this weekend! Thrilled to find a good veggie burger! The menu can be a little confusing and takes sometime to understand it all. I thought the burger was above average and the enjoyed the regualr egg roll the placed it on. They have many options for building your own burger. The place is clean and you can refill your own Coke product drinks. The fries reminded of the type you get a McDonalds. For their milkshakes they use premium Haagen Daz ice cream..can't beat that. All in all I would recommend and I will be visiting again. read more

First and last time at Smashburger. Made the mistake of ordering to go without checking bag. The Smashchicken was not good. Strange translucent chicken patty deep fried to almost black. Unchewable. Thin tomato slice looked and tasted like it was bleached with Clorox. Lettuce leaf mostly stem with brown edges. All sloppily thrown together on a pretty good bun. I actually threw it away. Best smash burger burger I've ever had. I usually get the spinach cucumber and goat cheese burger and always felt they go light on the goat cheese. Not this time. Also, the 2 staff members that helps add were so professional and insist on service. Even came by twice clearing tables asking if everything was ok. Burger is good but service is hit or miss. Watch out if your host is James. He never gave me everything I ordered. Even today when the store is not busy. We ordered two haystack onion rings and a triple burger but guessed what ... only one dipping sauce! And my last time experience with James- he didn't give me smash fries and no sauce for haystack pinion! Love the friendly staff. The food isn't cheap, so save it for a "treat." The avocado chicken club is excellent. Try the Fried Pickles, sounds gross, yet you will be pleasantly surprised. My first burger came out raw and it looked like it was dipped in a grease bucket. The replacement was very greasy and didn't have any cheese, but not raw. When I got my replacement, the guy at the table next to me showed the server that his burger was the same. The manager was not happy with me for complaining and wouldn't show his face. I've seen some reviews that say this location is hit or miss. That's fair. The burger is never bad, but some days are better than others. The buffalo fries here aren't great. They're surprisingly salty. The smash fries are always good, though. Never took a burger home, but the bun would probably be kind if greasy/soggy if I did, so I'd suggest eating there. read more
