FAIL The restaurant doesn't meet basic hygiene rules set forth by Palatine Village nor Illinois Department of Public Health. Items consumed and not enjoyed. A half serving of egg drop soup (bland and unappealing til I add tons of sauce) And a way too strong zombie. The only thing good about it was how strong it was and that it didn't taste of alcohol. Didn't touch the orange chicken. Soon as I saw the dirty glassware I Diney Dashey'd and make my date pay for the lousy dinner. Update: Whatever liquors they're using for the zombie are dirty alcohol. Omg so much good food! Everyone had their own food plate. We all had leftovers about 10 lbs of food still in our fridge

We loved going to Heng Wing but after last Sunday we will never be back. Ordered take out and it was awful. The beef dish had a foul taste to it, we couldn't even eat it. The rice was very good but the Chinese mustard was like water, no heat to it whatsoever, if you can't even make the mustard right , you know the food isn't going to be good. The Kong pow chicken was so hot all the girls couldn't eat it, the guys also had a hard time. Egg rolls were just meh, Very disappointing. They gave us an appetizer we didn't order and they charged us for it! I will look for a different place in the future. read more

We have not gone for a few years but decided to revisit. We had an early mid week dinner and really enjoyed the traditional American Chinese meal. We thought the prices were super reasonable compared to many other current dining experiences. Where else can you get a basic large glass of wine for $7? The house soup Yang wonton for 2 was $12.50 and was full of goodness and enough to feed actually 4 people. Service was polite and attentive. Heng Wing Restaurant is hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time! The Crab Rangoon is out of this world--crispy on the outside, creamy and flavorful on the inside, easily the best I've ever tasted. And don't even get me started on the Piña Colada--smooth, perfectly balanced, and refreshingly tropical. I honestly didn't expect to find a drink this good outside a beach resort! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the service is fast and friendly, and everything I tried was fresh and full of flavor. If you're anywhere near the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. Heng Wing: What A Spectacular Return. I'm back in! And here's why. As many of us know, there was an ownership turnover a few years back. Like many others in these reviews, I was not impressed at the time. Subsequently, I had stayed away from Heng Wing for quite some time but finally decided to give it another shot, just to see if those eggrolls I remembered were truly gone forever. To my astonishment, everything is spectacular once again. Our family had been regulars here since the 1980s. So we're very familiar with what it was, in order to compare it to what it is now. Frankly, this is about as close as you're going to get to the old-style Cantonese cuisine that so many of us have grown to love. As soon as we sat down, we were immediately served a pot of tea. When we ordered for the table, we chose our traditional Dinner for Four, which included: * Wonton Soup or Egg Drop Soup, * Assorted appetizers such as Egg Rolls, Bar-B-Q Ribs, and Cantonese Fried Shrimp. Of course, I had to be the "wrench in the spokes" and ordered a Hot & Sour Soup, which wasn't part of the dinner. However, the waitress kindly allowed the substitution. Something not typically done. Which I greatly appreciated. On that note, the Hot & Sour Soup was outstanding: packed with ingredients, full of flavor, and absolutely top-tier. When the appetizers arrived, I finally got to enjoy the egg rolls I'd been craving for so long. It's hard to find egg rolls like these anymore: old-school, crispy, crunchy on the outside, and HOT, chewy, and stuffed with deliciousness on the inside. While the taste was just slightly different from what I remember, it was still 95% of what I was expecting. The barbecued ribs were equally delightful. So incredibly tender and flavorful that I'll definitely return for more. And the mustard. Oh, that mustard! It was so hot, it must have been freshly made that morning. The vapors shot up my nose and paralyzed my brain for a moment, making my eyes flutter like I had just been punched in the nose. It was fantastic! The main course for the Dinner for Four included: * Beef Kow: Incredibly tender, velveted beef in a rich, savory brown gravy with bok choy. * Sweet & Sour Pork: Swimming in a glossy, sweet sauce with pineapple and green peppers. * Shrimp with Lobster Sauce: My favorite. A savory, rich brown sauce with black beans, featuring delicious, plump shrimp that had a satisfying snap. * Chicken with Broccoli: Tender slices of chicken breast and perfectly cooked broccoli that was vibrant green and crisp, all in a light white sauce. * Roast Pork Fried Rice: Moist, not dry, with pork strips, scallions, and vegetables like carrots and bean sprouts. Simply the best fried rice I've had in such a long time. Everything was absolutely mouthwatering, flavorful, and flawless. We finished the meal with the traditional fortune cookies and almond cookies, which provided a nostalgic end to the meal. The portions were enormous. With the four of us, we Barely made a dent in it it, so of course we took everything home. The leftovers turned into another dinner for four the next day. And I even got another serving or two after that! In all, we enjoyed nearly 10 meals from that Dinner for Four. So, Yes. As with everywhere I go, Prices have increased (inflation ), but they more than make up for it with the quantity and quality of the food. We were seated immediately for lunch, and the wait staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly. Everything was served timely, piping hot, and with clean, cutlery and a full assortment condiments. Conclusion: I'm so happy we decided to go back. Just when I had written this off as another beloved restaurant lost to time, Heng Wing has come back and completely redeemed itself for me. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent, and it brought back so many great memories. I couldn't be happier. Rating: 4 1/2 stars. There wasn't a single thing we were unhappy with. read more

