If you are in this area I highly recommend having dinner here. The food was amazing and it's in a really cool historic building. The night we were there they had live music which was very enjoyable. Our server was very attentive and patient. Appetizers: Arancini with marinara- the arancini were huge and crisp on the outside and filled with melted mozzarella. The sauce was flavorful and not overpowering. Bruschetta: The bruschetta was so refreshing. The tomatoes were perfectly ripe and the bread was delicious. Caesar salad- was a little bland and could've used more garlic and anchovies but wasn't a bottled creamy mess either. Entrees: Lamb Shank- cooked perfectly with mashed potatoes and a medley of mushrooms including king oyster which was a perfect compliment to the lamb Cioppino- so delicious! Filled with tons of great seafood! The broth was very thick and more like a pasta sauce so not traditionally broth like but still would order again Jambalaya risotto- omg this was over the top. Andouille sausage, lobster, shrimp, corn and the perfect amount of spice. I wouldn't change a thing about this dish. Pasta carbonara-super creamy with bacon and corn. Yummy!! Dessert: banana bread pudding was crispy on the outside and super moist on the inside. Could've used some ice cream on the side. We will definitely make this a regular stop whenever we are in town!! read more

The food was ok, nothing to write home about. My group was seated in a lower level room, it was a bit cold. They do not have a full liquor license so only make certain faux drinks. None of the space heaters worked, supposedly an issue with the electrical in that room after the recent rain storms. read more

Second time I had the frutti di mare, which came with mussels, snow crab, and shrimp over linguini in a decadent red sauce. My husband had the seafood risotto which had the same types of seafood and smoky sausage and corn studded in the rice. Great service every time. The restaurant is in the basement and you feel like you're in the mid 1800s with the rustic wood beams and old stone walls. Good local wine list. We went there to celebrate a family event. We have lived in the area for 28 years and had never been there to eat, despite many friends giving it a good endorsement. We were not disappointed. I had the black and white and it was perfectly prepared. My wife and daughter each had the Jambalaya and our son-in-law had the ribeye. We all enjoyed every bite. Over the years we've always had a good experience and great food here, but last night was a disappointment. They didn't have a "full" bar - just certain hard liquors....very odd. They had space heaters, but didn't have the fuel to run them. Dinners were ok, but plates were ice cold, cooling the food quickly. Had a reservation for the cellar for dinner last weekend and almost canceled it because we were still so full from lunch. So happy we decided to be gluttonous because the meal we had at Smith Flat House was incredible! All three of us ordered the black and white so it's the only menu item I can review but it was so so delicious. The filet was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. The garlic mashed potatoes were fluffy and full of flavor, and the prawns and sauce were great as well. I wasn't going to order wine because I was a little underwhelmed by the local vineyards on the trip but so glad I had a glass of the cabernet sauvingnon because it was so good! When we arrived to Smith Flat House on time for our reservation, we were told that we would have to wait approximately 20 minutes for our table. Supposedly men had mined for gold and crystals underneath the place back in the mid-1860s. It was like being transported back in time. We recently rented the Glasshouse for my wife's 70th Birthday. What a great venue. The glass allows for an outdoor feel while keeping the cold where it belongs, outdoors. Dinner in the cellar was cozy, romantic and a truly special space to enjoy fine dining. The food was flavorful, unique and delicious. The wild mushroom bordelaise is pure, delicious, joy. We hit up Smith Flat House while in Apple Hill this past weekend. This was our second trip here after first finding the place last November and couldn't say enough great things about the place. Unfortunately, it wasn't as great as the first time but still enjoyable. We sat in the cellar which had a really cool vibe, especially with the trio playing live music! The server was very nice and accommodating, offering a sampling of a wine before we decided to purchase the bottle. We had some questions and modifications which I understand can be annoying for some. She took them in stride and did a nice job with them. Now the food... we started off with the Wild Mushroom Bordelaise. This was by far our favorite part of the meal. The dish was so full of flavor, very deep, rich marsala flavors with grilled bread to soak up the goodness. We also had a house salad which was very nice. My wife had the Butternut Squash Risotto for dinner. She has a serious aversion to sage so we asked our server how it was prepared and if it was possible to omit the sage emulsion. She replied that the sage emulsion was just drizzled on top and that omitting it wouldn't be a problem so that's what she ordered. The dish came out with a ring of what appeared to be cream around the edge... and no sage so that was good. We couldn't tell for sure what the liquid was for sure, it just appeared to be liquid that wasn't completed incorporated into the risotto. Could have been by design? The dish was also missing the candied pecans which would have complimented the dish. For me, I ordered the Black & White, their version of a surf and turf. The menu states that it comes with slow-roasted baby heirloom carrots but the photo of the dish on the menu (on their website) shows it with asparagus instead. I asked our server to confirm the vegetable because I don't like carrots. She said that it is for sure carrots and offered to swap with something else (they did not have asparagus). I opted for brussel sprouts since I saw it was on the menu with another item. The dish came out and at first glace, was happy and amazed at the mountain of mashed potatoes. I went straight for the shrimp with the béarnaise sauce. Very flavorful sauce, nicely done. The steak however was overcooked and was missing the demi-glace. Not a deal breaker, I'm alright eating a well done steak even though it's not my favorite. The potatoes were disappointing though. They are advertised as roasted garlic mashed potatoes but I didn't get any garlic at all. In fact, they were dry, lumpy, and rather flavorless. Despite the few hiccups, we had an overall good experience witll definitely be back on our next trip to Apple Hill. read more

after 40 years of cooking, eating at his place with friends, I couldn't be more disappointed not only in the quality of the food, and the taste what they did, and did not do for it at the price as well. I ordered my steak medium to medium well not bloody but not well done. I got a very well done steak when they took it back. I got a very bloody bloody scared they couldn't figure it out. Also it was real table salt down to find table salt BURNED my lips for HRS! and to add insult to injury, no one did anything to rectify it!!!!!
