Last spring, we called Frederick Air to have a problem with our system diagnosed. I was not cooling effectively. A friend who knew HVAC but was not licensed had already told us our compressor was fine. The tech Frederick Air sent out to diagnose our problem said we needed a new compressor and recommended a whole new system because our system was 15 years old and would only be a matter of time before other parts failed. If I hadn't known better, we would have paid thousands for a repair that actually only cost hundreds. Would our problem have been fixed with a new system? Yes, but at what cost? If we had replaced only the compressor that they said wasn't working, it wouldn't have fixed the problem, and they would have sold us an entire new system anyway. The company we ended up using found a leak, repaired it, recharged the coolant, and our house kept cool throughout the entire summer. If Frederick Air suggests an expensive new system, get a second opinion. How will you know if that is what you really need without a second opinion? read more

Well I had a contract with Frederick Air. Was paying them annually and for each 6 month service. I had another company look at it this year and they showed me all of the issues that I am currently encountering. I'm not sure what Frederick Air was doing besides taking my money and not really servicing it. I have attached photos to show the mess. This place is all about getting paid and replacing units to their advantage. Customers beware!! I guess unless you watch over them, they charge you for things they actually don't perform. Horrible!!! I was out of town when one of our rental units died and needed replaced. I selected them because they said they would handle all aspects with the tenant including temporary AC. They only provided 2 window units and the tenant was told she needed to install them. My tenant ended up getting alternative temp cooling and then was asking ME to pay for it after the fact. I was hoping they would handle the tenant management as they had said they would when I talked to the sales person. My tenants were NOT happy with the temporary solution. read more

My HVAC was making a noise so I wanted to have someone look at it. I contacted multiple companies but decided to give Frederick Air a shot because of their stellar reviews. They told me they would charge me $125 for diagnosing the issue and give me a price on fixing the issue. They were punctual for the appointment time of 7:30am. Sunny came in and was very friendly and professional. He diagnosed the issue and told me that I needed to replace the inducer motor assembly. While my wife and I were talking, he also switched the capacitor and charged us an extra $87. It is not like he changed it without my permission but I did not price shop for the capacitor, which I regret. I found out that I could have it installed for a mere $15 by going through Air Repair. Sunny also replaced the batteries in my thermostat, which caused my thermostat to stop working. I called Frederick Air and the guy (I think his name was Dave) diagnosed that the thermostat was not working anymore. He went to his truck for about 10 minutes (probably talking to his boss) and when he came back, he tried to charge me for the thermostat. I did not appreciate that since it was not our fault that the thermostat stopped working. Anyways, he tried to charge me and I politely declined and he said that Sunny would pay for it. Next day I wanted to get an estimate for installing the inducer motor and Keith from Frederick Air told me it would cost me a whopping $631. I started shopping around and I got a price from Air Repair for $380 to replace the inducer motor with the assembly kit. I wanted to see if Frederick Air would price match. Keith called me back and said that he would just have the motor replaced for $432. If the motor cannot be replaced, they would replace the whole assembly for $631. Reason for three stars is because their prices are very high and the fact that they tried to charge me for the thermostat. I understand that mistakes happen but companies should own up to their mistakes as well. read more

We have used Frederick Air for a system check and a diagnostic for an issue we were having with our A/C. When I reached out, Frederick Air sent someone out the same day! While they were unable to fix the issue that day, our tech explained everything and was apologetic that he couldn't fix it that day. I shook hands with the owner as he promised to make me happy with the installation of a new heating system right across the street from their shop. They came to put it in while I was at work. When I returned they had put the unit in so the flue was at the wrong end from the chimney and the hot flue pipe ran through my basement workshop. When I asked them to fix it they said they would do it at "cost" which was over $800. I never got any better resolution. They crapped on two friends as well when instead of listening to me they picked Frederick Air because they were the low bidder. There's a reason why Frederick Air is often the low bidder. To give you an idea of what the owner is like, one winter he plowed his lot and pushed the snow across the street onto my sidewalk which I am required to keep clear. On Friday 7/3/20 I called Frederick Air because we woke up to 82 degrees. Our air was not work at all. My poor dog was so hot, poor baby. I had to leave to work so I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Gino who did an amazing job. The kids room has always been the hottest rooms in the house. Well...not anymore. Needed a new system salesman came out looked at the existing one, and left wasn't there for five minutes. Said he'd have a quote for me later that day, two weeks later still no quote. Two years ago we contracted with Frederick Air to install a split unit. They did a great job of setting and meeting expectation. Pricing was clear, logistics around the install had no surprises. Staff were courteous and took obvious care to be clean inside the house and paid attention to the esthetics outside the house. Nicely done. Then the test of time. Six months later we had water dripping outside the air handler, inside the house. We called and they responded. The cause of the dripping was unclear. What was clear is Frederick Air recorded the event and in a very timely fashion sent service reps to fix the problem - which they did. One year later we had dripping outside the air handler, inside the house. We called, they responded. The diagnosis was the pump was not sufficient to pump the volume of water to the roof to discharge. They replaced the pump under warranty - per the manufacturer, the same sized pump. Four weeks after that - more dripping. Frederick Air sent a tech with an upgraded pump. Because the pump was larger, it required the wall be cut and the pump be placed in the void between the studs. Parts and Labor covered under warranty. Each interaction Frederick Air was timely in answering the phone, assigning a tech, responding to the service issue within 48 hours of the call and communicated with us through the event. Frederick Air has a culture of standing behind their work and taking care of their customer. My wife loves them. A great combo. read more

