Super delicious! I tried the pulled pork, hushpuppies, baked beans and Brunswick stew--all excellent! I've never had Carolina barbeque before, but the vinegar-soaked meat was yummy, and I loved their ketchup-based sauce. Also, the hushpuppies were some of the best I've ever tasted. Service was also stellar. Everybody in the restaurant was super nice, from helping us decide what (and how) to order, to bringing our food out to us, to constantly refilling our drinks and making sure we had everything that we needed. Tried it twice. First time this location, and it WAS a disappointment. Sorry folks, but this is far from being good barbeque. Mediocre is the best I could call it. Stamey's in Greensboro is many times better on all counts. Second time was in the Greensboro location, and here again, it was only partly better, and that was because we tried the fried chicken. Also had some green beans, hush puppies (served with a chicken order why?), and slaw (a nasty thing). I guess we should have went by the "Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q" in the name on our first visit. Apparently the Barbeque is just an add on to get more sales? Regardless, we have learned our lesson and now only go there for the chicken, and then drop by KFC for the sides. That makes for a good dinner, since the chicken IS better than KFC, and the KFC sides are better than Smithfield. FWIW: Don't order the banana pudding, unless you desire plain old made out of the mix pudding with a banana flavoring. I order a combo platter with tenders, I ate so much like a puppy with a dog food bag that I was in a food coma for two days, I almost had to call out of work over 12 dollars worth of food if even. If you want a good night sleep go on ahead and order that combo. It was to good. read more

My friends and I were traveling to Myrtle Beach en route from Chapel Hill (Go Tar Heels!), and decided to frequent one of my favorite North Carolina chains as Smithfield's is a quintessential stop for the true authentic North Carolina experience. This particular location did not disappoint, and certainly on par with the other locations I have been to (Durham, Fayetteville, Raleigh). I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich with coleslaw on the sandwich, North Carolina style with a side of hush puppies to share, and my friends ordered the same as well as a sweet tea. The sandwich was bursting with intense flavors and alluring aromas, and bathed in the signature NC style vinegar-based BBQ sauce. The hushpuppies are cornmeal based batter and fried to perfection, with each bite more delicious than the last. The combination of the BBQ chicken in conjunction with the hush puppies provides two masterful palette experiences that run and swirl together, amplifying each other's flavor. I appreciate the service, and though it is fast-food in the traditional sense, the southern charm that goes into making our visit memorable by bringing food to the table and asking if we want refills on our sweet tea. Did not expect this to be good at all. How could barbecue from a chain be any good? And what's with this Carolina style vinegar crap, anyway? I quickly learned to stop asking questions and start shoving food into my face. The drive-thru menu simply listed "BBQ Platter" with no indication of the type of meat or sides offered. So I just ordered the BBQ Platter and awaited my fate. What you get: subtly spicy, vinegary pulled pork, creamy cole slaw, potato salad and hush puppies. And it was all good, especially the meat. I've been mocking the idea of Carolina 'cue for years. Maybe I'd never actually had it? Well if the chain stuff is this good, I can't wait to try the real deal. read more

i came here with my inlaws and wasnt sure what to expect. the ambience is fast casual- you order off the menu on the wall, but then you are seated and served. staff was friendly, though they let me stand and flounder with that menu for a good long while. bbq was tasty, for a chain it was pretty good overall! definitely a fan of the brunswick stew read more

We stopped here starving half to death. The fried chicken, hush puppies, and cole slaw are really good. They had great fries! The Cole slaw is mayo based but not too much and sweet. The pulled pork is okay, but I didn't like the BBQ sauce. Its basically vinegar and hot sauce, not a good flavor to me. The staff was friendly and could answer all our questions about the menu. The menu was simple and the restaurant is very clean. They also have a drive thru and you can call ahead to order. Basically if you from out of town, this is decent place to stop and eat something quick. You can eat for under $10 and a great place for large groups . read more

The plate was amazing and their homemade sauce and Texas Pete hit the spot. That said, if you like southern cooking and you like southern cooking in a clean ,fast food setting this is the place for you. I can't wait to see this chain in the Virginia Market....eastern NC style BBQ, Fried chicken and calabash style fried shrimp!!!!! All very reasonably priced as well.. 4.5 stars no doubt.... Fried chicken is as good as any out there... The eastern North Carolina style barbecue is also very good and well above average. This is more like a fast food joint than an actual barbecue place. The BBQ was not great, they said the sauce was ketchup based but ended up tasting like pure vinegar. The sides looked like they came from Walmart because the potato salad is the exact same brand. The prices are high for the quality of the food, but the service was decent. I've eaten here three times, which is about two times to many. They show it as a 1 dollar sign restaurant but I can guarantee it is greater than that. Using the drive up window two out of three times was better than going inside as I was not impressed with the inside at all. The food in my opinion is overpriced. The chicken had way way to much batter on it and the fries were old and cold. The inside was better, food wise, but the chicken sandwich still seem to have to much batter. Worst lunch experience in over 5 years. We ordered take out since we'd been running errands and wanted to be home for a late lunch. My wife order a chicken tender and fries snack and I ordered a shrimp platter around 1:45 PM on a Saturday. Maybe not the specialty for this chain but regular menu items so I had hopes they would at least be filling. Take out food always carries the risk of being cold and a bit less than the crisp food you expect at a restaurant. We live less than a mile from the restaurant and even "fast casual" food should withstand the time it takes to travel under a mile. The breading on the chicken was bland, tasteless, falling off, and floury. The fries with both orders were soggy, dripping oil, and cold. The tiny shrimp were also breaded in a flavorless, floury batter, possibly the same batter failing to stick to the the chicken, and also cold. The cole slaw sauce was overly liquid and the slaw had large chunks of poorly chopped cabbage. The "hush puppies" were likewise cold and bland. I can't imagine this is typical for any restaurant still in business, much less a regional chain with happy customers. Granted, it was a take away order, on a Saturday afternoon, but I will never even consider eating food from this restaurant again. read more

This was my third time trying the bbq. It was not good at all. The slaw is made with mustard, I have never heard of that before and the potato salad was something I could choke down. I have lived in NC all my life and have never had bbq that tasted so bad. I will not be going to another Smithfields again. Waste of money.
