I'm an avid dip powder girl, it lasts the longest and provides the strongest protection for all the sewing work I do with my hands. Jack had a precise eye and a gentle hand when he does nails. My nails came out utterly flawless, super lightweight ( ladies know when it's too thick) and super shiny! He even spruced up by coffin shape to a classic almond shape. It was so mystifying to watch him perfect the shape! Art! Everyone that works here is beyond kind and welcoming even when they are super busy. I didn't see them turn a single walk-in away. WARNING CONTEXT BELOW MAY UPSET SOME VIWERS ! I came to Smile Nails & Spa on Feb 27th for the first time. I was greeted by both Nancy & Jack the owner of this business! I came to this place because of all the wonderful reviews they had. My experience quickly changed when I went in for a pedicure hoping to leave with pretty feet ! Same day I left this place I notice both my feet were red & stinging . 3 days later I notice my left foot was swollen.I noticed a blister on my left foot Toe . The pain was unbearable , I wasn't able to walk on it. I went to two different doctors, and both confirm I had contracted a Bacterial infection due to the pedicure this business did on me ! I ended up catching Staphylococcus Aureus . When I went back to speak to both Nancy ' Jack regarding the problem, at first they seem to be willing to help , they asked I brought in medical paperwork. I went back a week later with my medical paperwork. This second time they both started to act like they didn't know who I was , and they went as far as trying to extort me with the wrong signing sheet . They both kept asking I left my confidential information with them & kept refusing to give me the name Of their insurance! These people are dishonest, They are not sanitizing their equipment they are using on their clients! I am writing this in hopes of helping other people not go through the same experience i went through with this business! I am seeking this business take accountability for their mistake! And pay me back for all my medical expenses since I don't have health insurance, I lost work , time , money & the the emotional distress this business has left me with ! Due to this horrible and emotional experience I've in counter with this business, now I can't wear my Sandals, or open toe shoes because my feet are damaged! I have PTSD , from this now . I hate to leave this review, but no. I went here out of convenience a few weeks back because I was already in the shopping center and happened to have my nail polish in my backpack, having intended to go elsewhere that was further away. I figured, "oh I'm here, let me just take care if this now." I am a musician/DJ so it's important my hands stay nice looking and nails well groomed in case they are photographed or zoomed in on during video of my performances or streaming. I also have a strange combination of neurological motor function illnesses which has made fine motor skills like writing and polishing my own nails extremely difficult to do well. When I pay others to do it, not something which I can easily afford being disabled, I expect if nothing else to leave with the task at hand being done correctly. I was greeted by a friendly staff. After a short wait, I was escorted to a comfortable chair for my pedicure first, then manicure. Many years ago I used to get acrylics, but in recent years both to save money and spare myself extra chemical load on my body, I only get basic mani/pedi service. I also need to keep my nails short anyway for my keyboard and bass guitar. The pedicure was pretty nice. I received a nice and needed massage. She followed my instructions for polishing well, which for me often includes alternating color toe to toe, adding glitter on top, or some other artsy thing. The other patrons and I engaged in pleasant conversation and it was guessed by another nail technician that I was a musician. Both the staff and patrons were excited and complimentary of my appearance and sympathetic to my disabilities. So friendliness, pedicure and overall experience at this point was 5 stars. I wish it had stayed here. By the time she got to my manicure, it was near store closing hour, which I was unaware of. She quickly cut my nails, but didn't ask me the shape I'd like before she went to polishing step. I prefer very short with a slight oval as it prevents nail breakage. I tried to ask but was ignored. To my horror though, before she put on the polish, she took the electronic filing tool out that is used for acrylics or other faux nails and used it on my natural nails causing them to become paper thin. I have never seen this done before on a basic manicure. I thought, maybe she knows something I don't and as I had already tried to correct her once, chose not to again. Prior to polish, I excused myself to go to the restroom. A difficulty being disabled is, often people misguided try to help you move about, but make things worse as don't know or ask how you need to do it. This was one of those times. I have an order in which I move things out of the way, pressure I put on what foot first, etc and her attempts to just jump in and help without asking, "What can I do?" made the process clunky. When I returned from the restroom, my stuff had been slightly moved around (to make things comfortable for me - the intent was not bad) but when I picked up my phone, the screen had a crack that had not been there prior. I was really confused because I had looked at my phone right before going to the restroom and that crack wasn't there. The crack was so bad, I could no longer use my screen to get into my phone to contact Uber for my departure or call anyone. After my nails were polished (the polish looked nice) my technician had to leave in a hurry. However I was stuck there. I asked the other employees for help calling a yellow cab. I was given the phone to call for one, the wait was 30-45 minutes though. It was cold outside and Starbucks, the only available place to wait, was a long walk for my cane ridden self, in the cold with pain. They did however lock up the place leaving me outside in the dark and cold. 45 min later my cab arrived and I went home just trying to remain grateful that I was able to have my hands cleaned up so I would be ready for DJing. The polish lasted maybe 3 days before gigantic chipping occurred, which is about 3 days shorter than I'm used to (using same brand of polish since I bring my own) before minor chips occur. After I removed all the polish at home a week later, I was really sad to see the destruction to my nails from the electronic filing tool. My nails are now very flaky, brittle, and have lines in them. I plan to restart my collagen supplement to hopefully grow out this damage very quickly, but this is a total disappointment. So needless to say, the latter half of this long review explains my two stars and why I won't be returning. A bit upset I didn't go to my regular place. I do wish this place the best and hope my review can be viewed as a growth opportunity for both dealing with disabled clientele and proper care of natural nails. Thank you. read more

