I have very mixed feelings about this business. I've been taking my cars there for over 20 years. Their prices are very good, and I trust that they know what they're doing, and they'll do the work they say they do. These are important factors. Everyone here is very nice as well. That being said, this last time I took my car there, it took them 3 weeks to get it back to me! Granted, I wasn't in a rush to get it, but they didn't call me to keep me posted or anything. They called me about a week into it and quoted me for a dealer part, saying that it was the only one they could find or something, but I wanted an aftermarket part because the issue with the manufacturer part could happen again, and often times aftermarket manufacturers will correct or improve any issues that came up with the manufacturers part. This was one of those situations. So when I told them I could get the part for half the price and explained why I didn't want the dealer part, I asked if they would take care of it or if they wanted me to order the part. They had me do it, which I thought was a little odd, but I did. Not really an issue, but it's worth mentioning since I'm writing this review. This wasn't about the cost for me and if they wanted more money for labor they definitely could have charged me more. I got the impression that he had the impression that I didn't want to pay for the manufacturers part, but that wasn't it at all. I received it 2 days later, but my boyfriend was out of town at the time and wouldn't be back for another 4 days, so without a car I had to wait for him to get back so I could drop off the part. This wouldn't have been an issue if they had just ordered the part themselves. It's not a difficult part to find. It took me 2 seconds with a Google search. Finally, after two weeks I called and they took care of it... 5 days later. What I'm most unhappy about, though, is that they returned it to me with a tear in my leather passenger seat. The interior looks like they used it to move something big and heavy. The leather wasn't in perfect condition to begin with, but the tear and further damage to the interior is unacceptable. There's no reason to take so long to do someone's car without any communication at all while driving it. I filled up the gas tank right before I brought it in, and it was definitely driven some while it was there. It needed a new brake light, so that's not something you really need to drive to listen to or to test. I guess I'll have to find a new mechanic because I won't be taking it back there. They're very nice, and reliable, and the prices are great, but it's more important to me that I get it back in a timely manner, that the mechanic or their employees aren't driving my car and damaging the interior. This isn't an isolated incident. I suggested my boyfriend go to Smith Bros to fix a battery issue and it took them 2 weeks to get it back to him without any phone calls or anything. I assumed they were just really busy or something, but perhaps they're just too busy for our business. I took my car to have new spark plugs and new brakes l put in at Vics in La Crescenta, and they had it done the same day! It wasn't cheap, but it was good work and fast! read more

Took my Tacoma there for alignment and a spacer lift install. They quoted me $100 for alignment and "shouldn't be much for the spacer". They ended up charging me $200 and kept the truck for 2 days. Friday and Monday. After some time a couple of weeks we noticed the wheels were crooked. Went back about 5 weeks later (couldn't get time off earlier) was told to bring it back, couldn't get time off until this morning, arranged for 8:30. After waiting for 15 mins, with no alignment guy nor owner. We just left, took it home and did the alignment ourselves. (We are mechanically inclined) after a good look we Realized they had just installed the spacers and did nothing else. Toe in was 3/4". Pass front 2* driver front 3* positive camber (top out). Non of the alignment cams had been touched nor the tie rods. Tie rods needed 7 turns out pass and 4 for the Driver side. Save your time and take it anywhere else. read more

I should have left as soon as I saw no masks on anyone. However I was masked and stayed in a sort of outside waiting area. Sadly my car was already in the air for an oil change when an employee sat down near me and proceeded to spout all the conspiracies re: Covid. He told me that Florida is doing great for over a year now (I just moved from there 6 months ago). He was a complete Covid denier and I had to ask him twice to stop talking to me. I am a healthcare professional and worked all of 2020 on a Covid unit in Florida. I am still shaking from the interaction. I will never go back. I also have no idea what they actually did to my car as receipt only says "oil change". There is no itemized info on fluid checks, tires, air filter...nothing. I'm not from this part of California and back home (Northern California) I had an awesome mechanic. So since living down here I decided to find a new place to get my car serviced from time to time. I went in for an oil change and just a tune up. The owner I forgot his name but he wears glasses, he comes up to me and greets me and is not wearing a mask, and he sees I have one on. He tells me what's going on and I explain I need an oil change and just a check up for the car and says okay just drive into his shop area. I drive in and there is at least 5-6 people working and no mask to be found and no social distancing. I leave the car to go eat nearby and I come back and the car is parked on the street with the windows rolled down, anyone could have just walked by and reached in. This place and it's employees are a joke. No Covid pre caution taken, and definitely no social distance. Do not give them your business, I'm sure there are better and more fit mechanic shops in the area. read more