My warranty policy could not find any one to come out which is Choice Warranty recommended by AARP, which is a terrible company, nothing seems to be covered . Had Don S as my serviceman and he was great. Service is not cheap but at least I won't roast to death. I will replace the system in the fall. read more

Frederick Air in my experience has been honest and competent. They have had two occasions to up-charge me, and both times the technicians were honest and performed only what needed to be done. Because of this, I signed up for their maintenance plan. I hope my AC stays cold and furnace stays hot for years to come. I'll also commend their flexible scheduling. I wanted an ASAP appointment but they weren't able to accommodate, so I made a later appointment. The day before my appointment, they said their tech was running ahead of schedule and asked if he could come in a couple of hours. While the weather on that day was cool, I can see this flexibility feeling like a Xmas miracle. Had our A/C (Heat Pump) serviced a few weeks ago but I forgot to review. First, their sales team was excellent, explained pricing clearly and answered questions. I explained that I am deaf so they made sure to text confirmations. The tech that came to service the unit was Danny. This kid is AWESOME. First he walked through the door and signed his name to me which was super thoughtful. I hung over his shoulder during the whole inspection so I could learn about the unit and what to expect. He was super friendly, explained everything, and answered all my questions. I was super impressed that although very young, he knew his stuff inside and out. We had a couple very minor things to work on so I can't review how well they do in an emergency situation, but if all the techs are like Danny, I'm a life long customer. I have the membership package so they'll be out again in the Fall and I expect the same great service. read more

They charge 2-3 times more than competing companies. $150 to come out to diagnose is high but reasonable but to charge the same amount to install a 'free' part because it's under warranty as if the unit wasn't under warranty is criminal. The last 2 times I've needed someone for AC repairs, they've done this same type of thing, charging more than they should just because they can. What am I going to do, say no and wait another week or two for a different company to come out? read more

I contacted them about replacing the attic mounted AC unit. They prepared a quote in which I specifically said I wanted the copper freon lines replaced as I didn't know how old the existing unit was when I bought the house. They were the lowest bidder. When they came to do the work I didn't see any copper tubing in the scrap they hauled away. I climbed into the attic to check and sure enough they had NOT replaced the old copper. When I contacted the owner of the company he didn't even apologize. He simply offered me $200 to go away. Any company will seem good when everything goes well. What separates the good from the bad is how they handle problems. read more

The removal was promt, efficient and the techs extremely professional. The reinstall had to be scheduled around other trades, inspections, and at different points of construction. My AC had gone out, and despite my best troubleshooting methods, I could not get it to work. I set up an appointment with Frederick Air. The people on the phone were nice & professional, and they listened while I explained both the problem and the steps I had taken to diagnose. When my appointment came, I was happy to see the technician, Duane, had those notes with him so they didn't have to waste time checking the things I already checked. The technician started outside and checked everything back to the unit and thermostat. They ran a few tests, fixed a couple of wires, reset the unit and I was back in business! Duane made a few recommendations for my outside unit, but was not overly pushy. I now have AC again and I'm very happy with the service. read more

I have not had a good experience with this company. They changed my appointment without my knowledge or consent. So I waited for them to come taking off work and they did not show. Then they tried to tell me I had the date wrong, but luckily I had the email saying I had the right date and they changed it. Then I had to take off more time from work for them to come again. The only good point is they got me in the next day, but more money spent by me waiting for them. Then they double charged me for my yearly service subscription. Then tell me they can not reverse the charge, but have to send me a check which means I also eat some interest charges. I have never had these issues with other companies I had for service. Would not recommend to people if this is how they handle problems that are caused on their side and not mine. read more

Just got our AC unit replaced and will not use them again. They are completely shady with their pricing, don't give you what they promise, and are overpriced for the work they perform. Also I've used them before for maintenance work, and they've never diagnosed the problem correctly the first time, and have always had to come back, costing double what they originally project from what "they think" the problem is. read more

I used Frederick Air on two occasions for a rental unit I own. I found them to be honest and up front on each occasion. They gave me several options from the "right now" solution to the best fixes to fit my budget. Instead of pushing a $400 install of a faulty thermostat, they told me I could probably do it myself with a $50 one from Home Depot. They may have taken a hit on that one, but I will think of Frederick Air first when shopping for a new unit or any future repairs. read more
