Such a great addition to the Southern Highlands Proper food line up. If you haven't been here, get here! It's fabulous. Although their GO isn't until next month. Located in the Fire Station Plaza where Capriotti's demise happened, it's completely remodeled and such a nice atmosphere. She did well with her employees. Not only nice but execute the menu items perfectly! We opted to start with the beet & citrus salad which is truly unique with its smoky walnut paste down the middle. We then moved on to the Cluck a Doodle Do, The Classic burger & the Mushroom & Gruyère burger. All very tasty and all very good. The chicken was so tender on the CADD. My dining companion finished with one of their many unique milkshakes. Definitely will be back to try literally everything. Super excited about the house made soups which there are many to try from daily. Only suggestion is to have a more eclectic selection of bottled drinks. Also, the sandwiches and the burgers could be larger. After all, the two of us had to order three sandwiches/burgers just to feel somewhat full. Or maybe just add some hardier side options because a lot of us don't eat chips. One hundred percent recommend this place!! EDIT: Upon returning for our second visit, we wanted something light so we just went with salads and soups. Imo, those things should not be priced the same as some meal items. Yet they are. "Constructive feedback is our most valuable ingredient" - well, here it goes. :-) This little restaurant is a wonderful addition to the Southern Highlands community. It is certainly a massive improvement over the previous tenant. That being said, I think the restaurant has room to grow and I hope the early feedback here will be taken to heart and implemented. I see so much potential in this little restaurant! This restaurant has the potential to grow into something similar to the absolutely incredible "Joan's on Third" in Los Angeles... Take that to heart. And while I'm aware that Mama Tess's just opened, I also know it can become so much more than what it currently is in its infancy. All the ingredients for a major success story are here, and hopefully, just getting started! I want this restaurant to succeed so badly. The food we had was all quite good, although the smash burger patties could use a bit more flavor/seasoning. Service was generally good, although the girl who was working was much friendlier and more personable than the guy that she was training. She was wonderful! Other staff could use a bit more training with welcoming in guests with a smile/greeting. It is immediately clear, however, that there is a lot of passion and love that has been put into the place by the owners. The fresh flowers and bakery case, as well as the small market to the right as you enter are all very nice touches. I couldn't help but smile while perusing the shelves of the shop. A few suggestions to grow, include - 1. The booths are a nice addition BUT the tables and chairs are all left overs from Capriotti's and they are in pretty rough shape. One of the high stools actually has someone's name carved into it from when the previous tenant was still there and the wood around the edges of all the tables is pretty shabby. The rest of the decor around the room that they added is super cute and inviting! I know these things take time, but switching these out for new farmhouse style tables, chairs, stools, etc. from Wayfair or similar would really help to elevate the dining experience and overall atmosphere. A new patio set to replace the old aluminum table out front would also be nice. Again, I know this is a small business and these things take time. 2. The beverage offerings and sodas in the fridge could be much more extensive. I know this restaurant is owned by the same couple who owns the Pioneer Saloon, which already has a lot of delicious craft root beers, etc. Those are currently missing from Mama Tess's. Offering those here in addition to or as an alternative to the standard Coke/Sprite/Fanta offerings would be great and help the business standout more. The Jones sodas section is a nice start, but adding craft root beer, bottled iced teas, Italian sodas, etc. would certainly help elevate and expand the experience tenfold. In this neighborhood, they would also be big sellers. Also, getting rid of the Dasani water (it's cheap and acidic and in plastic) is a must in exchange for higher quality bottled water like Mountain Valley, Evian, or Acqua Panna in glass bottles. I'll attach a photo of Joan's on Third's beverage section here for reference. It is something Mama Tess's can certainly grow into. 3. For ordering milkshakes in house (not to go), it would be nice to receive them in an actual milkshake glass/malt glass rather than a plastic cup. The plastic cups are great to go, but while dining in, real glassware would be much nicer and greatly appreciated. The shakes themselves are delicious, and they deserve a true soda fountain style glass! I would also suggest adding a root beer float to the menu, made with craft soda. This restaurant is located just across the parkway from the Southern Highlands Golf Club, which is an extremely wealthy neighborhood with eight-figure mansions. Expanding the restaurant's craft and higher end offerings suggested above will only attract more residents from that neighborhood and distinguish the business from anything else in Las Vegas. That is how Joan's on Third, one of my favorites in LA, became such a massive and thriving success... I hope that they continue to grow! They have tremendous potential and I really can't wait to return after the grand opening to see how it evolves! read more

A new restaurant located in Southern Highlands has opened and it's AWESOME! They're in the soft opening since July 2, 2026. and the grand opening will be next month . A true local gem ! It is a casual atmosphere with a counter service. They offer good seating for a high top and bench seat, the space is not too big, not too small either, just enough tables to dine in. The service from the general manager and the chef was excellent. They are very friendly, attentive and overall welcoming. They truly care about the customers . Menu offers a nice selection of : signature sandwiches, from the grill burgers , salad, soups, milkshakes, and desserts. We have tried: a double bacon cheeseburger and a Sunday Roast which were amazing! Their in house home made kettle chips are delicious . The buns were so soft, baked fresh daily. We have also tried a Peachy Keen milkshake and it was super yummy! A must try their milkshakes!!! Overall: we have had such a great experience at this local restaurant and we highly recommend it! read more

