Visiting family in Vegas this place was recommended to us to try out - we have two boys that love BBQ. BBQ isn't necessarily my thing but I figured I could try out the French dip - those are my thing (send my husband out in a blizzard to get it and strawberry ice cream for me while pregnant kind of thing). I figured worst case I've eaten a sandwich. Well, I may have eaten one of the best French dip sandwiches of my life. The layers of flavor - and the mild creamy horseradish! Wow! I had to try this place out after scootering by it three days a week and the delicious smells emanating from it. Some super good smoked meats! SMKD BBQ is a very good BBQ restaurant located in Henderson. This restaurant is brought to you by Bravo Top Chef Alex Resnick (who was actually working there on a Sunday Holiday Weekend). I noticed that they have lots of outside tables and inside are a variety of traditional tables and a few booths. We were warmly greeted by someone who might be the manager. He also took our order but the whole team sort of served us. We shared a four meat plate that came with four sides. We shared Brisket, Chicken, Salmon, Pastrami, and our sides were Macaroni and Cheese, Sweet Potato Hush Puppies, Red Beets and Carrots, and Kugel. The platter arrived quickly and was garnished with a very nice salad with sweet tomatoes, pickle slices, and hot pepper slices. I'm am pleased to say that everything was good and for my taste some things were PHENOMENAL. The Mojo BBQ Chicken was so amazing and so darn delicious. It also just melted in my mouth. The flavors were OFF THE CHARTS. It might be the best or was one of the best chicken dishes that I've tasted anywhere. The Smoked Salmon was SUPURB. It was smoked to perfection and had that melt in your mouth thing that only the best salmon dishes give you. This was up there with Bouchon. The Kugel was also amazing! The textures, the creamy, the taste. I never had a kugel like that before. This one was the best a kugel can be. Liked the beets and carrots. Also enjoyed the macaroni and cheese, and the sweet potato hush puppies. They are where much better than the sides you get at most BBQ places. Brisket was good but also was the delicate style. (light on the smoke) Pastrami also was light with the smoke and I could tell by looking at it needed one more day to cure but still was good. The house made Snickers Inspired Dessert was also delicious. This BBQ Restaurant is unique and different. Also the sides here are very good and much better than from most BBQ restaurants. I would honestly give 4.5 Stars but Yelp won't let me do that. So I am rounding up to 5 Stars because of the warm welcoming service from the staff and some of the off the charts dishes. read more

Basically drooling as I write this... Checked out SMKD because all of the neighborhood and foodie FB groups in the area were popping up with rave reviews about this place. After trying it out, I can confidently say that the hype is real. My fiancé's from Kansas and is extremely picky about bbq. He was obsessed with everything we got, including the mac n cheese, which he's normally not keen on. For me, these were my favorite ribs I've had in a long time--they were fall off the bone tender and extremely flavorful. Rounded my 3.5 to a 4 rating. This place seems like a small family own business? But the service was amazing. We were constantly checked up upon by the workers. There's ample seating when we came. We ordered at the kiosk and the food was dropped off to us at our table. We ordered the 4+4 combo which came with 4 meats, 4 sides, 2 drinks for about 70 dollars which was not too bad. Our favorite cuts were probably the brisket and pastrami. The burnt ends were also good but we were given 3 blobs of fat. So ended up only getting maybe 5 pieces of burnt ends. The chopped pork was kinda dry sadly. Their sauces were good but a bit water for my preference. Our favorite side was prob the Mac but it did lack some flavor. I ended up putting some bbq sauce in it to get that flavor in. The potato salad also lacked the flavor I was looking for. It kinda just tasted like dill and mayo. Overall the food wasn't bad but some meats were dry and there was no standouts for the sides. But service was very accommodating and friendly! read more

I'm not usually a bbq person, but there quite a few go-to items that I will definitely be returning for. The ribs, pastrami, chopped pork, and brisket were all sensational, but if I had to choose 2 for the combo, I'd say ribs ands pastrami were my favorite. If you decide to go with brisket, I definitely recommend the fatty brisket over the lean. The hush puppies, kale caesar salad, mac & cheese, and fries with the spices were excellent complements to the protein. Finished it off with the snickers bar and the fried apple pie. When you see the smoker , you know it's real. Got the brisket, it was really tender and juicy. By itself , flavor was bland however they have really great sauces and using those gave it a kick. Staff were very friendly , and the space was relaxed. Looking forward to going back and trying something different. I know different bbq has different focus. Anyways, we had the burnt ends which are worth ordering. So tender and tasty. We also had the brisket which I think didn't even need sauce. I went with the 50/50 fatty/lean. The chicken was a little dry but not bad. The ribs were moist and fell off the bone. I really liked the variety of pickled veggies. The dirty beans were bland. Best Decision for Lunch--Absolutely Delicious! We stopped in for a late lunch at SMKD Barbecue (formerly Bell's Barbecue), in Henderson, NV and we were honestly so pleasantly surprised. From the moment we walked in, the difference was noticeable, the restaurant was clean, welcoming, and had a great crowd, which we hadn't seen here before. We were greeted warmly right away, and the service was quick and friendly. The food came out fast, hot, and fresh. I ordered the beef dip sandwich, and it was incredible....thinly shaved, flavorful meat that was so good I ended up finishing the entire sandwich (which I never do!). The fries were perfectly hot and crispy, with great seasoning. My husband had the two-meat platter with pastrami and burnt ends, and he absolutely loved it. The barbecue sauce was delicious, and the sides really stood out, we had the dirty beans and the creamed corn, and the creamed corn was truly to die for. You can absolutely tell this place is under new ownership in the best way. The quality, service, and overall experience have improved so much. Having been to SMKD for the ribs a couple of weeks ago, couldn't wait to get back and have some more. It wasn't in the cards for me this night. 5:30 on a Wednesday night and they were sold out of the first run and it would be 30 minutes for the next batch to be ready. We decided to try the pastrami on rye instead ($18). Not your typical pastrami on rye. First, it comes on two large slices of marbled rye (delish!!!). Second, it comes with a portion of slaw under the pastrami - more like a Rachel (or Reuben) minus the cheese. Comes with a pickle on the side. As a side we got the "My Mommy's Kugel" and an extra side of sweet potato hush puppies ($9). The kugel was very different than the kugel my mother used to make. But it was excellent! The restaurant is in a strip mall on Eastern. Parking is easy. And the restaurant is easy to find - follow your nose - the smoker is out front and has the wonderful smoked ribs aroma welcoming you to the front door. I had the Sliced Bricket, I recommend going 50/50 lean to fat, Mac n Cheese, and sweet potato hush puppies. The brisket was fall a part, buttery, dissolved in your mouth deliciousness. The smoke level is spot on. It adds depth of flavor and doesn't blow your mouth out with char for the rest of the day like some spots do. Mac n Cheese was velvety goodness.