We purchased a 1990 Jeep Wrangler 3 months ago and it needed some repairs, so we've been in about 3 times now. Radiator / Starter / injector replacement. Dennis, and the other guys, are always quick to help & answer questions and be honest while doing so. I'm always scared to take in my cars anywhere because I feel as though it's going to cost $$$ in unneeded repairs. But their pricing is great and they're honest! They fix what's broken and don't try throw in a laundry list of issues. This morning I took my car in because I thought there was an issue with the transmission or clutch. They took it for a drive and ran the codes to see what the issue was. Turns out.... the issue was the driver. Yes, me. I'm new to manual driving so they kindly told me there's nothing wrong with the car and it was most likely incorrect shifting of gears. Oops! And it's true, my husband drives it with no issue, so it's me sadly. Anyway, any other place would of tried to tell me I needed some sort of $$$ repair. I mean I did tell them I thought something was horribly wrong! But, I was in and out of there in less than an hour and the jeep runs great & I have peace of mind. It was under warranty and Smith Bros knocked themselves out trying to find and pick-up a replacement part. Once they got the part it was installed in a flash (both times). I went to this location hoping for the best after reading the reviews, however the prior owner of the vehicle had used them for all of the prior work on this car I worked with Dennis throughout the entire process and he was great. My goal was to bring my '89 Blazer into order so it could be used regularly and long distances. The estimate was free; I gave them a deadline and they got all of the work done on time and on budget. Prior to doing the work I called a couple of contacts I have in the used car industry to check the pricing they gave me and they all said the pricing was fair (also the feeling I had when I received the estimate). The car was ready the day they promised it. When driving the car that weekend we discovered a new problem after driving ii for hours. I took it back to them and they fixed it at cost and had it ready again within three days. Was I upset that they didn't catch it the first time --yes; was I happy that they fixed it at cost-- yes. The reason I am still willing to give them 4 stars is that the problem only showed up when the car was hot, this would have required them to complete a 30-40 minute test drive to even notice the problem; I don't know any shop that will do this extensive of a test drive with no notice that a problem existed. One area that this place could absolutely improve on: calling customers back in a timely manner. These guys should hire an office person to answer the phone and remind the mechanics to call customers back. They do call back but its usually significantly later than they say they would. Work they completed: New radiator, new heating core, tighten up steering column, smog, tune-up, distributor cap, gear box. read more

I have been taking my cars there for years. As a female, it is hard to find a mechanic that doesn't try to take advantage of you but these guys are honest. They are not perfect and yes, mistakes have happened. But, I always find that they are willing to make sure my car is the best it can be. Their prices are really competative compared to the dealer and they are always willing to pick me up/drop me off when it is needed. That is hard to find in a small shop these days. My only 'suggestion' is that you always ask them when your car will be ready for pick up so you can plan accordingly. Go and see them. They are good people. read more

I am very surprised to see all the negativity correlated with many of the people's experience, because mine was quite pleasant and fulfilling. Dennis, first off, is a wise cracking jokester. He definitely has a great sense of humor. It was nice to converse about the car and it's problems as well as other topics and life issues. To say the least he's a good-natured person. On the note of service and quality control, I must say he nailed it. He was actually very informative and thorough about explaining each problem that was wrong with my car. The engine leaked oil, the suspension was all kinds of messed up, and a header was cracked. He was very accommodating and understanding of my budget and further helped by getting the best prices on parts. Labor was also very affordable and not outlandishly over priced. To sum up my experience with Dennis and his shop, I was treated fairly and assisted flawlessly! I'd recommend Smith Bros. to anybody seeking genuine service. read more

Never ever go there. A few hundred dollar job turned into a 1200.00 job.. It was their errors!!!!!! That they kept charging me for things and even tried to blame the dealer at times because the looked at it first before it broke down. They kept saying it was one thing then it became another. I supplied the parts and they installed them then said it was my parts that caused the problem. It was not my parts it was them misdiagnosing the problem. They even charged me 14.00 each for $2.00 spark plugs, then charged me for 2 distributor caps at $75 & $65 each. I told him it was not my problem that he made the errors and the owner Dennis got nasty and tried to blame me for their problems and errors not knowing how to fix the car. I would never have taken the car there but it broke down and my partner in a panic had it towed there. Dennis kept telling me after awhile they had to call Mater Mechanic hotline to get help in fixing it since they did not know how. I am sure he found a way to charge me for that. I had a problem with them two years ago when one of their star mechanics did not know how to turn on my AC in my classic car. He hot wired it to the battery to see if it would start and blew up part of the electrical system. He did this in front of me and then Dennis said it was my problem not theirs and told me to take the car away and he even then had the nerve to charge me for his fool blowing up my electronic dash. I had to pay almost 800.00 to have it fixed by another place. They caused a electrical surge go through the system and it shorted out the power regulator for the dash. Before that they worked on my 88 Fiero that was concourse condition and when I came to pick it up the bumper was hit very hard and they took off a lot of paint. When I brought this up to Dennis he said I was trying to get a free paint job from them at first he said he would not pay for the damage. He only changed his mind after I told him we would go to court. Yes, I know I should have never gone back after he hit my car, but I always try to give somebody a second chance. I swore off them after the dash blow up. I did not know my partner was going to have the car towed there. I tried to keep an eye on them but they just kept lying about what was wrong... They just do not know what they are doing. I am sure they can do something OK, but so far I have not found one thing they can do correctly except over charge and over bill for their own problems. I am sure when Dennis see this he will be pissed off, but I have all of the papers to prove this. So if you use them BEWARE!!!!! I went to this place to get my Muffler fix because it was very low. Of course being a woman, I feel that I will be cheated on the price etc. However, I was VERY WRONG. They fixed my muffler. They welder it to put it on its place. They said "ok, you are all set. thanks." If I would have taken it to other places, I would have left not just getting my Muffler done but maybe the entire car. I had been going to Smith Brother's since the late 90s. Over the years, they seemed to treat me well and take good care of me. The last couple of years, they would make mistakes (poor quality control) like lose my oil cap, break a sensor that kept my check engine light on, charge me for a tire rotation and not do it, and most recently, did a wheel alignment and a tire rotation, when I asked their opinion on how my tires were wearing, they told me that they looked worn, but no rush, just get new tires before the rainy months. When I got home, I noticed (while I was checking to see if they really rotated the tires) that the front passengers tire had a large rip down the middle of it with the steel belt sticking though!!! They had just rotated my tires and did a wheel alignment!!! That was it, My wife and I now go to a local mechanic who was recommended by a trusted friend and we love him. Good service I guess, but my family goes there at least once a month, our bills are huge, and the car still sounds like it has a dying animal stuck in the brakes. These guys are horrible repairmen and they don't do their job right; they may be good for a one time thing but if you keep going to them they'll rip you off and your car will "mysteriously" keep needing new repairs. read more