This is a local American Chinese restaurant. There are some good dishes on the menu. This is not a destination restaurant, no reason to travel here unless you live nearby. It changed hands a few years back, but after handling complaints returned to some of the original recipes and dishes. Including the pretty good eggrolls (have shrimp in them if allergic). Still my favorite American Chinese in the local area. read more

We have been going to Heng Wing@ for 20 years. We have been there all along supporting them faithfully. We have weathered the downward spiral from the initial owners through to now and the consistent deterioration in quality, of the food and the attitudes of the staff, particularly in carry out. Tonight was the last straw. The mustard sauce tasted like toxic waste. I called and a young man answered and I told him my complaint and he was really wonderful about it. Then we tasted our food. Absolutely subpar! Again I called and talked to the same young man. He said that he did taste the mustard and yes it was not up to par. I explained that our food tasted bland and ill prepared. He did not offer to refund our purchase. We would have gladly brought our uneaten food to him. This is the end, we have tried to hang in there but this was the worst experience to date. We are done with this business. The young man I talked to was very patient and listened well. A big shout out to him. I feel bad that I did not get his name. read more

This is our visit back since the ownership change. This was my wife's family's special event restaurant, they had been coming here for decades. We had "heard" for some locals that it wasn't really Hang Wing anymore and the food wasn't very good. But I had been noticing the newer reviews have been positive, so we came back. I don't have the same relationship as my wife so our experiences differ. First off we got Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoon, both excellent, I think the egg rolls were better than 90% of places around. She thought they were not the same but were fine. We both agreed the Crab Rangoon were pretty great. I got the Hang Wing Chow Fun with was good. I don't understand why more and more places are not properly cooking the noodles. These were very white, not deeply browned with is what makes this style of noodle so good the contrast in textures from the almost crisp outside and the chewy middle. The one thing I noticed was all the dishes had tons of onion, not bad item anything just interesting. Again my wife liked her Mongolian Beef, this one I can say was different, but it was very good. Both dishes for $20 is dollars were a bit light in meat. The inside hasn't changed at all, they still bring out dishes on carts on the same plates. They sill have great homemade sweet and sour sauce as well. The serve was friendly and good. It was an above average experience even if it was different. I'm happy to report the we will now be able to go back and enjoy it again. read more

