Stopped at SMKD to pick up some takeout today I tried the piggy candy and mac & cheese. I loved the mac & cheese. I guess I wasn't clear on what the piggy candy was, but I'll tell you, it was all fat. Next time I'll definitely be ordering a brisket or a pulled pork.. I will come back and try this place again. When you walk in from the parking lot, you smell the smoked flavors coming through and your mouth begins to water. The staff there is very nice and the atmosphere is very cozy. We ordered the Pig Candy and Marble corn bread for appetizers and combo plates for our main dishes. Everything I've ordered has been flavorful, savory, juicy, and down right delicious! The photos I've shared are from my various visits (no I didn't order it all at once). The team did an amazing job redoing the inside after closing down Bell's BBQ. You get a gourmet meal with a fast casual yet homely welcoming vibe every time. They got the brisket right, juicy and tender with a decent smoke flavor, so well done on that. I enjoyed the pastrami the best, thick cut, really good flavor. While the others like the burnt ends and the pulled pork. The only negative there were the rib tips (I think) were rather burnt and inedible. All the sides were REALLY good. Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy, hush puppies were sweet potato hush puppies, frickin amazing. All the sides, chef's kiss! Kid 1 is making me mention the kugel was amazing, she could have eaten 10 more. For the desserts, banana pudding, cookie w/ice cream and key lime pie. The kids enjoyed the key lime pie tangy without being overwhelming, husband liked the cookie (which was an everything cookie) and I liked the pudding. So those were a hit as well. Everything we've tried has been incredibly flavorful, perfectly cooked, and tastes like authentic, slow-smoked barbecue. I've had the brisket, smash burger, French dip, mojo chicken, and pulled pork, and every single one has been outstanding. It's honestly hard to pick a favorite because they're all that good. The sides deserve just as much attention. The creamed corn, marbled cornbread, ranch fries, and Chippys with dip are all fantastic. Just had an outstanding meal at SMKD BBQ on Eastern Ave in Henderson and I'm still thinking about it. I ordered the Brisket and Baby Back Ribs combo with Beets & Carrots and Mac & Cheese, and everything was excellent. The brisket was perfectly smoked with a great bark, and the rub on the meat was fantastic -- flavorful without being overpowering. The baby back ribs were very tender and meaty, with that ideal pull-off-the-bone texture. Both sides were solid too; the beets and carrots were a nice, slightly sweet contrast and the mac & cheese was rich and creamy. Portions are seriously generous. I couldn't even finish it all and ended up taking half home for later. On top of the great food, the service was friendly and attentive the whole time. SMKD BBQ is a very good BBQ restaurant located in Henderson. This restaurant is brought to you by Bravo Top Chef Alex Resnick (who was actually working there on a Sunday Holiday Weekend). I noticed that they have lots of outside tables and inside are a variety of traditional tables and a few booths. We were warmly greeted by someone who might be the manager. He also took our order but the whole team sort of served us. We shared a four meat plate that came with four sides. We shared Brisket, Chicken, Salmon, Pastrami, and our sides were Macaroni and Cheese, Sweet Potato Hush Puppies, Red Beets and Carrots, and Kugel. The platter arrived quickly and was garnished with a very nice salad with sweet tomatoes, pickle slices, and hot pepper slices. I'm am pleased to say that everything was good and for my taste some things were PHENOMENAL. The Mojo BBQ Chicken was so amazing and so darn delicious. It also just melted in my mouth. The flavors were OFF THE CHARTS. It might be the best or was one of the best chicken dishes that I've tasted anywhere. The Smoked Salmon was SUPURB. It was smoked to perfection and had that melt in your mouth thing that only the best salmon dishes give you. This was up there with Bouchon. The Kugel was also amazing! The textures, the creamy, the taste. I never had a kugel like that before. This one was the best a kugel can be. Liked the beets and carrots. Also enjoyed the macaroni and cheese, and the sweet potato hush puppies. They are where much better than the sides you get at most BBQ places. Brisket was good but also was the delicate style. (light on the smoke) Pastrami also was light with the smoke and I could tell by looking at it needed one more day to cure but still was good. The house made Snickers Inspired Dessert was also delicious. This BBQ Restaurant is unique and different. Also the sides here are very good and much better than from most BBQ restaurants. I was given the lean cut by default, so I can only speak to that, but it was executed well. It carried a nice smoke flavor and managed to avoid the dryness that often ruins a lean cut. **Ribs:** A very solid cook. They had great smoke flavor and were perfectly tender, pulling cleanly without falling completely off the bone. The rub gave me distinct Rendezvous in Memphis vibes, which was an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. **Greens:** The texture was nicely tender, but they unfortunately lacked any real seasoning or depth of flavor. **Dirty Dirty Beans:** The beans themselves were cooked perfectly with a great texture, but the flavor profile missed the mark. It carried a harsh, "dirty" smoke taste that was ultimately off-putting. I really wanted to like these, but the flavor just wasn't there. All in all, the vibe, the staff, the ambiance, and the meats make this a solid choice. We ordered at the kiosk and the food was dropped off to us at our table. We ordered the 4+4 combo which came with 4 meats, 4 sides, 2 drinks for about 70 dollars which was not too bad. Our favorite cuts were probably the brisket and pastrami. The burnt ends were also good but we were given 3 blobs of fat. So ended up only getting maybe 5 pieces of burnt ends. The chopped pork was kinda dry sadly. Their sauces were good but a bit water for my preference. Our favorite side was prob the Mac but it did lack some flavor. I ended up putting some bbq sauce in it to get that flavor in. The potato salad also lacked the flavor I was looking for. It kinda just tasted like dill and mayo. The ribs, pastrami, chopped pork, and brisket were all sensational, but if I had to choose 2 for the combo, I'd say ribs ands pastrami were my favorite. If you decide to go with brisket, I definitely recommend the fatty brisket over the lean. I returned two times since my first review and I had to take away a star for two reasons. Reason number one price this time I got a one meat combo and paid two dollars extra for baby back ribs.. OK I get that but they don't even give you a drink? So then I had to pay $3 for a fountain drink so the combo was $23. I think that's a little bit high if you're gonna spend $20 on a combo I think it should include a beverage, but that's just me and #2 the next morning I had a really bad stomach ache. My daughter also got the regular mac & cheese and only ate two fork bowls because she said it was too spicy. Honestly, I should've asked them to redo it, but I didn't bother so that was a waste of five dollars and then the toast that I got with my ribs with one piece was OK but the other one was so hard and burnt that I tried to take a bite and I couldn't even bite it. I also could've asked them to remake that, but I figured I didn't wanna bother them because then usually when they remake stuff anywhere it doesn't get done right. Unfortunately, I am extremely disappointed. We spent $74 on a to-go order, so we expected the food to be fresh. It absolutely was not. The brisket was nothing but fat and completely bland. The sausage and ribs were dry with little to no flavor. The beans were undercooked, and both the potato salad and mac and cheese lacked any seasoning or taste. To make matters worse, the "sweet potato" hush puppies were neither sweet potato flavored nor edible--they were so dry you could barely swallow them. This was not an off day, as the owner was present during our visit. Since we ordered our food to go, there is no excuse for it not being fresh. For the amount of money we spent, the quality was unacceptable, and we left feeling like we completely wasted our money. After waiting in line 10-15 minutes my wife ordered a pastrami on rye sandwich with a side of sweet potato hush puppies and I opted for the 2-meat combo (sausage and pulled pork) with potato salad and "dirty, dirty" beans. The food was worth the wait!! The two waitresses kept everyone happy out front. This isn't a real big place but they put out great BBQ.
