STAY AWAY from these "nice, sweet" people! These people are dishonest and incredibly rude (to the point that many might be tempted to punch this guy out - not recommending that, but just be prepared to be insulted in the most vile way). The car failed their test initially, so they advised we should get it repaired and bring it back for retest. They noted on our invoice $25 + the state fee for a retest. It took quite awhile to get the car fixed, so when we finally brought it back for retest, they would not honor the rate, insisting that was only good for two months. We pointed out we were never told that and nowhere was it written. They said "many things are not written" and that it was just "common sense." Many things are common sense. Knowing specific limitations to a noted price is not among them. They then proceeded to curse us, our children and our family. To say this guy is nuts is being overly kind. If we could give them less then one star, we would. So, if you still feel compelled to do business with these people, be SURE to get EVERYTHING IN WRITING (though probably still won't honor it). read more

It's rare to find an honest business these days especially mechanic related but this was it. I don't know if I could've had a more magical smog check. These people are family oriented and they're kind, they communicate really effectively and work efficiently, they even gave me a really honest suggestion on how to get a part replaced on my car that cost me way less money and trouble to get it done. They will take care of you and you will feel warmed and welcomed at the same time. These are really good people. I'm not sure if I've ever had a better experience getting a smog check. I stopped at SMOG EXPRESS to have my smog check done, as required by DMV. From the moment I entered, I was met with rudeness from the owner. When I approached him with questions regarding the wait time, he barely responded and displayed an attitude as if my queries were bothersome and unwelcome. His dismissive demeanor made me feel undervalued as a potential customer. However, the situation escalated when I proceeded to the service desk to handle my paperwork. As I was asking the front desk attendant about the total price, the owner rushed to the front of the desk to apparently get some paperwork for another customer. He physically touched me to push me to the side, indicating that I was in his way. Then when I objected to his touching, he brusquely grabbed my paperwork from the desk and handed it back to me bluntly, to indicate they will not be providing their services to me. These actions were completely unwarranted, inappropriate, and made me feel violated and uncomfortable. As a customer, I expect to be treated with respect and courtesy at all times, regardless of the circumstances. The behavior exhibited by the owner of SMOG EXPRESS was not only disrespectful, but also crossed the boundaries of acceptable conduct in a professional setting. No individual should be subjected to rudeness or physical contact while seeking service from any establishment. Needless to say, this is the last time I will be stepping foot there, and I will be sure to file a complaint with BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repairs, which governs these operations) about the way SMOG EXPRESS treats its customers. Also, as other customers noted in their reviews, they do push you to pay in cash, under the excuse that they are giving you a discount with their coupon. I rarely write reviews. But the owner was so incredibly rude and disrespectful I didn't want others to waste their time or be verbally accosted, for a simple smog check. While his hours post closing 4:30 pm. I called at 1 pm and he said he's closing by 2 because his wife wants him to come home and work there! He told me to come another time. I said ok. I called a week later this time again about 1 pm. Again, he said he's closing by 2 as he is beyond retirement age and wants to leave early. I told him I had a coupon. He said I had to have cash. (This is not posted on the coupon or anywhere on the property. I suggest the State of CA come and inspect his records, as he most likely is pocketing the cash and not reporting the sale.) So I went to the bank got the cash; and called him and said I was on my way. He was short and rude. "I'm leaving at 2 if you are not here by then....You've been warned!" Can you believe it! This is how he builds his customer base by brow beating them into submission. 10 min's from arriving, my wife called him on her phone. He told her, as another perspective customer he was closing in 15 min. She said she would try to arrive before then. When we arrived I stated in the car and she spoke to his wife. She said she wanted to close soon. (Mind you the posted hrs closing 4:30 pm. It was 2:10 pm. My wife is very kind and ask'd politely, "Can you do one more? as there were 2 cars still in the process of getting there cars smogged. She started to accept when her husband interjected and asked what make of car. When she pointed to the silver lexus, He got very VERY rude and said, I told your husband I was closing at 2! Come back tomorrow!!! I then got out of the car and told him if this is how you treat prospective customers, we don't need this abuse. He got abusive and asked, What do you want me to do?" If you can't honor your coupon's or posted hrs. You don't deserve to be in business. Just close your doors. Can you believe all this drama for a smog certificate!!! Clearly he had no intention to service my car for personal reasons! When I realised the lady he was taking to was associated with me he immediately changed from accepting to service the car to rejecting her, telling her to come back tomorrow. Totally unprofessional which no one needs to deal with! We left and went 2 miles down the street for the same price without the drama or attitude, Done in 15 minutes. No need for cash as I paid on my credit card at no additional cost!!! Helpful and accommodating. They got me in quickly as a walk-in around 2:30 pm and helped me out with direction since the process differed from what I am used to at a different facility. To make the process of a smog check quick and easy, you will want to do the following: Present your dmv paperwork with the barcode across the top, not your registration. BRING CASH if you are using a coupon, as a discount will be applied only with cash payment. I am unsure if usual rate services also require cash. Initially park in the lot in an area where you can back out and turn around easily enough to pull your car into the garage going forward for the smog check. Turning around in the lot is difficult with no outlet and the spots available before you reach those in front of their garage are ideal. read more