I heard by mouth this was such a great place. My husband was well taken care of, and enjoyed his pedicure. However, I really didn't. After waiting about 15 mins to start mine, I got a 3 minute foot soak, basic cleanup and then gel polish. My artist spent two minutes massaging each leg and that was it. Being new to the Oceanside area, I'm still on the hunt for a nail place that I truly enjoy. I saw that Smile Nails had a decent Yelp review and it was close by where I live. I was able to make an appointment easily over the phone. Keep in mind they are closed on Mondays. I needed a dip removal, dip manicure, extensions, and a regular pedicure. It had been weeks since I got my nails done so they were seeing me at my worst. Nancy did my pedicure and Mandy, who seemed to be the manager of the place helped a little bit with my manicure and then she had to leave and Nancy finished it. My pedicure was lovely and looked great. My manicure ended up looking OK, it took a very long time and at the end it seemed like there was way too much dip polish. It came out very thick and also a little bit more square than I like. To be fair, I did ask for ombré which does require many layers of dip and that is likely what made the experience longer as well. She did check with me to see if the shape and the length was OK, but I didn't notice until later how much more square shaped they were than what I really wanted. Overall, this is was a good experience. The place is pretty clean, the prices are somewhat reasonable, they do charge you for every ad-on that you do,though. Although they advertise as walk ins welcome, I would still recommend making an appointment since every person who walked in had to wait because they only had two people working there. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment. I would return here. I really liked Mandy she had a great personality and management skills. Nancy did a great job on my toes. Told the guy I wanted them shorter just not past my fingertips. He files them down to nubs to where my fingers were hurting the next couple of days. Continuously told him to stop and eventually that I wanted to leave. He continued to grab my hand back until another guy came over like he was going to fix it and kept telling me that it was okay. The gentleman told me that my nail artist didn't speak any English and that I need to speak louder next time so the other employees could hear and then told me my nails look fine. Not to mention it was the wrong nail color, but I'm not too picky about color as long as the nails actually look good and didn't hurt. I actually started crying in the salon. He gave me the total amount due and I was so mortified and embarrassed by crying that I didn't even argue. Paid the total without tip and left. Decent place to get your nails done, but there were several issues during our visit. 1. I asked for an ombré look without having to do powder because I prefer my natural nails. They seemed unsure of what I was talking about and sort of brushed off my requests. I had to asked three times if it was doable and even showed photos from their own Yelp page. The manager (possibly owner) was rude and basically said they didn't have the brush needed to achieve the ombré look. I went forward with a basic nail coloring despite my own expectations because it was super awkward at that point. 2. My pedicure and manicure was decent, nothing too exciting. Loi was nice and his work was adequate. 3. The place is decently clean. 4. The prices are inflated and not worth the overall results. 5. They could improve their customer service. They were curt, somewhat. They might have been annoyed because they were busy, but that's no excuse for the treatment we received. read more

Soooo I found my new place for gel nails and I am BEYOND HAPPY! I called the today (3/15/18) around 3:15 for 2 pedicures and 1 gel mani, and I was able to get an appointment for 4:30, awesome! The place is a little tricky to get to, so he explained directions to me which was very nice!!! We arrived at 4:15 and he (assuming the owner) took us to our pedicure stations to soak within 5 minutes. My boyfriends pedicure was so fast and simple, I feel that $20 was a little much considering they literally only cut his nails and a mini massage, but he enjoyed it. For my pedicure I got the $3 special, $28 because I wanted calls removed. My girl was awesome! Took her time and I loved It, she didn't speak much English so they turn to someone else for translation. My manicure was started with the lady who did my mans toes, and I was told Cathy would be doing my nails so I asked for clarification and the owner came over and told the girl to leave and she was pretty rude anyways ‍. Please avoid wasting your money here I promise you will regret it, 2 weeks ago I would've never posted something like this about the establishment or the people that work here but it is under new management! I went in for two pedicures, myself and my friend and it was an unpleasant experience, this lady did not know how to remove gel, she kept hitting my skin, then she cut them WAY too short and she put like 5 coats of gel. It doesn't shine, it looks like one of those press on stickers on my feet I'm pissed, also kept asking her to show me the the gel nail colors and she kept like holding it off like I take my time looking, she wanted to hold off till she was ready to paint. Also to clean up when she messed up on painting my toes with gel she decided to scrape it off my skin with a tool you use to dig out dead skin, yeah NO! Like use the brush it's a lot more gentle, but whatever still kept my cool. And My friends nail polish already chipped the night of, this was my go to spot I finally found but now onto the search of another nail salon. I got these done for my ball this Saturday on a Wednesday and by Thursday this is what they looked like..
