Dive bar. Dive bar. Dive bar. You've been warned. That's all you really need to know about this place. The bathrooms are usually pretty bad, and they get worse towards the end of the night. They have the smaller size pitchers for around $6, and they only have a few beers on tap. They also have a bar for mixed drinks, but I don't think I've ever had a mixed drink before. Karaoke goes all night, and to tell you the truth it is actually pretty entertaining. There are some people who take it very seriously, and there are some good singers along with the people who should never take the stage. But hey, it's karaoke and everyone has a good time. You just can't say that you've been to Vista if you haven't been to Smitty's. Nothing says Vista more than a grungy, cash only, locals hang out. Every time I'm here there is some sort of blast from the past, whether it's a good or a bad thing. This dive bar is right down the street from my house so it's often the destination of late night drunken plans. If you're looking for a clean kept, trendy place to been seen, try going to PB. We went on a Monday night around 9:00; were able to find seating at the bar. It wasn't crowded and got bartender service right away. By 11:00 the place was totally packed. Pool tables were always being used. Listening to karaoke in between conversations was fun. read more

A wonderful dive bar smack in the middle of vista village. Prime spot for Karaoke. Some really talented singers are known to hangout here. Strange line dancing. Everyone here is a mess, they only take cash, the karaoke selection is bad @ss, and I'm usually the hottest girl there when I go ;-) You definitely come here for the people watching, bad karaoke and strong drinks. Guys, don't expect to find any 'talent' unless your a chubby chaser. I enjoy watching 50 year old ladies get wasted and hit on the marine guys and the fat girls making asses of themselves dancing with each other at the back of the bar. I am a regular at Smitty's Downtown and I have been coming here for 6 years. I have made some of the most amazing friends here and love coming here. The karaoke hosts are amazing and they have a great song selection. The bartenders all are knowledgable and have nice boobs!! The beer selection has really gotten great the last couple years. They have Bass on tap and it is amazing!! The prices are right and it is the place I choose to hang out with my friends at when I am a drinking!! Lol...! Went here, and I must admit that I haven't been to too many dive bars, but I gotta say, this bar is even rougher and skeezer than the bars in Bemidji, MN! That said, the drinks are priced decently, although you won't find any beers from local breweries, and there are three nice pool tables. Another caveat though: two of the pool tables are a bit close together, and close to the bar, so you'll have to really pay attention to bystanders. I do love a dive bar and I also love karaoke. I do remember the good old day's of LJ's cocktails in Placentia, and we owned that karaoke night. Which explains how it is when you are no longer 22, and not a regular at the dive bar that has karaoke night. Less fun for everyone that's not a regular. I didn't even bother putting in my crowd-pleasing version of "Bette Davis Eyes" since I knew that I didn't have a big fan base at Smitty's Downtown LOL We were ID Checked at the door, yay, I feel younger already! It's Cash Only. LAME. Who carries cash? Ugh. Got our first round and left a biggish tip, in hopes that would get us speedy service the rest of the night. That did not work out. Bar got busier....there were 2 chicks working, and one is like 8 months pregnant. So they were not very fast. I got super irritated and walked off after waiting for 10 min, my friend had to take my post and when she came back with the drinks finally, she said "everyone at that bartop is super angry right now" so maybe they should have more staff on a Friday night. GREAT DIVE BAR!!! Recently new to the area of Oceanside.. Come from small town so cash only dive bars is nothing new :) and karaoke is my thing!! So, 7 days a week, free entertainment, decent prices on drinks for the area, they let you drink but not to the point of over intoxication.. clean bathrooms, everyone seems to mind their business ( no "regulars" problems yet) and Crisna the only bartender that's names worth remembering, just for now, and the coolest DJ ever Cali is AWESOME!! :) Foosball, three Pool tables, and awesome entertainment if your open minded with dive bars will = a very fun night! read more

