Took my car into Smog King based on reviews and all went well. Made an appointment for the mid week, so things went pretty quick. I previously went to a shop in Pleasanton which is cheaper and because of it, there's a line a mile long regardless of the day you go. My time is more precious during the mid week, so I came here. Head's up on this shop. Yes the service was good - fast and friendly, however this place is $30 more for the same smog + certificate as the place right next door and across the street. When asked to give a competitive rate reduction after finding this out, the business did nothing to ensure I was satisfied. I'm ok if a service is slightly higher but $78 vs. $48??!! Getting a smog check isn't my favorite way to spend time. I stopped by without an appointment and they provided an accurate estimate of how much time it would take. They do schedule appointments which is probably the best way to save time. The technician sent over the smog certificate immediately to the DMV. I was able to pay my car registration on my phone within 30 minutes of completing the smog check. I highly recommend the Smog King. read more

I brought my 1980 320i BMW in for a star smog test and was sweating the process out. But, I was treated so kindly and ultimately passed the test with absolutely no problems. A very friendly man named Scott helped me at the desk and smogged my car. Smog costs about $90 which is the going rate for walnut creek and danville. It took all of 15 minutes while I sat quietly in the waiting room with my dog. I got the $20 off for checking in too! (Think it's for first-timers but I didn't ask). Great experience! In and out in about 15 minutes. Even gave me $20 discount because I found them on YELP. I don't think they do repairs--which is a good thing. A smog place that doesn't do repairs is less likely to fail your car for unethical reasons so they can charge you for the repairs. Martin and Smog King - "True" professionals. $20 discount made their services very competitive on price, but exceed every other smog shop I have seen on responsiveness, knowledge base and speed in and out. I don't take my vehicles anywhere else anymore - not since I started visiting smog king in 2007. Before that I paid way more for some not so admirable types to do it, who didn't really seem to know a lot more than I did, about my vehicle. One of my vehicles is a built 4Wheeler, legal, but very modified for back country use on 37" tires. Martin knows what's right and doesn't skip a beat when he sees it. Best ever experience with a smog check. I was more than a little concerned about my trusty, babied, 1995 BMW 318i passing this time. My old test station seemd curt and unhelpful when I called. Smog King won my confidence after calling around and reading Yelp reviews, and, they made it as stress free as possible. It s clear they know what they are doing.