I've been a customer forever!!!! This is the best in Palatine, Illinois. The egg rolls have the peanut butter additive that most great Chinese upper end restaurants use when making their egg rolls. I've eaten in Chicago; SanFrancisco and in Williams, Arizona at "The Wall". I'm a Chinese connoisseur and I'm very fussy about taste as well as portions. This Heng Weng is one of the best. We are Chicago born citizens, and each time I wanted Chinese I'd eat at Heng wing in Palatine... They also are affiliated with Yen Yen, in Arlington Heights/ Buffalo Grove, Illinois (not far from Buffalo Grove High school). I've since moved out of state and now live in Joplin, MO. This past Thanksgiving 2025, I visited family and my first restuarant I visited was a Chinese one... Heng Wing in Palatine never fails and is still the best. I wish I could move this restuarant to Joplin, MO and prove to Joplin citizens that they have "No Idea" what real Chinese tastes like, and never will until they visit Heng Wing. read more

Heng Wing has been around as long as I can remember. We moved to the area in 1987, and tried it within a year of our move. Before posting this, I want to pony out my comments are based on my preference for foods from other provinces in China. This is not meant to be overly critical of Heng Wing; my comments reflect my personal observations. They are located in downtown Palatine, in an older, stand-alone building with a small parking lot. It seems to be a favorite among locals and their parking lot is generally full. We've been there under a dozen times since then, trying it and waiting for it to improve. They are definitely nice, they have a good menu, and the decor (while in need of updating) is 1960s or 1970s Chinese Restaurant. It is the food that drives us away. I don't know if this is just a preference or if something is off. Their style is Americanized Cantonese. This usually means Chow Mein, Lo Mein, and other mildly spiced dishes in either white or brown sauce. We generally prefer the spicier and more exotic tastes found in Hunan and Szechuan meals. One improvement would be to expand their menu to include options of food from other provinces. Since they do a good business, I understand they have many regulars, and some prefer this kind of food. If my review is an outlier, it is probably me and my tastes, not Heng Wing. read more

I ordered carryout and the order was hot and ready 5 minutes before pick up time. I ordered vegitable fried rice. It was the best fried rice I've had in the area. There were so many vegitables in the rice. Broccoli, carrots, bean sprouts, scallions, tomato, celery, mushrooms etc and egg. It was flavorful and the portion was Xtra large. Had an amazing Christmas Eve meal here, but will share they are always tasty! I am very picky about egg rolls, and this place does them SOOOOO good. Def top 3 egg rolls I've ever had - was extra good with the spicy mustard. I will also share that I love the veggie egg foo young, it's a very generous portion and yummy. To the person posting about waiting on Christmas Eve and taking too long, lol, were you born yesterday? That's how it is when you order food ANYWHERE on Christmas Eve, leaving a poor review for that makes you look like a fool :P my experience calling ahead, was fine, they were very honest about the times and asked to call later, I knew it was tasty so I was willing to wait and call back. A friend who has loved Heng Wing her whole life was excited to introduce me to her favorite Chinese restaurant. We ordered entrees and a crab Rangoon appetizer to share. The crab Rangoon was OK - but there was barely any crab in it at all. I liked my spicy cashew chicken, which was enough for a few meals, but didn't think it was particularly memorable compared to other places. My friend, however, was extremely disappointed in her sweet and sour chicken and the appetizer. She said the restaurant was recently sold to new owners and the food wasn't nearly as good as it used to be. So, I guess this is a mixed review - if you haven't been to Heng Wing before, I'd recommend trying it. I'd personally give it another try. Place is authentic looking, but food is not. Crab Rangoon and egg rolls were great. Be careful as they put peanut butter in the egg rolls so avoid if you have a nut allergy. Sesame chicken was more like tough orange chicken. Thai basil with tofu was a curry when it should have been a stir fry. Full of green peppers and corn starch. Mongolian beef was great. Everytime I have gotten Heng Wing, it has been take out and they are always been pretty quick- within 20 minutes. Their restaurant is clean and staff is friendly. Their parking spaces are a little tight. I ordered the Lo Mein noodles with shrimp with crab rangoon. The quantity is a lot for one person, I think at least 2-3 people can share it but the taste is delicious! During COVID, you can do take out or curbside service. They give you sauces and a bunch of Fortune cookies too but it is great to have leftovers for the next day. I definitely recommend this Chinese place in the Palatine area. read more

