We just had our "Spring" tune up and service. Our service technician was Tony Daza. He was courteous and called to tell us he was on his way. His inspection was thorough and he assured us he would get estimates to us for the services and repairs our HVAC system required. And he did so very quickly. He even did some research with our HVAC system manufacturer, and found there was a warranty on some of our parts. Thus, saving us some money. His estimates made it possible for my wife and me to make an educated and informed decision on which repairs need immediate attention and which can be postponed till later. Amazing! We woke up to no a/c and an error code on our nest. We were totally dissatisfied with our previous services so i looked for a new company, checking as many review sites as i could find. I chose Smock because of their great ratings and location close to my home, knowing full well that they dont know me, its Saturday morning and we are headed into a holiday week. I was expecting to be without A/C for a while. BUT, i called at 7:30 am, got a real person, and the tech, Aleck was at my house before 9 and had the A/C on and cooling by 10! He was friendly, professional and very helpful. The prices were very reasonable, and he gave me options that made absolute sense. He was so thorough that I opted into their maintenance and their service contract was actually a great deal. Far less expensive than the 2 visits per year contracts i am used to. And because i opted into the service plan, this saturday morning emergency call fee was waived. Time will tell if they live up to their reputation, but i totally agree with all of their 5 star reviews and i'm genuinely hopeful that i've found the company i will use forever more! STAY AWAY. The TECH that came to my house was a salesperson not a TECH to fix the issue. After a few minutes looking at my Furnace, he insisted, and hard line pushed and did everything he could to tell me that I needed a new inducer motor and heat exchanger. Out of the country when our renters told us there was an AC issue. Called first thing this past Friday, they came out that afternoon and fixed the problem. Price seemed a little high however based upon the same day service it was worth paying it. I had an HVAC emergency today, and after being thoroughly disappointed with ARS Roto Rooter (DON'T USE THEM!) I called Eric Smock... and was very pleased with the service. I left a message, and Dave called me back a few minutes later. He walked me through a few things that could be wrong (did I check the breaker box? Of course not Dave. Is the filter dirty? Does this thing have a filter Dave? Etc.) He then came out a few hours later, removed the filter,and told me how and where to go to replace it, told me to let the unit cool down, turn it back on, and call him if it didn't work properly. He said he'd happily come back out, no extra charge, if that didn't solve the issue. So, Dave is my new bestie. I will entrust my (HVAC) unit only to him. Because only he understands how frantically upsetting a broken air conditioner on a 88 degree day in a townhouse can be. And he doesn't judge me for it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

Our addition HVAC system stopped heating and our daughter had just had Eric Smock Heating come out and fix thier HVAV unit and were very pleased with their prompt and professional service so we decided to give them a call as well. They came out and were able to fix our system. The system is old and I asked if they could give us an estimate for replacing it. They came out to look at the system and said they would email the estimate to us. Two weeks went by and no email with an estimate was received so I called to inquire about it. The person I spoke with said she would let the represetative know that I had called and was asking for the estimate. As of 2/22/22 I have not received the estimate. read more