1st time I went here today, keep in mind they close at 4, not 4:30. I usually call ahead before a smog check, and if there are more that 3 people ahead of me I don't go, because I'd be waiting forever. He said just come, so I figured OK. I got there at 3:28 and there were 4 cars in front of me. I was out the door by 3:55. These guys do an AWESOME job and they have the cheapest prices around, I paid $44 for an SUV INCLUDING DMV cert. They have this down to a science. While I was there people kept showing up, and he finally had to turn 1 guy away because it was past 4, they do their best to fit everyone in. Came here to get a long overdue smog check. I called around and smog express had the best price and friendliest phone call so I decided to go there. I was hesitant because most places will see a Ferrari and instantly triple their price (we call it the Ferrari tax). Upon arrival I was warmly greeted and felt like I was at a relatives house. A wonderful youthful couple who ended up being great in conversation. I think I spent more time talking about food and life than anything else. My car was done long ago but I just enjoyed their company it was hard to leave. I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed the service and company. The smog itself was surprisingly quick. They did a short overview of my vehicle and were expert enough not to give me a false negative. Paperwork was sent electronically and within three weeks I got my sticker and registration. When I needed to get a smog check - Yelp recommended this place. So I went on their website and they had a coupon for $25.95. Not bad. I went after work and was told that there's a line and that they would be closing soon so it would be best if I came back tomorrow morning. I was hesitant at first because, stupid me, 1) waited until last minute to get it done 2) I have work in the AM and 3) I have to drop my daughter off before work. Next day, I came right when they opened. I was the 1st one in and was told it would take about 15 mins. We sat in the waiting area and the owners wife handed my daughter some books to read, and then confirmed all the information on the paperwork is correct before submitting. She states to keep the copy because the DMV is slow and May lose it so it's best to contact them if I haven't received my tags. Not even 10 mins and we were told it was done. It's a true Ma& Pa shop.. they test older cars require the dyno too.. It's not uncommon that a Lambo is getting a smog check when you pull up for service. It takes about 15-20 mins from start/ finish. About $50 ( with $20 discount with coupon). And while you wait, there's a full service gas station next door where you can chill where is much quieter or on their furniture in the garage. The best part is.. it's a Star testing facility. Call on your way over , park and he will come out to instruct you when it's your turn to pull in the bay door. Be back in 2 years read more

With my DMV car's registration due in a couple weeks I finally got around to getting my car its first smog check. I called in the early morning and they were looking good for availability so they told me to head in. After arrival they began working within a couple of minutes. They have a waiting area with tables, magazines and books. Of course all doors are open with high ceilings so I felt fine about being "masked up" and waiting here. It appears to be a husband and wife owned business and I found them to be very polite, friendly, helpful, efficient and honest. I was in and out in 15-20 minutes and they informed me that my records were sent to DMV. They even provided me with an additional recommendation of going to AAA (if a member) for a quicker turnaround on registering my vehicle. And they brought up a recall notice on my car. I knew of the recall, but had put it off until after I returned from vacation (and then "kind of, sort of" forgot). They advised me that they were able to pass me regardless, but I should get that taken care of since it was a clear safety issue. And they were right. I bought a car in a new design release year (I have done this twice with two auto makers) and it is inevitable that you are subjected to a ton of recalls. Thus, you can get a little lazy about running off to the dealership once again. But they were right, so I booked the dealership recall as soon as I got home.
