Smitty's Wings on Sistrunk this past weekend, and it definitely didn't disappoint! I ordered the 16 jumbo wings combo with fries--half Lemon Pepper and half Medium Lemon Pepper. Everything was fresh, hot, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The fries had the perfect crunch and paired so well with the wings. I also tried the mystery drink, which wasn't really my favorite. We visited this location on a Thursday , we had time to kill before checking into our hotel. Restaurant was clean and the staff were very friendly. When we arrived were the only dine in customers probably because of timing (2:30) there was a steady stream of folks picking up to go orders. The wings were cooked perfectly. Although there is a parking lot it is small. I ended up parking in the overflow across the street, unpaved. Inside and outside is spacious and clean. Patrons were really loud so much so I opted to sit outside. The noise followed outside also I ordered the Mango Habanero wings with fries and the Strawberry Hennessy drink. The wings were indeed delicious as was my drink. Service is great. Very efficient and friendly. The downside of sitting outdoors is the smell of cigar/cigarette smoking and flies. This place had a really nice feel and mood to it. Loved the music that was playing. The food on the other hand in my opinion could have been better. The cost for the food didn't match at all. The mozzarella sticks had no flavor and were served with parm cheese on it which made them very dry, and served with cold sauce. The tenders with fries were good but definitely over priced for the size of the tenders you receive, which I was please that they gave an extra one cause on the menu it was only 3 for the meal, but again they were very small. As for the wings they were good but if you are going to put sauce be mindful which one you add, like the garlic parm, It has no garlic taste to it at all. The Mystery drink was really really good so no complaints there. I can see my family and I coming back to give it a second try but I'm hoping they can revamp the combos and the prices. I got a $3 shot and a mixed drink for $9 with the mozzarella sticks, the 6 piece wing combo and chicken gizzards. My waitress was so sweet , answered all my question and just really cool. I've never had sugar on my sweet potato fries different but good! Crystal recommended trying the homemade lemonade and Smitty's lemonade mixed drink. Both drinks were delicious. What can I say that others haven't said already? Yes, we had a few issues during our experience at Smitty's, but nothing that will keep us from returning. We are actually looking forward to coming back to experience the weekend night vibe with the drinks, music, and chill atmosphere. Let me address the negatives, but like I said, they aren't strong enough to dissuade us from returning. At first, we felt they were understaffed, but soon, our waiter dispelled that notion. He ended up being very attentive and extremely friendly. We didn't like that items came out one at a time instead of all together for the table, but it did make for everyone getting the food fresh and hot, not waiting under heat lamps while other parts were still being prepared. There seemed to be a squadron of flies attacking us as we started to receive our food, but again, our waiter stepped up to the rescue, shutting one of the roll-up doors and it some how made a drastic difference. The calamari was not impressive at all. This could not be fixed. Just seemed under seasoned and maybe bought pre-made and frozen. I don't recommend you trying it. Now for the positives. We loved the openness and the ample amount of outdoor seating. (Although we actually sat inside.) As I mentioned, our waiter overall helped make our experience a lot of fun. The calamari was the only negative food wise. Everything else we ordered came out fresh and hot and very delicious. Fried shrimp, multiple flavors of wings, onion rings, and french fries. Wanted the gizzards, but they are only offered on Tues. and Thurs.. Enjoyed the draft beer, but I wish it was served in a glass glass and not a plastic cup. Personal preference. We loved the music. Although it wasn't time for a DJ or their karaoke yet, the music set a good vibe and great atmosphere. To wrap it up, I'd really say it's 4.5 out of 5 stars. What can i say about Smittys but, DAMN! I'm a HUGE wing fan, and Smittys came up randomly on my search. I work in Fort Lauderdale and this was the first time i heard about Smittys. First thing i will say is how great the building looks! They definitely keep up with it and from the outside, it looks kinda like a speakeasy in the middle of the city. We also ordered some onion rings. Seemed like the ones that came from the frozen bag and deep fried but they were good and came with a spicy dipping sauce so i was happy there! We ordered some corn nuggets to start and while i wish they came with some cinnamon or honey butter, the bites were great! Crispy on the outside and creamy/hot on the inside. One thing that really impressed me was that you could pick as many flavors as you wanted. If you order 10 wings you could get 5 flavors on 2 wings each! I went with the Smittys flavor and Hot/Teriyaki/garlic. Wings were large, meaty and crispy! The sauces were so flavorful! Wings are delicious!! The one thing i had to ding it for. Our waitress was a little slow on the service. We watched our wings sit in the window for about 5-7 minutes before she brought them over. Not too long after our arrival, two people started setting up hookah for purchase. The place was getting busier and felt like it was getting more of a club vibe than a local restaurant. My friend and I ordered 24 wings, hot and lemon pepper. An order of mozzarella sticks and sweet potato fries, along with two draft beers, which we each had two of. The hot wings were more like medium with a kick. They weren't spicy hot. The lemon pepper were flavorful. The sweet potato fries were okay. Most likely frozen and fried. They were like room temperature when served and I'd never order the mozzarella sticks again. They weren't bad or good. My friend wanted them. The draft beers were under the Smitty's name and went down cool and wet. Service was okay, as the server could've been more attentive. Our bill was about $65 with tip. It's out of sight. The service is excellent. I posted about the restaurant on Facebook. Friends from all over the country have been just based on the owners' reputation. The food is stellar. We ordered before leaving the Y down the street. My son was enthralled when he saw the photos of historic Sistrunk residents all over the wall. He said that chicken tenders were the best and compared to my uncle who can be found at every tailgate weekend. This was indeed the highest compliment possible, It was a great tribute to local Black History this month. The oil was fresh and the fries were crispy. I enjoyed the wings thoroughly.