Smittys is a pretty cool place to hang out.. it looks shaddy from the outside, but once your inside its not so bad.. The staff is friendly and so are the people that go there. Friday nights are the best, people that sing get pretty wild and its fun to watch.. They dont take debit cards or credit cards , its Cash only, but they do have a ATM if you need one.. The drinks are at good price.. Karaoke usally starts around 9pm, So come early if you want to sing.. Smittys is the best local watering hole in Vista! The staff is very friendly, the drinks are always good, there's more pool tables here than any other bar around, and the live entertainment (karaoke) is always fun! I've never had a bad time at Smittys. The bartender is the absolute kindest woman and she always remembers me even when I'm gone for months at a time. It's a family style bar meaning once you're in, you're family. Seems like very few venues in North County actually stay open this late. Beer available was PBR tall boys, and on tap Stone IPA, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and three other macros. Stone IPA "pitchers" were cheap at around $10 and filled three pints - so that's a bargain. Beer wasn't tasting super fresh, but given the price I was not complaining. I always come here. Great for locals. As I was using the restroom an employee (Jermaine, Padres hat, 3/31, worked the door) asked me to leave or he would call the cops. I said please call them because I would like to get to the bottom of me using the restroom that is not functional and you would like to call the cops on me for using. Total dive and I love it. There are karaoke superstars as far as the eye can see. You can order mini pitchers of beer for less than $9 and that is for the good brew. The bartenders are as friendly as dive bar bartenders can be. If you are a weekend karaoke warrior such as myself, I would opt for the Friday night session. Although the host on Saturday is a very cool person, the Friday night guy runs a much cleaner and faster rotation. Only downside for me is a cash only bar. So... Recorded music Thanksgiving weekend. Saturday night the singer and I go out for a drink while the others go get herb. Go to a Jim's Vista Lounge (Dive of a dive) for a bit. Leave and try to go to this even divier (?) bar down the street (Delegantes) but don't go in because it's $15 and it's a ranchero bar (Guess they couldn't tell I am a Gaucho). I say we should just get some beers and cruise back. Instead he wants to go to this other bar in the downtown area of the town. I advise against it, but he was set and wanted to see about a show. At first it was OK. A dive bar is a dive bar and you just go with it. Had some drinks and it was full of the standard Vista fare that I grew up with. No shot at a gig because it's a locals bar with patrons for years and decades. They had karaoke and I sang "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by the Animals. Anyways, by the end of the night I know we need to get outta there. He was drunk buying drinks for all the fugly locals just having a good ol' time chattin' em up. We are about to leave and I go to the bathroom. Walk out a few minutes later and it's the scene of a movie and the bar has emptied out almost completely. Go outside and people are all upset with their panties in a bunch. Car is missing from parking spot and people are calling the cops (who pull into the driveway all fast). I just start walking. Tells me to meet him at the school up the street. I call back and he says he is getting pulled over. I walk 3 miles to the house where we're recording at 2am calling everyone and talking to none. Contemplate getting Mexican food but there is a line and decided that standing in line for Filiberto's drive thru probably wouldn't be a good idea. Pick him up from jail the next day at noon. He has 12 staples in his head. Guess one of the girls he bought drinks floor flipped and got the bouncer to throw him out. He's already leaving and this guy is trying to rough him up. Next thing you know he's getting jumped by 4 or 5 guys. The singer is a big, old school punk at 250+ who has worked security and bounced before. But he isn't an ass either... He has security clearances, has worked INS, Border Patrol, the State Dept, and taught English in Jordan for 6 months. Someone smashes a bottle or something on his head and he's gushing blood. Fearing for his safety and life he jumps into his car and takes off. Cops pull him over and he explains his situation as he is bleeding from his head. Good cop says he'll just give him a citation. Bad cop gives him a field sobriety test and a DUI. F*cking hell. But I guess it added some character to that 3 song recording session. And that, my friends, is why you don't go to Sh*tty's. read more
