I got a smog check in early November 2014. I was quoted a price over the phone, but arrived with coupons from several competitors and one from Smog King. Martin (I think) selected the best one and I got a very competitive price. When I phoned, I got an appointment for 4:00. Despite two people waiting, I got in immediately and was back in my car at 4:15(!), passed, with the bill paid. Called in the morning to get an appointment and had no problem. Got to the location at 10:15 am. The business was very clean and the person ( I think his name was Tony) running the shop was very friendly. He took my information and quoted me his price which include the $20 discount which is listed on website. Tony took my key and got my car and began testing. Within 5 minutes he returned and told me he was having problems with connecting to the internet which he needed to run the test. Tony asked if I could come back later when he was able to connect to the State's website. I told him to give me a call once the system was up. An hour later, he called and told me the system was available. I went back and Tony took me right away. It only took him 10 minutes and he was done. Tony told me my car passed the smog test and I gave him my credit card to pay for the service. He informed me that he would discount my bill another $20 because of the inconvenience. What a nice surprise! I was very happy with the service and Tony who was friendly and professional. I will be back again for my next smog test. FYI, this business is STAR certified. read more

so my dmv registration came in this last year, and of course i had to get my car smogged at a test only center. frustrated, i ended up getting recommended to smog king. i called in, made an appointment and was in and out in no time flat. i did sit there slightly nervously while he tested my car, but all was good in the hood! to top it all off... about a week or so later i got a thank you card in the mail. i know that sounds really cheesy, but i actually appreciated it. they were fairly priced, quick and very friendly! read more

They are friendly and focued on making the customer satisfied. The person was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, spending time on the phone with me to advise about preparation for my older car to pass the test. He accepted a coupon from another smog service and finished the job quickly while I waited in the pleasant air conditioned office, able to watch through a large viewing window as he worked on my car. Great Service. Had recently "failed" a smog from a different place because they "didn't like" my after market air filter even though it had a carb id. I came right into Smog King and the Technician (I think his name was Stan) inspected everything, ran the tests, and once it was all done let me know a few thing that might need to be looked at in the future. At 2:55 PM, Friday afternoon, I called Smog King San Ramon to find out if I could still make an appoinment for that afternoon. The man that answered the phone was very pleasant and asked when I would like to come in. I asked if anything that afternoon was still available and he said "As a matter of fact I'm doing a smog right now but when I am through you can have the next period." I said good and I would be there for the 3:30PM period. I arrived a few minutes early and was greeted with a warm hello. We exchanged the information he put in his computer, and I received an estimate of charges. Next he moved another car into the building, took my my car keys and drove my Dakota inside for the test.. I selected a magazine but before I could finish the article, my Dakota was done. Since I turned in a "coupon" when I arrived, the discount was already listed on the final invoice. I paid my charges and left. All in all, it took just shy of 25 minutes for everything and I left feeling good about the friendly, professional experience. I needed a smog check and for the last many times I've had to get one, I went to a place in Walnut Creek which I was always happy with and also got a great deal. I live in San Ramon now, so decided to use a coupon I received in the Valupak mailer. I scheduled an appointment at a place down the street, but didn't really get a good vibe from the tone nor the information the guy who answered the phone gave me. So I decided to look at its reviews on Yelp. It only got 21/2 stars and not very positive comments. I then had the great fortunr of coming across Smog King, which had 5 stars and the reviewers all seemed to make me think it was the place to go. So I called and a very nice guy, Scott, picked up the phone. His tone and what he said made me feel that he wanted my business, so I scheduled an appt for an hour later. I arrived and Scott gave a friendly greeting, accepted the competitor's coupon ($16.95 + $8.25 for cert)and told me it would take 15 minutes...10 minutes later he was done, I paid, we had a friendly discussion and I went on my way.
