I FOUND MY FOREVER DENTIST!! I've been going to another dentist for many years who recently retired and sold the practice. The new dentist recommended evasive work for some minor chipped front teeth. At that point I knew I needed a 2nd option and a new dentist. Thank goodness I went to Smile Creations! Dr. Heck has excellent bedside manners and I couldn't have asked for a better dentist to handle my care! He had options and those didn't require evasive work. I saw him Tuesday and went back on Wed. Referred by my adult daughter. She knows my phobia of dental work keeps me from routine maintenance and I only go if an emergency. I have said, I would rather give a speech naked than have dental work...but, alas.. old ladies teeth cave if not maintained, like one of mine did today. Dr. Heck's office staff is stellar! I was worked in for an emergency visit within hours of calling. From making the appointment by telephone to payment explanation and recommendations for a permanent fix, every single person in the office was professional, polite reassuring and did their very best to help me feel at ease. Huge personal accomplishment today. Brand new to the practice. I would have normally rescheduled my cleaning today several times before actually showing up. My hygienist was so great! I was absolutely 100% impressed with everyone at this office. Dr. Heck as well as the staff were kind, informative & on top of things. I called them with a semi-emergency in the afternoon & was scheduled for 7am the next day. One thing that really stood out for me was when Dr. Heck was going to start to work and presented the dental dam. All I had to say was "Oh" and he asked me if the device made me feel uneasy or claustrophobic. When I said "yes" he immediately put it aside, which made my experience 100% better. I had no idea going in there if I was going to need an extraction, crown or even a bigger procedure. I was impressed that he examined, and told me he wouldn't feel good about giving me a crown, and that he could repair without any extensive (or more expensive) work. I have been a patient at Smile Creations for years now and was skeptical when Dr. Calvert left, but thought I would give the new Doc a chance. I am glad I did. Dr. Heck is very personable and knowledgeable. Going to the dentist isn't something you look forward to, so I am thankful that Dr. Heck and his team were able to ease my mind. This location is convenient and they allow me to bring my daughter with me when I get my teeth cleaned. They have always been very sweet to her even though she is not a patient of theirs. They open at 7 am on some days and this allows me to make an appointment before I go to work. The entire staff, from front office to Dr. Heck, is friendly and welcoming. read more

UPDATE 5.19.16: Dr. Heck contacted me by phone and email. He also wrote a long letter. I am revising my review based on his continued effort to improve my experience. I do not feel compelled to remove my previous review because it was an honest report of what happened from my perspective. But it's obvious he cares enough to try and correct things. In Dr. Heck's communication he acknowledged that I was overcharged $91 for X-rays and a check was sent to me for reimbursement. He also said he wouldn't charge me the $21 for fluoride, and said that his staff should have asked for my consent before giving it to me, but I am not sure if I've been reimbursed for that or not yet (it may be buried in a credit card statement somewhere, I dunno). As for the assessment, he explained in detail why he recommended everything. I think he was being sincere and making an appropriate diagnosis. My issue wasn't really with his expertise, it was more about the charges and service. I did forget to mention in the original review that between the cleaning and his exam I waited just under a half hour. I know because after about 10 minutes I started timing it. At about 20ish minutes of wait time I walked into the hallway and said I needed to leave and I'd have to complete the exam another day. The hygienist notified him and he came in another 5 minutes or so later. I know doctors are busy, but my time is valuable too, and it isn't the first time I've had to wait for doctors. They did get me in on time for the start of my visit, so maybe he had an unforeseen issue and I had to wait. I'm not going to hold that against them, but it's still a bit of a pet peeve for doctors in general. Take my review however you will. He might be an excellent dentist and maybe I had a bad experience - or maybe my review helped improve their procedures and customer experience. Or maybe not, I don't know? I'm still not likely to find out and plan to see another local dentist in the area. read more

Wonderful husband and wife dentistry practice with a great team supporting them! My love and I both have had the full and thorough imaging, examination and cleaning. All was done in the most respectful and NONinvasive way, treating you like a human and not a number! B even had some work done involving a drill and came home with a smile in no pain. I went back to have my TMJ examined, everything was explained to me in a non clinical way that was very easy to understand what happened and where we can go from here. I am beyond happy with my choice of dentistry team! I feel like they actually care about us as people and that can not be said about other places I have gone before! read more

I was referred to Smile Creations and Dr. Matthew Heck by my sister and I am beyond pleased with this practice. Upon first meeting Dr. Heck, he took a few minutes just to get to know me...basic stuff like where I'm from, what I do, etc. It was so refreshing for a doctor to take an actual interest in his patient and not judge me for putting a hashtag in my new patient paperwork. He also didn't get preachy when I told him that the only time I floss is after eating popcorn. Natalie at the front desk is all smiles and super friendly. She didn't mind listening when I word-vomited all over the place about how terrified I was about getting a root canal and how happy I am now that I can eat cold things again and how my summer was almost ruined because I couldn't eat refrigerated watermelon. Laura, their awesome financial coordinator, after my initial exam provided me an itemized treatment plan and the respective cost of each service. They are extremely transparent in their billing and payment expectations so I am never surprised by my total at the end of the appointment. She also totally gets it when I'm like, "Can we do that next month when I'm not impoverished?" Reef did my periodontal work. The thing about Reef is that he's kind of dreamy. I'm high-strung, and when I say that, I mean I have literally zero chill. His mere presence chills you out and that's a pretty big deal. He is super gentle, patient, and just plain pleasant. Bobbie and Dixie are also a joy...they're candid, very personable, and fun to be around. They'll joke with me about how ProFresh mouthwash tastes like pool water, and they answer all my spastic, paranoid questions with grace. Going into my first appointment, I was pretty frightened because I have had moderate to severe anxiety about the dentist for the entirety of my adult life. Consequently, I hadn't been to a dentist in over a decade and I pretty much only made the appointment because I had been suffering from tooth pain and sensitivity for a few weeks. Needless to say, I required some extensive restorative work done. I am not yet finished with all of it, however I can say that my anxiety has abated significantly since coming to Smile Creations and my teeth already look and feel worlds better than they did before. #progress All in all, this is a fantastic team and I cannot recommend them highly enough! Dr. Heck and his staff are fantastic. The office visits are easy! I had some major work on my front teeth last year. It was an emergency situation, and Dr. Heck was happy to work me in the same week. The work done is seamless with my natural teeth. Best of all, a year later it's still holding strong.