I have to tell you about the issue I had tonight with Heng Wing Restaurant in Palatine, Illinois. We have been going to this restaurant since 1999. The food has always been excellent until the new owner took over a few years ago. The food has not been as good. Tonight I went there to order a meal for my husband and me. My husband ordered garlic chicken lo mein and I ordered beef chop suey. We also ordered an order of egg rolls. I got there and was shocked that the driveway and parking for the restaurant was all ice. I asked the person at the takeout window why the lot was not plowed. He said the owner didn't want to pay for plowing the parking area from the snow last Saturday. Seriously???? Most of the people going to the establishment are seniors. Does he want us to break a hip??? Every person that came in for a pick up when they had called and ordered ahead of time was told when they were still working on their orders and the kitchen was backed up and it would take another 20 minutes. Are you kidding me? I waited for 45 minutes. So, I got home and opened our order. There were 3 bite-size pieces of chicken in the garlic chicken lo mein. I am not as upset about the food as I am that they did not clean their parking lot nor sidewalk and I walked in the snow so as not to slip on the ice where others had trampled and drove on. Once upon a time, not too very long ago, I loved their food that the old owner made and he cleaned the parking lot of all snow. This new owner is such a disappointment. After passing and hearing about this restaurant for a couple of years, we finally decided to get some takeout from Heng Wing. It was difficult to decide between the numerous options, but we went with the following: -spicy shrimp: my least favorite dish, too salty -Heng wing lo mein: tasted like buttery noodles -Mongolian beef: this was decent -governors chicken: my favorite of the entrees, most flavorful and tender -egg roll: next time I would opt for the vegetarian option. These are huge and filled well -crab Rangoon: also huge and filled well but way too much Mayo (?) did not seem fully cream cheese based -tofu with vegetables: sauce was too thick Nothing was that special in flavor (no spice either). Portions are good though and not too greasy as many other Chinese takeout can be. read more

Sad to say Heng Wing is not the same. Egg foo young was no where near what it used to be. The bean sprouts in it were overdone and just melded in to the egg patty, whereas they use to have a little crunch to them, and the sauce was just bland. Our combo fried rice was overcooked and literally mushy. The only thing that was still good that we ordered was the crab Rangoon. We had gone to Heng Wing for over 15 years and always loved it, but we were hesitant to go after the ownership changed because we had not heard good things, but we thought wed give it a chance. However our normal restaurant was closed so we tried Heng Wing again especially since they have added more dishes to their menu. Including our favorite Szechuan Chicken. My family and I have been coming here for years! One of the best Chinese food places in town. Heng Wing's sweet and sour sauce is one of my favorite sauces ever. One thing I'd like to address is that I've read many of the bad reviews on here about when they changed ownership, some of the food quality went down and some dishes weren't the same as they were. Some have mentioned that they'll never come back even after being a customer for years but don't know that Heng Wing really has changed for the better and it's really the same as it was before the new ownership. These bad reviews are from about 2-3 years ago during COVID-19 and the ownership change. It doesn't truly represent what Heng Wing is actually like now. My dad and I went here to dine in this evening. The service was great and the food was greater! Delicious, big portions, and food quality was as it should be. I have been coming to Heng Weng for 30+ years and when the ownership changed we stopped coming. After reading the recent review we thought we would give them a try again. Huge mistake. The food has actually gotten worse. Their egg rolls used to be the best in the area, they are now just mush. The sweet and sour pork was over cooked and the pieces of pork were so tiny and hard it had no taste. We had chicken show me in with crunchy noodles, no crunchy noodles. Asked for extra sweet and sour sauce we got extra fortune cookies. Needless to say $75 worth of food and it was awful. This will be our last time going there, very sad read more
