I spoke with Mike at Air Repair, and he came over (on time) a couple of days later. He saw that my house was relatively new, and asked me when it was built (Dec 2019 - 4 years ago). He took a look at the ducts in the furnace room and said that cleaning the ducts would not help as they are already clean. He recommended changing the air filter a bit more frequently and said that the dust was probably normal. Next, I asked him to look at our dryer vent/tube. He said he would need to come back for that, and he did - on time. Wow! He quickly and efficiently cleared out the dryer tube, vent, and dryer filter. He showed me before and after pictures. He also advised me on how to clean the dryer more efficiently with a long bristle brush and flat vacuum hose nozzle. Very friendly, polite, on-time, and reasonably priced. The tech Frederick Air sent out to diagnose our problem said we needed a new compressor and recommended a whole new system because our system was 15 years old and would only be a matter of time before other parts failed. If I hadn't known better, we would have paid thousands for a repair that actually only cost hundreds. Would our problem have been fixed with a new system? Yes, but at what cost? If we had replaced only the compressor that they said wasn't working, it wouldn't have fixed the problem, and they would have sold us an entire new system anyway. The company we ended up using found a leak, repaired it, recharged the coolant, and our house kept cool throughout the entire summer. If Frederick Air suggests an expensive new system, get a second opinion. How will you know if that is what you really need without a second opinion?

When everything finally went out, it was the most inconvenient weekend ever - we also had a major water leak and broken dishwasher the same weekend, along with a 3 year old, on a very hot fall weekend. Some friends referred us to Tony, and he came out to see us immediately. He had a new HVAC for us within days, and was super flexible with waiting for our financing to come through to pay a few days after. Knowing his experience as a fire fighter gave us extra peace of mind. We had a few issues after, and Tony always responded immediately to texts and calls, and came out same day to check on things whenever possible, no charge - including weekends, on his way out to vacation, any day and time. Once, the issue was a recent power outage that we'd missed - quick flip of the breaker fixed things. The other times he suspected a leak in the system due to some other house work, but in the end it turned out to be a manufacturer defect.