My heat pump decided to quit working on one of those days (May 3, 2018) were Maryland winter suddenly becomes summer bringing along 90-degree temperatures and humidity. I knew my day was coming, as the unit was aging and had been losing efficiency over the past couple of years. I wondered how many days it would take to get it fixed and how much of a hassle this would end up being. I did some cursory research on Angie's list and Yelp and decided to contact the Eric Smock company. And I am glad I did! This is a top-notch outfit that provides end-to-end exceptional customer care, technical expertise, professionalism, and attention to detail. I think this reflects exceptional leadership at the top. I would not assume that all HVAC catastrophic failures could be resolved within 24 hours, but that's exactly what happened in my case. I called the number on their website around 7AM Friday May 4 assuming I would get an answering machine (note - the phone number on Yelp is not correct). Instead I spoke with Jeffrey of their answering service, who took down the details of my problem (heat pump not working, circuit breakers tripping) and what I had done (reset breakers, replace filter in air handler) and he assured me that he would get the information right over to ES when they opened at 8AM. Around 7:45 AM Ashley contacted me from ES, reviewed my information, and explained that due to the heat things had really gotten busy but that they would do the best they could; very professional, very friendly, and I got the sense that she "owned" the problem and would do what she could. She had rearranged some work, and as it turns out Kevin was available to come over and diagnose the issue around 9AM. Detail: She sent me an email with Kevin's picture on it in advance of his arrival so I would know who to look for. Kevin did a number of diagnostics on the heat pump and the air handler in the basement, and unfortunately, I had suffered what he called a "catastrophic failure" requiring complete replacement. He was very straight-forward and explained what had happened. I was reeling a bit, I suppose, and when he said that Scott (owner's son) would be over at noon to provide an estimate, I said something like "Well it will be good to get it repaired," and Kevin very politely but clearly said, "No, we are talking replacement." Kept me on track, in other words. He did not commit to any ballpark for replacement, nor when it would occur -- expertly managing my expectations and my tendency to hope people will say what I want to hear . Scott arrived ahead of schedule around 11AM (Ashley called to confirm if this would be acceptable) and we sat down and discussed the options. He first asked a few questions to gather information which might have a bearing on the equipment installed (e.g., does anyone have allergies or asthma?) took the time to walk me through a short presentation on the company, their training and skillsets, insurance status, and then the actual estimate. He provided several options for replacement. They also offer financing, which I did not require. He was not sure if they could get to it today, and if they could if they could finish it, but they would try, and in any event I would have AC that day, and if necessary he would help on the install! As it turns out, Scott and his initial crew arrived around 3PM with a truck load of equipment and started to work. They decided to complete the job that day, due to other work that was piling up, for which I was grateful. They finally wrapped things up at 9PM! I got a great briefing on how to operate the fancy-dancy high tech thermostat (can't wait to show that off to my kids!) and how to connect it to a device (which I did the next day -- was quite easy). I think they left the place cleaner when they left then it was when they arrived! The entire crew -- and I apologize that I didn't recall all their names -- was polite, respectful, hardworking, well-groomed, and wearing company-issued polo shirts for a neat, professional appearance. They took care to put on those bootie things on their shoes when in the main part of the house. They appeared to work well together, each going about their tasks. It was not their first rodeo, as they say. One of them mentioned that they rarely begin a complete replacement project that late in the day, but they wanted to finish it so they could help other customers. I don't write a lot of reviews, and certainly not this detailed, but I wanted to document just what you get when you work with the Eric Smock Company. read more

I had signed up for the HVAC service plan with Eric Smock earlier this year and I am glad I did. In September, Kevin came in a got the heating and A/C all squared away. He was polite and very professional and very helpful in explaining what he was doing and what needed to be done. A few weeks ago, my wife noticed some water on the concrete floor next to the furnace in the laundry room. I called the answering service for Eric Smock and got a call back almost immediately. Just so happened that it was the same technician who helped us before - Kevin! He said he stopped by the next morning first thing and sure enough, he texted and called to let us know that he was on his way and showed up on schedule, found the issue, fixed it, and was out the door. Eric Smock was an excellent resource for reviewing our AC unit and options for repair. He came out and gave me a ballpark answer, but more importantly fixed my AC unit and kept it working long enough for us to consider what to do later this summer or this fall since its more cost effective to replace the entire AC/Heating system at one time. Our system is 17 years old and if it lasts for one year or 6 more months, I will call Eric again to get the new system installed. Our AC stopped working Friday so we tried changing the filter and turning the unit off for 8 hours in case the coils were frozen. Saturday morning we called to have a tech come out over the weekend for an additional fee (cheaper than other places we called). The tech was very knowledgeable, not pushy at all, and fully explained what happened; the capacitor died and we needed a replacement. A very inexpensive fix! He also showed us a part that was starting to fray and how we could prevent it from going soon. That is also an inexpensive fix. We didn't have a tech come out Friday (and not pay a weekend fee) because we thought if the coils were frozen, we would be tricked into paying for something that didn't need to be fixed. We found an honest company and we will surely recommend them to our friends and family!! read more

We have been very pleased with Eric Smock Heating & Air Conditioning. Last year on a 90 degree Memorial Day weekend we had our AC unit down. I called and contacted several AC companies, but the only one to respond was Eric Smock. Keep in mind I had never had any work done by them and they were swamped with their own customers already on maintenance contracts. They kept in touch and were out first thing the next morning. They brought portable air conditioners and saved us from the misery of no AC that holiday weekend. Since then they replaced our one AC unit and we are on a maintenance contract with them.