Mama Tess's Artisan Kitchen is a new restaurant located in Southern Highlands. You'll find them on the corner of Valley View and Southern Highlands, near Starbucks, next to On Demand Sushi. They're at the former spot of Capriotti's with plenty of parking. Inside is a casual atmosphere with good seating for a high top and bench seat, and soft background music. Menu offers a nice selection of signature sandwiches, from the grill, greens & things salad, soups, sides, as well as fresh squeezed lemonade, milkshakes, and desserts. Currently, they're in the soft opening since July 2, 2026. I wanted to try Brussels salad but they sold out. Kaitlyn recommended The Garden Goat ($15) so I went with that, it has roasted red peppers with grilled zucchini, marinated artichokes, spinach, and herbed goat cheese on crisp ciabatta bread, and comes with housemade kettle chips that's thin, airy, crispy, crunchy, and so good! I ordered Tomato Bisque ($12.99), which is a generous serving of super rich and creamy tomato, garnished with fresh basil, very flavorful and delicious! For refreshment, I tried Classic Fresh Squeezed Lemonade ($5.99), which is not too sweet and taste delightful! Also had a Classic Brownie ($5.99) for dessert, so amazingly moist and soft with fantastic chocolate, I love it! Service from Kaitlyn and chef Nick is very kind, welcoming, helpful, attentive, and friendly. I highly recommend trying their food, it's excellent plus service is outstanding! read more

Suspiciously Good I'm starting to think this place has an unfair advantage. Everything came out tasting like somebody actually cared about what they were doing, which frankly feels excessive for a restaurant in this economy. The menu is creative without being pretentious, the food is beautifully executed, and the service was on point. I ordered two things and immediately started regretting not ordering three other things. Whoever is running the kitchen clearly has some unreasonable HIGH standards, because apparently "good enough" is not an option here. Would absolutely recommend. Would absolutely come back everyday. I really enjoy supporting small local businesses and saw someone post their review of this place which is down the street from where we live. I had the spicy ghost burger and Caesar salad (opted out of the kale and just added more romaine). Burger was phenomenal- I got the sauce on the side because I was taking everything home and didn't want a soggy bun. It definitely had a kick to it. I stopped by because I always try to support new small businesses that open in Southern Highlands. When I walked in and looked at the menu, the first thing I noticed was how expensive everything was. The cheapest sandwich was around $16. I figured I'd give it a try anyway because if a sandwich is truly exceptional, I don't mind paying premium prices. I was also expecting it to be a decent size. When I got my order, I was honestly surprised by how small it was for the price. As for the taste, it was good, but it honestly tasted like something I could make at home. There just wasn't anything that made it stand out or justify the cost. I really wanted to love this place. I've lived in Southern Highlands for over 20 years, and I've seen too many great mom-and-pop businesses close their doors. I genuinely think this sandwich shop has potential, but they either need to lower their prices or increase their portion sizes to provide better value. I hope they succeed because I'd love to have another local business thrive in our community. But if they continue charging these prices for a fairly simple sandwich, I'm afraid it will be difficult for them to keep customers coming back. read more

I live down the street from this restaurant, so I really really wanted it to be great. Unfortunately, it left a lot to be desired. Everyone is incredibly friendly and kind. The restaurant is spotless. So those are two huge pluses. But the food... I don't think I've had a worse salad or sandwich anywhere. The salad completely lacked flavor and the chicken looked like it was prepackaged Trader Joe's chicken that was just defrosted and thrown haphazardly on the salad. The Sunday roast sandwich was a huge chunk of cold meat on bread and a couple of fixings. A proper Sunday roast sandwich should be thinly sliced meat served warm with some au jus on the side. The sandwich was completely unappetizing. I really hope that they make some changes because I love to support local businesses, but this restaurant just isn't there yet. read more

Ordered the double burger. It was juicy and delicious. The veggies were fresh tasting and the sauce was just enough. When I bit into it the juice ran down my fingers and I was amazed that it was so good. Honestly filled me up and couldn't finish it all. Thankfully it came in a to-go container. We went in after a tournament and wanted to get something close to our house. This place was amazing and can't wait to dine in! Love that it is walking distance from Royal Highlands.We ordered 2 double bacon cheeseburgers and the mushroom guerre cheese smash burgers which were amazing! Restaurant was super cute. Customer service was great. I know they are just opening and getting started. However, i ordered the spinach and berry salad and my fruit was complete mush and i didn't taste any bacon. And there was something on it that was super soggy as well. I also had a chicken salad sandwich and i did as them to change the bread since it came on a croissant(I'm dairy free for my breastfeeding)and they had no dairy free options. But the bread we did choose was dry. And it was a pretty small sandwich for the price. I also purchased a glass bottle coke and the cashier didn't know if they had a bottle opener, when i said I'll have water - they only offer sparkling or tap. No bottled or flat water. That seems unreal for a desert restaurant like Las Vegas. I say all this as i will probably try them again in a few months once they have been open awhile and work out their kinks. My husband liked his burger. One last thing. Now that I'm a new mom, i have to take note where i can and cannot go. I had to change my baby in the 104degree heat in my car because neither bathroom had a changing table.. . Not going to give a low score at this time. Just hope to have a better meal the next time i come. read more
